I am buying this book for a friend's new baby. I have a very old copy of the same book that I recieved when I was just three
years old. It has always fascinated and excited me. Children love it for the wild and surreal drawings. Adults love it for
the sheer beauty in the artwork. I highly recommend this collection for anyone who wants something a little different. You
won't be dissapointed.

Fashion, Retailing and a Bygone Era: Inside Women's Wear Daily is a look back upon the past fifty years of the women's fashion
industry, as detailed by seven former editors of the Women's Wear Daily newspaper. Women's Wear Daily lasted nearly 100 years
because of its mission - to present readers with the facts to aid their business decisions - and was an upstanding "must-read"
for designers, manufacturers, trend makers, and marketers due to its integrity and keen eye for detail. Fashion, Retailing
and a Bygone Era is packed cover to cover with fascinating, sometimes hilarious, sometimes perplexing moments in the ever-changing
world of what's hot and what's not. Highly entertaining, and especially recommended for anyone interested in learning more
about the demands of the fashion industry.
Stories from a Newspaper that was an International Icon

There are a few newspapers that reach the status of a must read. And there was a time when Woman's Wear (as it was called)
was right up there with the Wall Street Journal, or Variety. Each of these is basically a specialty newspaper that covers
one industry. Woman's Wear obviously covered the Rag Trade. From some time in the early 1950's to the end of the 1960's Woman's
Wear was a must read. Today it is still a big paper, but nothing like it was.
This book is the personal recollection of seven of the editors that made Woman's Wear what it was. They held verious positions on the paper and tell the stories with wit and a tenderness about the paper they obviously loved. Most of the stories, like the stories we remember of our own career are short with unexpected endings. The things that make a good story. And good stories make a good newspaper or even a book.
This is not a serious tome, but a delightful read about a time now gone.

I couldn't put this book down. The writer's style is fresh and different. The "flavor" of Mexico City was vivid, and the plot
and characters were believable. I agree, this would make a great movie starring Benicio del Torro as Juan.
I'll be looking for more books by this author.

This novel contains a great mixture of mystery, humor and sexual energy. The story takes place in Mexico and involves scandalous
deeds commited by important political officials. Many corresponding events occur and all are described vividly and flawlessly.
This book would make a great movie!

A favorite with all my kids and their friends

This book was a favorite of both my daughters when they were around 18 months to 2 1/2 years of age. My younger daughter currently
looks at it repeatedly throughout the day and always wants us to read it to her or to "read" it to us. It is a great tool
for initiating conversation and building vocabulary on everyday objects. The simple yet bright illustrations are good at grabbing
a child's attention. It covers things you'd find in the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, park, school, supermarket, farm, beach,
etc. as well as showing colors and shapes. It also asks about the sounds animals make, shows differences (tall vs. short,
etc.) and types of people (baby, girl, boy, etc.)
I almost wish this book was offered in a board format, as the pages get a little ragged after going through several kids, but overall it's held up pretty well! I've bought several copies as birthday presents for friends and they have all loved it as well. I'm planning on getting the other books in the series: First Color Book, First Shape Book and First Number Book for Christmas presents for my daughter since she loves the First Word Book so much.

We received it through a book club and the only negative thing I can say is that the pages haven't held up to his constant
use of it. He loves the bright pictures and will sit in our laps or in a chair for a long time just looking or pointing and
saying "what's that?" We love the book, too.

geomorphology. This book should be required reading for all students and practicioners of fluvial sequence stratigraphy.

This book is thorough and comprehensive in scope. It tells you exactly what you need to know to apply for a grant from the
many organizations it lists. A good measure of its worth is that it's in its 11th update.

Both the graduate school office and the office of career counseling at my college have this book, and the staff guard it jealously--with
good reason. It clearly describes each foundation and their guidelines for the type(s) of grants they make. In perusing
this book, I didn't find a guide to writing a grant (probably because I was seeking foundation information), though other
excellent books on how to do so exist elsewhere. If you want to cut to the chase, and save time and energy in targeting the
right foundation(s) to meet your need, the hefty pricetag is worth your investment.

This book contains the four "best" comedies of Shakespeare, along with an excellent foreword by Joseph Papp. For each play,
it contains a very well written introduction (one that is not only on the play, but links each of them together), Shakespeare's
original source material (example: "A Merry Jest of a Shrewd and Curst Wife Lapped in Morel's Skin" for "the Taming of
the Shrew"), and well commented textual notes. I found this collection particularly useful for an "upper-level" look at
these four plays.

Elkin at the height of his art

At one point in the Franchiser, the book's central character, Ben Flesh, says with a whimpering exhale: I want my remission
back. Ben's flesh, literally, and Ben's small empire of franchises face imminent death in a 1970s America of rolling blackouts
and gas shortages. Ben has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis; his franchising fund, controlled by his godcousins, has
been diagnosed sub-performing and unfit.
The back-story of Ben's franchise building ability is laid out in a wonderful early chapter, but what draws us to Elkin, and why we'll read anything he wrote is the language-writing that is grabbed by the jugular and dragged like prey across the page. Like all his characters, those in The Franchiser speak in a colorful and idiosyncratic vernacular, and in Ben's case the dogmatisms of business school and manias of endless entrepreneurship. If you are a Midwesterner, especially one from Kansas City, you will smile at Flesh's analysis รก la Roland Barthes of the Crown Center Mall. Read Elkin's Franchiser: laugh, cry, and marvel at it all.

You won't come acoss a more side-splittingly funny portrait of America in 1976 than what Elkin gives us here. I don't know
which is the more: the humor in America that is depressing or the depression that is humorous; in any event, the book is a
must for anyone who likes his or her humor bitersweet, his or her prose lush, and his or her mind to be stimulated and entertained!

I loved this book. I found it in the Unity library and read it. Vera Alder was in England, in the country and during the War
and she had a master or something come to her and teach her the mysteries. this being took her to the edge of the universe
and then inside a cell in her big toe. that is the mundane to the magnificent part. micro to macro.
Several members read it after my raving about how good it was. then the book disappeared. too bad. I would hate to have to pay the 143.00 they are now asking for a used copy of it. in my opinion it should be reprinted also. more significant than the finding of the 3rd eye and the fifth dimension.
