I read both at the same time (The Godfather & Mile High). I passed the Godfather one along at that time. It got all the press.
Yet many, many years later this is the one that sticks to my gut. It hits hard at the truth -in fiction form. Because, quite
frankly, thats the only way it could be told. Nothing has changed. A Must Read.

Richard Condon's "Mile High" is one of the smartest, most exciting thrillers in the entire canon of American popular fiction.
It was published the same year as Mario Puzo's "The Godfather." Both books feature a mafia leader known as Don Vito (interestingly,
each book also has a minor character named Coppolla). There are numerous similarities between Puzo's book and Condon's, but
Condon's is definitely the more intelligent and ambitious of the two. The story hits upon many of the highlights (or, perhaps,
lowlights) of American history: slavery, Prohibition, the Great Depression, McCarthyism, etc. The book starts out like a runaway
train, and concludes with one of the most gripping showdowns in print. There is about a 100-page stretch early in the book
where Condon slows his plot down with excessive detail about the family business that is at the core of this superthriller.
But from about page 200 onward, the novel is as inescapable as car careening through the loops and lifts of really devious
roller-coaster.

A great story about a woman making her dreams come true. Her journey is exciting and funny. A true inspiration to many who
would like to add a little adventure to their lives. A wonderfully written book for sailors and non-sailors alike.

Listen to a real cool person tell you all the best parts of a great adventure.
Sharon is my mom, and a very interessstttting person. Dad is a great guy and our favorite curmudgeon.
This book started out as a handwritten journal, mailed home from some really far out places around the world. It is now a well-polished book full of laugh-out-loud silliness and high adventure.
My favorite story is about the raft of "refugees" on the Indian Ocean. Read this book and see if you agree. :)

Tiffany Sterns, one of the great young Shakespeare scholars and researchers

An important part of appreciating (and teaching) plays from the Renaissance period involves understanding the relationship
between the poet and the acting company, and the extent to which rehearsal practices of the period placed a large burden on
the poet to include acting instructions within the play's text.
Drawing clues from a broad array of sources, Professor Stern provides a detailed look at rehearsal practices from the late sixteenth century and onward.
Especially as regards Shakespeare, understanding the very limited rehearsal time, especially when compared to modern day practices, employed by companies that put on essentially a different play every afternoon, offers a valuable new insight into the importance of rhetorical and metrical structure as well as many kinds of imbedded stage directions.

Tiffany Stern's groundbreaking book will revolutionise your view of Shakespeare in a fascinating discussion of day to day
life in the theatre. Read how actors had copies only of their own parts - many didn't know the story of the whole play until
performance. Learn about ad libbing clowns and heroines who fall in love, literally, on cue. The Shakespearean sections combine
ingenious archival research (from coal bills to prompt books) with sensitive textual analysis. The Restoration and seventeenth
century sections are alive with comic anecdote and original insight, not to mention Garrick's mechanical wig. This book will
change your perceptions of drama in the past, but will also raise questions about theatrical practice today. Invaluable to
all who love the theatre.

Captain Tew has written an engaging account of his salvage experiences in Asia.. Mostly dealing with strandings, tows, and
fires, he describes the challenges of modern salvage in a style appealing to both the layman and the professional. The book
has many good color photographs, maps and a few diagrams, and is a valuable contribution to the genre. As a former salvage
diver who has read most books on the subject, it's a better book than I expected!

Captain Tew spins an entertaining and technically fascinating tale describing some of his adventures as a salvage captain.
I had a chance to meet him on holiday in Curacao, and the joy is that he puts into his writing the same story-telling skill
he presents in person! Add the many photos in this book, and it makes for an entralling read. I gave several copies of this
book as Christmas gifts, and got very positive feedback from my friends. I bought Captain Tew's other book, "Sailing in Grandfather's
Wake", a description of his sail around the world in a small boat, and found it to also be interesting and fun to read.

I loved this series as well as many others. I've read all 5. This book is about Nikki having her 18th birthday. Her 18th birthday
is suppose to be wonderful. But everything goes wrong. Keesha has a major crush with someone she met on-line. She meets him.
He has a friend and she's trying to get Nikki to go meet him with her. But Nikki keeps on hearing warning bells. Jeff is
also back from orintation at UM. Nikki wants to try and get him to like her again. But when she meets Jeff's new girlfriend
she feels that her world will never go back to what it use to be. Her mom also comes up for her birthday but without her
dad. Her mom won't talk about why he didn't come up. But finally after a few days she tells her. Nikki is just terrified.
Her dad calls her once and she finds out there's another woman involoved. This book keeps you guessing and shows you how
Nikki stayed with it. She kept on trusting God.

The 'theory of knots' places knots in a logical context so lucid that instead of using one routine method of making a bowline,
atleast four alternatives are easily executed! Why is this important? When thrown a line while boating sometimes you have
it in the right hand and sometimes in the left, sometimes the tension is in front sometimes below, etc. Knowing the logic
and you get the right knot everytime.

This is a truely superb knot book, that re-writes the rules, with the theory to back it up. The diagrams are clear and consise,
and Dr Ashers way of explaining the reasoning behind the use of a given knot is simply enchanting to read. The only problem
- getting hold of a copy of the book !!!

Two stories in this book--Broadway Storekeeper and Tummler--are among the best pieces of reportage I have ever read. They
offer everything modern journalism lacks--taste, gentle humor, appreciation instead of scorn for the unusual, and a broad,
affectionate view of the world. The whole book is a pleasure, but these two stories should be in every anthology of American
reporting. Liebling was one of a kind.

This is an excellent book for the beginner or first time model ship builder. It contains detail plans with dimensioned drawings
for two simple projects. It contains step-by-step instructions to ensure the beginner will be successful with their first
project. The second project provides directions for making a modern sloop rig. Many sailors may be interested in how to
model their own boat or a friend's boat.
