I bought this without really taking notice and when I opened it up - WOW - it is just gorgeous; the 100 Acre Wood just POPS out at you in full color and in the classic Milne style. This is really not a book but a stage with paper dolls to play out your favorite Pooh stories. I bought this for my girls, but I adore Winnie the Pooh (esp. Classic Pooh) and I think I am going to buy one for myself! This book is truly an heirloom treasure for Pooh fans and I highly recommend that you endulge yourself with this rare find!

Wondeful, Diminutive Set

This is a precious set of 4 tiny Pooh books (Pooh Hears a Buzzing Noise; Pooh Goes Visiting; Pooh and Piglet Go Hunting; Eeyore Loses a Tail), 2 1/5 X 3 3/4 inches, in a small paper box decorated with E. H. Shepard illustration. Though the books are small, the Shepard illustrations and printing are regular-sized, making them diminutive but not annoyingly so. I have had mine since Christmas 1977 and they are still in the little box, and though the box and books show signs of wear, this is a treasured family memento.

Great bankruptcy law resource

Review Date: 2007-09-13
This book is a terrific resource for new and seasoned bankruptcy professionals alike. In fact, I re-read frequently even after 18 years in this specialty. The first third of the book is an excellent, readable treatise on bankruptcy procedure and it explains well some of the most difficult and arcane (but important) areas of bankruptcy law, such as jurisdiction, venue and appeal. The remaining two-thirds consists of an appendix devoted to the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure and local bankruptcy rules of various jurisdictions. I note that the book was published in 1993 and there doesn't seem to be an update. If this is correct, proceed with this section very carefully since many Federal and local rules have been amended.

How to find a wife? Cut down and tree and go where it points
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2004-03-03
"The Princess Mouse: A Tale of Finland" begins with a simple premise, which is that in Mikko's family when young men get to the age when it is time for them to marry they find their future brides by cutting down a tree and following it points. It so happens that in this particular farm family the two sons are old enough to marry so the father instructs them to follow the family tradition, declaring, "That's how we've done it, and that's how we always well." The older son knows exactly who he wants to marry and cuts down the true so that it points right to her door, but when the younger son, Mikko, cuts down his tree it points into the deep forest. His brother mocks him, wondering if Mikko's sweetheart will be a wolf or a fox. But Mikko walks off into the forest declaring "I'll find who I find."

What Mikko finds is a mouse who is more than happy to be his sweetheart. Strangely enough, Mikko agrees and returns home to tell his father he has found a sweetheart. The tale now becomes interesting because Mikko's father has arranged a series of tests for the sweethearts of his two sons to take to prove their worth (do not ask why, you know what the father will say). From the title of the this story being told by Aaron Shepard you can probably guess how it is going to turn out in the end, but that does not distract all that much from the charm of this tale which is illustrated by Leonid Gore. You have many of the traditional elements of such folktales, but there are some nice unexpected twists that will delight readers of all ages.

Shepherd based his retelling of this tale mostly on story of "The Forest Bride," which I actually prefer as a title, but also on the story of "The Mouse Bride." In the back of the book you will find the simple music for "The Song of the Princess Mouse," written by Shepard. In fact, if you visit Shepard's homepage you can find not only a recording of the tune for this song but a reader's theater script along with another test of the brothers' sweethearts. So there are some nice resources to go with this folktale for teachers to use. Shepard has authored other folktales, including "The Maiden of Northland: A Hero Tale of Finland."

The book is an invaluable resource for quick reference regarding how equipment defects, product safety, and product liability all relate to one another. The information on insurance companies and references to court cases is also very helpful.

This book got the Wright Brothers and many others started
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 1998-07-24
This book gives an historical review of the effects and experiments of inventors to accomplish flight with apparatus, which by reason of its rapid movement will be supported by the air as birds are. The author has gathered all the records of such experiments which were accessible, and has endeavored to show the reasons for their failure and to explain the principles which govern flight, and to satisfy himself and his readers, whether we may reasonably hope eventually to fly through the air. His conclusion is that this question may now be answered in the affirmative. A full account is given of the recent experiments of scientists like Maxim, Lilienthal, Hargraves and Langley, which have so greatly added to our knowledge on this subject. The book contains over 300 pages and is illustrated by nearly 100 engravings. It is written in a style which will be read with as much interest by the general as by the non-technical reader. A Quiet Strength Roars with Astute Wisdom
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.

Of all of the meditation books specifically for men, and there really are a number of them, A Quiet Strength is by far my favorite! While it has an issue and meditation for each of the 366 days, I prefer to look up an issue I am dealing with in the index and, every time, I get very pertinent advice. Now and then I leaf quickly through the pages, stopping abruptly and read the section I have stopped on. It always seems to be very pertinent to what is happening in my life at the time. This is well worth the time to search for a copy and encourage (them) to reprint. Your life and those around you will be much the better for it....

If you fish for trout, using a fly floating on top of the water, you will love this book.
If you're not a dry fly fisherman, you might just become one after reading this book.

Buried Child Un-buried!

Review Date: 2003-05-24
This .pdf pamphlet is essential to understanding Shephard's 1979 Pulitzer award winning play. But DON'T read this until AFTER you have seen or read this tough play. I had thought that most of the characters might have been ghosts, none real except for Shelly and Vince - a couple stepping back in time into a fractured family's home. This short book completely explains each character and symbol. Just wonderful. BHH.
