This is a wonderful bedtime story! The format is great for younger children -- simple text and sing-song rhymes on board
pages. Daisy listens to the sounds of the night, which are soothing to little ones' ears. As with all of the Daisy books,
the illustrations are beautiful.

Classic manifesto of music-inspired rebellion.

Review Date: 2007-08-06
Now in an updated edition with two dozen previously unpublished black-and-white period photographs, additional recent writings
by the author, and an introduction by Michael Simmons, Guitar Army: Rock Revolution with MC5 and the White Panther Party is
the testimony of the Detroit MC5 band manager and leftist revolutionary "White Panther Party" leader John Sinclair, originally
published in 1972. Sinclair was one of the best-known casualties of the "war on drugs", sentenced to nearly 10 years in prison
for alleged possession of two marijuana joints - his supporters believed the disproportionate sentence was a form of persecution
for his political leanings. Guitar Army collects Sinclair's writings on the street (1968-69) and in prison (1969-71) and discuss
the power of revolution, the influence of rock-n-roll as a revolutionary weapon, the history of blues, tales of injustice
and murder by the state, and much more. "Entertainment, as something you do on the weekends after slaving in the factory or
the office all week, sitting at home at night taking in all the vile pablum spewed out of the television set. Luxury. What
You Could Do Without. No sense, these people in this country have no sense of the immediacy of music, the quick feel of it,
the way it can shape your life and take your life's shape as you give yourself to it every moment of your life, as a first
term in your life." An accompanying music CD features recordings of MC5 and other revolutionary bands, enhancing this classic
manifesto of music-inspired rebellion.

Well written and an excellent story. Stephen Gifford Simmons was the youngest brother of my ancestor, William Simmons. What
a sad end to someone who didn't utilize all of the advantages he was born with. It is a testament to what alcohol can do
to anyone.

This book is a true treasure for those researching their family history and wanting to know about the history of blacks
in North Carolina from articles written by blacks. This work is a must read. It contains information detailing agricultural,
religious and education history, among other subjects. It culminates with stories about hundreds of families from North
Carolina as family members recount their history based on their memories and stories told and passed down from their ancestors.
I've recommended it to many of my family members as well as friends of all races.

Once again and with seeming effortlessness, D.N. unleashes another blockbuster hit!
This book was simply outstanding! I can't believe D.N.'s skill to be able to create action scenes this dynamic all the while breathing life into each character, old and new. This book was one long roller-coaster ride of excitement, not a dull moment to be seen.
That's one of the reasons why I love this author. Every page has something going on. Her books can't be skimmed, if you skim, I swear you're going to miss something important, sexy, funny or scary.
I loved that the villains were clever and extremely mean. I really liked learning so much more about the characters. You get to learn a lot more about all of the vampires, espeically more on John and Gary. There are a lot of layers to this story and i found myself trying to play detective trying to figure out what's going on, which was a lot of fun, because this book was so unpredictable!
There are so many shocking moments in this book, I don't want to get into them in the review, because I don't want to give anything away.
The villains in this book are lethal! They are viscous and so are the heroes of the story.
Each book gets better and better and this book didn't let me down, even after waiting for over a year to read it. And for those who were concerned about the editing. Worry no more. This book was perfect, PERFECT I tell you!
Fantastic Job D.N.! You are worthy of being my favorite author! Keep em coming!

"Hyperion" cycle is a quartet divided in two halves that shares the same universe. This book starts the first part.
Even if "Hyperion" has all the in and outs of a classical Sci-Fi novel, is much more than that.
Is the story of seven pilgrims trying to arrive to a particular shrine in a journey full of dangers, but at the same time is the life story of each one of them.
These personal recounts dig deep into essential human questions.
Religious faith and on what basis is sustained, is investigate from different stand points. One from a Catholic priest view point, in the verge of loosing his faith, the other one from a Jew intellectual confronted with God commandment to sacrifice his daughter (I found in this episode some resonance of Kierkegaard's meditations in "Fear & Trembling").
Just these two stories will be reason enough to recommend the book, but there is a lot more, much more to enjoy.
A decadent poet tells his life and struggle to find his muse at whatever cost.
A detective's story mixed with John Keats restored to life.
All this elements skillfully mixed in a page-turner Sci-Fi adventure.
One of the best novels I ever read.

Instead of buying a paperback copy of Hyperion, I bought the "Hyperion Cantos". It is a nice hardcover collection of Hyperion
and The Fall of Hyperion. I'm still reading through Hyperion right now (about halfway through it), and it is pretty incredible.
It is such a powerful science-fiction epic that is definitely worth buying. "Hyperion Cantos" might be hard to find, but if
you can get it at a good price I think you should buy it instead of having to buy the books separately. I don't really like
the cover though, looks a bit cheesy.

Fabulous novel. One even the literary snob types might like, given the structure and all the Keats work.
The novel has a Canterbury Tales type feel, as a group of men and women travelling to the important planet Hyperion tell their stories.
Travel is instantaneous throughout the galaxy thanks to the TechnoCore, an AI group and their farcaster technology. People can literally have different rooms of their houses on different planets.
Hyperion is the site of the Time Tombs, an artifact travelling back in time, sent by an unknown entity.
The planet will be the site of an attack by a rogue group of far travelling humanity called the Ousters, upon the stay at homes, unflatteringly terming themselves the Hegemony.
The travelling band must also deal with The Shrike, a monstrous avatar of pain.
5 out of 5
Omnibus type edition from a book club, containing Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion.
A more convetional story structure is to be found here, as the pilgrims try and deal with an invasion, a Hegemony political leader, and an android avatar reincarnation of Keats.
They discover that the TechnoCore itself is fighting its own battles, and the spillover affects them in a very serious way.
Oh, and throw in some highly entertaining Catholic satire, to boot.
