Once again I've been so entertained by a wonderful book. It's so great to read and not have to worry about the content or the language and yet have a story line that gets you so involved you feel you know each character!
Can't wait till the new series (which will include some from this group of characters) comes out ;)

I purchased one book, read it quick and went online and ordered all the remaining books I was so taken with the storyline. The writing is fast moving and catchy and keeps you wanting more. It was a much needed boost to my reading and spiritual apathy I was struggling with at the time. If you haven't treated yourself to a Yada book, do it NOW. You will be glad you did. I entitled this review "Treat Yourself" because meeting the ladies of the Yada Yada Prayer Group will bless you immensely. Mrs. Jackson's character development is absolutely amazing to me. You will love these ladies and you will see yourself, your friends and your church members in these characters. Every book in this series is a treat to read. I had to stop myself from reading them too fast, because I did not look forward to getting to the end of this series. Trust me, treat yourself. You will not be disappointed.

This is a great series about 12 women who serendipitously end up in a prayer group together. Through the series I have fallen in love with each and every woman in the group. I have laughed with them and cried with them, and they have taught me a little more about prayer and perseverance. A great book!

Book 4 in a series of 7 books is a great demonstration of how God uses our talents to help us in our desire to help others. Great for small groups, home groups, women's groups or personal study. It's a pleasure to read.

The subject matter of the book is really great, but in my humble opinion, the delivery of it is pretty boring. I purchased the book to pre-read before sending off to my 23-year old daughter (recent college grad) and I know it won't capture her attention...it didn't capture mine.

I found "The 21 Laws" to be all that it's hacked up to be, and I think I've read most of the Leadership tomes. Now I have luckily found the new book called "Going Beyond Leadership of Character" by West Point author Norman Thomas Remick which took me to the next step in leadership, trying to become not just a good leader, but a great leader. You might say, like the book, "Good to Great", shows you what makes some companies go from being good to being great, the book, "Going Beyond...", shows you how leaders can go from being good to being great. After reading the Maxwell book, and then going further by reading the Remick book and putting it into action, I think I'm on my way. That's why I recommend "The 21 Laws" and "Going Beyond Leadership of Character" to everyone.

I enjoyed reading this book. It gave me valuable insight to the mindsets and principles required to being an outstanding leader. I agree. Leaders are sometimes born, but more often than not, you too can be a better leader if you develop and follow these sound principles.

I have been attending some leadership training sessions at church where the author's video has been used. He's been so captivating on video that I decided to buy the book so I wouldn't miss or forget anything. My doctorate is in educational administration and policy analysis and this book has certainly enriched what I already know. John Maxwell's life in the ministry has added greatly to his book.

I am a Corporate Trainer and Product Developer. This book is an essential new manager read. What a great congratulatory gift for someone receiving a promotion to their first management position. Great for an office book club.

When the Worlds Series of Poker started, the best poker player was chosen by a vote! Tidbits such as this make this an essential guide to the history of the burgeoning event. A lack of hand records makes some of the reconstruction of questionable reliability, however.

There is very little analysis of the hands, although the match-turning decisions are recounted well enough. There are insightful bios into some of the players, including Stu Ungar, who had won three tournaments during the time the increasing size made this an incredible feat. Recommended for those with an historical interest in the event and the growth of the popularity of poker.

I have always been interested in seeing a behind the scenes look at a professional "wiseguy" sports betting group. Michael Konik, a top gambling writer, excuse me, a top writer...period, has done a tremendous job of showing exactly how a big-time, big-money betting team operates. Konik shows how they bet into the Vegas casino sportsbooks and later with the large offshore bookmakers. How did he write this excellent book? He was recruited and became a member of a wiseguy group and later formed his own group. I pretty much knew how these outfits operated but did not know who did their actual handicapping, and how. Now I do know. Great job, Mike.

Anyone who has an interest in not just the World Series but poker in general will enjoy this book. All In provides a thorough and detailed history of the World Series of Poker and the fascinating characters involved.

This is a nice, though incomplete history of the World Series of Poker. What's ther is well written and engaging. It is an interesting read but is far from comprehensive.

I didn't really expect much coverage of the secondary tournaments, but I did expect a more complete coverage of the main event. With a lttle more this would be well deserving of 5 Stars. As it sits, it is more like 3.5-4.

Nope. There are no discussions of how to play poker here. But whether or not you play poker you will enjoy this book. As the title says, it's (almost) the entirely true story of how the WSOP got started, the bumps along the way, and of course, the characters involved. It takes you from the humble beginnings to the behemuth that it is today.

And such stories...like the 1972 WSOP had 13 entrants, but only 8 of them played because they would rather play in the lucrative sides games than the WSOP. 1972 is also the year that Benny Binion made it a $10,000 buy-in...but paid half of it for the players who entered.

You'll watch the rise of the Binion family only to see it implode along the lines of a "Dallas" script. You'll read where a tournament director was fired because he refused to move old grumpy Johnny Moss who didn't want to sit by the railbirds during the tournament. Stories of great poker players like Jack Strauss, Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim and others fill this book. Read how Jessie Alto, who made the final table 6 times, went on a full tilt after he was bluffed out of a pot.

It's a fast read and I definitely recommned it to anyone who has a passing interest in poker.

An excellent book! It is so rare to find a book on a controversy in history and not have it be biased towards the conclusion the author wants you to believe. The people behind this book spend as much time trying to debunk their own evidence as they do the evidence of others! What a breath of fresh air.
The authors belong to an organizarion (TIGHAR) which research topics related to antique aircraft (and their pilots.) Their biggest project for years has been the Earhart project. Members from around the globe have spent years examining archives and conducting archaeological surveys trying to find out what really happened. This book presents their evidence and was more engaging to me than any fictional mystery book.

Those persistent TIGHARs are back with more suggestive but inconclusive research about what happened to Amelia Earhart, who disappeared in 1937 -- somewhere.
Every so often, somebody shows up in Hawaii with a kooky theory about Earhart, ranging from shot by the Japanese as a spy to still alive and keeping house in New Jersey.
The International Group for Historical Aircraft Recovery is far from kooky.
For one thing, they appear to have managed the trick of being zealous without becoming zealots. As lead author Thomas King puts it, "Most people have more pressing things to do" than hunt for a lost airplane that, given the odds, would more likely than not be under three miles of water.
The TIGHARs work, for free, in their spare time, on the assumption that, despite the geographical odds, Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan didn't just run out of gas and sink under the ocean. They think Earhart missed her target but may have crash landed on an intermittently inhabited (but in 1937 empty) island named Nikumaroro, where Earhart and Noonan might have either survived for a while or been eaten by crabs.
It's "a mystery that can't be put down," King says.
But hard to pin down.
Since the publication of "Amelia Earhart's Shoes" in 2001, the TIGHARs have run down more physical evidence, including things that look a lot like panels from a Lockheed Electra, but nothing definitive yet. The revised, 2005 edition is preferred over the first edition.
The story of the hunt also reveals a great deal of fascinating information about the South Pacific, which is big, mostly empty and weird.

Who says historical research and science have to be boring? In Amelia Earhart's Shoes, Dr. Tom King and others take us on a winding (sometimes loopy, even!) journey that tries to answer the question: What happened to famed aviatrix Amelia Earhart and renowned navigator Fred Noonan in 1937 after they vanished during her around-the-world flight attempt?

Amelia Earhart's Shoes does not pretend to solve the mystery - it does show that by applying the scientific method to a popular event, you can strip away all the myths and fables and assumptions and come up with relatively simple explanations that can be tested to see if they are true or false. That the scientific method may upset a few of those legendary apple carts along the way is proof that it works - something is either true or not true, provable or not provable. In Earhart's case, the truth may turn out to be much more mundane than some of the more colorful "solutions" to her disappearance would have us believe.

There is a lot of information in Shoes, but it is presented in an easy to read, almost chatty style (think ghost stories around the campfire while making s'mores) that keeps you turning the pages to see what the heck is going to happen next. The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) has now been to the South Pacific eight times to try and prove or disprove their hypothesis that Earhart and Noonan missed their destination, tiny Howland Island, and landed on another deserted island, only to die (or perhaps be completely missed) before the frantic searchers could get to them.

Amelia Earhart's Shoes is a great read that should be on the bookshelf of everyone interested in what really did happen out there in the vastness of the Pacific Ocean almost 70 years ago.

I saw one of the people involved in this project speak at EAA's big national air show in Oshkosh, WI last summer. It was the most popular lecture session I attended while I was there. Interested, I picked up this book expecting a thorough but dry, academic read.

Was I ever wrong! This book is not only fascinating, it's funny! It's written with some dry humor that made me want to keep reading more. And the authors lay out a strong argument, to boot. It does make one wonder...

This is an academic work by a contingent of skilled scientific experts whose writings & basic investigative work was coordinated, in part & on behalf of TIGHAR (Int. Group of Historical Aircraft Recovery) & updated 2004. The 27 chapters describe a forensic approach to solve the mystery of aviatrix AE's disappearance enroute 2,223 miles to Howland Isle from Lae, New Guinea, July 2, 1937.

The book's format & length makes for difficult reading: -- it is based on best available scientific evidences & hypotheses of multiple disciplines of archeology, geophysics, aeronautics, anthropology, and review of both private & governmental archival information in addition to tabulating their search findings on tiny remote South Pacific Phoenix Isle "Gardner", but renamed Nikumaroro, or "Niku". Author was a principle TIGHAR investigator taking part in expeditions to Niku, & he writes with authority, -- having "been there, done that!"

Inclusion of more than 100 photos, illustrations, maps, etc., makes the reading more easily understood & tolerable: -- for it is not a book one picks up and being enchanted 'reads from cover to cover' without pause. For readers who want an up-to-date analysis of AE's disappearance this book is best read after the reader is thoroughly familiar with AE's character, avocations, skills, life experiences's and accolades by the press, politicians & the powerful, -- for Amelia was a complex person living in exciting, changing times on the cutting edge of new technologies.

Many of the chapters begin with stanzas of word parodies to be sung to certain melodies, attributable to TIGHAR but not author King. The parodies I found to be highly irregular, unsettling & not in best taste, so downgraded book from 5* to 4*.

I was given this book ages ago and it sat on my shelf unread for over an year. I was put off by the book jacket and the description of a girl in an iron lung. I even gave it to my sister who was eager for something to read and she finished it quickly and said it was good. having similar tastes, I finally picked it up and read it. I loved this book!! It is sweet, engaging and funny. It is not depressing at all and you are captivated within the first 20 pages. I read a lot of books. all types of books interest me and this one was one of the best I have read in a long time. I have been burned a couple of time by these customer reviews so now I am a little suspicious of them but I really highly recommend this book. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. You won't be disappointed!

Having spent the first 19 years of my life growing up in Baltimore of the 60's and 70's, I was able to relate to the setting so it helped add to my enjoyment of this book.

The story of a young child who finds motivation and maturity from an older person who enters his/her life is not exactly an original idea yet Deford makes it just a bit fresher by using a growing city,changing times, and a good assortment of true-to-life characters as the backdrop.

The only nitpick I have is that there are a couple of minor subplots involving a rape and an affair that seemed to be there only as a device to hammer across the point that when you're a 14 year old boy, you learn people can do bad things. For me, those portions added very little. When the story stays focused on the relationship between the two leads(the aforementioned 14 year old boy and a 23 year old girl struggling with polio), the book is gripping and moves forward rapidly. Actually, it seems as though this book could be translated to the small screen pretty easily. I hope we see this as a Lifetime or Hallmark channel presentation soon.

You might be able to see the ending a mile a way but if you need some breezy reading for a vacation or a day trip to "the shore"(a term that will be clearer when you read the book), "An American Summer" may be a nice way to pass the time.

Last summer I came across this book by accident and I decided to read it and now I am so glad I did. An American Summer is the best book I've ever read and the entire time I was reading it I could picture what was happening in my head and I felt like I was there. i would definately recommend this book to anyone who wants a great book to read.

I have to admit I was reluctant to read this book club pick when I saw the cover. It looked like a trashy summer novel without much substance. How wrong I was!

Frank Deford brings the summer of 1954 to life with his novel about the unlikely friendship between a 14 year old boy, Christy Bannister, and 23 year old Kathryn Slade. When Christy rescues Kathryn's dog from near disaster, he is befriended by Aurelia Slade, her mother, who consequently introduces them, and through her connections helps him salvage his paper route. Although Kathryn is confined to an iron lung because of polio, she's one of the liveliest characters I've seen. She proceeds to teach Christy all sorts of things that summer: about girls, about swimming, about competing, and about having a vision and determination. While he secretly shapes his muscles with a Charles Atlas program, Kathryn demonstrates such personal courage that she helps him realize his own strength. Their friendship is bound through family secrets, challenges, laughter and perseverance.

This is a poignant tale, often humorous and touching without being maudlin.
All the senses are involved with Frank Deford's nostalgic story: The sounds of Kathryn and Christy singing "Sh-boom, sh-boom," smells of a pool and blooming nearby garden, tastes of RC cola sipped through a straw, and touches of an empathetic hand to a lifeless one. Although a quick read, it will be one you'll think about for a long time.

While browsing in a local TJMaxx this past summer I came across a copy of this book on the bargain aisle. The cover drew me in - different from on the one pictured on this site - the text on the flaps took hold of me, and the bargain price of $1.00 clinched the sale! I must say, it was the best dollar I've ever spent. Fourteen year old Christy Bannister moves from Indiana to Baltimore, MD with his family and learns a lot about life through his unique friendship with Kathyryn Slade, a twenty-three year old young woman with polio. Deford weaves a great story with true to life characters, ones that could be your own neighbors, as he touches on the issues of suburban growth in middle class America in the 1950's, the fear parents had of devastating childhood diseases, truth and trust among both family and friends, and how love can touch you at any time, any age, any place.

This is a book that gets to the point. It's the "how to" book we're looking for. I started reading it Friday evening - and finished it on Sunday. Worth every penny. Thanks Henry.

I have read many books in search of explanations... I would say that this is the most illustrative of all. Chapters and contents are very well structured in order to introduce you to the psychic being you really are.

I encourage those of you, who have been compiling information and have some scattered concepts about psychic development and awareness, to read this book. From my point of view this book have provide me a solid base for growing on psychic development.

The author, Mr. Henry Reed, mentions in the book that he has used some psychic techniques in order to improve the final result of the book when writting it. And after reading it, I really believe he did it so, because as said, this book is great.

This is a very solid read, expounding on the spiritual philosophies of the "sleeping prophet", Edgar Gayce, who may well have been one of the most gifted psychics of his era. The author, Dr. Henry Reed does a nice job of interlapping science and metaphysical properties to help guide us into fairly easy to understand excersizes to expand our psychic awareness and abilities, based on Cayce's teachings. I really enjoyed the descriptions and hypothesis of the soul and collective consciousness, and the section on hypnosis as an induction to opening ESP and intuitive awareness was quite fascinating. Would definitely recommend this one to all pursuing their psychic gifts.

A little bit old hat now. A real primer if you are interested in opening your spirituality. The stories of Edgar Cayce are interesting.

I bought this book a week ago at a local bookstore.
I read it in two days. It is a real delight! In 236 pages, Reed covers the most of ESP, giving credit to hypnosis as a natural channel to connect with our unconscious.
The book is an eye opener (third eye?) on the infinite possibilities that every human being has to connect with his inner mind. It is right there, hidden inside and so easy to reach. With some dicipline and your own audio tape, the teachings of this book can really have an increadible impact on your life.
Buy it, read it and apply it (get a pendulum too!) this is my best recommendation

This is a wonderfully written book. I think it is a must have for women everywhere. I never thought to read labels on make up or shampoo and now I do it without even thinking about it. I highly recommend this book; it is an easy read and full of powerful insight and information.

This is a very informative book showing you how to create your own skin care treatment from organic products. They have worked well on my skin and saved me money! The devotional section is wonderful in helping me view myself the way God does!

I read this book within 3 hours and came out renewed!

My thought process on beauty reorganized & re prioritized thanks to her simple, Godly devotionals. And although I do make an effort to live healthy there are occasions when I'm tempted and give in to our commercialized garbage at the store...whether it be food,body care,clothes,etc.

I went shopping the day after I read the book and bought her beauty recommendations...all of them! ...food and all :) I should also add that while you read my review note that I'm bi-racial (bl/wh) and battle dry skin everywhere and have frizzy,bushy,slightly wavy hair. :)

It's only been a couple of days but I already feel better. I feel better just knowing that I have the absolute best yet surprisingly cheapest beauty routine that money can buy, my energy is up thanks to the organic nuts and raw honey and fruit, and my hair smells FABULOUS!! I ended up buying Aubrey Organics hair products and my scalp feels wonderfully fresh (no dandruff) and my hair is silky.

Beyond a Doubt is a must read if you enjoy a great suspense. Colleen Coble is one of the best suspense writers I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

I just finished "Beyond a Doubt", the second in Colleen Coble's Rock Harbor Series. I have been looking for a Christian novelist to replace the secular novelists I have been reading. I travel every week and choose to read instead of turning on the TV in the hotel. Someone recommended Colleen and I am thrilled with her work. I inhaled "Without a Trace", read "Beyond a Doubt" in less than 3 nights, and have already started on "Into the Deep". I already have the Aloha Series books, ready to read next. If you're looking for an exciting, "clean", romantic, mystery that will keep you turning pages as fast as you can, Colleen Coble's novels are it. So, I recommend all her work, not just this one. If you like series writing, like I do, start with "Without a Trace" before reading "Beyond a Doubt". Then you'll be ready for "Into the Deep". Happy Reading!

Colleen Coble knows how to spin a mystery. I enjoyed this and her first book "Without a Trace". This is a great series, so far. Can't wait to read more. These are "don't want to put them down" books, so try to find a day to get the book in without interuption, if you can.

Colleen Coble's Beyond A Doubt has crisp storylines that are distinctive yet cleverly woven together. I didn't skim "ahead" because if I did, I missed something important.

If you love well written stories, with believable, heart impacting characters, read Beyond A Doubt. Read Collleen Coble.

I really like this book, I just finished reading it a few hours ago. I really like the relationship brewing between Kade and Bree (Or will it be Nick and Bree? We'll have to see!) I also enjoyed the angsty twist Colleen added to the ending of this book. I'm a sucker for agnsty love! I can't say this enough -- I highly recommend this book! Buy it!

Just as I feel about their first book, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this one too! Let's hope these true stories inspire others so be so kind. Enjoy.

Ginny's unique talents in locating sick and injured cats had rendered her numerous appearances in CNN, Animal Planet and major news. Her rescue stories were illustrated by two national best selling books: The Dog who Rescues Cats and the Blessing of the Animals. Ginny passed away on August 25th, 2005.



With the passing of Ginny, her unfinished mission of cat rescuing is continued by her caretaker Philip Gonzalez everyday. A non profit organization, The Ginny Fund, has been established to raise fund for cat rescuing in Long Beach New York.

Today's New York Daily News reported on the passing of Ginny, a/k/a the Mother Theresa of Cats, gone at the age of 17. She succumbed to old age yesterday afternoon on a blanket in Philip Gonzalez's care. As for Ginny's story, this is one of my favorite books. The stories are truly heartwarming and this book was a "gotta have it" purchase. Browsing the pet section in a local bookstore, I found this and it jogged my memory: Ginny's story was familiar to me due to a Reader's Digest article, but what happened next? This book captures all the tails...er, TALES, lol. I will definitely re-read this now. How could a dog love cats she doesn't live with? As a cat person, I've always been intrigued by this. How ironic that such incredible humanity could have come from one of god's furry creatures. Rest in peace, Ginny. Let us hope there are more of you in the world.

A continuation of a very sweet story. I have a few stray cats around my home and even though my inside cats aren't as willing to share as Ginny (LOL), I make sure to feed them and give them shelter. I highly recommend this book and also the one that came before it! (Not sure of the exact title).

I read this book in one afternoon and handed it off to my husband, who could not put it down. I relate to the author in one respect: after having animals all my life, I connected with one cat so profoundly that I have devoted my life and work to alleviating animal suffering and overcoming the devastating problem of pet overpopulation. It's bittersweet. I love animals with a depth that is so satisfying, and enjoy human and animal company more than I ever was able. But I am now so attuned to animal suffering (generally due to human neglect or abuse -- I'm not trying to fight the forces of nature) that it is difficult to focus on anything else. Just read this book. It feels so good!

Eye-opening read that explains very clearly why and how the political "system" either co-opts or sidelines the Congressmen you hoped and expected could be the honest ones who would effect "change..." This gives the reader a very good understanding of the problem we face today.

Dr. Coburn is one of only a few congressmen who "gets it". Future generations of Americans will look back with anger at how the baby boomers ate their seed corn and saddled them with trillions of dollars of debt. Hopefully, they may appreciate the efforts of Dr. Coburn, who was one of the few who argued against all of the fiscal insanity going on in Washington today.

This book, based on the reviews here, is self-righteous pablum with little factual substance. A better, book, one that I've actually read, is Chris Edwards - Downsizing the Federal Government (Cato).

This is one of the most rewarding and enlightening books I ever read. It was a real sleeper as far as publicity goes, but everyone should read this book. Liberals who just scrunge up their faces when they hear Senator Coburns name, should think again and read this book. Senator Coburn is a very conservative republican, but he does not rail against liberals or democrats in this book. He must have rightly figured to do so would tag the book as a typical partisan effort. Instead he exposes what the Republican party establishment does and goes after Republican leaders. He only mentions Democrats when he has to in relaying information about any particular congressional bill. He surely didn't win any friends in congress when he exposed the inner workings of that body. Politicians quickly (if they didn't sart out that way) transform into playing the power game. Everything becomes about power and not what is best for the people. The bribes, strong arm tactics, threats, play along to get along, we'll do the right thing later, gotta secure power now kind of shenanigans. You definately do not have to agree with Tom Coburn politically to appreciate this book. It's great to get a birds eye view on why our government does not work. I can see what congress is doing and not doing now and understand why thanks to having read this book. The establishment doesn't want you to read this book, but do yourself a favor and read Breach of Trust. We need to shake things up in Washington and elect new people. In fact Mr. Coburn talks about the 20-25 in congress who stick to their principles and truley work to do the right thing. It's good to know who they are. Let's get a majority like them. To get a feel as to how to do that it helps to read this book. This is eye opening stuff. Thank you, Senator Coburn.
