I never even knew this one existed. Great reading. I felt as if the author just pulled me right into the scandal. Was Archie the rightful heir or not? Quite informative for that time in the social climb.

I'm going to list one of the tags for this book under humor, because this book is hilarious! The lessons are simple and to-the-point, yet the topics are comprehensive. It is great for beginners and intermediate pilots. I was glad I got this book because it is such an informative reference book for learning to fly a helicopter, but also because of its humor.

A Wild Ride!

Review Date: 2008-03-19
Canadian journalist Yves Lavigne documents the Hell's Angels ride from its origins as a motorcycle club for World War II fighter pilots, to its freewheeling terror tactics in the early nineteen sixties, to its flirtation with the hippie scene, and finally to its ultimate rise in the contemporary world of organized crime.

Having first read Hunter S. Thompson's "Hells Angels: A Strange and Terrible Saga," a treatise he wrote before entering into the realm of "gonzo journalism," I thought I had an idea and baseline regarding the truth and legends of notorious club. I was proven wrong after finishing Lavigne's work. What makes this book an exceptional read is that Lavigne discusses the Hell's Angels main rivals; those being the Pagan, Outlaw, and Bandido Motorcycle Clubs and the wars fought between them.

Lavigne's writing style is vivid and raw. So many intimate details are provided I wonder how Lavigne obtained access to them. Regardless, the text stands as a stark testament to his prowess as a journalist.

A must read for criminologists and criminal justice professionals and highly recommended for anyone interested in this genre. Five stars. I couldn't put it down.

Great book to learn hematology

Hematology is a complex subject, often with very variable and confounding clinical presentations. Trying to learn this subject by the conventional approach of reading pages upon pages of dense, dry text describing pathophysiology, symptoms and signs is often overwhelming and unrewarding. The approach of this text, using case presentations, followed by analysis and didactic commentary, to teach the subject makes it memorable, interesting, and gives the reader a 'real world' sense of grasp and mastery. The book is comprehensive, and despite being an anthology with multiple authorship, the chapters progress well and are clearly written. Definitely the book for this subject.

In researching the English Reformation and King Henry; I found this book to be the most concise and to-the-point writings ever written. Not only does he discuss the political and personal choices that Henry made; which brought about the Reformation, but he explains how different historians view and think about this time in history. If you know nothing about the Reformation and want an easy-to-read; yet accurate representation...you need this book! It is the one that will lead you to other writings on the Reformation as well.

Brilliant Beginning

This is an excellent book on so many levels. It sheds a bright light on Henry VIII's Court, and shows it to be a complex and often dangerous place. The book reveals Henry Howard, the Earl of Surrey, to be an intelligent, talented, brave, egotistic, and ultimately doomed man. The research is also solid. Jessie Childs looks under every possible rock for any scrap of evidence, and so is able to present a vivid, full-scale biography of the Earl. But what really sets this book apart from most others is the writing, which crackles and sparks like burning logs in a fireplace.
Jessie Childs is a fresh voice, and thus brings a new perspective to the Court of Henry VIII. What a marvelous first book this is! One can't help but look forward to many more such works from this young, talented historian.

You can judge a historical atlas on two criteria: 1) Is it easy to read? 2) Is it more informative than plain text?

Yes, and Yes. A truly dazzling work. Clear, concise maps with a minimum of unneded clutter make for a great curl-up-with (albeit clunky) book.

If you are interested in this period of British history, snag this book.
