Jory Sherman has again written a great book. As you read you can feel the thought and action of these men. You can close your eyes and see the mountains and the land around them. Sherman takes Lemuel and Morgan Hawke through much danger. He uses the mountain men that have been there before to lead and direct them. He also brings in different Indian tribes, some to help them and some to do battle with them. Really hope there is a sequel to this book. It is a great book for anyone that likes books about mountain men, indians and the lives they lived in the Rocky Mountains.

I used this book to identify all the trees in our neighborhood and it was very easy to use. It also gave me some good ideas on what trees to plant in my own yard. I take the guide with me on hikes now and impress my friends with my new found knowledge!

World's Finest Foul Ups!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-04
This collection has some of the greatest Trickster figures from Africa, Europe, North and South America, Asia, and some that have traveled. You will find out why Anansi owns all the stories, how Raven brought light to the world, why it is not wise for a caliph to pester a peasent while eating, and how one could paint a person exactly as they are without getting in trouble. It is a delight for me to read such stories, I am a long-time Trickster fan and it was fun reading about characters I knew well like Anansi, Coyote, and Raven and getting to know their bretheren that I didn't know as well such as Tyl Eulenspiegal, Pedro, and Tortoise. The stories are short about two to five pages, which make them ideal for oral telling (and a lot of fun!) Not to many stories featuring the lady tricksters, but this is definately a fun book that should be treasured and enjoyed by all! :D A True Trickster Trove of Treasures! :D

Absolutely a stand alone book or to compliment the collection. This one is worth every penny!! Super collectors value also as there are only 1500 in print at the time of publication.

I purchased this book for one recipe- the Lentil Lemon Soup. It was so good, I tried the Spaghetti Squash Soup, Rose-colored Cauliflower Soup, Asparagus Cheddar Cheese Soup, Chicken Gumbo...! All the recipes I tried are wonderful and can be whipped up in time for supper or lunch- no all day simmering!

130 profiles including full page portraits of extraordinary lesbian and gay people.
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-12
This collection illuminates the accomplishments of gays and lesbians and the gay and lesbian community.

Profiled are actors, athletes, writers, journalists, filmmakers, photographers, ex-priests, psychotherapists, corporate attorneys, activists, poets, philosophers, artists, entertainers and members of the US Congress.

Many of the names in this volume were not well known to me which made it doubly appealing. The inclusion of others more famous, such as the artist/author/poet Tee A. Corinne, affirmed the validity of the book's content.

Preface by Jeanne Manford, the founder of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) and introduction by editor Phillip Sherman.

Book Description - This photo-essay celebration of extraordinary Gay and Lesbian Americans isn't just about celebs like Martina and Ellen. It also follows the lives of ordinary GLBT people who do extraordinary things.

An excellent book on Union Pacific golden age steam.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2001-02-06
This is a great book if you're a steam fan. It's covers all types of motive power used by Union Pacific during the late 40s and 50s, 4-8-8-4 Big Boys, Challengers, Northerns and so on. All the photos are black and white, but are high quality with detailed captions and chapter descriptions. This book would also be useful for anyone interested in modeling a railroad around this area or for UP steam in general. Another high-quality book from Kalmbach Publishing.
