Great illustrations, characters and an amazing setting make Tut, Tut (Time Warp Trio) a fabulous find for young readers. There's plenty of laughs here for parents as well in this very well written novel.

Join Joe, Fred, Sam and Anna (Joe's sister) as they travel back to ancient Egypt through a book that lands them in quite a situation. The problem is that they need that same book to get back home, and they lost it!

There's non-stop adventure and some wonderful history that may well encourage young readers to seek out more information about this period of Egyptian history.

Time-traveling is not as cool as you think. Being mummified, being trapped in a secret room and having your friend almost eaten by a crocodile is not cool. But what is cool is being treated as a royal guest in Thutmose III's palace, sailing in his boat and teaching him basketball. So, if you like things that are cool and not, you should read this hilariously funny book.

The book was about three boys and a girl who go to Egypt through a book that one of the boys uncles gave him. They have to travel through Egypt and find the book to get back home and meet a little challenge along the way named Hatsnat. I liked this book because we had just learned about Egypt so that made it better to understand.

I give this book five stars because it is very funny. It is also adveturous. The characters in this story (Joe, Fred, Sam) get in a lot of trouble and Sam almost gets eaten by a crocodile. I don't want to say more because I want you to read it for your self. I don't want to spoil the surprise.

My Kids LOVED This Book-- And I Loved Reading It To Them

NEW EDITION, PLEASE!! Why are great kids' books like this allowed to fall out of print? All of my kids spent hours pouring over every page of this thing, seeking all the exciting little details that were hidden in the illustrations. The story is fun, the illustrations ravishing-- it's a joy to read to a 4 or 5 or 6-year-old, and older kids will enjoy reading it themselves. Seeing the prices on available copies, I'd better hang onto our tattered copy for eventual grand-kids....

Perhaps the greatest children's book ever.

I have always loved this book. It is for anyone with a vivid imagination. I first saw it fifteen years ago and still read it today. It is one of those classic books like "The Battle of Otok" "Trumpets in Grumpetland" or any other great children's adventure.

This is a good book!

The illustrations are really good in this book. I especially liked the keys on some pages that explain the many details in the pictures. I like the hidden faces in every picture. I like the Grumpets and Trumpets and their battles between bad and good. I like the maps. All aged kids would like this book and its companion, Grumpets in Trumpetland.

hello my name is nick thomas,
When i was a younger child (i am now a teenager) i owned the book trouble for trumpets. Recently i have remembered the book and realized i have lost it and have not looked at it for a long long time. it was always my favourite book and i still wish to find another one, but the sad part is that it is now too much for a book i once owned. i highly recommend this book for anyone that has a superb imagination. this book inspired my life deeply. I am still tempted to find that book and for anyone looking for one go for it , that book was amazing.
thank you for your time.

The English cultivate a talent that we Americans, for all our inherent charms, lack. Consider for a moment the picture books of artists like Graeme Base or Peter Cross. In both their works, lush full-color illustrations are filled to overflowing with hidden details, small clues, and minor hilarities on almost every page. Of course, for all Base's charms, he can't hold a candle to Cross's work on the "Trumpets" series. I've never run across a picture book, no matter how beautifully illustrated, that sported the illustrator's name before the author's on the book's cover. "Trouble For Trumpets" is the first I've seen to do this, and deservedly so. Fairly reeking of its own Englishness, the story tells of a battle between good and evil in a fairly Redwallian manner. It's not for the plot that you'll be reading this book, however, but for the journey that takes you through its pages.

Podd welcomes you right from the start. He's a Trumpet, which is to say that he's a rather adorable creature that enjoy the summers and hibernates during the winters. Trumpets have a well-organized society and must continually protect themselves from the opposing Grumpet army. Grumpets are like Trumpets but they prefer the cold and dark and are intent on conquering the Trumpet land. In this particular tale, Podd and his friend Livingstone are on a bit of a vacation when they come across a Grumpet submarine. While the rest of the Trumpets are traipsing off to hibernate, Podd is intent on discovering what the Grumpets are up to. He spies on them and is captured rather quickly before he can ascertain the nature of the Grumpet "secret weapon". Fortunately, Podd is able to make a daring escape, warn the Trumpet army, and participate in a truly epic battle between Trumpet and Grumpet forces. In the end, the Trumpets win and Podd is allowed a much-deserved nap of his own.

The story, such as it is, is nothing much to crow about. Traces of "The Borrowers", "Redwall", and "Brambly Hedge" come to mind in its narrative. None of this is to say that the story is poorly written. I'm just pointing out that the real winner here is illustrator Peter Cross. I spent literally half an hour inspecting as many little tiny details as I could in a single picture, and I probably haven't even scratched the surface of what there is to find here. Cross makes references to Magritte and M.C. Escher, places little numbers all over the pictures with a corresponding key at the bottom of large color spreads, and is shockingly accurate when it comes to the flora and fauna of the British countryside. Mice, birds, insects, and reptiles are rendered completely realistically here. You can make out every little feather on his English Robin's breast and for some it will come as no surprise that starlings are the birds most used by Grumpets. And just in case you're feeling particularly in need of entertainment, Cross has hidden 22 faces amongst his illustrations throughout the book, as well as including a Grumpet alphabet for translating secret messages. Whew!

It's very sad to say, but the nearest American equivalent to Cross's work would have to be Martin Handford's, "Where's Waldo" books. And like "Waldo", I'm more than certain that if the "Trumpets" series achieved the same level of popularity, it would be banned just as quickly for the same reasons. Do you remember when some overly protective parent got "Waldo" banned because in one of the pictures featured a woman leaping out of her bikini top? Well, should a reissue of "Trouble For Trumpets" ever come to America's muddle-headed attention, the two pictures of topless female Trumpets (they're pin-ups and not grotesque or even particularly noticeable) would undoubtedly turn a few heads. By the way, don't go picking up this book if you're looking for strong female characters. The only gals you're going to find here are nurses, mothers, ladies on the wireless (tip o' the hat to World War II), and little girls. No fighters nor independent gals. We're talking 1940s roles for women. So eschew the book if you don't dig the archaic use of ladies.

I've hardly scratched the surface of what there is to find in this book. If you look at the cover you'll see references to future illustrations, a ladybug processional, Celtic Trumpets, machines to bowl over Rube Goldberg.... the list goes on and on. Undoubtedly some people will claim that the "Trumpet" series is too British for Americans. I disagree. If Alfred A. Knopf will do Mr. Cross the honor of republishing this title, I think we might all be pleasantly surprised by the reception it receives. In case that never happens though, let's just enjoy the book for what it is. A rousing gem to be treasured by those few who know about it.

I bought this book at a dollar store and it was worth every penny. Oh well, now that you've suffered through my lame attempt at humor move on to Bob Smith's genuinely funny and frequently moving collection of memories of childhood and busted romances. I usually avoid humor books of this sort (the authors usually concoct nothing out of nothing) but Smith has a engaging style of writing and vivid insights that can really take you back to your childhood, especially if you are in the same age range as him. The funniest are his memories of his fourth grade teacher, Mr. McGaffin. "I quickly realized one of the benefits of having a male teacher was that I could look at Mr. McGaffin as much I wanted while he taught...I studied Mr. McGaffin as if I was going to be tested on the geography of his face." Later that year, Smith discovers his semi-conscious crush has a "friend" Jeffrey and is curious about their relationship but too shy to pry, fortunately for him he is around when "Debbie Gruber...a loudmouthed girl and every thought that came into her head fell from her mouth like a letter through a mail slot" bluntly asked "Mr. McGuffin, do you live with Jeffrey?" Later, Smith learns the men live nearby his home and rides by their own their bike and spots Mr. McGuffin mowing the lawn. "I regretted I hadn't asked the inquisitive Debbie Gruber to tag along. She would have demanded, 'Can we see the inside of your house?'"

This book is so funny I might save up a dollar and buy his other one.

I had high hopes for this book. It started off really well. The stories of Bob's break-up from Tom was actually interesting to read, and was a story I could follow and invest in. I was hoping for a happy ending at the end--perhaps taking this sad event and finding the humor and of course life lessons in it.

Halfway through the book, Bob resorts to childhood memories. It almost seemed as though he was writing two different books, one of memories and the other of his current life. I felt somewhat lost at times. The stories were entertaining, but didn't seem to make sense being plopped down in the middle of the rest of the current day situations. He ends the chapter with "Mom, I have a date." What a great line! It allows the reader to find out with who?? Is he moving on? Is he the man of his dreams? We never get to find out.

Instead, he moves quickly into his childhood, relating stories that are amusing in their own right but highly out of place. It almost makes me wish that the author would take a chance and finish that third book, finish the second book, and rerelease them.

He then skips back to current day with his misadventures of dates...which sort of leaves me wondering what was going on with the childhood chapters in the middle of the story. They didn't seem to go with the rest of the text.

It was enjoyable...but it left me wanting more.

I picked this book up at a booksale and really enjoyed it. Bob Smith is a very funny guy that talks about his failed relationship of 10 yrs, his relationship with his family and how he's beginning to date again and getting on with his life. I think his feelings on a relationship ending, on his mother, etc, are very universal and not limited to gay people. I think gay and straight alike can enjoy this very funny book. Find a copy and try not to crack a smile!

Loved it!

What makes a good author, in my opinion, is his or her ability to capture the human condition in such a way that it comes across as real.

What makes a good comedian, again in my opinion, is to take slices of ordinary life and see the humor in them. Mr. Smith is clearly capable in both areas. While he's not the only person (let alone gay one) to see a relationship end, his ability to harness all of the involved elements (the concerned family, division of the utensils, joint custody of mutual friends and the eventual return to the single's scene) and make them both funny and touching.

It may not be as funny if you can't "relate" .. but for anyone who has ever addressed and gotten through a painful situation through humor, this book is a treat.

Keep 'em coming, Bob...

We've tried a number of Indian cookbooks over the years, and the recipes have always seemed easy but produced very mediocre, often bland, results. This cookbook has the authentic recipes clearly explained. We've made a number of the dishes and they have turned out exactly as the dishes found at the restaurant (i.e., delicious!). I don't have trouble finding all the ingredients at nearby Indian/Middle Eastern grocery stores. But one issue is that there are some classic vegetarian dishes that I wish they would have added: Palak Paneer (spinach with homemade cheese), Chole (curried chickpeas), and Dum Aloo (dry-cooked potatoes with lots of spices). Also, the Aloo Gobhi recipe is quite flavorful, but should be a little less oily in my opinion. Otherwise, this is a really great resource for some classic Indian main dishes, appetizers, and desserts. It's been especially useful since the restaurant is a bit pricey, and we've gone out to eat less frequently now that we have kids. Thanks, Mr. Moorjani!

My first experience with Indian food was back in 94 at Ajanta located on Solano Avenue in Berkeley, and I've fallen in love with Indian food ever since. The problem was, however, everywhere I went-- NOTHING compared to the dishes Mr. Moorjani created at his restaurant and I always craved to return to the area just to try what delightful creations he's created for his ever changing menu. SO I was extremely pleased when he published this cookbook, AND even more impressed when a novice like me tried to make 4 of the dishes and it came out just like the flavors at the restaurant. The recipes seem complicated, but if you enjoy cooking and love Indian food, the directions are detailed, easy to follow and worth the time and effort. The dishes are perfect to feed 4-6 people and I think the appetizer dishes ( i.e. portobella mushroom/asparagus) are ideal for an impressive potluck dish. Not only do you get GREAT recipes, but I appreciate the variety of flavors that reflect the different regions of India.

Excellent recipes! Authentic taste!

I have made five of the recipes so far and each has been a complete success. The only challenge, as another reviewer has mentioned, is compiling the necessary spices. Ajanta restaurant sells a spice box called "Shanti's Spice Box" for about $30 which is available on their web site. I've purchased two - one for myself and one for a friend. The ingredients in the box are in quantities proportional to their use in the cookbook, so pretty much everything you'll need is there. The spice box makes following these recipes really easy. The cooking techniques may seem a bit different, but they are well-explained and straight forward. Just read through your recipe completely and have everything ready before you start and it will be a success! Two favorites: the green bean and potato recipe shown on the cover and the prawns bhuna masala.

Never disappointing!

I bought this book after stumbling into the Ajanta restaurant in Berkeley. My friend and I were incredibly hungry and were craving Indian food- and Ajanta was the only restaurant left open on the top part of Solano Avenue.

I am soooo glad I accidently stumbled into that restaurant! That night they were having a party for Lachu Moorjani, who had just put out his cook book. I remembered really enjoying the cuisine (especially all of the dipping sauces used for the samosas), so I thought I should get the book and try recipes.

Me and my family have tried numerous Indian recipes from online as well as in other cookbooks, but the results are always substandard....sauces are drippy, no taste, spices aren't just right, etc. And when it is so easy to get good Indian food in Berkeley, I would just give up trying to cook my own Indian food...until I found Ajanta!

And now I live in a smaller Midwestern city with limited Indian restaurants (I think there are maybe one or two here)---I am soo appreciative of the book!

The Ajanta recipes are fabulous! Between my sister and I, we have made about 8 recipes- all of which turned out well, if not extraordinary. None were disappointing! And all were so tasty! I am so excited!! If anyone loves Indian food, this is the book for you.

This book shows this, and Linell did a great job giving you the acurate information, in a wonderful book to read. I am glad I could finally order it!

I live in Southern Ontario. Years ago I borrowed this book from a library and loved it so much I told them I lost it and paid for it (I think it was around $25) and now that I see the cheapest one is $92 I don't feel quite as bad. This is the best book about an Arabian I have ever read. The part when the Russians took the majority of the breeding stock at Janow broke my heart-what a loss for all of Poland forever. And the sacrifices that the Polish people made to save all those horses was incredible. And of course when Witez won the Championship, I too, am moved to tears every time I read this. I have always thought that someone should make a movie of this story-it's not just a 'horse story' but a great story of struggle and survival of the Polish people. (I am Polish-my grandfather fought in WWII.) I have even made Witez's name my email address-if you live in S. Ont. and have any descendants of him you can send me pics - trwitez@hotmail.com

An absolutely great WWII story.

It's hard to know where to start with this book. I've had it forever (I think its original list price was about $12...) and doubt I'll ever sell it. It succeeds on so many levels - as a story of an incredible Arabian stallion, Witez, bred from the best at Janow Stud in Poland; of the people who loved him throughout his life (some fiction, some real); of the standards of training and performance Arabians had to meet at Janow before they would be kept as breeding stock; of the sufferings of Poland during WWII while Russia, Germany and the Allies fought back and forth across some of its richest land; of the richly earned heritage of the Polish cavalry and their role in the war; of Patton's rescue of the "super horses" (which included the Lipizzaners but not JUST them); of how Witez was chosen to come to America and how close his owners came to not getting him and then, to wrap it up, how he performs in halter classes when his owners got sick of hearing rumors about his lack of quality (of course, he swept home a champion). It is, in many places, a breathless story, almost beyond belief, and in many others a fascinating weave of many of the historical threads that came together in WWII.
Read it because you love Arabians, read it if you love history, but find a copy somewhere and read it - you won't be disappointed.

I took this book to the local 'smith meeting in Woodville, Tx. I think everyone there has a copy or is looking foward to getting on.

Thanks to the the author for producing a great book. Looking foward to the next one.

This is a good beginner to intermediate book to help someone understand and start blacksmithing. The suthor is well versed in her art and provides good pictures for students to better understand the forging process. Like most books of this kind, however, a student is best served having taken a ahort course in blacksmithing to better understand the terminology.

Although I am very familiar with working with Metal, and many other forms of crafting, I knew little of Blacksmithing. I have always been interested in Blacksmiths since I was a child, but knew nothing of their background, history, and the tricks of the trade so to say that they used to form beautiful and more importantly, useful items that they created.

I recently had the opportunity to work in a blacksmith shop, but I had to do so alone, as the former blacksmith had moved on. Hence I purchased several books to learn of their ways.

I was very interested in this book for one just because it was written by a female blacksmith, something I found to be unheard of, as I never in my life saw a female blacksmith working any forge I ever encountered. I felt that I had to have this book over all others as it would give me not just knowledge of blacksmithing, but a woman's point of view on it, which I felt could be very enlightening.

I could not have been more correct. This is so far the best book I have purchased on blacksmithing, and I have purchased 8 here through Amazon. This book is very well written, depicted, laid out, and explained. I loved the mixture of some of the history, and more so the insight of the craft. For example a simple account of how you will keep getting burned, I laughed over for some time, and yes, so far, I have gotten burned twice. Yea, I'm a newbie, read the book, you will laugh and only then really understand this statement. Also how the Blacksmith bug will bite you and you know it has if scraps of iron start to almost call out to you, grabbing your full attention since as you look at it, you depict in your mind all the things you could make that piece into. I for one remember that line in the book since I have already noticed that the Bug has fully bitten and infected me.

Out of reading the whole book, I was only left with 2 or 3 items that I didn't understand, and that may have been that I missed something in my reading of it, since I did so in a hurried piecemeal fashion. In other words, when I had to put it down or get fired from work, I hurriedly picked it back up as soon as I could to read more!

This is an awesome book. If you are to buy only ONE book, then make it this one. Even the projects in the back are as good as or better than a Project book I purchased. LOL... Enjoy!

I think this was my favorite volume in the series so far. The first two were fun and entertaining, but in this one the plot becomes thicker, more complicated, and we start to see glimpses of a rich backstory behind the characters Grandma Ben and Thorn. People who liked the first two books will be sure to like this one, too.

This is my 1st Graphic Novel that I have read. Jeff Smith is a great author and illustrator. The words along with the pictures tell a great story. Jeff uses many story elements in his book Eyes of the storm. His plot has several conflicts in it. He uses mainly person-against-person, with it being the Bone cousins and village people against the rat creatures. Jeff Smith uses flashbacks and foreshadowing in dreams to let Thorn know what her past was like. He uses cliff hangers to make the story more suspenseful. Amongst all of this, Jeff Smith knows how to lighten the atmosphere by putting humor in the right places. This book kept me wanting more. I can't wait to get a hold of the next volume. This will not be my last graphic novel that I read.

This book I just read is about a boy named Bone. Bone's friend started a cow race, and convinced everyone to bet on a cow that didn't even exist. So now they have to wash dishes at a bar to pay back what they destroyed. They have weird dreams about their past. So they spend days trying to figure out what their dreams were about. There are furry creatures in the woods trying to kill them.
Bone was the main character in the story he is the coolest and funniest in the book. There grandma reminds me of my grandma from when I was 3. She told me that there as no such thing as ghosts. I figured out that there was such thing as ghosts when I was 5. My favorite part in the story is when Bone realized that their dreams where real. If you like comic books then you will like the Bone series. This book was made to be read by kids 11 and older.

These books are fantastic! I have two 7yr old boys that cry if I don't read this book to them at night.

Parents:
Imagine using, I won't read to you tonight if you don't stop right now, and it works...that's how good this series is. At first I thought the book might be a little too scary for them but they were hooked and it wasn't until book 4 that I had to consider sensoring some of the language (things like "idiot"). Any book that brings kids back to the well again and again is worth purchasing.

We have really enjoyed druthering. My seven year old didn't want to quit! I like the fact that this book is appropriate for any age. I enjoy hearing why people choose the answers they do. I'm giving these out for Christmas presents. I'd much rather have a book like this than fruitcake! : )

If I had my druthers, I would not have been in a car with my least-favorite cousins on a two-hour road trip to a "must-do" family gathering. The only thing that saved civility in the car was that I had grabbed my copy of The Book of Druthers before leaving. Once on the interstate, I opened the book and read aloud the first druthers. It was an easy ride from then on. Indeed, by the time we had reached our destination, I liked and had great respect for my cousins. And I think they can now tolerate me. The Book of Druthers, then, is not only good for road trip entertainment, it can bring a family closer together. Now, I think I will sit and think through it in solitude.

Henrietta Elmore-Smith has created a wonderful heroine in Carmel Delarue. She has integrity, spunk, drive, character, and courage, and she needs all of those qualities to keep up with the men who keep chasing her! No matter what happens around her, Carmel never loses her self-respect or composure. She is a character both women and men will admire. I can't wait for Ms. Elmore-Smith's next book!

Chased is a story that you can cheer for the characters, and it is easy for the reader to find themselves wanting to be in those
characters shoes. What man wouldn't want to be Durrell, tall, dark, handsome and hard working. What man couldn't resist a bright, beautiful and confident woman as Carmel?, a wonderful role model.
Why had I not read this book 2 years ago, it is fun and exciting and you can imagine yourself in the high powered settings of the story and the ambiance draws you in.
All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone, for enjoyable
reading. The characters are believable and I commend the author
on her writting style and format and looking forward to the next work from Henrietta Elmore-Smith.

Once you begin reading this novel it becomes apart of your persona. At least that's what happened to me. It is drama, humor, comedy, romance, serious business and more; it is worth paying for. I want to read more from this author. She has given new meaning to what fictional work is all about. I'll be waiting.

By reading the positive comments about CHASED I decided to read it myself and I am so glad I did. The interactions that the characters have is so intriguing. It is a work that is so well written and the author's main characters are so well portrayed; it's as if you were actually witnessing real-life situations. What an imagination she has and there are some phenomenally funny circumstances that erupt. Ms. Elmore-Smith has painted an upscale business world with unyielding energy.

I understand this is Ms. Elmore-Smith's first book. I am so impressed with the fact that she chose to do a descriptive narrative in her first novel. I applaud the author for deciding upon this type of format. In this novel she paints a world about our present day and fast-paced society offering the opportunity for success with career, romance and life in general. It is truly a great escape. I found a few areas that I could relate to; like being attracted to someone whom seemed already spoken for and still wanted to pursue them. There is some boldness to her writing and then again she applies finesse in developing each character. I had to read this novel in low-gear and when I reached the end there was a bit of a jolt-I never saw it coming-Chased was well worth my time and $20.00 Bucks-Another 5 Stars for the author.

This is a great book for scrapbookers. It is one of the best I have, and I have a lot of books. This book is perfect to help you make more creative pages. It is easy to follow and you can mix and match pages. It is perfect for the person who wants to use 5 or 6 or more pictures for their pages, but can't figure out how to get them to fit. There are plenty of layout page books out there, but I have never seen one that actually tells you the exact measurements to cut. You can make pages pretty quick and they are really nice. It is a must have, I highly highly recomend it.

Being new to scrapbooking, it is sometimes hard to create a layout from scratch. The patterns in this book help to get the creative juices flowing whether you exactly copy a pattern or take elements of the design to enhance your own ideas. Even veteran scrapbookers can benefit from the wealth of page layouts. Highly recommended.

This book has beautiful scrapbooking pages laid out with instructions on dimensions to cut your paper (so that you get the most out of your patterned paper), ideas for changing the layout slightly, and techniques for papercrafting/stamping/scrapbooking. You could make hundreds of different pages using just this book! IT's the best scrapbooking book I've seen!

It's Becky Higgins sketches taken a step further

I've been a huge fan of Becky Higgins sketches because they give me a blueprint for my scrapbooking layouts. A friend recommended Cherish to me, and I was skeptical at first because I've bought too many scrapbook "how-to" books over the years. Nevertheless, I bought it, and I loved it immediately. If you love Becky Higgins' sketches, you absolutely flip over this book. Not only do you get a sketch for your layout, but you get paper and picture sizes as well. In fact, you even get a diagram of how to best cut your coordinating papers to minimize waste! I just completed a [...]scrapbook for my son's teacher, and I used this book to do it. The final album was incredible! If you like using sketches for your scrapbooking, you need to buy this book.
