I give this book 4 stars because in chapter four, the review questions are for the wrong chapter...But this book really gets into the wireless side of Security. I have not taken this test but cannot wait. I have my CWNA cert and had to read the book about 4 time due to the fact that I don't work in the wireless field.

I enjoy reading these books by planent3 wireless I wish they authored other topics. Unlike the CWNA book, this book fouces alot on secuirty..well the cert is called Certified Wireless "SECURITY" Pro. I have read this book only twice and still feel that I should read it 2 more time before exam day.

The only thing is that many times this book "tells" you how to implement a solution; it doesn't show you how. Don't get me wrong this book is a great learning tool. I enjoy this books so well that I'm going to get my CWAP, after earning my CWSP.

Good luck , all and have fun with this stuff !

I was on the look out for a comprehensive book for wireless security, something which was vendor neutral and would cover a lot of wireless protocols and authentication solutions.
This book is packed with a wide range of wireless networking security protocols and solutions including 801.x, 802.11i, DES, 3DES, AES, WEP, WPA, TKIP, PPTP & IPSec VPNs, wireless VLANs, EAP, EAP-TLS, LEAP and EAP-TTLS.

So I got just the book I was looking for.

The Devinator does it again with a superbly written book. However, did anyone notice the review questions for Chapter4??
The chapter talked about DOS and the questions were about Encryption? Is this a typo or was that intentional?

I have read three other wireless security books and they all basically [stunk]. Some of them had three or four good chapters, but they also had a lot of "fluff" material and just did not cover the material in a logical manner. This is by far is best wireless security book published to date. Even more important than being a study guide, the book will become your permanent reference book when deploying solutions in the real world.

The book covers a wide range of wireless networking security solutions including 801.x, 802.11i, DES, 3DES, AES, WEP, WPA, TKIP, PPTP & IPSec VPNs, wireless VLANs, EAP, EAP-TLS, LEAP and EAP-TTLS. It covers numerous Layer 2, Layer 3 and even Layer 7 solutions.

The guide also has a great section on wireless security auditing tools. In addition there are several chapters that discuss the implementation of security policies and why corporations need wireless security policies in their company handbook.

Although this book is the best wireless security reference book available, I would still highly recommend that you take the CWSP class which is about 80% lab with about 35 hours hands-on with the equipment. The guy who writes the tests for Planet3Wireless is the Marquis de Sade of test creators. He is sadistic, but bottom line is that I was forced to learn and understand the material and concepts. Hands-on experience combined with intense self study from this study guide will enable you to pass the CWSP test.

But regardless of whether you plan on getting certified or not, this book will be your Wireless Security Bible.

I spent many, many hours going over the CWSP Official Study Guide. I feel like Devin Akin did an awesome job of authoring it. This book was developed to help people attain the Certified Wireless Security Professional certification but I use it whenever I need a definitive answer on questions related to wireless security.

A ton of research was put into making sure all types of wireless security products were covered and I think you'll benefit not only from the challenge of the CWSP exam but also from the knowledge you'll gain while studying for it. I can certainly vouch that undertaking this complex subject has definitely helped my career in the IT industry. Getting the CWNA and CWSP certifications could do the same for yours.

This is a well written description of the various aspects of the self. As psychotherapists they are able to use working examples to follow a process for discovering the complexities and hidden characteristics that make up the "whole" self. Well worth the read and very helpful if you're looking for practical help.

Decent Ideas... poorly presented... not comprehensive

Review Date: 2008-03-22
The idea of "parts work" is very 'frontier' these days so I was interested to see the Stone's take on it. (Having worked with "Internal Family Systems Work" [Schwartz] and Focusing [Gendlin/Cornell] as well as the earlier versions by Bradshaw et al.)
First, the writing is stilted and clinical. Unnecessarily technical.
As to content... let's just say that the concept isn't given full treatment, here. The introduction suggests that sections of this title were 'spun off' from the second edition to become their own books. (The fact that the Stones have half-a-dozen titles on this subject say something about their commercial interest in the subject.)
Another problem I have with the material is what I refer to as the 'Dianetics Dilemma'... you NEED a partner to do this process. Go to the website for Voice Dialogue and you will see links to PROFESSIONAL facilitators but no mention of other ways of finding a facilitator.
Finally, my biggest argument with this treatment w/ Parts Work is that it doesn't go far enough. Voice Dialogue uses a Gestalt-like process of taking on the voice of a subpersonality and otherwise embodying it in physical/emotional/mental space to get to know it. From this perspective, the facilitator interviews your subpersonality, helping you to gain insight into this part. Afterwards, you come back to 'ego awareness' and discuss the session to get more insight.
That's all well and good but I think that Focusing does a much better job with the process. Voice Dialogue limits the work to parts that are verbal, fully-formed personalities. Focusing is inclusive enough to allow non-verbal, fuzzy personalities to express themselves and be heard. Voice Dialogue also limits itself by setting up categories for the subpersonalities, a priori. There are primary selves, 'Pushers', disowned selves, etc that are already in place, waiting for us to label and manage. Focusing allows the personalities to describe themselves to us, to develop uniquely, with our respect and appreciation.
[Schwartz's Inner Family Systems Therapy, likewise, categorizes the parts and does some of the session with the client vocalizing for the part. Schwartz's work ALSO trains the client to develop a stronger, more beneficent Ego to be able to moderate the subpersonalities.]
In summary, the ideas of Voice Dialogue, to the degree that it lines up with the work of Schwartz, Gendlin/Cornell, Bradshaw, and others... confirms the importance of this work. Does it advance the ideas or present new concepts that improve the practice? I don't think so. I give it a three only because the Stones were one of the pioneers of parts work so I have to tip my hat to them. But I would read other authors and incorporate the Stones writings into what the field, as a whole, is saying.

I am learning German, so I thought buying a book that I have already read both in English and Spanish would be a nice experiment. I was very pleased with the translation and the fact that overly complicated words had apparently been avoided, keeping the book highly readable.
I do not think there is need to review the Harry Potter literature itself, I can just say I love this book in any language.

A great book if you're learning German (like me) and want to try your hand at some pleasure reading. Most books in second hand shops that are printed in German (at least, the ones near me) only have books by authors that I've never heard of, or who are a dime-a-dozen. Maybe I'm biased because I've loved the Potter series from its beginning, but I would definitely recommend this book.

As usual, Margaret Wise Brown is as tuned in to animals as she is with children. A beautiful, descriptive story.

His poetry speaks with power and intelligence. The pictures he emphatically conveys as well as the course of events that have led up to all he has experienced is not for anyone to judge. Raegan makes no excuses with what has transpired throughout his life. Rather, it's a slight glimpse into the mind of a brilliant person who gained maturity and learned from his choices. After reading both of his books Rusty String Quartet and Stone Hotel, I came away feeling as if I know the author all from his colorful and articulate words that seem to softly whisper in my ear.

A Story in the form of Poetry

Last week I had the good luck to hear the poet read one of his poems. I was so impressed that I tracked him down afterward and bought this book. This poetry speaks directly, powerfully, and with intelligence. I particularly like its mostly chronological arrangement. Each poem stands on its own, but is embedded within the continuing story of an eight year sentence. This makes every poem carry additional weight while the compilation as a whole becomes a meta-poem of his experience; how he got there; and how it changed him. His talent is such that, at points, I almost felt as if I'd also had his experiences.

Review Date: 2004-07-03
I encounter a lot of trite writing posing as poetry. Often I read or hear poems that are so bad I squirm in embarrassment on behalf of the author. Having been subjected to many poorly contrived pieces, I was surprised and exhilerated when I began reading Stone Hotel: Poems From Prison by Raegan Butcher. I was sucked in, immediately hooked by the dramatic pictures painted by Butcher--often in few words, but always in vivid detail.

Butcher uses his words to tell the stories of his life, starting with the armed robbery he was convicted for in 1996. He takes his audience through his arrest, the suicide watch he's placed on, the mental ward he's confined to, his conviction, and his transfer to prison. The last line of "Prisonbound" reads, "i had 2,555 days to go." In addition to details of those 2,555 days, the book's next 86 pages are filled with Butcher's hopes, dreams, fears, and desires.

I particularly appreciate Butcher's straight-up honesty. He manages to write about his love for his young daughter and of romance lost without seeming sappy or fake. No matter what he writes about, he doesn't sugarcoat or pretend.

My favorite pieces are his brief and pointed descriptions of inmates he encounters. These poems are as short as eleven words, but they speak volumes. Butcher makes each word count.

This book illuminates a skill and talent that goes beyond sharing the details of life in prison, although (according to my friends behind bars) Butcher does that well. The greatest beauty here is that Butcher puts words together in ways that shock and delight. Consider the final words of the final poem in Stone Hotel: "i've walked thru hell/ wearing gasoline shoes." That's a whole world of meaning in only ten syllables.

I received "Stone Hotel" as a gift, but didn't pick it up right away because I'm not a big poetry fan. Once I did pick it up though, it was nearly impossible to put down.

Raegan Butcher writes about the hard prison life. The poems are easy to read and grasp despite the hardcore subject matter of wage slavery, getting caught by the police, strip searches, prison power games, suicide, etc. The poems are very matter of fact and executed incredibly well (even for a poetry novice such as myself).

I recommended "Stone Hotel" to those who are fans of poetry and to people wanting a safe inside glimpse of prison life.

Must-read poetry

From his prose to his poetry, Raegan Butcher can write. Among the most touching aspects of this book--written during his six-year stint in prison--is his lack of self-pity and prisoner rhetoric (overt misguided emotion, revenge themes, repentance, etc.). The poetry is simple in its raw honesty and beautiful in its mature-yet-accesible language and intensely personal insights. This book is a must-read.

The Wretched Stone is a Modern Fantasy tale featuring a crew of sailors that loose their ability to read and play instruments after staring for hours at a wretched stone (which is symbolic of a television). They recover nicely after taking up their old interests.

I can relate to the evils of the television as it often takes away my own time for hobbies. I thought it was great that the readers recovered more quickly than the other sailors.

For a classroom extension, I would provide "mystery rocks" for students to write their own fantasy tale, explaining the secret, unknown powers of their rock over people. In addition, this book is a powerful way to discuss limiting television viewing at home.

Imagine being in a great storm on a ship with your crewmates being apes. This is what ends up happening to a captain in The Wretched Stone, written by Chris Van Allsburg. The story starts out with a smart crew that is on a boat and who are setting sail. When the crew hits land, they find a mystical stone. While watching the stone, the crew is fasinated with the stone a little too much. After watching the stone for some time, the crew turns into apes, and not at the oppertune time, because a storm is headed their way, forcing the smart captain into a tough situation.

This is a very good fiction bood, especially with Chris Ban Allsbrug's excellent descriptions which almost match the pictures in the story. This is also a very imaginative book, especailly considering that it is a kid's book, which is always imaginative. I also thought this was just a good book. Of all of the Allsburg books I've read, this is the best. So, all imagitive kids should read this terrific book, written by Chris Van Allsburg.

Have you heard about the book The Wretched Stone? The author, Chris Van Allsburg, made a beautiful book. This book I will never forget. I am glad I read this book. I hope you will enjoy this book like I did.

I thought that the colors were pale in the pictures. But, the theme is good. The theme is to not watch too much TV. The art work is like real people. I can tell that the author's words are very stiff. The story takes place mostly at sea in the boat.

In The Wretched Stone it said, "Some play musical instruments and there are a few good strong storytellers among them." Also, a good quote they said is, "I am playing the violin and reading to the crew." I like the ending a lot. Also it is very funny that the crew turns into monkeys. The author's style is to make the kids see it in there minds.

The crew and the captain are going through bad times. These entire things have a solution. The captain is the person who solves them. I enjoyed this book.

I feel that the book is meant for higher grade levels. Mostly for forth and fifth graders. The pictures are not cartoons, they are real people. This book is very extraordinary. This book is a 4 star book. I hope this book review will make you read it too.

This is one of my favorite Chris Van Allsburg books. Chris Van Allsburg, author to gems like The Polar Express, The Stranger, Just a Dream, and The Wreck of the Zephyr, tells another captivating story with a message. This one serves as a great reminder and launching point for discussion, for children and adults alike, about the dangers of too much television.

It's estimated that the average child watches about 4 hours of TV per day. That calculates out to 28 hours per week or 120 hours per month. Imagine what any one of us could accomplish in that amount of time! The sad truth is that for so many of us parents, the TV becomes a cheap and easy babysitter for our kids.

The Wretched Stone is a great story with wonderful illustrations and a very important message.

Even my eight-year-old grandchild got the message of this wonderful allegory. The Wretched Stone is an important story with a message-- a great reminder lesson for children and adults alike, about the dangers of watching too much television. It's so easy to slide into the passive oblivion in front of the tube. We need to tear ourselves and our children away from the "glowing orb."
The sailors on the ship became captive to a glowing stone that said nothing. Anything like that around your house?

The rich topic of LaFerle's family life, from delivering newspapers on dark Sunday mornings with her son to remodeling her historic home and baking bread for peace, is comfort food without the calories. The essays pair especially well with a warm cup of tea on a cold afternoon. LaFerle's calm and compassionate humor will remind readers to be grateful for the many blessings of home.

From the preface: "At a writers' retreat I attended several years ago, author Madeleine L'Engle posed a question, "Why do all of us want to share our stories?" Her answer affirmed what each of us knew but couldn't express as elegantly: "We share our stories because we have faith--faith the universe has meaning and that our little lives are not irrelevant." I found this profound and wanted to read deeper.

Cindy has put together some wonderfully arranged thematic essays. The essays are funny, poignant and show a slice of life. The essays are fun reading them in book sequence or skipping around (Sorry Cindy. You probably wanted them read in the sequence published.). I enjoyed reading them.

Cindy's writing style in this book is like a conversation between friends. There is a sense of humor mixed with plain down to earth speech and common everyday situations that anyone can relate to. Most essays are short, easy and fun to read.

The Christian Science Monitor, Reader's Digest, Country Gardens, Writer's Digest, The Oakland Press and The Royal Oak Daily Tribune have all published Cindy's essays and columns. Cindy lives in her home town, Royal Oak, Michigan, with her family.

I found this book easy and fun to read. I don't know when these essays were first published, but they just a relevant. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone wanting something entertaining to read. Since there a re a series of essays, there is no real need to rush, reading from cover to cover. You can pick up this book at anytime and read one or more of the essays when you have a few minutes to spare while relaxing. I would rate this book as a great read and worthy of consideration by readers.

Cracking open Cindy LaFerle's debut collection of columns and essays is the equivalent of chatting with your best friend at a coffeehouse. She talks about everything under the sun -- from the love of her deceased tabby cat to the ubiquitous mean mommy syndrome we all face at the PTA. Her steady, flowing writing lulls you into the comforts of her world. It's not all rosy, however. Her discussion of the Iraqi War or Martha Stewart's decline are timely issues to be taken seriously. Nonetheless, you feel you are in trusted hands with Ms. LaFerle. She won't let you down. In every one of her 294 pages, she never does.

The book is a compilation of over a decade of newspaper columns in The Daily Tribune (Royal Oak, Michigan) and essays which have appeared in notable magazines such as Readers' Digest and Better Homes and Gardens. Since her background mirriors that of many work from home mothers, she is a highly relatable writer both in intention and in content. Her tone is never preachy. It is truthful and without pretense.

This nurturing scribe has stopped her column. Her local readers in Michigan must mourn the loss of their regular commentator. As she recently sent her only child off to college, she may have been concerned that her home life would not yield a full column's worth. She quotes Aldous Huxley at one point (page 64):

"Everyone who knows how to read has it in their power to magnify themselves, to multiply the ways in which they exist, to make their life full, significant, and interesting."

Cindy LaFerle does that with her writing. She magnifies her own world to make it our own. We can only hope she will be inspired to continue the quest with her pen. Her obvious talent to weave honest, yet striking tales is definitely something to write home about.

Cindy La Ferle's essays are grouped together by subject rather than eras: first she welcomes us into her House and Garden, & then introduces us to the muggy swamp of Child Care; to her Social Life (such as it is being a work-at-home-parent & spouse); to the philosophies of Kitchen Duty, & to her Creature Comforts.

Then she gets as serious as she can about Work Ethics before opening the Family Album. She also shows us how she's Keeping Up Appearance & Keeping the Seasons, & as with all things, she gets Older and Wiser & into Soul Caring.

Oh, & she's into organic produce, herbs, overnight retreats at a Jesuit monastery, walking with her women friends, & a life of prayer & peace. & she likes to laugh!

WRITING HOME is for everywoman who thinks about her world, & would make a perfect reading group selection, & gift, no matter the season!

It is hard to laugh when you look at what has happened to this country over the past eight years. But Mr. Stone manages to make you admit the sad truth of those years, laugh at the more ridiculous events in them and believe that better times are possible. It is a fun read--and a book we should review periodically to strengthen our commitment to the changes that need to be made.

Glad something like this came along to help the folks with Bush Derangement Syndrome. Now, for something really useful, how about a book on getting over Obama?

I got this book as a birthday present for a friend. Later at the party it was the biggest hit -- everyone was laughing so hard it hurt! It's a lot of fun. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Democrat or Republican, we all need some comic relief from the horror of the last 8 years. Mr. Stone delivers once again in a wonderful combination of biting sarcasm and dry wit. An enjoyable read for everyone.

I didn't think I had any laughter left in regards to our president, but Mr. Stone has filled his book with not only keen and accurate insights but also relentless humor. I received this book as a gift and after reading it quickly ordered the author's other Bush book, and his Cheney book as well. I'm hopeful for an Obama victory, though I admit that if McCain were to win, I'd at least look forward to Mr. Stone's future books on that comical ticket. I highly recommend this book!

This is an excellent reference for crystal collectors, particularly those who are interested in the metaphysical properties of minerals and gemstones.

What makes this book unique is that it incorporates several elements into one volume. Many books that I have encountered describe crystals with the assumption that you know what they look like or they have pictures and geological data but do not describe the use of crystals. This book does all of these things.

There are colored photos and, when possible, more than one version of a crystal is depicted so that you can see what the different forms look like. If you are new to the study of crystals, this is an invaluable resource because it helps you to identify crystals through pictures and through its mineral properties, so if you are a "rock hound" you can still get a lot of benefit from this book.

The only detriment to this book is that it doesn't include more crystals! It covers many of the popular gemstones like amethyst, quartz, hematite, and agate, so you will still get great use out of this book. I only wish it was twice as long so that more minerals could be represented.

I also am also glad that this book is readily available on the internet as it took me a long time to find this book in the bookstore. Though it is spectacular, I haven't seen it in many mainstream bookstores, so when you see it, get it, in case you don't see it again!

FINALLY!!!

I bought a lot of books about crystals and minerals and all of them seemed copy-cat to each other, and a bit out of touch or sometimes too far from where we stand in THIS WORLD. Many of them sound like as if they were "guru" or masters of some kind without case study or their own experience. It is very frustrating the way many authors use certain words such as "psychic" and spiritualism in every page! Michel Gienger's crystal power, healing book is so different from all other authors. His approach to crystal healing is logically explained, easy to understand chemical components of minerals and how and why it works, practical and down to earth, even spiritual part is more based on how the change of our minds can change our lives by the aid of crystals, and not that crystals change our lives automatically. And photos are so beautiful that because of his book and its photos I bought so many crystals and minerals. Thank you Michael!!! I recommend his book to everybody who is interested in crystal power!

This appeared along my path for research for a book of my own because it scratched the surface of some topics that no other book even begins to contemplate. This book is thoroughly well researched, full of experiential knowledge, and elevates crystal healing to a new level. It is concise and simple enough for anyone to explore, but it is a great resource especially for the newer breed of crystal co creators that are emerging.

I cannot strongly reccomend this book enough to everyone!

If you've ever wonder why crystals and rocks effect you the way they do or if you are confused by all of the books out there that don't tell you how they arrived at what sometimes seems like arbitrary attributes...buy this book. This is a must have for any crystal healing reference library. Not your usual fare. "Crystal Power, Crystal Healing" supplies the missing pieces for working with rocks and crystals effectively. It explores why crystals have the effect they do..from their mineral classification and crystal structure to the actual chemical make-up....and how that effects their spiritual and healing properties.

I'm a librarian and I started purchasing this series for my grandson about 3 years ago. Everytime I asked him, he hadn't read them yet. I was sure if he started them, he would like them. This fall he had to have a book to read in school that represented his interests so he took the first one, reluctantly (hates to read). He was about halfway through the book when he called me and said,"Grammy, would you mind getting me the rest of the Five Ancestors books? They're awesome!" He's now reading the second one and looking forward to the rest of the series. He's 11, turning 12 in May. I would reccomend this series any time for boys who think they don't like to read.

Book 2 of Jeff Stone's 'Five Ancestors' series, Monkey really deserves a reading of Book 1 for a smooth transition - and be aware, this is a projected seven-book series - but the action- packed martial-arts story set in 17th century China will win fans wherever they begin. Five young, orphaned monks specializes in a different style of kung-fu reflecting his personality: here Malao faces his temple's destruction and an encounter with a band of wood monkeys who save him and introduce him to a wilder side of his soul.

The Five Ancestors series by Jeff Stone is an exciting series about five young monks from an ancient Chinese temple called Canghzen, or, literally, Hidden Temple. The books are the same story, but from different views, because they split up. I think these books are a great adventure, and I also liked Tiger.
