I have had this book for quite a few years now and I absolutely love it. I have come to depend on it for wowing guests and at potlucks. I have made nearly every recipe in this book and I have never been disappointed. The pictures are fabulous, instructions are well written and easy to follow.
A huge plus is that each recipe shows the nutrient value. There are wonderful little tips throughout the book as well as silly stuff by Mr. Simmons. The Almond-Ginger Biscotti I make the most and it has never failed to please. Great book and a must for any dessert lover and recipe book collection.

Man, if I could take one cookbook with me to heaven, this is it! It has fantastic tasting recipes (Cranberry-Apple Crisp and Chocolate Mousse Pie) and the fat content is so low, it's astounding! How does Richard do it? Everything in this book is fabulous, and so low in fat! Must be magic!

Thank you, Mr. Richard!

This book has some really good ideas for deserts. My husband has diabetes and the recipes fit right in with his diet requirements. One downfall, there is no information pertaining to the food-mover program Richard has. There is portion size, and calorie content broken down by protein, fat, carbs., but if you want an easy way to use your food mover don't expect to find it here.

Richard Simmons' "Sweetie Pie" is a delight for the eyes and the tastebuds. It's filled with mouth-watering, well done photographs of luscious desserts which might even earn it a spot as a coffee table book. As noted by another reviewer, people with diabetes can indulge in some of the recipes.

All of us like a satisfying sweet end to a meal, and this collection of low-fat recipes will fill the bill without padding your waistline. Recommended both for calorie-counters and for those lucky few who don't worry about weight.

Wow this is a must read I applaud Rev Run & Justine Simmons for thier outstanding work on this book! I am looking for more good reads from this Married couple. I could not put the book down from the first day the book arrived...I was impressed with the stories and illustrations as well.I appreciated their transparency that was displayed in this book...I learned a lot from Justine Simmons and have more of a great deal of respect for her as a Women, Wife, Mother,Friend,Mentor & and of course a sis in Christ Jesus. I jumped at the opportunity to check out this read once I saw how Angela, Jo-Jo, Russy, Vanessa, and Diggy pitched a fit about their business being in the book, specifically because I wanted to read why Angela freaked about how her relationship with Bow Wow was mentioned. I had no idea they were a couple and wondered how that relationship worked out, so I picked up a copy quick.

I planned to read that chapter on Bow Wow and return the book, but as soon as I opened the book, I couldn't put it down. My initial hesitation was nothing facetious, but Run is a reverend, and I'm Agnostic. I figured the book would make me uncomfortable reading it considering my views on religion are so different. I respect Run DMC as one of the most phenomenal hip hop icons and "Run's House" is excellent, but I didn't want to be lectured. I was hoping the book wouldn't be preachy but still be positive. And Run did not disappoint. In the beginning of the book, he clarified immediately that this book was not going to be a sermon and talked about people from different walks of life "I know some people tune out when they hear a reverend start talking about prayer," but he also clarified immediately that he definitely honors God and religion "I truly believe that whatever religion you subscribe to (or even if you don't subscribe to one at all, we can all hear the voice of God inside us." I respect him for standing by his beliefs but throughout the book, not shoving them down his reader's throat. That's what kept me reading!

Readers learn how both him and Justine feel about extended families, how Justine deals with being a stepmother, a behind-the-scenes look at Justine's miscarriage, the relationship with Angela and Bow Wow, virginity, hip hop's influence on their children, being on a reality show, and parenthood. It's an easy read, and I found myself nodding and agreeing with many parts, especially the chapter about parents not realizing that even when their child is 18, they still very much want to be accepted and need your support and encouragement as adults. I almost want to copy and pass around that chapter to so many parents that forget that they will always be the "cool kid" to their children.

Although there were some parts that made me raise an eyebrow (ex. needing permission at 21 for Angela to get a tattoo, demanding that their kids not get any money unless they meet Run's expectations, Run saying he's head of the household and Justine saying she'll give him that title if it makes him feel good), I respected it all. It's just cool to see a positive show about hip hop and African American families to prove we're not all dysfunctional and stereotypical. Who's house? Run's House!

This is a very positive book. Rev Run and Justine did an awesome job at "keeping it real" while giving some very good advice on how to raise children this day and age. I was initially hesitant to purchase this book because my children are still toddlers, however the advice given will stay with me for years. I can't imagine how different society will be if every parent followed the guidelines given in this book!

The well developed characters, authentic setting, and author's ability to captivate the reader made this the best read I've had in a long time. I had a really hard time putting it down and was sad as the end of the book approached. I knew I was going to miss those characters I had bonded with. I am watching for a sequel.

Best work of 'cop' fiction since Joseph Wambaugh

Stan Simmons does something rare in his depictions of life in a small Texas town. He brings a sense of reality to the characters. As a police officer, I could personally relate to the emotions and 'gut feelings' Simmons ascribed to Deputy Wayne Tinsley, the story's main character. Simmons brings a mix of murder, rage, loss, depression, greed and racism together in such a way it wants the reader wanting more. This is one murder mystery you will not have solved before you finish the first chapter.

Excellent story from West Texas in the '50s

This is a well-told story from the time and place where I grew to adulthood. The author is true to the mood and personality of a small West Texas town, as well as the mannerisms and idioms of speech that are characteristic of Texans in that part of the state. It's also a captivating mystery tale, which will grip your attention starting on the first page and hold it until you read the last. The characters seem like real people. After you finish reading the book, you'll wish you could know how things are with them now, and as time goes along.

The only reason I rated this book with 5 stars is that I could go no higher. I was too young to experience the 1950's, and ordinarily don't spend much time on fiction, but BY PATH OF NIGHT struck me to the core. The depth of characters, the unexpected twists, the realism of the times, was just amazing. Please, please tell me there will be a sequel. I'm not ready to say goodby to these characters yet.

An Honest View of Racial Ignorance in the 50's and 60's

Review Date: 2006-05-02
The author does a great job transitioning between chapters to keep the reader who was committed to reading just one more chapter to making a new one-chapter commitment at the end of that one, as well. What strikes me most about the characters and social conditions of the time and place covered in the book is that I grew up at that time and in that environment. Segregation, plus racial ignorance from blacks and whites. It was real! By Path of Night made it real again. I could see, feel, and smell the West Texas sandstorms. I could see the panoramic Texas Plains' sunsets. I could see the farmland, both in good seasons and bad. And I could feel the hatred and intolerance of people separated by the walls of ignorance toward those on the other side of those walls. This book is interesting reading, with plenty of twists, turns, and suspense as a murder is investigated. But it is more that that. It is an honest look at a part of our history.

It's hard to find a crochet book out there that's not full of old lady designs one would never wear. This book is the exception! Full of sexy urban designs and the double crochet makes the work go fast. I made the duster (although I changed it a bit with my own ideas) and you can see the photos

This is really a great book that has clear flat sketches for those who don't like to follow the instructions exactly.
The duster is the first thing I made from the book that's already finished, but i am working on two others!
I highly recommend the book!

DOUBLESTITCH: DESIGNS FOR THE CROCHET FASHIONISTA goes above and beyond most crochet styles and instructions, making it a top pick for any needleworker or library seeking contemporary designs. It tells how to make crochet sexy and fashionable, features crochet wear which can be worn over T-shirts or with jeans, and pairs form-fitting options with color combinations. From halter tops to hoodies, the results are satisfyingly different - and illustrated in full color along with easy step-by-step instructions. Very highly recommended: a unique and refreshingly contemporary application of crochet style.

I LOVE this book. I am an up and coming crochet designer as well. But when I saw this book, I was humbled. These ladies have some serious talent. I'm working on my second project out of this book. I'm making the tube Apron top for me to wear this weekend. I also made the poncho for my 8 year old daughter. There is something in this book for everyone. All you have to do is change the yarn and adjust the size. There is something in this book for old and young alike. No matter what size you are. And a lot of these items are adjustable to give you a truly custom fit... I am in LOVE!

I have been a fan of Double Stitch for a very long time and have followed them since first seeing their work online on another independent crafters site, so when I heard they were producing a book I was truely excited. This book has wonderful photos of all the products and the instructions are simple to follow especially if you are a beginner like me. I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking for new and fun ways to express their individuality. Tumbs up to the Double Stitch sisters!

I don't get easily excited with a crochet book because I have seen so many, I have also designed many projects by myself. But this one is amazing! I love almost everything from it, I already finished the cover shrug (actually it took me one evening to make it), but I did not sewed the feathers because I am very animal friendly crocheter... The spring issue of the Interweaven Crochet shows more photos from the book for your reference. The explications are very easy to follow, but pay attention since there are some mistakes: you better measure the garment before trusting the real stitch number given in the instructions (it refers for example to the white cover shrug, there is a pretty mess). But don't care, the book is still worth all the money it costs. Congratulations to sisters Simmons, what a great taste.

Even though I have lived my whole life in Houston, I often find myself at a loss when I'm trying to think of fun things to do with my kids. This book has been a valuable resource, providing me with information on educational activities, parks, playgrounds, and so forth.

My in-laws are about to come into town from South Africa, and I will be relying heavily on this book as we plan out outings with the kids.

As the author of "Offbeat Houston", I'm always looking for interesting and fun places to see in Houston. "Exploring Houston with Children" is packed with lots of great places to go and fascinating things to see. If you're looking for ways to entertain and educate the kids, you'll find lots of great ideas here. There are many suggestions on integrating the featured attractions into lesson plans, and the resources, photos and web listings provide plenty of additional information. The kids will have fun while learning and, who knows, you just might learn a thing or two yourself!

This is Deborah Frontiera, Jasper Frontiera's wife speaking in this review. As a kindergarten teacher in Houston, ISD, who is in charge of planning field trips for the grade level, I am always on the look out for good resources. Elaine Galit and Vikk Simmon's book, Exploring Houston With Children, is one of the best, most complete, easy to use resources I have seen in a long time. Everything I need is right there all in one place and neatly organized.

Simmons and Galit explored the 4th largest city in the United States, and found lots and lots of fun stuff to do with kids. They researched and interviewed and spent a lot of time gathering so much information that you couldn't possibly get to it all in one summer.

This book is a must for finding the perfect summer or all-year-round activities for your school-age children. It's great for the big kids too, because even if you've lived in Houston all your life, like I have, you didn't know about some of this great stuff!

I was surprised to find so much great information on the space program and astronomy, in general, in and around the Houston area; and I was happy to find so much to do "In your own Backyard," on a shoestring budget.

This is a great bargain in the investment of your kids' childhoods and futures. I wish we had a book like this when I was growing up.

This book will inspire and motivate anyone to be a better person. I expected mostly animal rights stories and while many of these incredible people love animals, it is not the main direction of the book.
The diversity of all these people, from all walks of life, makes this book even more enriching and fascinating. I couldn't put it down.
This will be the perfect birthday or holiday gift to many of my friends and relatives.

How many times have you seen a person in need and walked away? Many times, you walked away because you felt one person could not make a difference in a problem so large. Whether the problem was one of hunger, injustice, homelessness, abandonment, ignorance or other social issues facing us today, it was just easier to walk away.

Ingrid E. Newkirk's One Can Make A Difference, How Simple Actions Can Change the World reminds each of us that one person can make a difference. She has compiled the stories of fifty people who have not looked the other way and have made a real impact on the social issues facing us worldwide.

Each story is told simply and with a strong voice. Whether you are reading the story of Bridget Bardot or Dr. Neal Barnard- hope, inspiration and proof that one person can impact the lives of many is evident.

Ms. Newkirk writes an introduction to each contributor of this work. Her introductions are interesting, full of praise and admiration for the people who are making a difference in the lives of people and animals in need.

I was familiar with most of the contributors in this work but admit to not knowing the full story of how they "got where they are" today. I found the stories of each contributor had an "I want to know more" quality about them. If you can read this work and walk away unaffected, I would be surprised. There is nothing like reading how others have contributed to making our world better to get you jump-started yourself.

During my divorce, a friend of mine told me that I needed to quit thinking about what I had lost and start helping people who had worst problems than mine. I followed her advice and volunteered at my local Make-A-Wish organization. You know what, she was right. My problems seemed to fade into thin air.

This is a book worth reading and one you will pass on to your friends. You will do so with a, "You're going to love this book, I did."

I was a big fan of Ingrid Newkirk's earlier book, Making Kind Choices: Everyday Ways to Enhance Your Life Through Earth- and Animal-Friendly Living, and I especially appreciated the focus on things each person can do to make a difference. So, as you can imagine, I was eager to read her new book, One Can Make a Difference, and I was not disappointed.

This book is filled with great stories from outstanding people -- including several personal heroes of mine, like the Dalai Lama and Martina Navratilova -- all about the ways that they have shown how any individual can make a contribution...or start an entire social movement. This is exactly the kind of inspiring read I needed to stay fired up to play my own part, and I imagine I'll be taking it down off the shelf again and again, whenever I need a boost. What a great book!

Falling in love with the de Burgh brothers....

I really enjoyed Taming the Wolf, the first book in the de Burgh family saga. In fact, I couldn't put it down. At times I wanted to hit Dunstan over the head because he was so darned stubborn and wouldn't listen to what Marion was trying to tell him. He had his honor to uphold and he was darned determined to deliver her back to her devious uncle.

In the end, however, he did see the light and although still stubborn he did show his softer side a little more often; especially with his brothers.

Like the Jude Deveraux's Montgomery's, I absolutely fell in love with the de Burgh brothers. At the moment I'm reading about Geoffrey and since I'm still in the midst of the conflict between Elene and Geoffrey I won't write my review until I'm finished with it, but thus far I am really enjoying the book THE de BURGH BRIDE.

Much to my dismay though, I found that there aren't any further books about the last two de Burgh siblings; which is a shame as I would really like to know why Reynold is the way he is and why does he favor one leg. Then there is of course the youngest: Nicholas. Out of the two last brothers, who holds out the longest at succumbing to cupid's arrow? It is my fervent hope that Simmons will eventually write the last two books in the de Burgh family saga.

I am fortunate to even have the book THE BRIDES OF CHRISTMAS which contains the short story of their father finding a new love as well. I can't read that one though until I read about Simon (The Robber Bride).

I do so love to read books in order.

I got one of the books from an old stack when we were cleaning out my grandmothers house and have been searching for the rest of the books online. I have not been dissapointed! Everyone is as good as the last. These are books I read over and over again and still feel the anticipation and tension between the characters every time.

The sad part is that without a current publisher Simmons will never be able to publish Reynold & Nicolas' stories.

I hold out hope that someday the right person will want these published and will have the power to do something about it.

This is the first book of the de Burgh family and my God I can't wait to get to the others if this one is indicative of what is coming. WOW!

This is the story of the eldest son Dunstan deBurgh and Marion Warenne. It starts out with Marion being rescued by Simon de Burgh and brought to Castle Campion (home to the de Burgh clan)where she stays for the next 6 months before even meeting Dunstan - the eldest de Burgh son. Marion has sustained amnesia and after months of of trying to find out who Marion is the discovery is made and she is to be returned to her Uncle. After putting it to a vote of the 6 de Burgh brothers, Dunstan was elected to return her to her Uncle.

Dunstan had his own property to care for and was very much aginst having to take the time to return this 'piece of baggage' back to her uncle. Marion still did not remember her past but knew, without a doubt, that if she was returned she would be killed. Consequently the trip to return her was one escape attempt after another as she tried to run away from Dunstan.

Dunstan had his own problems, honor bound to do complete this mission his father gave him, and trying to tell himself that he was not feeling any kind of attraction to this 'little brown wren'. Stubborn to a fault, he did NOT believe in love and this was something that did not happen to real people.

What a delightful trip! Naturally, these two get to spend some time together - alone - and what a reckoning this becomes! WOW - Dunstan is one lusty kind of knight and the passion is returned from this 'little brown wren' ! Definitely a page turner and one you must try to get your hands on because you will want to read this one over and over again! The best!

Strike Zone Revisited

When I saw the paperback I checked my library which holds all of Dale Brown's work and I did not find it, so I bought it. As I read the book I soon relized I had read it before. I still read the book (again) and once more enjoyed it. If you like Dale Brown, Strike Zone is up to his normal standard. The theme is the tension between Taiwan and mainland China and the desire by some to start a war between China and the USA, which would leave China in a weakend or defeated state. China is not able to take Taiwan by force, especially with USA backing. Taiwan is not strong enough to take China in open warfare, but if the right people had the funding, and some nukes, and the right delivery system, and China were beat down by a war with the USA, that could kill a lot of people and upset the balance of power and bring down China. Of course, Dreamland gets the task of finding out what is going on, and then stopping it. It is no easy task for Dreamland and it is not without cost, but of course Dreamland saves the world again.

My only disappointment is that I can't find my original copy of Strike Zone, which is most likely a hard cover book.

Brown and DeFelice have done it again

Dale Brown and Jim DeFelice did it again with Dreamland: Strike Zone. This is an excellent read for those of you out there that are Dale Brown fans. The continuation of the storyline along with it being an independent novel makes it a great all around book for any reader. Because of the novels independence, someone that hasn't read any of the books in the Dreamland series will be able to understand and follow the storyline that has been laid out. This series and others by Dale Brown was what made me interested in the war/technology/current event novels. Since then I have become hooked to them.
What I liked the most about this novel is the reality factor that exists and the possibly that there really could be a "Dreamland." The closest known thing to Dreamland is Area 51. I like books like this that make you think about the world around you and what things are happening. Brown likes to use real world events or events and technology. I think that because is a former captain in the United States Air Force this allows him to write books like this. He already has knowledge of aircraft and the general way that the president can give orders to the four braches of the military so for him to write novels about it and to make it interesting for the reader would be easier for him than to write a romance novel.
The characters I think go through an interesting evolution. With what happened to Zen's wife, I don't think that I could have predicted that even at the end of the last novel in the Dreamland series. I also like how the love story that is there between Colonel Bastian and Jennifer Gleason doesn't get in the way of the over all "mission"/ storyline.

Absolutely the best book of the series so far. Full of action from start to finish. Not loaded with as much unbelievable technology as some.

SUSPENSE FILLED LISTENING

Dale Brown, popular author who has penned fourteen New York times bestsellers, is a former Air Force bombardier. He's an ace pilot as well as a first-rate author. Teaming with Jim DeFelice the pair offer a suspenseful high-tech military thriller.

A dynamite performance by JK Simmons makes sparks fly from the opening lines of this action packed tale.

Far out in the Nevada dessert some of the best minds are focused on warfare in the future. Dreamland force has had their hands more than full in stopping an Asian war that could have been a nuclear holocaust destroying the world as we now know it.

However, an even greater challenge is soon to arrive - radar detection shows there is a major threat nearby. It's a robot warplane capable of unheard of destruction. The "ghost clone" as it is called has no known origin but more than one of them could turn our world into a fiery inferno.

How can this warplane be found and stopped?

A complexly devised plot makes for nonstop listening.

Although I have never been a fan of the double author book idea, Dale and Jim seem to have a good thing going here. Strike Zone continues the main characters as they continue to provide the President with options without an all out war. The story opens up slower than the other novels in this series, but as always, the action scenes are fantastic. As a first reader, this one would hold it's own, and if you have the others in the series, it's a MUST HAVE.

The most awesome Entertainment Industry Resource Available!

I am a professional vocal coach and singer for the entertainment industry. This resource manual has proven to be the best of all the ones I've seen on the market. It cannot be compared to any others. First of all, the price is unbelievable for what you are getting. Most industry resource manuals only cover one or two areas of the industry. EPP3 covers FILM, SPORTS, MUSIC AND TELEVISION! Everyone else is charging three to four times more than the price of EPP and definitely not providing as much information. On a scale of 1 through 5, I give EPP-3 a "5". Don't sleep on this opportunity! Get your copy today! You will be extremely glad you did!

This is a much needed resource that opens the door of the seemingly insular entertainment and sports industry to anyone with the interest or inclination. The comprehensive nature of the information provided in this book is incredible. Contact information, internship opportunities, industry events and more. Absolutely phenomenal!

This guide doesn't just give you contact information. It also has interviews with the power players themselves that could stand on their own as an excellent tool. If you buy it, don't set it aside for when you need a phone number; read it cover-to-cover first.

Marvelous instruction from a marvelous golfer

This instructional from Nick Faldo is one of the most comprehensive golf books around. You can tell that Nick is very confident in what he knows and teaches about the golf swing and how to use the "modern swing" and its ability to hold up under championship conditions. I highly recommend this book, especially to golfers 6'2" and taller.

Rare the individual who can both play golf at such an amazing high level and teach it on the simple plain he demonstrates here in this book to us hackers.

There are great gems throughout, but I picked up the best tip on one of my weakest areas, long bunker shots.

The photo sequences are some of the best, so clear and to the point. The final section: Playing the Game, gives some head and strategy advice from one of the coolest, and a two-time Master Champ as well as British Open, etc.

Not only for the advanced . . .

I am relatively new to golf, having only picked up a club for the first time two years ago. I only truly began playing regularly last fall when my girlfriend gave me a set of irons and this book. Starting from the beginning of Faldo's book, I spent one month working on his drills inside and around my house in my spare time. I broke 100 two months later. I can't begin to explain the genius of this book, other then to say that it offers a stepwise and easy methodology to developing a reliable swing, while also offering excellant advice about bunker play, the short game, and putting. A must read for any new golfer looking to improve and to enjoy the game more.

This book far exceeded my expectations. I have read several dozen golf books, and if I had to recommend one book to a new golfer (or an experienced golfer for that matter) this would be it. This book covers all the fundamentals as well as advanced shotmaking techniques. It's beautifully written, well organized and the photography is first rate. Thanks, Nick...this is a book I'll keep coming back to again and again.

THE BEST GOLF BOOK FOR AN ADVANCED GOLFER

I am an avid golfer, one who has made golf more of a hobby than a sport. I am a 1 handicap, mostly self taught, and I enjoy learning as much as possible about the swing and how to play the game. There are few golf books which I feel worthy of recommending to anyone. I have not only recommended this book to many of my fellow golf enthusiasts, I gave the book to a young golfer who wanted to understand more the game. Faldo gives an excellent insight to many of the things he learned from David Leadbetter (another great book). The pictures give a full understanding of what he is trying to explain. Most of the drills are something everyone should try. I think the most unique part of this book is that an advanced golfer can get alot out of the book. Most golf instruction books treat the reader like a tennis player gone awry, rather than a golfer with a desire to learn more. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys golf and wants to learn more about the swing, or more about how to think your way around a golf course. Faldo has proven in his career that he attains perfection and wants to be the best. I would say he took the same attitude toward this book
