This is the first novel by Jory Sherman that I've read. I found it a great read and everything I hoped to find in a good Old West Western.Sherman is a highly talented writer who crafts a great, engrossing story; that is filled with fast action, interesting characters, lots of very good western verbage and expressions. He gives a good ,well thought out story and doesn't revert to digressions to fill the pages.
In this story, we meet John Savage, who has seen his parents murdered by a scum of the earth ,Ollie Hobart.Savage has decided that he will hunt this murder to the end of the earth,if necessary,to bring him to the justice he deserves. The story has a lot of characters, both good and unsavory, but the author introduces them with precision, and it is not too difficult to keep them all sorted out. While Savage is determined to hunt down Hobart,he is led over a long trail, but in the end,Hobart finally comes to him.
Sherman is a master of descriptive writing as evidenced by many lines like these;
"All dead?" Ben sniffed, feeling his own throat tighten up as if it had been suddenly encased in a vise made of the coldest iron.
"Yeah."
"It's like looking at eternity, ain't it,John? Like starin' down into a bottomless well."
"I don't know what you mean,Ben."
"They've gone on from this place. God only knows where they are now. But,wherever they be, it's for the rest of eternity."
Or;
"Kerrigan ate the lead as it smashed through his teeth and into his mouth.Shards of teeth crumbled from his lips. The ball slammed into his spine at the back of his throat. There was an ugly smacking sound, the sound of bone breaking. He stiffened. His hand went slack and the pistol hung there, half out of his holster. His eyes glazed over with the final frost of death, fixed on a point just above John's head, and stared lifeless into eternity."
Stranger,you don't think long on a thing,do you?"Bender said.
"I gave him fair warning,"John said.

Excellent text but $106 for a text for educators is obscene.

This is an excellent text -- my favorite. I have used it with my graduate class in educational sociology a number of times.
However, I refuse to use a text that costs $106 and hope that MacMillian will consider a soft side edition.

This is a great read for former Marines, current Marines and Marine wanna-bes. In fact, just about everyone will enjoy this
book! Funny, sometimes poignant, story of young men coming of age and finding a sense of pride. The stories reminded me
of Sgt Bilco, Stripes, and other military comedies - this would be a good movie! Share this with your friends and family.

Needs to be read by every Jew

This book really does a lot and goes a long way in breaking down various issues that exist in Jewish communities worldwide.
The topic of how Sephardim responded to modernity is a topic that is timely and needed in this current time where non-Ashkeanzi
history is but a stub in many areas of Jewish education, especially in the religious world.
This book essentially talks about how historically Sephardic Jews from southern Europe, North Africa and Jews of the Middle East have handled changes in society. It deals with the issue from the correct angle for the Sepphardic and Mizrahi communities in a way that doesn't separate religion from the culture. For example even secular Sephardic Jews interact with the religious elements of their culture. It also discusses the differences between Sephardic leadership and Ashkenazi leadership in this area of dealing with change in culture and society.
The book is a short read (86 pages of text), but it is an important educational tool that is needed in both the Ashkenazi and Sephardi communities. I believe that this is the kind of book that NEEDS to be an essential part of Jewish education. As a Sephardi Jew I feel this books helps me understand the positives and the issues in my own culture and understanding these things helps in determining what I should do for children I will have in the future in order for them to be proud of their culture.

Great resource! I've used it dozens upon dozens of times to help church groups think thru their motivations for working with
the poor in our community. I direct a not-for-profit that works with low-income kids and families--it's been a helpful guide
for us.

The seventh collection of a truly original comic strip. Imagine a Great White shark and his mate paling around with an erudite
sea turtle, a cranky hermit crab, various fish and even a tropical polar bear. All this takes place in a small lagoon on
a tropical island. An unusual cast and setting, but it works (I am convinced that it helped to inspire Disney's Finding Nemo).
In this new volume we encounter such story arcs as:
Sherman becomes a cartoonist
The Lagoon Tribune
An underwater Renaissance
fair
Hawthorne's Coffee Shop
Fillmore Reads every book in existence
A NYC sewer alligator visits the lagoon
Megan's
cable cooking show
Lots of laughs from this wonderful cast of characters. Check out the earlier volumes as well.

The 13th Sherman's Lagoon collection by Jim Toomey, SHARKS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN is an outstanding winner, joining others in
the syndicated strip's growing library and providing especially winning and valuable to any area devoid of regular Sherman
comics. A year in the life of a great white shark and his lagoon friends receives black and white and a few color embellishments
in one of the funniest comics ever drawn: a top pick for any collection serious about representing syndicated comics and top-notch
productions.

I have always had an interest in the M4 Sherman dating back to my pre-teens. From building motorized models of M4's to reading
reference material. This text was very informative in terms of history, operational details, and technical upgrades.

This is a magnificent song book for anyone who loves Disney or Sherman Brothers music. They wrote the songs for MARY POPPINS,
CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANK, JUNGLE BOOK, THE ARISTOCATS, CHARLOTTE'S WEB and THE SLIPPER AND THE ROSE. Nine of their songs
were nominated for Oscars. Twice they won an Oscar. They're just the greatest. I love this song book and play the music
in it all the time with my kids. Some of their other great songs which are included here are "It's A Small World", "Feed
The Birds", Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious", Winnie The Pooh", "You're Sixteen" and "Tall Paul". These brother songwriters
are the greatest. I loved "Walt's Time" too!
