This is a beautiful little book. I enjoyed reading Ms. Rubin's text just as much as the photos. It reads more like a novel than a bio. including little known facts and personal interviews of his family and friends. She makes a point to illustrate the early influences of Steven's family and school life that later became themes for his movies. It is a very intimate look into Speilburg's personal and professional journey. Ms. Rubin has included many formerly unpublished photos. It all adds up to a wonderful read and certainly a lovely addition to your library, especially if you are a fan of Spielberg's work.

This is a pretty good decent sized book about both Spielberg's life growing up and his most successful movies such as Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Jurrasic Park and Saving Private Ryan to name a few. There are some great colour photographs from the movies along with a lot of information. If you like the films he has done or are interested in his life then this would have to be one of the best books out there on that subject.

A Beautiful Quality Book.

Great book for the 9-14 age group or anyone older looking for a light read. Lots and lots of interesting pictures of Spieberg's childhood, early career and blockbuster movies and behind-the-scene production. Well written and a high quality book.

I borrowed this book two times from the library at school.
I read it last night. I just have it for one week.
It's a cool book.
Steven got a camera and he filmed tons of movies on it.
And it talks about all the movies he directed.
He then became a famous director after all that stuff
i just said.
So,now,please buy this book!

The book is astonishing as I would have love to meet him in person. I have been always fascinated with Spielbergs movies and he has shown me great courage and great technical skills in which he is my number one idol because the movies such as ET and CE32 taught me how to film when I was 6 yrs old. So I could only wish to see him someday.

Thank you

I orginally bought a copy of this book for my eldest son in 1997 on a visit home to Vancouver Island. My younger son, aged 3, discovered it in the bookshelf and absolutely loves this story and wants to read it nearly every night. It has all the elements of a great children's storybook - the illustrations are lush and vibrant, with great attention to historical, cultural and artistic detail. The story is simple, with minimal text - half of the story is alluded to via the illustrations. The boy accidentally finds himself in a parallel supernatural undersea world, and eventually returns to his own village bringing spiritual gifts to his people. I will definately be buying a copy of Frog Girl. More please...

A classic, beautiful book

People will be framing the artwork from this book fifty years from now. And it's one of my son's favorite books. Great for reading aloud, one of the books you keep reaching for. A classic story, well told and beautifully rendered with images that are faithful to the actual traditions and styles of the Haida and Tlingit people. So it's not just "mind candy" -- it's an introduction to a culture.

I simply fell in love with the artwork and its young hero.

Paul O. Lewis does a great service to children by using a scholarly approach to his young hero. Giving us not only rich and evocative artwork but portraying the ancient tale of the mythic hero with fresh and innocent eyes is a wonderful gift. Readers seeking the beauty of a children's book that provides an uplifting experience and faithful cultural feeling will fall in love with this book just as I have. -V.S.

I read these books years ago, in second or third grade, and loved them. I forgot them for a bit, and just remembered them a day or so ago. I didn't realize it when I first read them, but these books have stuck with me since then, and now I've realized how amazing they were. I know that I sound stupid and gushing, but really- read them! Great for animal lovers, or those (like myself) who weren't animal lovers but liked touching stories- reading these books has been a huge influence on my opinion towards animals today!

This book is the best with the courage of a young girl finally unleashing itself. This story will keep you reading, except for when you stop to ask you parents about some of the great vocabulary. I hope you will try this exciting book where you can't decide what side is correct untill the truth will be illuminated in the end.

This neat little novel is written in the tradition of Tom Sawyer, though it appeared 5 years earlier than Twain's classic. It's about all the mischief, chivalry, loyalty, and pluck of a young boy's life. Aldrich is in love with his material and revels in all the antics his characters get involved in. The snowball fight is a gem. The boyhood dialogue is excellent and rings true.

a must-read for Tom Sawyer fans!

The Story of a Bad Boy is one of my favorite books. It's interesting, humorous, and touching, and gives you an inside look at the life of a boy in Massachusetts in the early 1800s. I love the author's style of writing. It seems to make the story all the more humorous, and brings you back to those olden days. I also love this book because it's a true story, and this kid led a life full of adventures and mishaps. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Tom Sawyer because these two books are similar, and the two boys have the same type of mischievous personalities. Yet in spite of similarities, Bad Boy is unique because it's true.

Adventures and tribulations of a mischieveuos boy.

This book has been very informative for both my 6th grade and my college-aged ESL students. It brings to life one of the most inventive and creative personalities in American history. He is presented in a very positive way, making him a role model that can be an example to younger and older people alike. This book is written in language that is easily understood by young or foreign readers. While it uses vocabulary that stretches the limits of a young person's ability, it also gives explantion for difficult passages. It gives thoughtful insight into American history preceding the Revolutionary War and the reasons for the War.

This is a book of high interest to my 5th and 6th grade students. Benjamin Franklin came alive on the pages of this book, and even inspired one young man to do further research into the life of this truly amazing American. The language is simple and straight forward making comprehenshion possible even for my students who are struggling with a very limited knowledge of the English language. I believe that this book is not only appropriate for children, but also an enjoyable reading experience for adults that are reading along with their children, or adults who are building their own reading skills. It never "talks down" to the reader. The world is hungry for heroes, and leaders who live and teach old-fashioned virtues. This book meets this need in an entertaining way.

"StrADegy" presents the clearest view of the digital transformation and what it means to the advertising industry. The changes that are underway and the impact these changes will have on the way we consume media are clearly outlined. More than one man's opinion, it contains deeply researched relevant points of view from leading thinkers, both past and present. The fundamental concepts of consumer empowerment, the independence of advertising from program content and the reality of highly targeted messages are already taking root and the logical course is forcefully presented. This book is easy and enjoyable to read, but the transformation that is outlined will be anything but easy and enjoyable for the advertising industry. A must read for anyone working in the media or advertising industries.

A welcomed premonition from an obvious futurist.

Steve clearly describes how digital transformations pose a threat and an advantage to those in the advertisement industry. The shift in legacy advertising specifically narrowcasting/pointcasting, converging technologies, diverse distributed ad sources, interactivity, ad avoidance, and the increasing multitude of rendering mediums that present audio, video, text, and interactive ad content will present technological, methodological, logistical and financial surprises that you need to be aware of. Currently, players in the ad industry are begrudgingly active participants in this transformation. So read the book carefully and decide whether you want to have an advantage or simply be a casualty.

I read this book twice, an awesome book for environmental engineers especially if you are studying Mixing Pollutant in Aquatic Systems.
You need to have some basic knowledge in environmental hydraulic to get the most benefit from this book, although this book reviews them all at the beginning.

An excellent text for self-study

This is a great book. In fact, it is the best book if like me, you don't have time to follow a teacher-led course. Stephen Chapra has authored/co-authored several engineering texts, and this one is just as well-written as the others. My need was for a text which had the right balance of theory and practical implementation details. Since I develop water-quality & hydrodynamics software, I also was concerned with numerical methods issues. This book met my needs. Chapra has a very enjoyable style. I like his sometimes 'anecdotal' style, whereby he gives you historical or background blurbs which help view things in their proper context.

** One of the rare qualities of Chapra's books is to provide both the mathematical modeling theory, and the practical sampling and statistical tools to implement them with real data. This is so often overlooked by other authors.

I look forward to his next book on numerical methods with Matlab & Excel.

I found this book to be extremely useful. It covers the necessary issues of surface water modeling, such as reaction kinetics, mixed vs non-mixed systems, a variety of possible contaminants and indicators, as well as a variety of surface water body types. Each part of the book is a series of lectures containing theory as well as practical modeling methods. The text is clear and flows well, with occasional comical examples and literary quotes.

I actually stumbled across a sample chapter from this book on the author's web page while I was searching the web for something else entirely. I glanced at it, started to read it, finished the chapter, and found I was hooked. I had to buy the book. I wasn't disappointed. Money well spent! I'm looking forward to reading more of this author's work in the future.

First Rate Science Fiction

"Taken Liberty" is the impressive and thoroughly enjoyable first novel by author Steve Wilson. In a style reminiscent of early Heinlein, it blends technology and characterization in a fascinating story that tackles such diverse themes as sexuality, spirituality, genetic manipulation, slavery and bigotry in a novel with characters it's a pleasure to get to know.

The central protagonist, a girl barely out of her teens, was raised as a sexual predator and pleasure slave on a planet where such practices are allowed and which are overlooked by the more enlightened races in the galaxy. She managed to escape, joined the intergalactic navy, and has risen to a position of authority on the fleet's flagship, Titan. When her past is uncovered, she and her friends and the ship's captain must prevent her from being returned to her homeworld and captivity. The characters are richly drawn and finely developed and include a not-so-androgynous telepath, a much-maligned Terran, and a Wiccan doctor who heals the soul as well as the body.

While this is a first novel, the author is no "stranger in a strange land." He is the latest product from that great training school of fan fiction, and he has also written about 13 radio plays which feature the same set of characters put forth in this novel. Some of the plays have been recorded on CD (available from the author) or performed as podcasts or at conventions as productions of Prometheus Radio Theatre. Familiarity with the earlier works is not essential, however, to enoying this novel.

While many of the characters are young, this is definitely not a book for children. The writing is sexually explicit and the themes are mature and profound. It's an admixture of social commentary, philosphy, and technology, which is what all good science fiction should be.

I look forward to more from this author, and predict that he has a bright future

A gripping read....

The first novel in what I hope will be an ongoing series, Steve Wilson has taken the characters from his successful audio theatre series "The Arbiter Chronicles" and given us some of
the background story we've craved. You will not be able to
put the book down - especially during Aer'la backstory.
I highly recommend "Taken Liberty..." and want more!

They keep the same characters for the whole series and so kids can get attached to them. We will be in big trouble when we reach Z.
