I had always thought of writing to Playboy to beg them to publish a book of their centerfolds. Nothing can compare to the awe-inspiring beauty that is captured by the full-sized centerfold images. This item is a must-must-have for any true Playboy fan. I will never part with this beautiful collection which was truly a godsend.

A must for any Playboy fan

This is a wonderful book and a steal at the Amazon price. It has been as low as $150 but now seems to be climbing again. Don't be fooled and wait for the new edition coming out in October for $50 ($31.50 at Amazon). The new edition features approx. half-size reproductions of 12"x6" as opposed to the FULL-SIZE reproductions of the original gatefolds from the magazine (approx. 22"x11") in this pricier first edition. As a subscriber since the late 60s, this is a great trip down memory lane as well as a wonderful nostalgic look at the playmates that were before my time. It's a revelation to see those Playmates as they appeared for the first time full-size. And what a treat to have the ones I was familiar with and pasted on dorm room and bachelor apartment walls now preserved fold and staple free in a durable hardback format.

Just as Taschen are releasing a 2nd edition of the massive 'Stanley Kubrik Archives' on October 8, so too are Chronicle Books, releasing a 2nd edition of this huge book of Playboy centrefolds with a $50 retail and $36.50 Amazon pre-order price. - Oct.4
At this moment, Amazon has a very large discount ($150, not $500) on the first printing, probably due to the spreading awareness of the future edition. It is apparently not an up-to-date issue, including the centrefolds from Nov. 2006 until present, though it probably should be after waiting 23 months for the new edition. Wait till October, or 'get it while it's hot'.

This item is spectacular in every way. This book comes in a leather case that, by itself is truly amazing. As expensive as this item is, it is really worth every penny.

DOWNSIDE
This item is huge and weighs almost 40 pounds so Amazon charges like $12 in shipping costs. Thankfully, I was able to purchase this from a 3rd party seller on Amazon and saved quite a bit of money when I added up the item cost and shipping (the 3rd party seller only wanted $3.99 for shipping)!! It came real fast in perfect condition. I am thrilled with this purchase.

Too little is known about this woman in an age that is exploring spiritual healing. The world needs to know more about the Christianity she practiced: Christian Science. The book is a good way to get your feet wet, the next step would be to read Mary Baker Eddy's writings directly.

This book is for people looking for the meaning of life, a meaning to be found only in the search for God. It explains the quest of Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science at the end of the 20th century, a new Christian denomination, but also a way of thinking and living. Very scholarly, very interesting for people who feel concerned by "the new paradigm".Rolling Away the Stone: Mary Baker Eddy's Challenge to Materialism (Religion in North America)

Stephen Gottchalk's writing is articulate and illuminating. A fascinating book which I could hardly put down. Very inspiring and enlighening at times. He thoroughly understood his subject and brings forth his vast and detailed understanding to the reader in a way that is easy to comprehend. It clears up fallacies and inaccuracies . It is an important book for sincere readers.

For those who remember Stephen's articles for the Christian Science periodicals, this is classic Gottschalk. In other words, it is highly detailed, well researched, well thought out, and tends to be much more theologically based than the writings that come out of the Publishing Society. He also has a marked tendency to drift from his focus on occasion, and to get side-tracked onto peripheral lines of thought. In general, a candid and thorough look at the later years of a remarkable life. More analytical and less folksy, this book belongs alongside the biography by Gillian Gill - as both a supplement to it, and as an effective insider's look from someone who truly understands Christian Science theology perhaps even better than many at The Mother Church.

Photographs as Rock and Roll History--Personal Images of the Early Stones

This unique book follows the Stones from their earliest years as a struggling band through their early fame, as recorded by photojournalist and Stones friend Bent Rej. Many of the photos are more intimate than the typical stuff shot of the band, because Rej knew the members. The book is chronologically arranged, with sections on each individual original member as well. The text is informative and serves as a good backdrop for the photos.

What amazes me is that this fifty dollar book is available on Amazon for under five bucks. What is everyone waiting for!? Jump all over this one.

Great beading lessons and ideas

I have owned this book for a couple months. I love this book and highly recommend it for the beading addicted. The text is informative and full of inspiring advice and beading tips. The projects are well-presented and contain additional ideas on variations which encourages the timid to go outside the box. I really like how simple the instructions are for some of the stitches.

As one reviewer has stated, it would be nice if additional steps were pictured for some of the stitches. I have not yet tried in earnest to do the diagonal right angle weave for that reason. I will attempt it when I have a large block of child-free time. But I have successfully made several bracelets and necklaces using the brick, peyote, tri, and quad stitch techniques. These were immensely satisfying to work and complete.

Because of the friendly text, good instructions and great pictures, I rate this book as excellent. It is a well-used book in my beading library.

Want to learn how to properly use seed beads for designs that can be uniquely yours - GET THIS BOOK FIRST. Learn the patterns and yes, even like this author (including myself) you may want to throw your early attempts across the room. But keep at it. Once you master even a few basic stitches through the author's guidance and your determination, I am certain all can readily design their own works of seed bead art. The only factor about this book that I would have liked to see is a few more schematic sketches of the next few rows of beading. However, follow the rules and then create. Other beading projects including cabachon beading first involve the basic stitches - and this book is the best in my library of numerous seed beading books.

This happened to be the first seed bead book I bought, and though I've collected a few others, it remains my favorite. The instructions are clear, the illustrations are excellent, and the project ideas are inspiring (and do-able). My favorite: The spiral stitch -- see the design shown on the cover in Crayola-like colors. It was not only fun to make, but came out exactly as shown. The book is organized in a way that makes sense: after an overview of the materials you will need, there is a chapter devoted to each stitch (with variations). It's full of pretty things you'd actually like to make. (Please note this is seed bead stitching - there is no loom work.)

Here's a review from one of our kids:

I think it is interesting to make the story about magical cloned kids.Yet in the end, the main character was one himself. It was a fantastic book and I enjoyed it.The cover isn't special, but that proves you can't judge a book by it's cover.Sender Unknown isn't a book you want to skip to the end. I would recommend it.

Two weeks ago, we had library class and were told to pick a book that looked interesting to us. I started my hunt around our library. At first, I started reading Missing Girls, but it failed to keep my attention. So I found this book, Sender Unknown, by Sallie Lowenstein.
As soon as my eyes hit the page, I was immediately sucked into the fiction of this book. I could totally relate, even though it is a fiction book. The main character is a boy named Mark. He is fourteen and LOVES computers. His first job is a computer repair guy, but he soon realizes this is not the job for him. Once he assumes a new occupation, which included wearing suites and dress shoes, he purchased an old home. Before he knows it, he starts to receive catalogs with numerous toys in them. Out of the blue, he decided to purchase an action figure. There are no refunds or returns... Mark is in a PICKLE!!
I really liked this book. I could relate to Mark because you don't always know something's going to turn out rottenly until you've done it. I would definitely recommend this book to all ages. It teaches a great lesson in life.

If you are looking for a great book, look no further. Sender Unknown by Sallie Lowenstein is sure to entertain anybody that reads it.This book is about a guy who buys an old house in a small town with old toy catalogs dropping from the mail slot everyday. He gets tired of so many catalogs, that he decides to order something from them, but when the first packages arrive, he finds something he didnt expect. Even more trouble awaits him when he hosts a business party in the middle of winter. After the packages, anything can happen. Lucky for him he has his friend Lady A., and taxi driver Pete to help him out.
My favorite part of the book is definitely when he orders ten dolls from some of the catalogs, and gets pretty surprised when the big packages get pushed into his doorway. Not only do I like this part because the author really paints an image of what is happening in this scene, but also because this is the twist of the story and if what happens in this scene hadn't happened, then the whole book would have been pretty boring.
I would really recommend this book to anybody that likes mystery with some but not alot of fantasy. You can't guess and get right of what will happen next; it is all up to the author to decide. Oh and one more thing, next time you see a tag that reads "no refunds" you better make sure you will get what you expect before ordering anything!

My book is called Sender Unknown. It's by Sallie Lowenstein. A man named Mark buys action figures, and when he gets them they turn out in a whole different way than what he expected. He adopted three orphans so he would not be lonely, but when he ordered action figures for the kids from the catalogs the action figures ended up being real people. These action figures came from catalogs as cloned children with super powers. For example, one could fly and another could hold things that weighed more than most little kids could carry. In addition to the three orphans, Mark ended up with six or seven more cloned children from the catalogs. These children were non-refundable. The catalogs stopped printing a long while back, but they still kept coming to Mark's house. Mark wanted to figure out why the catalogs kept coming. So he hired a man named Pete to figure out who was sending the catalogs and how these kids with super powers got there. Mark wants to send the kids to school, but everyone thinks they are not normal enough and people will make fun of them. So he doesn't send them to school. He sends snail mail asking if any other children were bought from the catalogs and did not turn out as they thought they would. He found out that other people had bought from the catalogs, and they had the same experience.

Yes I thought the book was exciting because it keeps you wanting to read until the end of the book. One thing I wanted to know is where the kids were from. Sometimes I thought I was in the book because I felt it was really going to happen. One of the reasons why is some of the things could really happen like cloning, but other times it made me know it really couldn't happen. For instance they can't clone Humpty Dumpty a cartoon character. So I know I couldn't really buy a real character. Yes the story interested me because I never read a book about cloning people and story characters it was interesting to read about something new and different. I thought these were people who sounded realistic. One person was Mark, who works and still acts like a kid since he graduated school when 14. Another character is Eliot. He's annoying he thinks if you have lots of money don't save it use it. And he thinks Mark's weird when he says his kids have powers and he got them from a catalog. Four other people are Kate, the sister Lady A, Mr. Cannady and Pete. Pete, Lady A, Mr. Cannady, and Kate are smart, didn't just believe you, and stubborn. I thought the ending of the book was disappointing and good cause they never told me how the catalogs got to the house without him seeing. But they did tell me where the kids came from.

There is a lot of dialog, conversations, and it's very descriptive, and the narrator talks a lot. `This house has been unoccupied more years than it's been occupied said the seller." "What's wrong with it?" That's an example of conversation. The author's vocabulary is interesting cause she uses a lot of old words and words I've never heard of. I think it's interesting that she goes from Narrator to dialog and more. One example is "I've got a client meeting me at the shop to pick up things." "I'll be home." Promise." "He hung up." That's one thing I think is interesting about her writing. Instead of just writing, "Mark said," the author writes, "Mark said wearily." Another example is instead of writing, "Pete said" the author wrote, "Pete grumbled." The author does a lot of descriptive words to show the tone of people talking. For example Panic was crawling out of his stomach into his throat. The author writes in a very futuristic style. For example people have powers, people, also they don't read books any more they play on computers. Also they don't play with toys that's old fashion. An example is "Mark said" he was going to buy something from the catalog for his sister's daughter. "Kate said" no I don't want her wasting her time playing when she can be on the computer getting smarter." I thought the falling action was good because it led you to the conclusion you didn't expect. At the ending they told where these weird kids were from. They were cloned. That's why they said before they came here it was cold and damp.

If I was to rate this book I would give it an 8 because it was an awesome book but the ending wasn't what I hoped for. I thought they were going to tell how the catalogs were coming without him seeing. Also I thought he was going to get to read the note to hear about his big job in the experiment. I definitely recommend this book. There are a lot of great things to it like there's a lot of great new words for me, and she was very descriptive.

Another thing I didn't talk about is the kids had super powers like the characters in the catalogs. That's who their identities are. People from catalogs. Finally to sum it up I thought it was a fantastic book even though the ending was a little disappointing. If I were to change the ending I would put how the catalogs were coming without Mark seeing. Also I would tell who made the kids if it was the scientists who just disappeared made them or dome Rascals did it. And that the pages wouldn't be ripped out so he could find out a lot about the big experience. Last of all I think should read this book.

A great book for people of all ages

This book will create a magical journey for people big and small. The storyline is wonderful, and is very creative. The story is about a misfit genius, that moves into an old house. he orders from the catalogs, to buy gifts for his relatives and friends, only to find that the toys he took for "dolls" and "action figures" turn out to be real, living, breathing yet magical creatures. The misfit genius ends up taking care of all 12, and this story tells you what happened, how, and the adventures they go through. This book is truly amazing, and will make anyone, big or small smile. I loved this book very, VERY much.

As a sequel to Azure Bonds only one major character appears in this book. But that is alright as this turned out to be a fantastic story. I did not want this story to end!! My only complaint is that the authors did not write another book using these characters. The story was unique and an all around excellent tale. Nothing lacking in this book. Would like to see a book about how Olive and Jade met up, though, which would precede this story.

The first and third books in the series are good to read once, but Wyvern's Spur can be read over and over again. I can't guess how many times I've read it. While the other books are kind of dark and spooky, WSpur is just fun. It's a kick in the pants. Giogioni is my kind of hero. I doubt the missus'll let me name a kid after him though.... Oh well. Hooray for Giogi!

What can I say? This book is a shining example of good fiction writing. Good plot, good characters, good pacing and a wonderful change of pace from the traditional trilogy formula of having the main characters in book #1 in dire trouble. I am disappointed however, that the only other novel that I have seen with Giogi and Cat in it has been Ed Greenwood's Cormyr (an excellent book in its own right). Highly recommended along with the two other books in this trilogy.

It appears to be that several TSR writers are themselves readers of the works of PG Wodehouse. If so, I'm very very thankful. I feel it is a pity that Giogini Wyvernspur only appears as the main character in only 1 novel. The realms need more stories with this type of clean yet side-splitting humour.

If you can find this book, get it.

It's hard to say whether Wyvern's Spur was the best of the three books, they were all so good. You will not be disappointed in reading this book.

THIS BOOK RECEIVED THE PEN/OAKLAND JOSEPHINE MILES AWARD FOR BEST BOOK OF POETRY.

ALSO, PACIFIC RIM REVIEW OF BOOKS, SUMMER 2007 WROTE:

"In this beautifully written book, Leza Lowitz seeks to share the inner landscape of her yoga journey and to inspire others to take this same journey from individuation to unity...She accomplishes this by capturing the spirit of yoga with strong images and simple free verse firmly grounded in the experience of practice in mind, body, and spirit...This is not the yoga of the hip and trendy, but the yoga of a true seeker--an ordinary woman who has discovered her Self through movement, and has found acceptance and grace through allowing her body and soul to unfold with yoga. Named after yoga postures and breath work, Lowitz's poems capture the spirit of yoga again and again. In "Sutra Hasta Majoriasana (Threading the Needle)," simple yet powerful metaphor reveals the essence of the pose in body, mind and consciousness.

...untangling a knot
that is my life
the knot becomes my teacher...

the needle that is sharp
at dawn
might be broken by dusk...

The thread that is straight today
doesn't know
it will be knotted tomorrow.

The knot
that is tangled today
could be woven into gold
ten years from now.

That is why
I thread the needle,
honoring the odds
steadying my arms
softening my breath
working the knot,
trusting.

Any reader will recognize the moment when challenges are viewed as an opportunity to learn and grow. A yoga practitioner will recall the pose and know that each moment on the yoga mat is a metaphor for life. Lowitz's words inspire us to embrace each posture as an opportunity to remain mindful of each moment, to learn and grow, and to cultivate faith."

Yoga Poems- Lines to Unfold By... is a glorious collection.
These poems bring a beautiful perspective to each asana.
At the end of a practice, I select a poem of an asana of focus for the day. I quietly share this with the class during relaxation, as the mind is open and the body calm. It is truely heartening to me to see the soulful, connection it often brings to the receiver.

This book is ideal to sell in your studio as well as a simple and delightful gift for anyone in your spiritual community...

As someone who came to Yoga after 60, I have found Yoga Poems:Lines to Unfold By from author Leza Lowitz inspiring! Not only has she given a beautiful voice to the asanas but she has given me the desire to go even deeper into the heart of Yoga practice. I can visualize the poses in her poetic imagery. The poems are as serene as Yoga is meant to be. I loved the illustrations and only wish that each pose had its own rather than just those introducing the various sections.

Leza's Yoga Poems are lovely to read while sitting in Upavistha Konasana (Seated Wide Angle Pose) or while eating an icecream sandwich after class. It is wonderful company if you are eating dinner alone. This books structure beautifully reflects the eight "limbs" or stages of yoga. Each inspired poem is named after an asana, (the Sanskrit term for a yoga posture), or a breathing practice. Like the other reviewers who practice yoga, I was amazed by how well Leza Lowitz captured the spirit of each asana. She has successfully united her passion for yoga with her love of poetry. The illustrations by yoga teacher and artist Anja Borgstrom are perfect. This is a magical book that also makes a most romantic present. If you are looking for a gift for the special Yogi or Yogini in your Life, or a perfect present for your teacher, I promise, this book will please them!

Yoga Poems: lines to unfold by
tell the truth about more
than the poses they limn;
they tell about we
who unfold in the poses,
our moods
our aspirations
our whims;
lines to unfold by
are lines to live by;
as we learn to unfold the lines
as we learn to unfold the poses
we unfold ourselves.

Carnival at Candlelight is an awesome book. It takes place in Venice, Italy, 260 years ago on the night of the annual Carnival celebration. It starts out when Jack and Annie recieve a note from Merlin that says they have to save the Grand Lady of the Lagoon from a terrible disaster!

When Jack and Annie get to Venice, they travel to the Carnival in a gondola. Then they walk around and get into trouble from guards and go up flights of stairs, look at maps, and see statues, all the while thinking about their crazy mission. It isn't making any sense!

They go out into Saint Mark's Square and look in their research book for help. The note from Merlin says to find a tower with two men and a bell, climb it, and get on a king of a jungle. Wandering in the crowd, they spot the tower and race up it. Then they spot the lion and use one of their magic rhymes to make the lion come to life. Then they go out over the sea to spot Neptune, the god of the sea.

They learn that the Grand Lady of the Lagoon is Venice, Italy, and they have to save it from a flood. They spot Neptune and tell him to stop the flood. He does and their mission is over.

I am just a kid, but I recomend this book for any fans od the Magic Tree House series. I got this book for Easter of 2005 and read it that day and enjoyed it.

Magic Tree House #33: Carnival at Candlelight is the book for young readers.

I think the author, Mary Pope Osborne, states things clearly in her books and the pictures explain them better. Mary Pope Osborne, in my opinion, is the best author in the world.

Want to hear a book that's really cool? Well, the book Magic Tree House Carnival at the Candle Light will do the trick! This book is amazing. It's about two Aencheris kids Jack and Annie who goes to Venice to save a mysterious person the Grand Lady of the lagoon. But, once they found out about that person it wasn't what they had expected! Jack and Annie figured that this job was getting harder and harder.

Jack and Annie have some wild stuff happening in this wacky book. That's why I'm telling you to read this book! What I most really like about this book is when Jack and Annie said a spell and got to ride on a Golden, shinning, flying, lion. That part was Awesome!

I would recommend this book to someone who loves and who totally enjoys mysteries, because this book has spells, a mystery, and Magic stuff. Well, that's all. I hope you will adore this book.

Mission: to save the Grand Lady of the Lagoon. Place: Venice Italy. When: 260 years back in time on the night of 'Carnival'.

Jack and Annie of Frog Creek are off again on a new mission in the Merlin Series #33. Odds of surviving a dungeon: Fair to Good... i.e., if the 'book of magic' has something to help them, and Merlin's apprentices Kathleen and Teddy, too.

Mary Pope Osborne never fails to create magic in her stories, with backgrounds of historical places, and supporting the suspense that follows Annie and Jack as they follow the instructions in a letter from Merlin -- "...When waters rise beneath the moon,/Visit the Grand Lady of the Lagoon." The heroes meet grouchy guards, a son of a famous painter, climb the Giants' Stairs, fly the sky on a Golden Lion, and meet Neptune.

Osborne visited Venice and of the city she writes: "...no photographs can truly do Venice justice. No notes or diagrams can truly capture her. Venice lives best in memory, stirring the deep waters of the imagination."

Other Recommendation: Night of the New Magicians by Mary Pope Osborne

Carnival at Candlelight is a funfilled book. It all starts when Jack and Annie of FrogCreek has the same dreams. (Which was sent by Teddy and kethleen). They decide to go to the TreeHouse
and finds teddy and kethleen fast asleep. 'Then later they wake up and they said that they will not be going with them on their adventure.' 'Oh No!' Said Annie 'But what if we need your magic?' Teddy Said 'Morgon thinks that you are ready to use magic your own.''Really?' said Jack 'Yep'. Said Teddy 'But we don't know any magic.' said Annie 'Remember what I said if we work together we can do anything.' said Teddy 'Anything is possible but you just said you were'nt coming with us'. said Annie 'Thats true thats why we give you this Wow a 10 magic rhymes book!' said Jack 'Yes,they are ment to last for your four journeys.' said teddy 'Each line is in Teddy's language, and one in mine the language of the seal people.' said kethleen. my opinion is that this is a fantastic adventures book.

"Carnival at Candlelight" by Mary Pope Osborne was a delight to read. I generally don't like the fantasy genre but I absolutely love the "Magic Tree House" series. One of the things that I love about this series of books is the author's ability to blend factual knowledge with adventure and excitement. As a teacher I appreciate this ability because I believe that students will learn a lot of facts from these books plus they will be enjoying a grand adventure too.
"Carnival at Candlelight" is the fifth book in a group of Magic Tree House books called the "Merlin Missions." Jack and Annie (the main characters) have a fantasy adventure in real places in real times. In this book they travel to the city of Venice, Italy. There they discover the mystery and magic of Venice.
This book is filled with factual informations such as, "Instead of roads, Venice has waterways called canals. People glide along the canals in shallow boats called gondolas."
Not only is this book filled with adventure and factual knowledge but it also has great illustrations. The illustrations in this book make the story come alive. The illustrations really give you an idea of how Jack and Annie feel during key moments in the story.
This is a great book for second graders as a read-aloud. Third graders could read it by themselves.

This book touches on a lot of information that standard crystal guides are lacking. Very detailed, but sadly no pictures. Crystal Enchantments has a lot to say about scrying and stone divination. Although this book is lacking a few major crystals I was hoping to learn more about, I found out about a lot of other crystals I have never studied.

Very good.

this book provides a lot of information about stones and crystals that is informative and written in a fashion that isn't dry. Not many pictures, but the book is super reference.

I have always enjoyed stone, used to work with a stone wheel shaping them.

Always felt such power from the different ones, almost as if they called to me, telling me what shape they wanted to me. So I appreciate knowing more about them and their properties.

This book is mostly text with no "real" illustrations (only a very small handful of pictures and diagrams). Very informative and is most definatly a solid choice for reading material of this subject.

A great perspective

Written in the simple and personal style for which Conway is known, this work carries on in the tradition of a more folklorical and Pagan perspective of working with minerals. This book helps integrate history, tradition, and the more New Agey perspective, and Conway also adds a bit of mineralogy to the mix.

This work largely addresses crystals for their healing and ritual/magickal connotations, and thus adds a facet that other comprehensive works leave out. This is a must-have for all crystal workers, especially those of a Pagan or Earth-based worldview.

I received the book in the mail and before the evening was out I had finished half of it.
After finishing the rest of it I set the book down to let the whole thing digest. The next day I started over from the beginning.
Kenn's story is quiet, deep and though provoking.

From the very beginning, this book drew me. Utilizing an intriquing manner, the author describes the modern day role of a Shaman and connections to deeper levels of our selves. This is a must read for anyone who is interested in learning who we really are and the potential of spirtual journeys.

The brilliance of this book is in its readability--Kenn Day provides a wonderful introduction to shamanism in a very down-to-earth format. He uses the structure of a travel narrative in very clever ways--while the major story follows two characters as they travel in Europe, it also contains the stories of the deeper journeys these two characters experience along the way. I appreciated both the candour and vividness with which it was written.

Hard to put down!

I started reading this book on vacation and found it hard to put down. It was fun, informative, helpful, and a really great read. I just had to know how it all worked out for Soli and Kenn (the two primary characters in the book). The structure of the book - narrative supported by deepening exercises all tied together by the story of their journey - was excellent. If you want an introduction to modern-day shamanism that is also entertaining, this is your book!
