Timothy stone blends the emotions of fear, sex, and the supernatural into prose of origional imagination. Creating worlds dark and sticky, Tim embodies the future of dark peotry. There is a fine line between what he creates with pen and what a painter puts to canvas. Remember the name Stone.

Truly an example of great Advante-Garde poetry.

This book surpasses all modern poetry that I've read to date. Mr. Stone truly has a talent for grabbing his readers attention. Even though poetry seems to be a dying art-form. Timothy stone's approach is new and inventive. I look forward to reading more from him, and would suggest others to do the same. Poetry is not dead within the world of Timothy Stone.

For the Film Director in Your Life

Judy Stone's book is a wonderful read even if you think you don't recognize all of the director's she interviews. She has a way of interacting with the people she interviews, of getting them to talk about what really matters to them, that is truly remarkable. I can't imagine a film buff or would-be director who wouldn't love this book.

Brilliant collection of vital interviews with great artists

``Eye on the World'' is a ``multipurpose'' work -- for anyone interested in the movies, it's a must-read, but also a splendid collection of interviews that provide insight into life, love and the whole damn thing -- far, far beyond the confines of just one branch of art.

Stone's elegantly simple style and her total focus on the interviewees combine for an outstanding volume that is hard to put down, easy to pick up again and again.

The first thing you have to tackle with this book is the title, since these stories are not fables and there is little "slang". Ade was not a fantasist. These are very short, realistic, and sometimes very funny stories. He called them fables because they all have a moral, but the moral is ironic, meant to underline the hypocracy and narrow vision of small town mid-west America in the turn of the Century (19th-20th Century). By slang he meant these are stories in the vernacular, written in a conversational tone. Ade was a Drieser in miniature, and one of our best humorists, and his fans included Edmund Wilson and fellow Hoosier Jean Shephard (another underappreciated humorist, remembered for the film The Christmas Story).

That's Slang?! I Never Knew.

This book is WEIRD. It's weird mostly because it's SOOOOO dated that it's hard to understand it.
It is composed of many fables (that you've never heard) written in slang... But it's slang from THEN, not now. A lot of the "slang" has become common language now, so it doesn't seem like slang at all. However, some of the slang is so unusual that it's hard to figure out what Mr. Ade is talking about.
I love this book. I bought it for about [price] in an antique shop many years ago and have loved it ever since. There is one fable called The Fool Killer (or something to that effect... I don't have it here in front of me) that really resonates with me. It pokes fun of people who make themselves miserable in order to endure a day of "fun".
If you're the type of person who likes to collect weird old books, this is the book for you.

Something old, something new

This book is about an old holiday presented in a new way. If you want a book that really reminds us what Hanukkah is about, then this is the one. The illustrations are really appealing and unexpected. Nobody should pass this book up if they celebrate Hanukkah or really want to know what the holiday is about. An extra special addition for adults and older kids is the history of the period.

Dont' miss it!

Unusual and beautiful Hanukkah book

This book is a Haggadah for Hanukkah --- a service to be used year in and year out, which stresses the idea of religious freedom and the historical context of the holiday. Decorated with original, hand silk-screened illustrations, it is a book to be saved and treasured.Included are the blessings, the story and 16 ways to spell Hanukkah. A special addition is a history of the period in which Hanukkah originated and a history of the artistic development of the menorrah. The book is a limited, numbered edition and fills a special niche in the genre and unlike many, is not a story book nor a how to book.

Wonderful Nature Stories - perfect for kindergarten and 1st grade

If you are a parent of children in the 4 - 8 year old range or if you are a kindergarten or 1st grade teacher, get this and ALL Tiptoes story books by Reg Down. They are truly magical, beautifully written, and have are perfect for gently bringing the rhythm of nature into the young child's consciousness. I told these stories all last year to a Waldorf 1st grade class and they LOVED them! This year I am teaching my own 1st grade and these stories will be part of the curriculum. The collection of stories are like chapters but each story can be read on its own and they are relatively short - so perfect for bedtime, too.
Thank you to Reg Down for his brilliant collection of stories!

These are lovely little stories with a few black and white drawings> I think that makes it good for a bedtime story because they can just lay and listen and not want to keep looking at the pictures.

There isn't one single aspect of field collecting and processing minerals that Mr. Sinkankas has neglected in this classic manual. It has inspired generations of enthusiasts, myself included. My favorite feature remains the clear illustrations, including cross-sections of his favorite vug pockets, proper placement of gads, prospecting with ultraviolet light, and the copious photographs of geomorphological indicators. For the absolute beginner and experienced hand alike, this is heady stuff. It's practically a mini-geology course in a book. Mr. Sinkankas' style couldn't be easier to read. If you ever run across his classic Mineralogy, snag it. It'll have you hooked for life.

How to Field Collect Minerals

This is the third edition; the first in 1961 was titled Gemstones and Minerals: How and Where to Find Them, the second in 1970 was titled Prospecting for Gemstones and Minerals, and this third edition is perhaps the most appropriately titled; all editions are very similar with minor changes, and all are excellent.

This clearly written how-to book is written for the layman, with very descriptive text accompanied by diagrams and pictures. Not a guide to localities, nor a descriptive mineralogy (see the author's excellent mineralogy text for that); this tells HOW to collect minerals. Chapters cover field trips, tools and how to use them, rock classes and how to recognize them, how mineral deposits form, field features of mineral deposits (pegmatites, sulfide veins, basalt and diabase sills, alpine vugs, etc.), collecting practices, preparation of specimens (cleaning, trimming, and preservation), storage and exhibit (labelling, cataloging, assembling and arrangement), with useful appendices, bibliography, and index.

I bought an edition years ago and soon found it very useful, particularly the section on Tools and How to Use Them. For field collecting, this book shows you how. -DMM

Having read the first 3 books to my children of 8 & 6 yrs, we now eagerly await the 4th & 5th. What a joy after the 'Harry Potters ' to find these books, which held as much excitement in the turn of every page, and yet were such a quick read...
Certainly something I feel sure, that the children will want to pick up and read over & over....

As a previous student of Professor Don Kunz, and simply a big fan of acclaimed films and filmmakers, I can say that this book is an accurate portrayal of the artistic ability of Oliver Stone.

Professor Kunz, from his teachings in my Absurdist Humor course, is extremely knowledgable of film and shows his understanding of the topics quite well. He shows skill in analyzing films beyond their face value, and does the same for the works of Oliver Stone.

If you look to learn about Oliver Stone beyond simple biographical information, this book is a good pickup.

Oliver Stone is my favorite filmmaker, the man's a genius! All his films are powerful works that leave you impacted and thinking. "JFK" is a masterpiece of modern cinema, a study of power. "Natural Born Killers" is also a great, great film that studies today's culture. Of all the filmmakers, Oliver Stone remains the best, the smartest, most creative and important filmmaker of our time.
