I read this book 36 years ago, and last night I read it again.(That's why people have bookshelves.) I was stunned by both the quality of writing and the details, but most of all by the author's prescience. Little that is happening in today's world is not foretold, or at least fore-indicated in this devastating portrait of David Rockefeller and of the Rockefeller family.
The book contains clear explanations of the uses to which large corporations put their foundations (to become larger, richer and more powerful corporations!) the power they wield in their own self-interest, their avoidance of taxes, their destruction of developing countries.
The underlying thesis is based on the often stated claim of the Rockefellers that their money came from God (a peculiar notion for the beneficiaries of a robber baron!) But, think about it, think about how such a belief would affect one's psyche and one's attitude towrds his fellow man.
A lot of us are trying to figure out what the heck has gone wrong with the world and - especially - our nice country. This book offers some important clues. I think Naderites, and those currently swept up in the political theories of Aaaron Russo would find it extremely interesting and informative.

Although I was drawn to this book because of my shared name, I found a deep interest in the way the story of Jesus' life was presented in a way that modern readers of all ages could appreciate. The book combines telling the story as a csse of the state worrying about a single individual having a unique and powerful voice with the use of documents to move the action. I found this compact book to be inspirational and insightful.

Collection of short stories with a snake theme by rural Kentucky author Jesse Stuart. This was a favorite book of mine years ago thats now out of print but I got lucky and found a copy for fairly cheap. Book still held the same magic for me after all these years when I read it again recently.

AN ENTERTAINING AND WELL-WRITTEN BOOK
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.

I have read Fort Lauderdale and Broward County, An Illustrated History by Mr. McIver and thought that was a great book. But his newest one is even better! It is a fascinating story not only about the struggle between Walter Smith and Guy Bradley, but also about the plume trade and its major players, the Audubon Society's foundations, important people in South Florida's history who had their hands in the plume trade, and just interesting stories about "the way things were" in the late 1800s early 1900s.

He interviewed several significant historical people and their descendents, mostly in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when he originally attempted to write this book. 25 years later, he has created a masterpiece. He has obtained an amazing amount of research information, and the reader will be very happy he spent time to read it.

Useful Synthesis of the "variously explained" English Civil

R.C. Richardson has done all students of the English Civil War a great favor. As hotly debated as the U.S. Civil War, this book surveys the historiography (i.e. the history of the history of the "variously explained" - English Civil War, English Revolution, Puritan Revolution, Great Rebellion) of this transformative 17th century event from the 17th to the 20th century. Richardson frames his analysis in the context that "at no point since 1640 has consensus characterized historical writing on this subject." (p. 240) Highly recommended for any student of British history.

Essential Office Text

I have NEVER had a more useful text in my office!! Gives a clear approach to common and often complex problems faced in outpatient and inpatient medicine. Includes topics such as thyroid nodule, hyponatremia (and other electrolyte abnormalities), elevated transaminases, fatigue, chronic diarrhea, constipation, solitary pulmonary nodule, mediastinal adenopathy, and really anything else you can think of!! I have never not been able to find what I needed quickly and easily. A must have for an busy office when you need to know what to do without all the peripheral talk!! I wish they had continue this series in Peds and OB/Gyn (there are old ones in these fields)as they were just as valuable!! An investment you won't regret. Great for residents!!

Everything young students need to know about Delaware colony
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

If you were always wondering why Delaware was the first state to ratify the Constitution, Stuart A. Kallen provides the explanation in the introduction to this volume from The Thirteen Colonies series. Larger only than Rhode Island, all of the colonists who lived in Delaware's thee counties were close to the capital city, whether it was New Castle or (after 1777) Dover. Consequently, making decisions was relatively easy for the colonists of Delaware, who were under Dutch, Swedish, English, and American governments in colonial times and had to fend off the claims of New York, Maryland, and especially Pennsylvania at various times. In this volume, Kallen tells you everything you might ever need to know about the colony of Delaware, which because of its central location was essentially at the crossroads of American history and culture.

These volumes in The Thirteen Colonies series follow a rather standard pattern in terms of their five chapters: (1) First Contact talks about the Lenape tribe, the first known inhabitants of Delaware, and the arrival of Henry Hudson and the Dutch traders; (2) European Settlement refers to the establishment of New Sweden, which was then taken over by first the Dutch and then the English; (3) Daily Life in Colonial Delaware covers a wide variety of topics: religion and government, farming and milling, immigration, indentured servants, and slavery; (4) Delaware During the Revolution actually goes back to the French and Indian War to set up the taxation without representation issue, and the chapter is devotes as much time to the American Revolution in general as it does to specifically what happened in Delaware during the war; and (5) After Independence also talks both generally about the move towards the Constitution and Delaware's role in the process, as well as the industries developed by the new state.

Once again I am rather surprised at how much about a lesser known colony is worked into these informative little volumes. "Delaware" has black & white illustrations of the times and people who helped shape its history and makes excellent use of primary and secondary source quotations. The back of the book contains a chronology of the colony from 1609 when Henry Hudson sailed into Delaware Bay to 1792 when representatives met in Dover to write a new state constitution, along with notes, a couple of lists of reference books, and an index. The Thirteen Colonies series is very informative and will serve young students being asked to research a particular colony a perfect place to begin their investigation. Certainly they will learn more details about Delaware than they will ever uncover in a standard American history textbook.

This book is just darling. I love the vintage, even antiquated, pictures. The stories are refreshing for young ones. It's the kind that makes you want to sit out on the porch swing with your children, drinking lemonade and reading to your kids; or else you can light the fire in the woodstove and eat popcorn under fuzzy blankets with your kids while you read to them. Delightful.

This book can be found at other websites. I can't leave an URL here, but just Google the title. I found mine at a Catholic homeschool store. I'm not Catholic and neither is the book, but you can find it there.

This is the first romance novel I ever read! It's been over ten years and I still love it. Luc's "cat and mouse" games with Charlotte are mind boggling and Charlotte's naivete is delightful. This is Ann Stuart at her best!

Exquisitely Told Tale About a Reluctant Hero

Review Date: 2008-07-15
Lew Fonesca has a lot on his plate these days, and he doesn't want any of it. Still grieving from the death of his wife four years earlier, he's learned to survive by pretty much leaving the world alone, and wishing the world would do the same to him. Still, he has to earn money for food and the two rooms he rents behind the Dairy Queen.

Lou's a process server who's good at finding people. In fact, he's developing a bit of a reputation, so it's no surprise when an actress asks him to find the driver who ran down and killed her fourteen-year-old son. The same week, a senior in a retirement home asks him to find out who was murdered down the hall from her. There isn't a body and all residents are accounted for, so no one believes her. But Dorothy knows what she saw, and she wants Lew to prove it.

Stuart M. Kaminsky's DENIAL is a sad, elegantly told story about learning to live with loss. It's also about the quest for closure and, for a lucky few, maybe even redemption. Despite Lew's depressed, lethargic nature, I liked this character a lot. He tries to do the right thing, doesn't have a temper or violent streak, and doesn't wish harm on the world, except perhaps the driver who killed his wife. But since he doesn't know who this person is, he thinks about it as little as possible.

This interesting story offers well-drawn characters, perfect pacing, and a great blend of dialogue and narrative description. What I loved most about this book, though, is Kaminsky's simple, exquisite style. Absolutely terrific.
