I loved the book because there were more scenes in the book that weren't in the movie or that were just deleted out of the movie. I like Elektra because I like how she is just so cold and never wants to get close with someone because she doesn't want to hurt them our herself. I also like her because of the weapons that she uses (their pretty cool). Anyways I gave this book 5 stars because like I said before there are more scenes in the book than in the movie and like I also said before "My Opinion".

This book gives a deep insight into the protocols and systems required in the 16th century to maintain the monarchy in a position of strength while still governing a somewhat turbulent nation.Good research brings life to places, people and events. The wider political problems of Elizabeths reign rightly take second place to the general day to day requirements of a the Tudor nobility to sustain the rigours of court functions by laying heavy demands upon local landowners and their like.A book for those with both a deep and those with a more peripheral interest in Elizabethan history

Ely Jacques Kahn was a 20th century architect of commercial buildings: you'll most readily recognize his works and signature style in the city of New York - or in Jewel Stern & John A. Stuart's Ely Jacques Kahn, Architect, which provides a study of his work - the first to see print. Kahn's buildings are keys to understanding New York's skyline: his body of work is featured here in a pairing of black and white images with in-depth architectural and biographical notes, making this a definitive guide.

Following on Ms Stern's iconic book on American silver, she has another hit. This book ends the lack of info on one of the most important and least famous of the mid-20th NY architects. It is well written and crammed full of photos. I find it to be a great addition to my library. Once again, Amazon had great availability and the best price.

In depicting the deep meaning of a man¡¯s struggle with society and himself, Professor Kaufman leads us to a world in which a person and an engine share the same characteristics. In us, putting parts of an engine together seems to be feasible, yet to pick our mental piece up and squeeze them back to their previous shape sounds more difficult. A successfully portrayed protagonist, Vinnie Buscemi drives an image into our mind to show what a logical assassin looks like. Among friendship, women and satisfaction of career, he feels tired and fails to arrange them well. When starting to make a fantastic implication of how we judge ourselves and how we treat others, Kaufman has answered many unreachable questions and meanwhile leaves many still beyond our understanding.

If there were an award given for journalistic endurance during the 20th century, and if it were given fairly, George Seldes would be the runaway winner. "Even the Gods Can't Change History" is one of a long line of books Seldes wrote on the stories he covered between 1909 and the late 1930s. It adds his commentary on more recent developments, including the Watergate scandal and media coverage of it, and journalism's sacred cows of the late 20th century. Seldes, writing while in his eighties (he died in 1995 at age 104), describes the hidden stories of the end of World War I and the U.S. role in deciding the outcome, the origins of the Cold War as French Marshal Ferdinand Foch began a campaign of public statements on containing Bolshevism, and accounts on post-war Russia, Italy, Ireland, the Arab world and Spain. The ongoing theme of George Seldes's writings is that of the failure of U.S. media to tell the story truthfully. For the facts to speak for themselves, they need to reach the people. Seldes's probe into truth in journalism is as vital today as it was when published in 1976. Though this book is out of print (sadly, my local public library had withdrawn it as well), with a bit of perseverence the interested reader can get much of Seldes's take on the same events in some of his other books. If you can't find "Even the Gods Can't Change History," try "Witness to a Century," another Seldes volume that covers the historic events in his impeccable reporting career.

If I could mandate required reading for all American children ALL George Seldes books would be on the list; this one in particular. I would like to send a copy of this book to all Home Schooled children and tell their parents that unless the child read and studied these books they would not be passed to the next grade, or graduate. George Seldes is the only truly Honest writer of the 20th century. As an American I can state honestly, he is the only American Author that makes me proud to be an American.

A recently met the author in a tiny pub in a skinny alley in the bowels of Paris (that would be B** C**ls, Stu). He was very keen/proud of his next compilation Backwards Days, so I am looking forward to it. He was slightly hammered but I could tell from the dazzleing sparkle in his eyes - this man is a poet - I'll bet the house on that! I just bought E&A and its great.

Best General Chess Book I've Ever Come Across

Tired of dry-as-dirt chess books that lack humor and fail to show the glory of the game? Can't find a chess book that's actually FUN to read (without being dumbed down) and that is entertaining enough to attract both kids and adults alike to the game?

Well then, you just found your book. Run, don't walk, to order it. And the illustrations are excellent, and very funny, in a way that appeals to both adults and kids. Can't recommend this book highly enough.

I bought this book new [in 1974] and it has warmed a special place on my bookshelf ever since. This is one of the funniest, clearest written, best annotated books on chess there is. It sounds like it was written for children, and if you have a child....or ever WERE a child, you will see it's charm. However, adults will love this book too. It is both informative and very funny. The illustrations alone are enough reason to own this book, but the every day explanations, such as the one for Discovered Check which involves a little old lady selling flowers in a park.....with a revolver!!!....are enough to slay you.

I loved this book! I enjoyed the author's personal perspective throughout all the many experiences one has throughout a pregnancy. But most of all, I found comfort in realizing that Mary, our Mother in Faith, experienced all of these things as well. We can learn from her example and know that she is praying for us during this most blessed time!

Bookbag...
A writer and photographer who splits his life between his native California and his adopted homeland of French Polynesia, Winston Conrad has put together a sampler of Pacific paradises. The title - Fabled Isles of the South Seas (dist. by ACCESS Publishers, $49.95) - says it all, or nearly, and Conrad's selection is hard to quarrel with, including as it does Tahiti and its Society Island neighbors, Pitcairn, the Cooks, the Tuamotus, the Marquesas, and Easter Island. Conrad clearly knows the territory, and each of his essays conveys a personal take amplified by extended quotes from eminent literary visitors (Jack London to James Michener). The illustrations include both Conrad's own color photographs and a nice melange of drawings, historical charts, and old prints. It's the grand Pacific tour with an informed guide.

This handsome coffee-table book, which covers roughly the sweep from Tahiti to Easter Island, is the work of the photographer son of the writer/painter Barnaby Conrad. The brief text skillfully introduces the islands, incorporating quotations from famous earlier visitors such as Melville, Gauguin, and Robert Louis Stevenson. The photographs are well chosen and provocatively juxtaposed with historical images, including old postcards, portions of maps, and even postage stamps. Unlike many books of this genre, there is an emphasis on portraying the local people in their everyday activities, as well as views of stunning sunsets. Primarily a gift book for those planning a tour and a souvenir to remember it by, this book may be priced beyond the budgets of many libraries.- Harold M. Otness

Review Date: 2008-08-04
I love romances where the plot takes you along with the hero and heroine on an adventure through unchartered territory. The whole premise of being alone in the middle of a beautiful setting... with a bit of danger on your heels appeals to me in some pretty strong ways..this is "one of those"!

Maggie Brown is in search of her flaky twin sister and hires Ben Frazer to help find her. They are in the midst of a country in the midst of an election that depending on the outcome may launch the country into civil war. Do not be fooled by the length of this book. Anne Stuart is amazing and can do lots with very little, if you know what I mean!

The banter between these two people is priceless. A kind of "foreplay" before they even kiss. I loved the attraction and chemistry between them and the story has just about everything in it. Mystery, Romance, Adventure, and just a bit of Suspense.

Some other titles to try to get your hands on...if you read this one and like it are
1. Escape from Cabriz by Linda Lael Miller
2. Midnight Rainbow by Linda Howard
3. Amazon Lily by Theresa Weir...all of these are along the same lines...and very good!

Maggie Brown left her job at the bank and flew to the small country of San Pablo, that is sandwiched between France and Spain, to find her sister Stella. Their mother is dying and she wants to know that Stella is okay before she goes. Maggie has not heard from her sister in over a year and she suspects that the man named Ramon, who she is living with is a terrorist. However, as she will find out, one man's terrorist, is another man's freedom fighter.

Maggie inquires in a bar in the capitol about her sister and this Ramon and the bartender points her to an American named Ben Frazer, sort of an Indiana Jones kind of character who knows all about San Pablo. Frazer tells her he'll lead her to her sister, but he has just the opposite intention in mind. He plans to keep her as far away from Stella and Ramon as possible, at least until after the upcoming elections. It seems that the ruthless head of the country will do anything to keep himself in power and Ramon is part of the opposition.

Frazer's job is to lead Maggie on a wild goose chase, but unknown to him and Maggie alike, there is a cunning assassin on their trail. It doesn't take Maggie long to figure out she's being duped, but why? Is Frazer on the side of the angels or is he a devil in disguise? Will she find her sister? And what about these feelings she's developing for Frazer? A lot of questions that you'll have fun finding the answers to as you page through Anne Stuart's eHarlequin novel that is full of romance, intrigue and adventure. I loved this book and I think you will too.
