The author explores religious concepts, prejudice, hatred, love, compassion, and relationships all so well in this easy-to-read novel. Real life issues to ponder with well-developed and fun to know characters. You'll be glad you read this one.

are cleverly packaged in a novel that reveals intriguing yet believable characters. The author comforts his readers' hearts while they journey through Ryne's path to healing. Vivid depictions of universal struggles are interlaced with love, kindness, and innocence. When readers finish the journey, they have learned more than Ryne's story. They have learned how a child can lead them to a place of forgiveness, humility, and growth. Easy to read, easy to love, but not easy to forget.

I can't imagine who wouldn't enjoy this book. Appears that everyone who reads it takes something important from the story. I loved the characters and loved the story line. It leaves you wanting more of the lives of the folks of small town Tynbee. Can't wait for another book from this author.

I wasn't too familiar with this author's other work, so I didn't really know what to expect when I started this book. What a wonderful surprise! Scott Philip Stewart weaves together a heartwarming (and sometimes heartbreaking) story filled with characters with whom you can relate...and empathize. Everyone knows couples who have tried every imaginable way to conceive a child - IVF, etc. - and the exhiliration associated with finally having one. This book draws you in with just such a couple, living in unfortunate circumstances, and keeps you pulling for them through a series of twists and turns. You have a front row seat as you witness the power of love, hate, raw bigotry, redemption, and high-minded idealism. Ryne will tug at your heartstrings, and you'll think about him long after you put this book down.

I sure hope another book is on the way...more, please!

What an amazing book! I fell in love with every single character in this book (and this book has some of the most well-developed, captivating characters I've "met" in a while!) Everything about this story was well done...I literally could not put it down. Esther in particular really came alive for me...I could see her, hear her, and truly feel for her very quickly. She made me laugh out loud, cheer out loud (terrific scene where she charges into a parade and beats up an unrighteous man), and cry my heart out. As a truly avid reader (2-4 books/week for 30+ years and church librarian), it is a rare book that I can say is simply PERFECT! I hope that the author will write another book and let us know how things progress in the life of Esther, Olie, Sister Styker, the pastor and his wife, Luther, and the entire church body in Tynbee. I'll be waiting...
Very happy reader!

I was fortunate enough to see this art exhibit in a museum and bought the guide after I saw the exhibit. I used this book often when I taught history to special education students. I bought the newer edition to donate to my college sorority house hoping that some of the current women would be inspired by the stories of some of these women.

I was blessed to recieve this book in 1990 as a gift from a dear friend. Throughout the years this book has been a form of encouragement in my daily life through various things. Once my daughter turned ten we sat down together and read through I DREAM A WORLD, She was captivated. I have now passed this book on to my daughter and she proudly displays it in her room with trophies, clay art, pictures, and souviners.

I was given this book when I was a freshman in architecture college. When I saw Ms Sklarek, I immediately wrote the publisher and got her addres and wrote her a letter. To my surprise she wrote back to me and her later inspired me to continue studying architecture. Now...17 years and three degrees later I came across her name again during a conversation and I decided to contact her again and again, she sent me her business card. Since our architectural firm has a committee that procures speakers, I plan to invite her to my firm to give a presentation on Women in Architecture. So, I said all that to say...not only should we find our mentors, but we should also communicate with them whenever we can.

Marketing Champions. Practical strategies for improving marketing's power, influence, and business impact. Young, Weiss, & Stewart. 2006. ISBN 9780471744955 This book is a distillation of hundreds of articles, case studies and research papers from MarketingProfs.com. If you have not checked it out, this website is home to some very valuable and pragmatic marketing ideas, info and research. In any other year this book would be my choice of marketing book of the year. I classify it as the getting things done in marketing book!It is a landmark book in that in one volume you have the best advice for marketing your value to clients, internal executives, internal groups and your own group. The section on how to talk in business terms is worth the price of the book. I recommend it to CEOs, CFOs, VPs R&D, Sales and Marketing as well as those just graduating from school. Its also a great read! A library keeper and re-reader.

I'm not sure just how much thought went into this book. It's also very hard to figure out how many hours the authors Roy A. Young, Allen M. Weiss and David W. Stewart contributed to the over all preparation of the concepts put into this book.

But after countless hours reading the chapters of this book before the advance uncorrected proof, scrutinizing the first five chapters with heavy introspection and experimentation of the ideas I can tell you the following: It would take you countless personal hours, unmeasurable amounts of interviews, and the experience of CEO's from dozens of companies to amass the wealth of knowledge that you can easily pull out of this book.

So would you want to try to attempt what these authors have personally done for you in order to give you insight beyond the competition? If you wouldn't do you dream of failing in your endeavours as a marketing advisor, consultant or company? Well I'm very proud to say that some of the above endorsements from Phil Kotler and Seth Godin are more than advertising endorsements by some of the leading marketing experts. But they are geniune endorsements that really help you to recognize how rare this book is. More importantly how different the perspective of these three gentleman really are.

For example their input about what is a marketing compass?, How does a marketing compass work?, and what you can do to put your own marketing compass in order are sure to cause you to think more deeply about these concepts.

Part one and two are so full of marketing ideas, so architectually rich in sound marketing concpets that truly the authors could have clearly pulled their stop sign out and said "hey were going to stop right here" but thank God they didn't. They went on in part three to go deeper than a scuba diver in their exploration of how to manage east. Exploring ideas that show you how you can "Bust Silos and Build Bridges" giving you five techniques to apply some wonderful ideas.

And this is afer a wealth of information where they show you how to break down your Myths of Marketing. I'll admit first that my myths were trapped but what I discovered from Roy Young is quite an eye opening list of good marketing strategies that work. Their input on how to improve upon your Marketing language will make a huge difference in your marketing relationships. Whether they are in the company or outside of the company the language barriers with in your grasp are very limited.

Here's your chance to break the marketing code. This really is a great book with so many ideas I put it in the reference part of my library. Why? Because I'll be using it to reference for many years to come. Thanks for your time....................

I cannot tell you how big a difference the `speaking the language' strategies made. The silent pauses down the end of the phone when I took a particular marketing or strategic idea and translated it according to intangible assets, goodwill, when I talked about the inventory turnover and leverage, actually spoke volumes!!!

I was also able to connect the goals the CEO has for the new company we are launching and connect them directly to downstream and upstream marketing to drive profit growth and top-line profit.

The relief I could here in my CEO's voice was awesome... I know I've gained credibility and put in place the beginnings of a great marketing foundation.

THANK YOU!!! I knew I needed to be doing what you say in the book.... I just didn't know HOW. You make it clear and doable!!!

Stop Being Labeled "The Promotions Guy/Gal"!
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2007-04-22
If you are tired of the label, "promotions guy or gal", then this book is for you because it expands on the true definition and role of a marketer. Many companies like to put marketing in the advertising, promotions, communications box, and this is where most marketing professionals reside in the organization. However, this is a recipe for marginalization.

A true marketing professional masters promotions, advertising and the like, but expands the marketing role to own the customer relationship and experience. For marketing professionals to be taken seriously and have a "seat" in executive circles they must be concerned with terms not usually associated with marketers like cash flow, earnings, shareholder value, and reputation. Even more important, marketing must contribute to corporate and business strategy with daily input and research from having a firm pulse on customer wants and future needs.

Roy Young, Allen Weiss and David Stewart show that marketing can and should focus on more than just the "Promotion" aspect of marketing. Chapters detail how to work closely with others in the organization from sales, operations, finance, R&D and even the executive office.

The book has very limited treatment of many of the technologies (CRM, data warehousing, analytics etc...) that help enable the measurement of marketing results. But overall, its message is too powerful to not give the book five stars.

As a marketer, if you like staying in the promotions box and limiting your career opportuniites then don't read this book. If, however, you have aspirations of the executive suite, or at least the invitation to executive level discussions, then pick up this book and dive in!

This book contains many seldom to never seen photographs from the Mantle family archives that make the book priceless. The inserted reproductions of Mantle memorabilia are a perfect supplement that give the reader an insight to Mickey that you can't get anywhere else. Top that off with great stories from Mickey Herskowitz, David Mantle and Danny Mantle and you have a real winner.

Mantle was a one-of-a-kind ballplayer that the sport has not seen since his retirement. Almost 40 years later, Mickey still holds many baseball records including the fastest time from home plate to first base (3.1 seconds), the longest measured home run (565' even though he hit a few in excess of 600' that could not be measured) and most World Series home runs (18).

The legend of #7 will live forever.

In Tales of Dirt, Danger and Darkness, Paul Steward shows us the intensity, the peril, the exhilaration of subterranean exploration. These tales will thrill, amuse, and frighten--in other words, they do exactly what good stories are supposed to do, entertain and inform.

This book is a must-read for cavers and non-cavers alike, and for adventurers in general (including the armchair variety).

Paul Jay Steward's novel of short stories, "Tales of Dirt, Danger, and Darkness," is a variety show of caving macabre. The author is your host as he appears throughout the book as if to say, "Welcome to my nightmare." Every page is filled with wry commentary and twisted wit as Paul guides you through caving anecdotes and tales that will make you paranoid enough to avoid the dark recesses of your own garage. This book not only held my interest, it also gave me the creeps and made me laugh out loud. I heartily recommend this one.

Although not a caver myself, I certainly have enjoyed the beauty of caves. They have always seemed to have a life of their own, but now, after reading this collection of stories, I see dark and terrifying things in every corner (which is not a bad thing since I love a good horror tale).

These stories truly reach out and grab your heart and give it a good twist. No matter what your views were on caves before, wonderful or scary...you won't walk away from this book and see them the same ever again.

Mr. Steward's book should come with a sticker like a sign I once saw at a cave entrance. "WARNING, ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!"

I once enjoyed going into caves. Now I think I'll just be content with the IDEA of going into caves.

Seriously, Paul Steward's stories are intriguing and scary. In fact, the next time I'm with friends at a late-night campfire I'm going to pull out Paul's book and read the one about the two guys who make the mistake of trying to convince a landowner to let them explore a cave on his property...

If you think you like caves, you need to read this book. There are some things you should know...

The Darker Side

Review Date: 2004-01-29
Outrageous, bizarre and funny, Paul Steward's book, TALES OF DIRT, DANGER AND DARKNESS, transports the reader into realms of terror not often visited. The horrors of the cave world, presented as entrapment and death, remind the reader that, in darkness, the mind is precariously perched between fantasy and reality and between good and evil. The terror of being accountable to the devil is there because of human greed and the desire for fame and power. And Steward often approaches the episodes in this book with subtle humor. We all have our spiritual dark sides, so clearly presented in this book. An electrifying collection of original short stories, and an excellent read!

If it is true that our eyes are the "windows" of our souls then human sound is surely the expression of the soul. Stewart Pearce, in his richly readable THE ALCHEMY OF VOICE, guides us to discover our own vocal sound as a force, a doorway to the soul's intention and as our own healing potential. His voice exercises are excellent and clearly described; anyone can access these guided explorations in sound quite easily. Anyone who needs to be fully present in their work or life and who wishes to have vocal clarity, authority and authenticity would benefit from this delightful guide: actors, teachers, parents, civic leaders, executives and of course, healers....anyone and all.

I recommend THE ALCHEMY OF VOICE most enthusiastically.

"When Stewart Pearce speaks through THE ALCHEMY OF VOICE I become transfixed. He teaches how to be magnetic, through resonance which is carried on waves of pure sound. I have practiced the exercises from this book and I have experienced this resonance, as sound waves cleanse and re-energize my energy field with waves of peaceful light.
I love Chapter 8 - Words are Organic - which reveals that words have enormous power though most of the time we are completely unconscious of how we use them. I have had the privilege of hearing Stewart speak - from his heart - his words in turn entered mine.
Stewart is clearly a Master and I feel that his book is a must at this time as our culture has lost touch with the knowledge that sound is a vehicle for healing."

....the resonance of your heart and the song of your soul." Nobody could have expressed it better than renowned voice coach and personal teacher Stewart Pearce in his book "Alchemy of Voice"! It is a beautiful written account of the author's own spiritual journey to find his " personal key note" and as a consequence his heart's desire. Stewart Pearce became a famous voice coach who teaches not only at London's Globe Theatre but all over the world - wherever people fascinated by his book ask for his support and guidance. The beauty of the book is that it doesn't really matter whether you are an actor, a Top Executive in the corporate world or a politician preparing for the next speech in parliament. We all use our voices to convey our message; either by persuasion, seduction or heart felt passion to convince our audience. Stewart Pearce explains why it is so important that the tone of our voice reflects our inner felt conviction because only then we come across as authentic and are in the end convincing. As long as our mind (ratio) is not fully aligned with our heart (emotion), we will always miss this ultimate goal of eventually becoming our real selves. In addition, Stewart Pearce provides us with some very powerful tools in describing some very simple but highly effective exercises to heighten our awareness and becoming more conscious when using our voice. Whatever your goals is, you could simply use this book and learn the techniques it provides you or start the journey to find IT! The distinctive sound of your own note!

In addition to the spiritual, you will quickly learn the practical: You will learn depth, texture, flexibility, clarity, confidence, and POWER your voice is capable of.
The "voice" will have new meaning after experiencing this book.

Mr. Pearce is that magic voice which is so rare in current literature - not only a master of what he speaks but one of the most exhilarating stylists of our time. The voice, our voice and its story, is made clear through an absorbing text told in imaginative terms. By indirection it summarizes and insizes upon a time and a society. Mr. Pearce is a master of his subject but also very definitely an artist, with something like a genius for precision and clarity concerning the voice and its evocation which is unsurpassed in writings of this kind. The Alchemy of Voice ennobles and enables us to hear again our voice which we would not forget if we could, teachings we could not forget if we would, truths which are as actual as the man who speaks them.

Eating Between the Lines has a wealth of information about food. This book explains what the product labels really mean. I've never come across such a book before. It is presented in such a way that it keeps my attention. So, it is not just another boring nutrition book full of big words and numbers. I could really see taking this book to the grocery store for tips on healthy eating. I might feel a little silly if people look at me funny but I am sure the health benefits would be worth it. Maybe one day I would even know the info well enough to not have to bring the book to the store. But for now, I will brave the possibility of looking silly because a person just isn't born knowing the truth behind all the food labels.

I like this book because it's not agenda-driven or political. Kimberly Lord Stewart focuses on the yawning gap between a lot of people and the healthy food they want to eat, and feed their families. She stays away from the politics and answers questions like "What's the difference between organic and regular milk, and is organic worth the extra money?" and "How can I tell whether this fish is safe to eat?"

Stewart did a ton of research with authoritative sources. She knows her stuff.

If you want to read a philosophical treatise on food, buy The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals . But if you're trying to figure out which cereal to feed your 3-year-old, buy "Eating Between the Lines."

Even though I am a sustainable food business owner, I found so much new and helpful information in this book. Stewart has done a thorough job of researching and explaining, in language that everyone can understand, the labyrinthine inner-workings of the "natural," and not-so-natural food business. Eating Between the Lines should be the handbook every shopper keeps in his or her grocery cart!

I've been a professional chef for 28 years and was startled by the huge amount of product information I was able to learn from Kimberly Lord Stewart's research. I recommend this book to all of my culinary students and anyone who wants to learn more about the foods they cook and eat.

Ten reasons I highly recommend Kimberly Lord Stewart's "Eating Between the Lines":

1. It's informative without being didactic or boring.
2. The anecdotes are entertaining and thought-provoking.
3. Several times during the reading of this book, I found myself saying out loud: "Wow! I didn't know that!"
4. I've gone back to the book several times to use as a reference before grocery shopping.
5. The book now holds an esteemed place in my house--above the stove with my dog-eared cookbooks.
6. It's obvious that Ms. Stewart has thoroughly researched this subject.
7. This has to be the best treatise on U.S. food laws written for the average American consumer.
8. I understand now the differences and similarities between organic, natural, farm-raised (etc, etc.) foods.
9. There is no agenda here---just thorough, reasoned, interesting writing.
10. Ms. Stewart's passion for food leaps right through the pages of "Reading Between the Lines"!

Egypt: Yesterday and Today

After reading this beautifully illustrated table-top book comparing Egyptian scenes of the past and present, we purchased it for our granddaughter who is planning a career as an Egyptologist. The artwork is super, and the narrative is clear and crisp. An outstanding gift.

A good overview of a great artist.

Many books on David Robert's are small or not generous enough to allow you full scope to enjoy his paintings or they focus on his Levantine paintings.

This book is probably the best around that is not to expensive but gives you a feel for his grand Egyptian paintings. Some really nice ones of Sphinx, pyramids and also some of the lesser temples feature. The only other book which is now out of print that deals with this subject well is Peter Clayton's the Re-discovery of Ancient Egypt. Thames and Hudson.

thank you mister Roberts.

This book is no more available in France (I'm from Paris), and I saw some sketches of David Roberts a trip in Aswan, so wished discover his work. I am delighted with this book. The high quality of printing, the intersting texts (even for a french citizen) are what was expecting. The most spectacular sketches are those of Isis temple that show the paintings on columns and ceiling nowadays disapeared. It is also fascinating to see the evolution of egyptian civilisation from 19th century and today, regarding way of life and architecture.
In one word : thank you mister Roberts.

As in the previous Roberts books, this format of a real-life photograph side by side with the artist's rendering of the same scene gives the reader a very reflective perspective into the Ancient World.

This is a most amazing book, it has both water colours and photos of the sights of Ancient Egypt. As a reminder of a special holiday or a factual account it is the best. The size of the book makes it prominent coffee table book and easy to just pick up and dip into another wondeful page.

this is basically a nice companion book to Alton's second roadtrip. A little short on recipes--like all good cooks these folks jealously guard their secrets!. the series is an "A+", this book is more of a "B".

Great read for food lovers!

I grew up on the Mississippi and many parts of the book took me back to a wonderful time in my life....the 1950's, before the interstate highway system. Our family vacations were spent meandering along the highways of the day, now called back roads, and discovering all that there was to be discovered and eventually getting to our destination. Feasting on Asphalt The River Run is very well written, beautifully photographed, the recipes are great. I will enjoy reading it over and over and look forward to Alton Browns next "Asphalt" book.

I really enjoy Alton Brown's work, especially Good Eats. Feasting on Asphalt is a great companion piece to the Feasting on Asphalt television special. Alton has an easy writing style, that is very reminiscent of the way he speaks. There are many recipes in the book, as well.
