Wisdom Of Stones is really good. I am Australian and I loved it. I don't know why everyone is complaining about the first 30 pages . I thought they were great. I also recommend The Further Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn. Greg now resides in Australia again. Welcome home Greg. John Baranyai

Another Epic Masterpiece From Greg Matthews!!!

Once again Greg Matthews delivers the goods in this Epic Novel set in Pre World War 2 Australia. The reader is introduced to a former teacher, Clive Bagnall who arrives in Australia in order to claim a property as his inheritance. Upon arriving he meets Doug Farrands, a part time pearl sheller. Doug and Clive soon become good friends and the story follows the two of them as World War 2 begins and Clive goes to fight for his country , England. There are many twists and turns in this novel and one is awed by the majesty and dignity of this book with real characters that the reader comes to like very much. The book has a distinct Australian feel to it which comes a no surprise as the author is an Australian. This book encompasses the Great Australian Outback to the Prisoner Of War Camps in which Doug and Clive find themselves in. Do yourself a big favour and read this book and you will realize that Greg Matthews is truly a Master Storyteller.

It's 95% as good as "Heart" and "Power." 'Nuff said!

This is typical Greg Matthews, which means that it's superb. This story begins in pre-WWII Australia, but it's mostly a war story, with an especially vivid rendering of a prisoner-of-war camp. There are about 30 pages near the beginning that don't work (no conflict, no action, no nothing) but the rest of the novel is so great that it has to get five stars.

In preperation for my fall adult bible class I asked our minister to recomend some resources. Written In Stone, was one of them. I have been pouring over this book all summer and will be leading my class though this material over the next few months.

I thought I knew the 10 Commandments, but quickly learned that I didn't have a full appreciation until I read this book. It is great and I have been deeply blessed by reading it. I highly recomond it. God Bless.

First, I do not agree with Brother Ryken on all theological issues put forth in this book. Despite that, I think he has written a superbly beneficial book based on Scripture. His ideas on the Law and how it applies to Christians today is a very sound idea. He divides the Law into 3 categories, Ceremonial, Civil and Moral Law. He states that the Moral Law applies to us today while the others were tied to the Israelites alone, which I could not agree with more. He makes a great argument for why the 10 Commandments still apply to us today and writes a moderately Reformed book. I disagree with his ideas of predestination (I believe Scripture but have a different interpretation, but we both find God to be completely sovereign).

Brother Ryken goes through each of the 10 Commandments in a separate chapter. He makes sound Scriptural references to show why these still apply today.

Brother Ryken has a full set of notes at the end of the book to guide us in further reading while giving deeper tangential inputs that would not fit well in the main text of the book. He also adds 2 indices- a Scriptural index and a General index.

Ryken's basis in writing is that we do not keep God's law in order to be saved. We have been saved by grace alone through faith in Christ alone. But why are we saved? To glorify God, which we do by keeping his commandments. John 14:15.

Whether you are Reformed, Evangelical, Charismatic, Catholic or simply identify as Christian, this book will benefit you on your Walk and will help you know more about how we should act as Christians.

One Of The Few Books Which Is Right On Target

In this book, Pastor Ryken offers basic principles for interpreting and applying God's law and explain these holy words... commandment by commandment, illustrating each with biblical account and relating each to the person and redemptive work of Jesus Christ. This book should be read along with your bible and savored with reflection. I could hardly put the book down...from the first page to the end. Gods holiness and his standards for life are clearly related, and the joy of living by Gods law is vividly portrayed. His explanation on the The Ten Commandment open my eyes up to the deep meaning of the law. Readers will find themselves examining their own lives, changing their ways, and delighting in the grace of God.

This book is, Highly Recommended. Great Commentary for any home library. One book you will want to come back to so that you can refresh your memory. My next book and my suggestion to you will be Ryken's The Communion of Saints

"13 Books" is not a book to be read lightly, it is a book where Leonard Koren explains the process that took place when he created his 12 books and a magazine. Koren is not only an author but an architect and artist. Several of his creations are: WET: The magazine of Gourmet Bathing; Wabi-Sabi; New Fashion Japan; The Graphic Design Cookbook; and, How to Take a Japanese Bath. Anyone familiar with Koren's work would find this book very enlightening.

Koren's format of writing this book is very different from anything I've seen before. He splits his page horizontally. For example, when explaining the inspiration for "17 Beautiful Men Taking a Shower" Koren , on the top portion of the pages, explains the subject matter, his inspiration, organizing principle and greatest difficulty. On the bottom portion of the pages he explains terminology such as: seventeen, art galleries, bathing.
I must say, this is a very creative way of writing, however, why would anyone be surprised coming from an eclectic artist as Koren.

Looking for an eclectic, yet very informative, read? This is it. You will come out by the end of the book much wiser, as well as have many thoughts evoked of your own personal experiences.

Read it for nostalgia or read it for enlightenment. A collection of major articles published in Rolling Stone between 1965 and 1987. Several are interviews, including Keith Moon, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Sting, Bob Dylan, and Jack Nicholson. Then there are the "following the celebrity around for a day" pieces, and the political and social commentary, including that of Hunter S. Thompson. It's just a survey of Rolling Stone-ness for 20 years. Excellent journalism, and that goes for the substantial collection of photos here too.

My 8 yr old son loves the Adam Sharp books. He can't wait for the next one to be written. He's not an avid reader, so it's nice to see him excited to read a book. He felt it was not too easy or too hard to read...he's in second grade. He gave it a "thumbs up!"

The artwork is wonderful, too. How cool is it to go swimming in a tuxedo, looking for sharks. Long live Adam Sharp!

Alec Campbell's African Rock Art: Paintings And Engravings On Stone, superbly and profusely illustrated with more than two hundred examples of David Coulson's color photography, spectacularly and informatively showcases Africa's rock art with examples drawn from the entire continent. The text provides the reader with an authoritative and "reader friendly" historical and interpretative analysis. Alec Campbell draws upon his many years of experience as the founder and former director of the "National Museum of Botswana", and is a resident of the area. David Coulson is founder and chairman of the "Trust for African Rock Art" and combines his special expertise with skills as a photography to provide a visual record of outstanding works, many of which are now endangered by erosion, theft, and vandalism. African Rock Art is an impressive and much appreciated addition to personal, academic and community library African art history and cultural studies collections.

A Masterpiece

Review Date: 2004-05-13
This impressive book by photographer David Coulson and co-author Alec Campbell is a comprehensive study of the rock paintings and engravings of the African continent.

Chapter I deals with the history and peoples of Africa, with special chapters on the Bushmen and Bantu-speaking people. Chapter II is a discussion of rock art and speculations on who the artists were, including the latest research.

Chapter III explores the styles, subject matter and the specific rock art sites, whilst Cheaper IV is devoted to dating. Chapter V deals with Southern Africa under heading for Zimbabwe, Namibia, the southwestern Cape, the Maluti and Drakensberg mountains, the inland plateau and the Tsodilo hills.

The following two chapters are devoted to Eastern and Northern Africa respectively, whilst Chapter VIII discusses the geometric designs and the style called Late White paintings. Chapter IX considers aspects of preservation and the future of Africa's rock art.

The book contains 400 full colour photographs and line drawings plus 7 maps. These photographs also include living people and animals. The maps depict Africa, the language groups, African peoples, the distribution of rock art on the continent, and the specific distribution in Southern, Eastern and Northern Africa respectively.

This classic work concludes with a glossary, bibliography and index. I would also like to recommend the books The Cave Of Altamira, edited by Antonio Beltran, and The Mind In The Cave by Lewis-Williams.

if you are at all interested in alchemy and divination, you have to buy this for yourself! i have studied the art and history of alchemy (the physical art i mean, though i will say that this art is indicitive of/to human spirituality) and i was so enthused when i saw these in my book store. from what i hear now, they are out of print. i have found this set to be a tremendous addition to my tools of learning and that just having these little physical symbols in front of me greatly increases one's ability to memorize these quintessential elements of alchemy. basically, you will have NO understanding of alchemy unless you learn the symbols of it's components and processes. it has been, and continues to be, a refreshing reminder of alchemy's culmination in my life and also serves as a very precise divination tool. it literally took me (and, granted, i have a few years of study) 10 minutes to memorize these and the basic meanings. if you are willing to spend a little time, and you have to be in order to perform any type of divination well, then you will receive several tremendous skills by practicing with this aid. there is no better combination for one who truly loves these ancient and most important arts.
