I received this book recently as a gift and am 100% satisfied! The color photos cover every aspect from the rise of Hitler to the dropping of the A bomb on Japan. Anyone thinking that the only good photos that exist of WW2 are in black and white needs to buy this book- you will not be disappointed!

This Book was very interesting. It was also very sad. I liked this book because there were alot of interesting facts in this book. It also had some rare pictures of the attack. this book describes the terrist attack on the United States of America, and the effects on the nation and people. I reccomend this book to anybody that wants to find out more about September 11, and find the facts, not the rumers.

Beautiful Photos of All Kinds of Churches
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-04-27

If you want a book of photography of interesting buildings, this is a great one to consider. But it is also a fine record of the churches of America down through history. So it is a reminder of the dedication and the aspirations of believers who have dotted the American landscape with places of worship that are inspirational whether one is going inside for worship or just passing by. The author's credentials are impeccable, as the director of the National Museum of American History in Washington he knows his subject backwards and forwards. This is a coffee table book at a bargain price--snap it up for the art, photography, architecture, history and faith-minded people on your gift list. Including you!

Although this book contains "only" 224 pages, it seems to be much larger. Some of it may be due to the larger format (9"x11"). Most of it may be due to the excellent large (full-page and two-page) photographs. The accompanying text is concise, easy-to-read yet very informative. The photographs cover many aspects of vineyards and workers. The books does a good job covering the various areas of the U.S. and provides a surprising amount of detail about history and current status of each.

Learn About the World of Today and the Past Quickly

I love this book. Although it is rated for ages 9-12, I am a graduate of an Ivy League school and I find that it quickly refreshes as well as adds to my (already good) knowledge of world history.

Its point of view is commendable: the author writes as if he were an extra-terrestrial just visiting Planet Earth, thus can write about all peoples--American, Europeans, Hispanics, Polynesians, Africans, Japanese, Chinese, Asian Tigers--in a neutral but interested and caring way, for his people out there in the stars to read.

He touts the amazing achievements of several peoples but also pokes fun at their faults and confusions in a breezy but not overblown style. He tells us of nationalism and the rise and fall of individual empires and nations including their feats, truths and dreams as well as their lies, illusions, and exaggerations. Even Science is shown as a rising God that blesses us with favors but also punishes us with headaches.

The book is illustrated in full color, comic-book style, and peppered with delightful stories in virtually every page. It is a good first book or refresher for anyone wishing to start, or again get going at, delving deeper into world history, from the Big Bang several billion years ago to the present. The readers ends up both appreciative and skeptical of humanity, in short with the truth.

I noticed a couple of typos at the end of the book, but they are minor blemishes in a truly excellent book of about 120 pages.

This is a great book about Ann Hamilton. It contains far more information if you would think with amazing big size photos of her work. While, it does missing a few of her works that contain more of audio in them. I still think this is a great book. Additional paper cover is pretty, but it gets damage very easily, so I don't like that. Without the paper cover, the solid cover is very plane and boring. I think the book could have used some more design though in its cover, but I forgive them because book is so good.

Behind the Scenes

I will admit my connection to this book and author early on: Bob Stewart has been at various times my pastor, and always a friend. That being said I know this book comes from his heart because much of the material we have previously discussed over kitchen tables in several parts of the country.

Anyone in the Church knows it is in trouble. But, overall, it's generally in trouble in some form or fashion. The question is: how do we pull believers/congregations out of the ditch and finish the race well?

Pastor Stewart offers practical explanations of many problems and to-the-point solutions. Some chapters have an intense squirm factor so be prepared to look inside your own walk to see if you are contributing to the problems you believe to be plaguing your church. As much as it pains me to quote any 60's philosophy: If you're not a part of the solution, you're part of the problem. I fear this is truer than we care to admit.

Winner of the Governor General's Award for poetry, and with just cause! This is the single best collection of poetry I have ever read. McKay, the avid bird watcher and lover of nature in general, clearly takes a special liking to flight and the moon. Throughout 'Another Gravity' his words seem to lift off the ground, and carries us soaring with his imagination to those very seemingly unattainable heights. A pleasure to read, and highly recommended.
