You can lose the drama and still have fun!Review Date: 2008-09-27
I had the pleasure of meeting Kathy personnally. She has a wonderful, engaging personality and even though she is a former drama queen, she still has a spunky aliveness that makes you want to around her.
I am in the process of recovery myself and am rereading this book. It is a good first book, with a subject a lot of us can relate too.
I am looking forward to more from her.

As with all books that prognosticate horrific implications for the near (or far) future, one must take such theses with a grain of salt... human ingenuity (or high property values) can adapt to changed circumstances, whatever they may be.

An overlooked beautyReview Date: 2005-03-22
As with many children's books, however, the real value is in the exquisite pictures. Reminiscent of vintage book illustrations and the art of the likes of Jessie Wilcox Smith, Claire Fletcher has beautifully created unusual images in calm but colorful paintings that spark the imagination.
Although the language of The Seashell Song is a bit advanced (words like "brilliance," "swarthy," "minarets," and "bewitched" are not usually found in books recommended for baby to preschool aged) it is a wonderful book to share with a child to engender a love of beauty both in sound and vision. Any adult who appreciates the beauty of the art of children's books will also find this book to be an extra-special treat.

The Boys Who Solved a BurglaryReview Date: 2003-02-13
I liked this book because it kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put the book down until I finished the book. It had clues that would just jump out at you and you had to get them or you didn't know what was going on in the story. I also liked this book because the two boys didn't give up on trying to solve the mystery. I give them credit because they kept on going out on their canoe. They didn't stop going on the lake even though the men were out there and trying to scare them away.

Mr. Shepard explains that "The 'Velt" is from an unfinished novel and it has the definite feeling of a being a fragment. Despite not being a truly complete story, it's still worth reading and left me hoping the novel will eventually see the light of day.
