I found this book to be very insightful and thought-provoking. I would recommend this book to anyone due to its cross-discipline penning.

Are your interested in the issue of relating science and religion, but do you have a hard time finding your way in the complex material? Then this is definitely the book for you! I already loved the first edition, but the second, revised and expanded edition, will be a classic...

Summarizing this book is simply impossible, because this is not a monograph on a particular subject, but a text book aiming at giving a broad overview of the field and providing the necessary instruments for further study. The book deals not only with matters of method (e.g. modelf of relating science and religion) and history (e.g. historical examples of tensions between science and theology), but also extensively with theory. The new physics (Newtonian physics, cosmology, anthropic principles), evolutionary biology (Darwinism, human evolution, reductionism), psychology, ecology, science and education, religious diversity, tecnology, and biotechnology are dealt with in detail. Also divine action is given a fairly thorough treatment.

All in all, this book covers most of the contemporary field of science and theology. Having studied this book, you should be able to find your way in science & theology. Truly excellent!

Having had the privilege of studying the course behind this publication first-hand at Exeter, I would recommend the book to any student who seeks a thorough and well-rounded survey of the contemporary debate between science and religion.

Or is it a debate? The authors posit several models of dialogue between these two - usually separated - spheres, and this forms a core feature of this textbook: the opportunity to explore ways in which the two complement and enrich one another.

Therefore as well as being competently yet simply introduced to complex scientific questions (the Big Bang, the origin of life, quantum theory - to name a few), the author allows scope for the reader to see - for himself, and through the eyes of great thinkers, more and less famous - how it is possible to construct a working hypothesis of the inter-relation between God, humanity and the cosmos.

In the later chapters, which are a particularly unique and enjoyable section, we are introduced to the scientifically-influenced theologies of Jay McDaniel's "pelican heaven", Sallie McFague's "embodied God" and Ruth Page's "Web of Life". The reader can enjoy these models, whilst exercising a critical eye, sensitive to the scientific perceptions and phenomena so effectively outlined towards the beginning of the book.

On top of this, other views are outlined, including a section on Islamic theology and creation.

This is a great book for students and all those interested in understanding more of the world about them. It is refreshing to find a theology book which is so world-affirming, without resorting to religious dogmatism: not just a dry textbook, but a competent handbook AND a "choose you own adventure!"

This book was given to me as a gift, and I must say that I cherish it not only because it came from a special person, but because it is absolutely magical. There is a diversity of the goddesses given press in this book, as well as the mediums...poetry and prose. This is in no way a dictionary of goddesses or an in-depth study of them, however, it is quite a tribute. I would recommend this book to anyone into Goddess worship, divinity or art....it's fine pages, beautiful cover and content make it worth the price.

I have been coveting this book for a few years when it first came out. The artwork is lovely and each goddess image is accompanied by information about the goddess - a poem or short history. I would recommend this book to art-lovers, goddess- lovers and people interested in Wicca. The book covers many different pantheons.

I picked this up on a whim and am absolutely ecstatic that I did. Not only is the artwork varied and beautiful, but the (albiet shortened) myths are nicely told. As the book itself points out, there is the idea that a particular myth will spark something in you and make you research it further. Don't expect to use this as a reference manual, the myths are too shortened for that, but as a general overview it's great, and beautifully done to boot.

Another nice bonus is the quality of the book itself. The pages are thick, the binding is well done, and even the "paper" cover is pretty sturdy - a pet peeve of mine is wimpy throwaway paper covers on hardbacks. This book will survive the many readings which it will certainally experience on my shelves. And at the outlet price...absolutely worth every penny!!

Green As a Garden Hose is another sweet mystery which takes place in the town of Martinsville, Georgia. In the same subgenre of small town whodunits as The Cat Who mysteries, the mystery itself takes a backseat to the interplay of continuing characters and new denizens of Martinsville that are introduced to us in this third book in the series. Biscuit McKee and her cat Marmalade, who speaks in italics, are attractive characters that we care about as they get caught up in the mystery of who killed Diane Marie. I found the plot device of having the unlikely fact of three women named Diane Marie in such a small town more than a bit unlikely, but I liked the back-and-forth chronology that the author uses in each of the books in this series. Especially useful is the list of characters and the map of the town of Martinsville that is provided in the book, and I often refer to these pages as new characters are mentioned. If you like to immerse yourself in the lives of a familiar group of characters in a setting that is more like Leave It to Beaver than The Untouchables, you will really enjoy this series by Fran Stewart.

Putting three women with the same name in a small town at one time may sound quirky, but Stewart manages to make it work. The eerie proposition of three husbands who could quite possibly be willing to commit murder kept me guessing until near the end. Marmalade, the library cat, manages to save the day and still stay a completely believable feline throughout the book.
I'd say this one is a definite to put on your reading list, even if you're not a cat person.
And don't forget to read the other colors in the series, too. Fran Stewart is a winner.

Fran Stewart does it again. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but each of her "Rainbow" series delights and entertains. I was introduced to her novels recently, and they've simply charmed my socks off. Or if I were wearing socks, they would. As far as what I think of the series as a whole?

Fran Stewart has created a thoroughly endearing character in Biscuit McKee--fallible enough to be undeniably human and feisty enough to be thoroughly lovable. Biscuit wants nothing more than to live quietly in the small Georgia town of Martinsville with her husband and her Marmalade cat, but fate and family don't always cooperate. Biscuit faces each challenge life throws at her--and there are plenty of those--with determination and a little help from her cat.

Fran Stewart's Biscuit McKee stories are beautifully written, incorporating a blend of down-home wisdom and humor guaranteed to both charm and entertain.

Many of the illuminations in this text are also in The Golden Haggadah - refer to the latter for the art history and criticism related to the illuminations.

This volume is a traditional Haggadah in Hebrew and English with illuminations from Medieval texts in the British Library. The result is a splendid, visually appealing book. The illuminations run from vines running down the margins of the page, to elaborate Hebrew letters, folk illustrations, and icon-like depictions of Biblical scenes. Here and there a bit of commentary on the contents of the ritual is included. It is clear that the hope of the authors that the Haggadah be not only a beautiful book on your shelf but also be used as a beautiful book in the celebration of Passover.

This is a beautifully illustrated hagadah with rare images. The text is very easy to follow and the commentary is very helpful and insightful.

The Haggadah is beautiful and the text is authentic and easy to follow. It is not only an art book, it is a practical and useful haggadah for use during the seder. It brings Pesach to life and connects us to our history.

I bought a copy of this book when it was first published, and still use many of the recipes. Some are elegant - fancy food for a dinner party, while others are what you want when you come home from work on a weeknight. Most are easy to make.

The photographs are terrific, so you stay inspired.

Incredible taste sensations. The soups are amazing due mainly to the delectable Veg. Soup Stock that listed on page 45. The French onion soup and the Leek and pea soup with mint are astounding. The photographs elegantly frame each dish and just inspire you to try it yourself.

I would have bought the book for its photos alone. Now, I wonder what could have inspired that photographer, hmmm? I prepared a couple of the recipes and they were great successes, and then gave the book away thinking I could get another one for myself, but alas, it is out of print! Now, all I can do is covet my friend's copy. Bummer.

I read this book in a university ethics class, and I enjoyed it very much. What I liked best was that it is not just a textbook with charts, graphs, and information; it is a collection of inspiring stories that communicate the importance of ethics and character in leadership. This book also gives insight on how people can develop the character traits necessary to become more inspirational leaders.

This book is outstanding as a leadership tool as well as excellent reading for every person. It will definitely inspire every reader to reflect on their own ethic concepts.

I used this book for one of my packaging class in RIT. The language of the content makes this book very easy to read and understand. There are also helpful diagrams to better illustrate some of the important points. Important key terms are repeated on the side, which really helps when studying for an exam. The book covers a wide variety aspect of international logistics. It is a great book to understand the basics in logistic business; it is definitely worth your time and money.

Actually,I have read this book once when i studied in U.S.A. 2 years ago. I've found myself understand clearfully when i am in the field especailly INCOTERM. This book is an easiest textbook, I have ever read. Information,Picture, chart, figures are up-to-date and useful. Great book i can tell!!!

The content of this book is based on the material that I use in a graduate course in International Logistics that I started teaching twenty years ago and which I still teach every semester. The material has benefited from the feedback of hundreds of students, most of whom were professionals engaged in international business, either in international logistics or in a related field. Although the textbook is mostly written from a US perspective, I included many examples that are based outside of North America.

I wrote this book with the idea that its content should be useful to the users of international logistics services. I focused on making it relevant to managers who are involved in international supply chain activities and export or import goods: all of the relevant concepts are thoroughly explained, including Incoterms, documentation, international banking, international insurance, exchange rate exposure, Customs clearance, agency and distributorship sales contracts, packaging and overseas shipping. This perspective is in contrast with the majority of the material found in international transportation and logistics, which tends to focus on the perspective of the carrier [carrier operations, rate setting, hull insurance, for example]. Not that there is anything wrong with that perspective, but it is not what I set to accomplish.

I strived to make the book accessible to the reader: I took great care in making sure that all of the concepts were clearly and accurately portrayed without "simplifying" them in any way to make the reader's task easier, and I spent a lot of time to make sure that the vocabulary was precise and accurate, a perspective that I gained from years of teaching non-native speakers of English. Among what my students and people who attended my seminars have told me, it is the fact that the book is easy to read that they appreciated the most.

I also paid a lot of attention to the order in which the material was introduced, so that the approach was logical and so that the reader could understand a concept without having to refer to material that was presented later in the book. Given the interdependence of international logistics topics, this was a challenging undertaking, but I think I managed to achieve that goal. Nevertheless, I would strongly advise the interested reader to read the book once "quickly," before getting into some of its details.

Since the book introduces a number of topics that tend to be technical and are unfamiliar to many readers, I included more than seventy illustrations, tables and figures in the text supporting the concepts presented. All were chosen carefully to make sure they depicted accurately the concepts presented in the text: I used my own photographs, but I also have to thank more than twenty professional and amateur photographers who let me borrow their work.

Finally, the book has received strong academic support and has been adopted by most of the university logistics programs in the United States. It is also the reference textbook for the Certification in Transportation and Logistics offered by the American Society of Transportation and Logistics.

A must for any police officer! Great resource and who knew that even time of year could affect the outcome of your interview? But this book explains why and how to avoid those pitfalls!

After carefully shopping around online, I purchased this college book brand new from Amazon and not only did I get it in 2 weeks, I also saved money. My college offers the book (used) only dollars less so why not purchase a new one from here!

The book was what I needed for class. I found it to be cheaper at Amazon than any of the other places I looked, and it arrived right away.

Until I read this book, I thought, for example, that buying free-range chickens protected my family from environmental toxins. Wow, was I wrong. This book really woke me up to the toxins in the air, water and food, and to the fact that free-range chickens still eat food and drink water that may contain toxins. I had the same realization with wild fish--they still eat smaller fish, all of whom eat food and drink water that likely contains toxins. Dr. Lonky, one of the co-authors, is a specialist in treating Chernobyl-type patients, and the best part of the book, I felt, was the second half, which offers some solutions for each of us in the short term, until our governments grasp the enormity of the problem and do something to stop the ongoing pollution of our air, water and food.

This book is excellent! I came away much more aware of my personal environment and how I can rid myself and my family of harmful toxins I hadn't even thought about. Cudoos to these two intellectuals and their treatise and truth about this very alarming arena. A must read!

I found this book to be a good source of information about the toxins that we face everyday in our homes and the environment. It provides an excellent reference to information about these toxins and what we can do to protect our health...I give it an A+++

Just help me to find an original of this book. I'm searching for it since 1994 and still haven't found one. I think this says enough for a graphic designer that simply loves the style of DDB and the Volkswagen ads.

For an excellent alternative to "Is the Bug Dead" (which is, unfortunately, out of print), you can check out "Remember those great Volkswagen ads?", published November 2000 and still in print in the UK - check out [...]. It charts the history of the Beetle advertising and has an additional chapter on the New Beetle. It is a beautiful, fully illustrated book and a fantastic read for Beetle enthusiasts and those in advertising alike.
