Perhaps the most definitive work on Stuart England I've ever read, Stroud has many fresh new insights about this important period in English history. A must read.

An excellent introduction to the political, religious and social history of 17th century England

In just over 200 pages, Angus Stroud provides a wealth of information about Stuart England. This book aims to provide a student with knowledge of the issues and personalities of the times and an understanding of the different perspectives that historians bring to their analyses.

Originally, I picked this book up to assess how well it might provide a general overview of Stuart times for someone unfamiliar with the history. I quickly found myself refreshing my knowledge of Charles I's personal rule (1629 to 1640) and reacquainting myself with details of the political conflict between 1640 and 1642. I read through the account of the Civil Wars (1642 to 1646), the search for a settlement and the Republic (1649 to 1660). The facts are presented with sufficient detail for those readers who are seeking an overview but also include source material and references for either informal study or part of more structured coursework.

The 17th century in England was a time of significant internal turmoil and conflict. While much of this conflict was a consequence of religion, structural issues caused by the financial structure inherited from Elizabeth I were significant contributing factors. Mr Stroud has written a text that is comprehensive without being confusing and which invites the reader to consider a variety of contributing causal events.

Highly recommended.

If "Stuart England" should prove to be the pinnacle...

Review Date: 2001-02-01
The 17th. Century is a sea regularly trawled by authors-cum-historians, but in Angus Stroud, we have a talented historian, who clearly has an in-depth and encyclopaedic knowledge of the period.

"Stuart England" places Stroud amongst some of the great of 17th. Century historians. He writes without the muddle and confusion of Macaulay, the melodrama or gimmickry of Kishlanski, or the sometimes-unnecessary detail of Dame Veronica Wedgwood.

Stroud has demonstratively dedicated much time and attention to the investigation and evaluation of primary evidence, as well as to different interpretations of the period. In light of this, his clarity of thought, and the originality of his selection of rarely considered documents, must be seen as nothing but a virtue.

He [Stroud] takes us from 1600, through the Civil Wars and Glorious Revolution; to 1701. Usefully, he contexualizes "Stuart England", by outlining the key events of the end of the Elizabethan age, and includes a chapter on the Thirty Years War/European Context. His incisive wit and concise writing style make this section far more valuable than the comparable chapter in Kishlanski's "A Monarchy Transformed".

At times it seems that he is reluctant to enter into a detailed discourse on the individual battles of the Civil War; preferring instead, to comment on the reasons for victory/defeat, rather than military strategy. The pictures that he has selected are exemplary of the points that they illustrate, and the maps showing the changing situation are cleverly conceived.

Intended primarily as a classroom textbook, aimed at the 6th. Form; Stroud has included questions in the chapters. However, more experienced historians and lay readers need not be deterred by their inclusion, as they are as probing as they are challenging.

If "Stuart England" should prove to be the pinnacle of Stroud's writing career, he has achieved a glory, which would be proudly borne by any king or Godly man.

Stuart's Run to Faith - turned my grandson on to reading

Stuart's Run to Faith is the catapult that sent my grandson over the top as far as reading. After reading this book, he devoured the entire Arby Jenkins series. In the book being reviewed, Stuart is consumed with cross-country and using it to get the notoriety he wants until he reads something given to him by Mr. Watson. Stuart goes through a lot of trials, but ultimately the book given to him by Mr. Watson makes all the difference. My grandson is a middle school student and this book (really this entire Arby Jenkins series)connects with children of this age group. I highly recommend this book and the entire Arby Jenkins series for boys of middle school age.

Hambrick has once again captured both the grief and humor of adolescence. Junior High is riddled with angst, and the daily triumphs and tragedies of the characters are at once painfully real and extremely funny. Stuart's humanity is very believable, making his search for the divine all the more believable. The teaching is Scriptural without being pedantic or "preachy." Read it. Laugh AND cry. And check out the Arby books, too.

This is an excellent book. Hunnicutt has written several volumes on US Army tanks, history, production vehicles and prototypes. This large volume covers not only the Stuart Tank, but all of the vehicles from WWI prior to the Stuart as well as variations and subsequent models. If you purchase this book, you need not buy another on the subject of US light tanks.

There are many excellent photographs of the vehicles, as well as line drawings, cut aways, technical data, specifications- you name it, it's here. I have read this book several times over and enjoy it enormously- there is something to be learned every time you pick it up.

Post WWII light tanks are covered in a seperate volume.

THE reference source on the American light tank!

Hunnicutt's work is an absolute must for light tank enthusiasts. Covering earlier development of the American light tank beginning in the 1920's, it ascends through the 1940's. Tanks covered include all variants of the M2, M3, M5, M8 series light tanks and even LVT (Landing Vehicle, Tracked) vehicles. Coverage is also provided, albeit surprisingly, on the M18! Illustrated with black and white and color photos, line drawings and color plates; it includes action as well as technical views. Many photos are drawn from the U.S. Army Ordnance archives and Army technical manuals. This provides not only views of production vehicles, but prototypes and interior shots not normally seen. Technical specifications are also provided for the majority of vehicles illustrated. Overall this book is well worth every dollar spent. A definite "must have" for the armor enthusiast, modeler, or historian!

This is the most detailed, most clear, most organized
facial anatomy book. It covers from skin tension lines,
facial muscles, facial nerves, to skin agin and many more.
Each topic has its own extensive photos and highest quality
illustrations, together with a list of the very helpful
citation, references at the end of each chapter.
I have read this book at least 5 times, and I still
constantly use it as a reference for my computer facial
modeling and animation research work.

Anyway,.. I hope that this book will print at least
100,000 more copies. It's simply a piece of art..!!

i'm new to tarot reading but i couldn't put this one down. it was interesting and detailed but not big and overwhelming. it's so small you could take it anywhere. i wasn't intimidated by it and it made me want to learn more. the descriptions are in-depth and not fluffy but there are also key words to help you get it. it talks about meaning of the cards being upright and reversed(which i understand some people don't bother with). you won't be sorry to have this one in your collection.

There are so many books on Tarot, but by far this is the best! Rowenna Stuart is honest and straightforward with her divinatory meanings, and though we all find our own ultimate answers in the cards, she provides an invaluable light to all seekers ~ it's simply good, basic, and very often perfect.

This book is an essential premarital guide to have both of the engaged couple think about their future and their expectations of each other. This will allow each to express concerns and address them before they are married. This will allow them to have more realistic expectations of each other in the marriage.

The Ten Q's

Review Date: 2008-06-19
I have read Ten Q's several times. I have recommended this book. I have also purchased this book for others, because of the rich wisdom written on the pages.

The title is indicative of its contents without belaboring the point. Dr. Stuart, the author, outlines 10 questions one should ask themselves before they say "I Do". Questions like 'Who Am I?', 'Who Is This Person', and more. As I understood, if we don't know who we are and the person we are about to marry doesn't know who they are, saying "I Do" is only going to cause more chaos and disruption. The author goes to the heart of what is really going on inside of us.

I also believe this book is very helpful to [stage one] marriages who are experiencing difficulty, because the questions asked and explained in the book, provides answers to why the marriage is in trouble....that is, not taking the time to be healed before moving into another relationship. Although many people need deliverance and healing before moving into another relationship, but where does the healing need to begin is the question being asked and answered in this poignant, no nonsense, easy-to-read book filled with revelation after revelation.

I highly recommend this book. It will change your life if you're brave enough to commit to the process!

I got some great new insights, and along with that there is allot of good common sense stuff, but It's great to see commonsense affirmed and also reading and focusing on positive messages while we are bombarded with nativity all around us that lower our energy.. It's refreshing to get a good dose of this stuff...

THE starter set for Stuart Wilde

Review Date: 2008-03-30
This is the perfect "starter set" for Stuie's works. It consists of three of his prior "thin" books (Miracles, Life Was Never Meant To Be a Struggle, Silent Power). Very good/inexpensive set to get a feel for Stuart and his style. Highly recommended. From here you might consider reading "Weight Loss for the Mind", then "Infinite Self". But wherever your path leads, the key is to follow it.
