This is the best reference book out there. The authors taught me all I ever needed to know in respiratory care and I've been a therapist and respiratory care educator for 25 years. The book is in outline form and will give you information and the facts.... It doesn't read like a novel, but you will have all of the facts you may ever need. Highly recommended. Many respiratory care instructors will hide this text from students because it doesn't give long and detailed explanations on topics. If you are a student looking for a great book you won't sell back, buy this bok. This book will be a one stop shop to study for your exams and the NBRC exams. If you are a therapist looking for one reference book---- this is it!!!!

Absolutely Invaluable Book!

"The Essentials of Respiratory Care" book is one heck of a book! I have used it for many years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Now, I am entering my 3rd year of medical school- I still use this book VERY OFTEN as a reference! The outline format is very convenient and very thorough. My only complaint is that the authors have not seen fit to publish a NEW edition! To my knowledge, the most recent edition is 1990. :-(

Keep this book on hand at work

This reference work is as dry as they come; it's also as complete and inclusive as they come. You won't find any illuminating discussions of respiratory techniques or patient management concepts here. The entire book is written in outline form -- definitely "just the facts, ma'am". You won't be tempted to stay up late reading this one for entertainment. So if you are a student, especially if you have not yet begun your clinicals, you don't absolutely need this book --- YET.

But as soon as you DO make your first appearance in a clinical setting (even as a student), make sure you always have the most current edition of this book on hand -- and keep it in your locker, or your colleagues will walk off with it. This exhaustively comprehensive reference will recall for you every little detail of a procedure or concept, all the ones that are right on the tip of your braincell and you can't quite remember them exactly. If you encounter material in the book that is gibberish to you (and you will), you can consult the equally exhaustive bibliography for citations to works that will provide you with more detailed explanations.

Think of this book as the ultimate Google for all things RT.

This textbook has put me through my two years of respiratory therapy classes. I found it in the library and have been using it ever since to study with. It is to the point and well written. I like it so much that I plan on buying it for clinical year. I am hoping that the author decides to publish a newer edition soon though. This book covers everything you will EVER be tested on. Definetly, good to have!

I was looking for books to enhance my Lenten journey this year and I was blessed beyond belief to have "stumbled" across this most beautiful book. It drew me into deep worship with the Lord and such a greater appreciation for the importance of this time of year when we remember Christ's journey to the Cross to pay the debt for the sins of the world. I am very grateful to have discovered this masterpiece and will share it with many.

I have enjoyed the depth with which Steven has written about his Lenten journey. I appreciate all the people of faith that he has drawn from. He is well read, and the book shows that he not only is, but has done his own searching and finding in his relationship with Christ. I am looking forward to following the book through Lent and expect it to draw me to Who is important, Jesus Christ.

This beautifully crafted book, which deserves to be savored reverently, is much more than a perceptive Lenten journal. Purcell's hand lettered text and exquisite watercolors are complemented by sensitive selections from spiritual, literary, and artistic masters, all handsomely presented in full color and spacious layout. In the author's words, this is about "following Christ and--in that journey of faith--discovering the truth about ourselves and the largeness of God's love." It is a book to which the reader will want to return again and again in order to more deeply appreciate its treasures. Lenora Black, OSB

David's concise suggestions for healthy, peaceful living are necessary for each of us living on this often-complicated planet. Everyday Serenity is easy to read, quick to digest and provides a top-notch reference book for each day, during the times I need some clarity and a bit of humor...it's a book that I'll refer to for a long time to come. Thank you David for this lovely, helpful book!

'How are you today, Mom?" "I'm fine, if you overlook a few things." --a conversation between author David Kundtz and his mother. What wise advice! As David Kundtz points out in his book Everyday Serenity, each of us is presented daily with challenges we can do nothing about. We can choose to obsess on these or ignore them and move on. What do you need to ignore today? (description from M.J. Ryan who wrote The Happiness Makeover)

For those seeking a greater understanding of life!

Everyday Serenity: Meditations For People Who Do Too Much, is the latest offering from David J. Kundtz, a psychotherapist, author, and speaker. Dr. Kundtz is an advocate of Stopping, "which is doing nothing--for as briefly as a minute or for as long as a month--for the purpose of becoming more fully awake and remembering who you are." People today are starved for time to themselves. Their days are filled with so many things that have to be done that they have no time for solitude or reflection. Dr. Kundtz's meditations are intended to help people turn those little moments between activities into "stillpoints," where there is no guilt or pressure, where the focus is on just quietly and peacefully being. Those who are able to make such moments for themselves will find that they enjoy life more, and have more energy to do the other things they need to do. Dr. Kundtz divided the book into fourteen chapters, with titles like "Making Room for Life" and "Finding Your Balance." Each chapter is filled with relevant meditations. Finding Your Balance, for example, includes "A Walk Down The Street" and "It Just Is." All the meditations begin with a quote--some from philosophers like Socrates, and some from contemporary sources, like Woody Allen. Dr. Kundtz then offers a quiet "reflection" on the quote, and ends with a suggestion of how the reader might apply it to his or her own life. His reflection on "It Just Is" ends with "today quietly observe what keeps you from going with the flow." Everyday Serenity includes a meditation for each day of the year. Each is designed to serve as an opportunity to "pause for a purpose, to draw you to a moment of both rest and insight." Readers who use them will find themselves "becoming more awake and intentional" with a greater understanding of what they truly want from life and how to get it.

Great quotes offered inspiration. Great research provided the motivation. Don't be fooled that the 1-1/2 page snapshots of a variety of topics from finding peace and balance in your life to receiving permission to stop aren't deep enough. Each word, each question posed in the fourteen chapters address key issues of life and I must have tabbed ten pages for later reference.

As part of a writer's group, I introduced the others to David Kundtz's words of wisdom and encouragement. I know two went and bought his book the next day.

Thanks for reminder in the (adapted) traditional saying: 'All work and no play make Jack and Jill dull kids.' I have to go mountain bike now, and yes, it's the middle of the workday :-)

This book is a great overview of the paralegal field. It briefly covers every aspect of being a paralegal. This would be a great book to read if you are considering becoming a paralegal but aren't sure if it's the right career for you. I have completed a degree in paralegal studies and found this book to be a great review of all the areas I have studied. I'm sure it will be a handy reminder for those areas of paralegal practice that I don't use on a regular basis. I recommend it to everyone from beginning paralegals to those with years of experience. The author has done a great job of writing in a manner that keeps everything simple enough for anyone to understand but detailed enough to be of use to anyone involved in the paralegal field.

As someone who earned a paralegal certification at WOLI (Washington Online Learning Institute), a 100% online school, I was very pleased to have this book recommended by my career counselor at WOLI. I found this book to be full of useful information about the paralegal profession, the importance of credentials and most importantly what potential employers such as law firms and corporations expect from persons such as myself. I understand that many WOLI students are using this book and I am pleased to recommend it.

I felt that the book was appropriate about Spielberg's enormous contribution to the film industry over his career. The book has wonderful pictures and stories about each film from the first film, The Sugerland Express, to Saving Private Ryan with E.T. The Extra Terrestial, the Indiana Jones trilogy, and Schindler's List among the films listed here. This book chronologizes Spielberg's film-making techniques as well the special and visual effects. I am not one of his biggest fans. I admire his work and contributions to the film industry but I prefer more than the special and visual effects. There are other film-makers and directors out there that do less with more.

If you want a good read about cinema's most amazing director, then this is the book for you. It contains lots of really great insight not just on shooting the movie, but how it even started. Though author Douglas Brode tends to get a little too political, it is a really good book that I keep coming back to. Read at all costs.

This book is a great read for the major films of Spielberg. It is done with a great deal of research by the author, who puts together a very good story line of the producer/director and how he and his films progressed over time. The author also provides excellent background information on the films, from both a technical point of view and also the creative story line. The text layout, photos, and great front and back cover photos are there to flesh out the films. It is also a fun book to read. All put together, this is a very good book to understand Spielberg, his movies, his life, and his impact on very successful creative and commercial 20th century movies.

This is a totally awesome book...is what my son said after he read it. And then I read it and I agree! I love Mr. Cousins writing and I wish he would write more! The wonderful detail and use of actual science in this imaginative treasure is astounding! The issue of bullying in this book is sensitively portrayed and also dealt with humor and insight. I think this should be required reading in all schools. It brought up topics around the dinner table for discussion from bugs to treating others with respect and usually back to bugs again. Boys are like that.

Frankenbug by Steven Cousins

Review Date: 2002-11-17
Unlike the other kids in his fifth grade class, Adam Cricklestein lives in his own little world of bugs and insects from all over the world. Adam is the first to admit that he is a little bit weird, but this hobby is just innocent fun that doesn't hurt anyone else. But because Jeb McCallister, the sixth grade bully, enjoys torturing Adam and his bugs every chance he gets, Adam is forced to 'create' a bug to protect him from his nemesis. Frankenbug is not only entertaining, but also extremely educational in a conspicuous way that will spark the scientific interests in young readers. Steven Cousins definitely did his homework before writing this book in order to obtain the countless facts about many rare types of 'bugs'. For example, his description of the male and female lightening bug's photinus carolinus (flash pattern used when mating) that Adam used to bring Frankenbug to life was precisely informative. The story line is also set up well, with the reader pulling for Adam (and Frankenbug) to come out ahead of Jeb right down to the very end. This culminates with Jeb's bullying being exposed and Frankenbug being released to live out his life with Adam in his zoo-like bedroom. The only drawback to this book was the lack of depth given to many of the characters. Because Adam was portrayed as the class nerd, children will be reluctant to identify with his character. The introduction of a classmate who was a true-blue type friend to Adam, in spite of his strange hobby, may have been useful to draw in a larger audience. Overall, this is an informative, educational, and entertaining book that many children should enjoy.

Frankenbug is a great book!

Frankenbug is a really great book that tells the story of a boy who creates a monster bug after seeing the movie Frankenstein. Also mixed into the exciting story are hilarious jokes and good facts about bugs. This is also very realistic because it is told in a real 11 year old boy's voice and is not that complicated. I think that this is a VERY good book and you shouldn't miss out on it.

Being a photographer and collector, and just a big fan of that era of photography I enjoyed this book very much. First of all the styling of the book is excellant. The feel of the old photo album is very well done. I enjoyed the foreword and introduction also, it gives a lot of information about that era. Its ashame that such a big part of photography and art history remains such a mystery being it was considered "naugthy" back then. But this book does answer many questions. Not to mention the many many examples of the cards and photos themselves. I would recommend this book to add to your collection of french postcards and as an excellant reference.

Thanks

A beautifully designed book that I love holding in my hands. I am a photographer and bought this book for inspiration for boudoir and portraiture. The paper, quality of images, and design that went into this are all worth the time and price.
Although the pages are smaller than I'd like, it feels rather intimate as you browse (and most the images are full page)
A real artistry in the photographs, unlike many other books Ive purchased in this genre.
