Shepard Books

Three stars seems a little low for this book in some ways, but four is a little high. So I'm really giving it 3 and a half. It's a good solid read but with a few plot holes. The pacing is excellent and the action is told well. I didn't care much for the woman character but, on the other hand, she was more original than the standard "good woman" type that you see in a lot of westerns. The most interesting character to me was King Fisher himself, who was a secondary character. I'd love to see HIS story.

I wouldn't have read this book if it hadn't been required for my degree. It didn't do much for me. It did have one thing I found interesting which is a method of calculating a child's dosage.

Beyond that I didn't dog ear a single page, which is one of my ways of telling how valuable a book is. The dog ears are pages I want to be able to find quickly, without rereading the entire book. I seriously doubt I'll be rereading this one.

It a description of less than 100 herbs, with the parts used, where they are found in the United States, time of day to collect them, and the time of year to collect them. He also explains how to prepare them after you have collected them.

If you plan on growing your own herbs, or gathering them in the wild, then you'll probably really like this book. If you plan on purchasing your herbs, you may find this a little dry.

Anyone that loves tall tales will enjoy this book.

This party book gave me some ideas for party games etc. for my child's birthday party. It has suggestions for several different types of parties that I will have to work on in the future just for fun not for a birthday.

Alcock writes about a troubled boy who always runs away from his problem. This boy's name is Westy, he lives in Chicago.

He makes the wrong move! He took the grocers money and ran away. He took it to far this time. Now the truant officer found him. To see what interesting thing that happens to Westy next you are going to read..... Run, Westy, Run

The book held plenty of information, and is therefor quite useful. However, it could have been written in a somewhat easier to digest way.

The author has obviously done his homework, as this is a truly massive compendium of legal information. The characterizations and style read like a novel, sometimes you get so wrapped up in this book that you forget its a research tool. There are places I could not put it down.

With that being said, [it] is a lot to spend for this book. That is why I rate it 3 stars instead of 4 or 5. If you are not made of money, I suggest you check this baby out at your local law library. I am glad I read this book, but wish I could have done it for free!

The only problem I find in this book is that the outlined information is too broad and defined topics are obscure. Also, the online addition is hard to set up and computer illiterate people may find it impossible.

the story was fine, but not "magical" and the illustrations were cute. If your child was anticipating a baby brother or sister, it might resonate a little more with your family. My daughter did listen while I read this to her, but it wasn't one she asked me to read over and over. And although I wouldn't classify this as one of my "must-haves", it was a fine book, and certainly a lot more readable than others I have encountered.

This sequel to the excellent The 13th Is Magic is far below the original.
