The book is excelent reading but please get a different version.
This version only has 580 or so pages where as other versions have over 1,300 pages. That means that this version is only half the story.
So much gets lost in translation already don't cheat yourself even more.

Although the story is well known to me, the editing of this audio book was so confusing. I absolutely could not follow it. Too much is cut out.

Story has good twists, but there are too many French places and people which makes the audio confusing.

This book is long out of copyright and so is available free for your Kindle elsewhere on the net.

I bought this book to accompany a charcoal Weber grill for my husband last father's day. He mastered babyback ribs after one grilling, wowed my co-workers with the NC pulled pork on pg. 109, upstaged my traditional Thanksgiving turkey with his smoked bird with a mediterrean rub (pg 443). He has become the neighborhood smoking/grilling legend and we we already grill several times a week regardless on rain, sleet or snow.

The book is well organized, easy to understand, and the photos are great at showing techniques and the process of cooking several types of meats and so many vegies.
If you don't know how to start a grill or are stuck doing burgers you can thumb through this, try the simplier recipes/techniques, and work your way up to become a neighborhood legend too.

This book covers all the technique needed to barbecue, um, I mean grill you'll need (note: if you think the two words are interchangeable, they're not. Barbecue is low-`n'-slow; grill is hot-`n'-quick). Cook steaks, seafood, vegetables, and desserts. After reading this book, following some easy instructions, and practice you'll be the grill guru you've always wanted to be. The book also contains some very good recipes to demonstrate the techniques. It is a good buy.

This is an amazing book, makes a great gift for any barbeque-er -- the recipe for lamb chops is out of this world. The best part of this book is you can flip through it on a Saturday morning and visualize what dinner looks like because every recipe has a picture. It's super easy to follow and anyone can make a feast. This is my favorite cookbook by far.

We highly recommend this book!!! Every recipe we've tried has been a winner. We love the photographs and clear descriptions. The only problem is the binding on the paperback. It falls apart, especially for the avid griller's. My dad had his spiral bound to keep it together. I am sure the hardback copy would be better.

I have been reading nutrition books for over a decade. This book relates back to studies that are proven. It really boils down what the best foods are and why. The book recommends how to cook and eat these foods.

Best book I have read to date on nutrition for the lay person.

SuperFoods is a great leap in the right direction for anyone looking to improve his or her diet.

Positives: the format and suggestions are some of the best in the diet class. It's easy to follow, the suggestions are not too expensive, and the book includes a great deal of scientific explanations and references.

Negatives: the author suggests consuming beans, oats, soy, and dairy. These foods are generally beneficial for one's health, however after reading The Paleo Diet: Lose Weight and Get Healthy by Eating the Food You Were Designed to Eat by Dr. Cordain, I learned that human bodies are not properly engineered to consume such foods.

Conclusion: this book is a tremendous foundational guide to proper nutrition. For those who want to take it to the next level, I would recommend The Paleo Diet instead.

I've been a vegetarian for 21 years and thought that I followed a balanced diet... well, this book opened my eyes. I loved it because it explains how each of the superfoods contributes to your health, the recipes are very easy to make and since I started putting it in practice, I feel a lot better and more energized :-) Great purchase !

This is an excellent book to help learn more about making beneficial food choices as part of a healthy lifestyle. It is not a fad diet or gimmick to lose weight fast. In addition to the 14 suggested "Super Foods," the author identifies "sidekicks" for each, which offer similar benefits. The author also provides recipes, offering guidance on how to prepare these foods using healthy cooking choices, too. (I've already tried a few and they're fabulous!) Finally, throughout the entire book the author supports his information with research-based evidence, with references, from peer-reviewed journals.

Although the focus is not on losing weight, when you take the advice of the author and begin to eat all of the foods necessary for a long, healthy life, you have little room left to eat the garbage that keeps on the extra pounds!

This is not just a book I recommend to friends and family - this is one I've already purchased several copies of for friends and family!

My doctor recently diagnosed me with diabetes in addition to my longstanding problem of high cholesterol and high triglycerides, which was also affecting my liver. I was quite overweight but didn't really care until that point - there's always tomorrow to lose it, right? He put me on a cholesterol and triglyceride lowering medicine and told me I needed to lose weight. This time I took him seriously, and I also read SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle. I started exercising (walking) and eating healthy by following these two books' recommendations. So far I've lost 31 pounds without feeling deprived or going on some weird diet. I feel great, my diabetes is well controlled, and my cholesterol, triglycerides and liver function are in terrific shape now. The Super Foods have found a permanent place in my diet, and exercise a permanent place in my lifestyle. Thanks to these two books I believe I've saved my life and will enjoy better health over the long term. I've sent them to my brother to help him make the changes he needs for the same reasons. I highly recommend SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle!

This book is excellent, describing how to light a variety of common but tricky situations. It discusses all of the necessary physics in non-technical detail and in that way is a good practical accompaniment to technical physics texts such as Principles of Optics: Electromagnetic Theory of Propagation, Interference and Diffraction of Light (7th Edition) and Optics (4th Edition). I highly recommend it for those interested in doing photographic lighting as well as those trying to understand the physics of light.

This book is the basic text for how light works. It will introduce you to the behavior of light and the work of handling various surfaces, including what makes good portrait lighting. If you're into product photography, handling glass and metal is in there. If you're just interested in people, everything you need to know is here. Unless you're already in college for photography and are getting a solid grounding in all the technical (physics) aspects of photographic lighting, buy this book and be "enlightened".

Loads of information / explanations. A little bit of physics but only that necessary. Details how light works, how to photograph glass and metal, and much more. One of my favourite photography books, and so far the ONLY book (I've purchased around 20 photography related books from Amazon) I've been motivated to review on Amazon!

When I buy a Tec Book. I am happy if I get at least 1 really good chapter of info I can use. This book had many good chapters and I use it as a on going reference for my work. I recommend this book for anyone serious in improving their lighting techniques in the studio.

PS It's not filled with a lot of poor attempts at humor like some of the "Photoshop" technique books. You probably know who I am talking about...

Lighting is what photography ("light writing", in Greek) is all about, right? If you haven't mastered lighting, you're not taking photographs; you're making snapshots.

This book is a masterful guide to light in all its forms and uses. Read it to learn what you can really do with your camera. I recommend it highly.

This book is a great introduction to book publishing. The author really knows the back-end process of book publishing well and provides much insight for beginner and intermediate writers. Another good book to purchase would be: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting Published, 4th Edition. While Terry's book is great, the Complete Idiots guide touches on a few areas in addition. All in all Terry's book is a very good book and worth the money.

Terry Whalin's BOOK PROPOSALS THAT SELL gives aspiring writers a publishing insider's expertise while maintaining a true empathy for outsiders longing to crack the door to the publishing world. The author's longtime industry experience adds a huge portion of credence to his practical, information-packed tips.

The happy ending (and beginning) for my own story came when publishers accepted both nonfiction proposals I wrote using Terry's wise counsel. Thanks, Terry, for all you do to bring those on the outside successfully in!

Just finished reading BOOK PROPOSALS THAT SELL. This book is a MUST READ for anyone who feels called to write a book. You could have a great book already written, but if you don't know how to sell it to a publisher you've just wasted a lot of time and effort.

NOTE TO FIRST TIME WRITERS - this book is everything you didn't know you didn't know.

All considering this book should be aware that it is only for non fiction books. Something not made clear in the advertising, but is revealed by the author in the first page.

A friend recently gave me a copy of Book Proposals That Sell. I've read and own several others on the same topic but this book is much better than the others because of the style. It's so friendly and comfortable and, unlike some, doesn't feel like the author is a mighty and impressive expert deigning to help the humble reader, but simply a normal person offering a friendly hand to another.

The insider information about the publishing process is especially helpful.

My boys and I love this book. It starts a series that is hard to put down. Highly recommend it for young and old alike that like to escape into another world in their books.

My 12 year old daughter is not a big reader, but this story she read quickly and did not want to put down. When she takes a book to read in the car, you know it is good. She's not a big fantasy reader and doesn't like it when there are too many characters and story lines to keep straight, and truthfully, it took her a few starts to get going in this book, so I hope it is kind of a break through book. She is on the second book in the series now and reads it whenever she gets a chance, guess I should order that 3rd one too. I realize it isn't much of a review of the book, but it lets you know that if your kid isn't a big reader, one good book can make a difference.

I purchased the audio version for my husband who listens during his commute. This one was a hit because I would call him and he would say "I'm listening to the book. Can I call you back?" I've read all three books and they are wonderful. I plan on sharing the cd's with my 10 yr old next.

A die-hard Harry Potter fan, I am having to move on to new series... And I have found one in Fablehaven! Although they may be a little too dark for younger kids, I thoroughly enjoy them! And the third (which just came out in April)is even better than the last-- his writing, the characters, and the plot is getting better with time (much like my beloved HP's!!!).

This is a good book for children. It is very imaginative. I don't really know what to say because the comments already pretty much summed up everything. Kids will enjoy it especially the vivid descriptions.

But, I do have one problem with the writing skills. The entire book is full of dangling and misplaced modifiers. For example, "Pulling herself out of the water, Kendra grabbed a towel." Instead it should be written "Kendra pulled herself out of the water and grabbed a towel."

I had very bad neck pains due to stress. Doctors prescribed muscle relaxants, but after doing Chi Kung neck exercises and the exercises, I have finally found relief. I truly believe these Chi Kung exercises work. Even my doctor testified to these exercises.

I thought it was wonderful. So easy to understand and follow the movements; along with lovely personal ancedotes and helpful nutritional information in the text.

I usually don't write reviews about the books I bought, but I felt that I should do it about this one after reading the amazing review from the "avid reader".

I have the book, I have done the exercises, and from my experience, I can tell you that they work, very easilly. In fact, I felt to my surprise the movement of chi in my body, the first time I did the first exercise. What else can you want from a book that actually delivers what his writer promises?
I have the book and also the videos from the same author. In those you can hear several persons reporting the "miracle cures" that ocurred with them, that this "almost" costumer complains about.
You know that is something that puzzles me: how can a person criticize a book that he doesn't know (he doesn't bought it, and as so he didn't invest time reading it,and doing the exercises)? How can a person judges a work "from the table of contents"?
If any of you is decided to buy the book and invest your time in these exercises I guarantee you'll be positively susprised.

One last thing: English is not the only language in this world, and when someone write a review in a foreign language usually makes mistakes. That is natural fact. I would like to see this gentleman trying to do a review in a foreign language without errors.

I am in awe of this man who calls himself Luk Chun Bond, it could be James Bond for all we know, who is a true master of the martial arts that not many can even begin to realise just what it takes to become one. Just read his book, The First 16 Secrets of Chi, and you will have a idea of what it means to sacrifice your life to what you believe in, no matter what field of endeavour you attempt to achieve. And to think he once shared part of his art for free, for years and years to whomever and whatever, no questions ask, just come and be healthy and happy, unheard of in this age of money, money and more money. Read the book first, then you will have a small idea of what this "man" is all about. By the way I had my book autographed which to me is priceless.

And all of them from first-time reviewers, many of whom seem to be struggling with english and making the identical mistakes, and each of them writing reviews of roughly the same length, and most of them reporting miracle cures for some ailment of other??? Puh-leeze. Instant healing just does NOT happen with Qigong. It's not supposed to.

The story available in the "Look Inside" link on this website is ridiculous. Did Deng Ming Dao write this book as a ghost writer?

If you want a reputable, reliable Qigong book, look to Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming or Roger Jahnke. These very excellent, well-established, highly esteemed authors don't have as many reviews combined as the unknown Luk Chun Bond has for this one book! Believe me, that reflects more on Bond than on them.

The excersises in this particular book, judging from the table of contents, may be good, but the insecurity demonstrated by the bogus reviews here and the make-believe story in the introduction cast a poor light on the book from the get-go. If the "sixteen secrets" are just sixteen basic Qigong excercises and some diet tips, then where's the secret?

And to think, I *almost* ordered it.

Either if you're a pro or a student, this book is a MUST-HAVE. "Buy it NOW, don't waste more time" is the best advice I could give to you.

This book has very well detailed TCP/IP information, unfortunately some of the information is outdated. The book is easy to follow, and would make an even better learning tool if updated. I bought the book since it was required reading for a class, but I would opt out for a younger publishing on this topic if I had a choice.

This is a good book that covers all the fundamentals of TCP/IP networking. Good illustrations. Seperate chapters for each common application protocols.

Well written and illustrated. Very comprehensive. After reading several books on the subject, I find this one to have easily remembered formulas for everything TCP/IP. A must for the networking professional and the up and coming professional as well.

This book is an excellent reference or source to really learn some of the innards of TCP/IP. Very good diagrams and everthing is explained in an easy to understand way. I would recommend some basic to intermediate knowledge of network before picking this up.

This is a must have in practice! The NP that I was practicing with during my clinical rotation actually told me to get this and he was correct, you have everything you need in one book!

I am a pharmacist and carry this book with me everywhere. It is small enough to fit in my purse and it can answer questions on dosing, indications, and much more. It is definitely a lot faster to use than the slow computers at the pharmacy!

I use this pocket guide more often than I use my palm pilot for drug doses. My lab coat is not complete without this book. Even when I am on call, I make sure I have one of my multiple copies at bedside so I can look up meds in the middle of the night. Also, I am a preceptor for PA students, and I recommend each and every one of them purchase some version of this guide (and most of them do).

A fast, keep in your shirt pocket reference for drug name, dosing, available dosing sizes, route of clearance and safety in pregnancy or lactation. It is tiny - a centimeter thick and shirt pocket dimensioned. Really great when a patient comes in with some oddball psych med, is found to be pregnant or you get a braincramp somewhere around your thirtieth patient of the day. I use this little gem regularly.

It's great IF the ONLY info you need is dosing information. If you need more information like SIDE EFFECTS, METHOD OF ACTION, etc, 'Clinician's Pocket Drug Reference' from Scut Monkey is far more useful/helpful. At least it was (and is) to me during med school and now in residency.

I love coming of age stories. I loved this one, even though I did not grow up in the Valley like Sophie and the shortcuts to my preteen heart are the words of other singers. It probably because at 12 or so I felt like an outsider -- I think a lot of people do (except cheerleaders, maybe) -- I know my carefully considered, carefully put-together personality was about as substantial then as the toilet paper which, not being as inventive as Sophie, I used to stuff my bra. I too think this would make a great movie -- it's evocative, rich with details of time and place--and outfits! And yet no matter the specifics, we are in that familiar country of teen-dom, waiting, waiting for something to happen. We are rooting for Sophie to get what she wants, even though right now, it's only what she thinks she wants.... Go Sophie!

Susan's story brings back memories for all of us who grew up on the other side of the hill. The Valley in the 70's had a feeling all it's own. This story does a wonderful job of capturing that distinctive time and place.

Sophie, Susan Hayden's protagonist, immediately takes readers into the naive-yet-brassy world of teenagers. Hayden's characters and dialogue are genuine yet slightly askew, a complelling combination that rings true to the world she describes. Tension and humor dance in these pages, creating an enjoyable balance. I much enjoyed "Cat Stevens Saved My Life" and recommend it.

Susan Hayden is a master at stringing words together to visually drop you right into her characters' lives. This coming-of-age novel is a real page turner and not to be missed by anyone serious about reading good literature.

What a wonderful book - humor, the wisdom of the young and naive and a heartfelt story of coming of age. The adults scurrying for their pleasures while the children try to understand and create a reality that makes sense to them.
There is a Sophie in all of us, using whatever means to keep her emotions in check, trying to understand how to belong and make sense of her life. Despite the fact that the story is written in the seemingly safety of the San Fernando Valley, the material life is in conflict to the supportive life of these girls. Thank goodness for friendship. Susan captures the tenderness, the betrayal, and the seeking of an outside icon to make her life rich and beautiful.
