Stewart Thomas rates another wow on this reader's scale! TYBURN is an extraordinary read.

Jessica Dearing is a strong, courageous woman caught in the center of a storm of circumstances that could end her life.

On her deathbed, Jessica's mother asks her to protect her sister, Elizabeth, a woman with a questionable reputation among men. Jessica promises her mother, but didn't realize it would also include enduring Elizabeth's hatred and protecting her from herself as well as a ruthless man who wants to marry Jessica at any price.

Morag the witch prophesies Jessica's destiny will be to choose between two men. One who hides in shadows of deception, and one who is in the company of the Devil.

Two men--Edward Stanmore the pirate and enemy of England and Richard Langhelt of the King's Royal Guard--tear Jessica's heart and loyalty. Richard despises Edward for viciously slaughtering his family and lives for the day he can see him hanged.

Morag tells Jessica hate's a powerful force, but love can always defeat it. One will put a noose around his neck; the other can remove it.

The ocean wasn't the only place wicked men roamed, and sometimes Jessica's only protection was from men who would rape her and slit her throat on a ship's deck without mercy. Things are not what they seem, and the outcome is shrouded in a haze of lies and deception until the last page is turned.

Mr. Thomas delivers an enthralling read, with a heroine every woman would love to emulate in the face of danger. This author is on my to-be-bought list!

Tyburn is a passionate tale of love, hate, envy, greed and almost any other emotion you can think of. Taking place in the late 1700's, Tyburn tells the story of Jessica Dearing and all the men who love her as they journey through a trail of secrets, lies, and battle. Jessica finds that she is the object of affection for both Edward Stanmore, an Irish pirate and Richard Langhelt an English military officer. While Jessica is struggling to determine which of the two men her heart truly belongs to readers will become engrossed in a tale of betrayal to friends, family, and country. With the occasional, yet perfectly timed assistance of a witch named Morag, Jessica handles every obstacle with moral fortitude and strength not often reflected in writings about women in this era. Even the characters in the book could not help but notice that Jessica had courage and valor that exceeded that of many of the men in the story. As a result of the constant drama that seems to unfold, unlikely partnerships are developed that make this story both romantic and action packed until the very end.

This book is so full of action and the story so multifaceted and complex, that I could not wait to read the next page to discover what was next to unfold. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and think that it would make an excellent movie. Stewart Thomas' writing is so intense that it immediately draws the reader in and takes them to another place and time. I look forward to more from this author in the future...

Everything I have read written by Tom Harpur has benefitted me in so many ways. His common sense approach, directness, intelligence and fun style of writing inspire me always. Many authors have provided interesting and absorbing reading, but Harpur's books have motivated me to make significant and lasting changes in my life that have made it better.

This book describes various forms of spiritual healing along with specific scientific research verifying their effectiveness. Well researched and documented, it gives substance to an intriguing but often discounted subject. There is hope here for all who suffer and have not found help through traditional means. There is inspiration for all who take a deeper view of life.

Great review of headaches and migraine in particular

I am an otolaryngologist (aka ENT doctor) who sees a lot of patients with "sinus headache", most of whom have migraines. Although this book is presumably written for the lay person, and does a nice job for that audience, I have highly recommended this book to many doctors in training, and for physicians who see migraine patients, but may not have a lot of personal experience or professional experience with treating migraines. Its very readable, concise, and practical. I'm going to buy a couple of copies for my students to use while they are working with me!

Anyone who experiences headaches and Migraines or knows someone who does needs some good books about headaches and Migraine in our libraries. This book is a quite worthy addition to anyone's library. Written "for general readers," the book is, "a comprehensive overview of causes, diagnoses, and treatments" written in a logical, easy flowing style. You'll find it complete, up-to-date, and easy to understand. Bravo!

I bought this book for my 9 month old daughter at a London airport bookstore. Almost a year later, it's still one of my very favorites. The lovely illustrations, I especially love the sheep, are wonderful but the poem is outstanding. This is one of those books that you hope that your child will want you to read over and over, even if it's in the same evening. With my first child, we thought Boynton was the best. After purchasing this book, I would trade all our Boyntons for just one more Duffy. This book is also timeless and enjoyable for children (and adults) of any age. I can definitely see myself reading this book to my daughter for years to com .

This book is difficult to read because of the painful reinactment of depression. I seemed to be drawn into his world and could relate to some of his thought processing. It is basically written on the thought level and it's premise is that we have the power to change our thoughts and be in "choice". I would recommend this book to anyone who has done introspection or in depth counseling. This is a rare and raw treatment of our emotional states.

I am so sick of "how to" books so the title of this caught my eye. I also took a workishop from Sebastian , the author and it was fantastic. It was not on this subject but it was just as powerful. I am now ordering two more copies for friends. The book is sort of a journey inside the head of someone. You can't put it down because you are waiting to see what he thinks of next.It was like listening to a great teacher. You learn without effort. Keep them coming Sebastian.

Several years after reading about Divine Right's adventures in The Last Whole Earth Catalog, I pulled into a shopping center and saw a Volkswagon bus with the license plate URGE. Of course I had to wait around for the owner to return to his vehicle and when he arrived I went up to him and asked "Are you DR?" "No" he said with a smile, "He went on a trip".

A Reference for a sane life...

What can be said? You had to be there. The Whole Earth Catalog series was a sort of an instruction manual to living a useful life during the difficult years of the late 60's and early 70's. It showed all the parts, and contained alot of information about how to put them together (even though the catalog enspoused the idea that "We can't get it together... it IS together"). The Last Whole Earth Catalog also contains the added delight of "Divine Right's Trip", a novella by Gurney Norman; the tale of one Freak's quest to find meaning in the drug-hazed world of little money but lots of deep-thinking during the counter-culture revolution of the Vietnam era.

"DRT" also happens to be the only thing I ever ordered from the catalog. Sort of. In a fit of nostalgia I purchased it a couple of months ago from, well, amazon.com.

So welcome to the 90's! It's a different world now, and you probably can't find many of the businesses and vendors listed, but if you can find a copy... GET IT! It's history, man. Farout.

For those of you in Washington or Oregon, or even if you plan on traveling to the Northwest, this book is a must-have. It lists farmer's markets, organic stores, and all the restaurants that are vegan/vegetarian or have good vegetarian menus. Not only that, but it has several articles in the back about general vegetarian health and can be used as a quick reference guide for on the road. I highly reccommend it!

A useful guide for exploring the veg-friendly Pacific NW
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2004-02-22
Veg-Feasting in the Pacific Northwest does an great job bringing all of Washington's and Oregon's vegetarian/vegan/veg-friendly establishments in one book. It is divided into 3 sections: Dining (restaurant reviews/listings), Shopping (natural food stores and farmers market listings), and Living (articles about nutrition and other topics relating to a vegetarian diet). I'll break down my review to each of these 3 sections...

Dining Section: I have lived in Seattle my entire life and therefore I thought I knew of practically every vegetarian and veg-friendly restaurant in the area -- nonetheless I found plenty of new restaurants I am now looking forward to trying! And when I'm getting hungry during my next road trip, it will be nice to know where the veg-friendly places are when I pass through unfamiliar cities. While they did overlook a few of my favorite veg-friendly restaurants in Seattle, they do ask for feedback to make future editions even more comprehensive -- so I'm not going to penalize the book a star for that.

Shopping Section: While I have long known all of the the natural food stores close to my house, new vegetarians will certainly find the listings useful to find the stores closest to where they live. Like the Dining section, this section will be especially handy when I'm travelling through or visiting unfamiliar cities. Including the region's farmers markets along with the natural food stores is a nice idea as well.

Living Section: While the articles in this section are interesting and well-researched, many long-time vegetarians/vegans (like myself) will already be aware of the nutritional, environmental, ethical, etc., aspects of eating a more plant-based diet. But beginning and aspiring vegetarians should find this section extremely useful, as it covers all of the usual concerns and questions people have about how and why to eat a vegetarian diet.

Summary:
Strongly recommended for anyone interested in fully exploring Washington and Oregon's many vegetarian-friendly, vegetarian, and vegan establishments.
Experienced vegetarians/vegans living in (or visiting) Washington or Oregon should own this book solely for the comprehensive restaurant and store listings.
For new or aspiring vegetarians living in WA/OR, this book is a must-have -- it contains all of the basic information they'll need to start exploring vegetarianism. (I wish this book existed when I first became a vegetarian!)

Maureen Jennings moved to Canada from Birmingham, England when she was seventeen. After studying Philosophy, Psychology, and English literature, she became an English teacher at Ryerson Polytechnic Institute. After eight years of teaching, she did an about face and set herself up as a psychotherapist. VICES OF MY BLOOD is her sixth Detective Murdoch mystery, but she has also published a non-fiction book entitled MAP OF YOUR MIND.

Detective Murdoch is called when Charles Howard, a Presbyterian minister, is found in his office stabbed and beaten. Murdoch has just made detective, and murder isn't a normal occurrence. Naturally it seems obvious to everyone, including Murdoch's boss, that the murderer is one of the "tramps" in town. But there is more to this mystery than meets the eye, and Murdoch tries to sift through various motives. Could the murderer have been a spurned spinster? Could the "Traveler" have stooped to murder? How about someone desperate for food who was refused by Howard in his role as a "Visitor?" All Murdoch has to go on is the fact that Howard's boots and watch were stolen and that the crime was one of passion:

"'You'd say a thief then, would you, detective?" asked Royce. 'That or somebody wants us to think so." Mr. Lyons indicated he had a question. "Dr. Ogden in her excellent testimony has told us that there is every indication that the assailant was in a mad fury. I wonder then, if a person in such a state would have the presence of mind to deliberately mislead the police. I beg your pardon, Mr. Murdoch, I have no wish to cast aspersions on your competence.'"

There is something about Canadian mysteries that promises a slow but steady character and plot development that culminates in a neat package. Maureen Jennings is no exception. This is a period mystery, and Jennings has evidently done her research. We are transported back into the world of Victorian Canada in this case, where women stayed at home with their bodices and meek subservience to their husbands. Jennings creates a murky scenario with stand out characters and a whodunit that is as elusive as Murdoch's killer. A big thumbs up!

This wonderfully moving book is especially good! When I read the first few pages, I could literally feel the movie version of the poems playing in my mind, and it looked so interesting. It reminds me of Keats, he, too, was very good at making his readers envision his work. In fact, not since Keats have I read something that made me visualize a poem in any sort of complex way...until now. A great book that I highly recommend.

There was a time when commoners are never allowed to love those belonging to the nobility, that is not true anymore. There was a time when blacks were not allowed to drink from the fountains of whites, that too is not as true anymore. There was a time when the bravest of soldiers were bonded with another soldier and pledge to stand side by side in battle until death. While the poetry and porse in this exceptional book delves into hope for acceptability or tolerance it sidestepped the real issue IT IS A RIGHT, you would not ask anyone to give it to you what is really yours. I love it how the author says that.

This book is so very important! If you are interested in what gods messengers have to say then you have to get this book! When I realized that my prayers were not answered because I lacked patience, this hit me like a rock, I cried. I'm crying and trying to cut it, but I can't stop. I got hold of myself, and flew through the rest of the pages, not missing one word. It was a deep deep realization of self truth.
I, like so many others, want their prayers answered right away, and when they aren't we may become discouraged, depressed, and give up. I have been doing that all of my life!
Why would someone take you seriously when you give up, forget about it, or get angry because you didn't get the results right away. Then when you do get the results, you are too blind to see what is right in front of your face.

Like the author points out, lack of patience is a lack of faith, lack of faith is a lack of trust, lack of trust...and so on, you must read the book for the rest because this book is so very important! Lack of faith is a lack of Hope! I feel hopeless a lot. ANd when I do, I get depressed. This book straghtened me out. Thank goodness Jim Stewart has a radio talk show to get his message out. If you have questions about life, you have to read this book! I feel that I was lead here by the Angels. As I was reading the page on Pay The Beggar, I was thinking of the time I payed a beggar, and my husband got angry, and said "he is a scammer Jeanette!" I didn't care and gave him some money, and he said, "God Bless You!" I was stunned at those words at the time for i was in the mindset that it was a test, and good karma, and I felt that this was deeper than anyone could see with their eyes alone. So I am reading the story in the book thinking of my experience, and I read, "I gave the money to the beggar, and he said, "God Bless You!" what? wow! and then he goes on to write about when he was walking his dog Bubba, "my dog was Bubba!" Was it coincidental, or is everything done for a reason?

I was showing my neighbor the books I had for her to pick something she wanted to read, and came across the book The Lost Books of The Bible. I haven't thought about that book in a while, then later that evening while reading this book the author says he was reading The Lost Books of the Bible, I was like what? okay. And he also mentioned reading, The Book of Mormon, which I have read some of also. And I remember the young Mormons coming to my house, and they showed me a picture of Jesus, the author also mentioned this picture of Jesus in his book. :)
I found this book becasue of something the author wrote about his dog Bubba, I wrote him, and told him about my dog Bubba, who is deceased as is Jims dog Bubba. So while reading his bio I see his book, and thought it sounded interesting. He sounded interesting, special you know? I am just sorry I didn't buy the signed copy, which I didn't see until after I bought the used copy. I will buy the signed copy though, and give the other book to my neighbor, whose name is Mary. :)
The whole thing makes me wonder if it could possibly be that the angels guided me toward this book? Because the message I got was so loud and clear as to what I was doing with my prayers. I think it is so. I hope Jim Stewart writes more about his talks with the angels even though this book may be all we need to know. I am l going to tell as many people as I can about it.

This book should be read by every single person on the planet. It is that important!
