Shepard Books

I have just finished reading 'Colonel Rutherford's Colt' in the e-book format (it's been available for months) and have ordered a copy of this book in the signed limited HB edition (newly released) for my library... Lucius Shepard has always been one of the greatest American sci-fi/fantasy/horror genre writers, but he seems to have become an even more formidable mainstream writer. (By calling Lucius mainstream, I simply mean than the fantasy elements in his writing, though they still exist, are less overt now than in the past). Fans of Lucius' older work should rest assured that 'Colonel Rutherford' is populated by the same type of underworld-connected lowlifes that appear in his previous stories, but now these characters are reaching a much higher level of credibility. In 'Col. Ruth.' we follow a used gun dealer named Jimmy, who specializes in selling weapons once used in famous crimes, around to various swap meets where he and his girlfriend rub up against other gun dealers and customers, and in particular one gun (a Colt once owned by a deceased racist militia leader) that must not fall into the wrong hands... You will continue to think about these characters long after you have finished reading and the plot has the kind of subtle, creepy twists and surprise ending that will have you rereading the book to look for clues. A great story...

I have been looking for a book like this for years. I love to monogram vintage linens to give as gifts...esp. wedding presents. This book offers the most wonderful variety and clarity! Throw out all the others, THIS is the book to have.

This was my very first book cover 10 years ago. Today the book roles are reversed. I'm the single parent not the kid! I still love to go to the library to see the book on the shelf and my 6 yr old loves when I read him "Mommy's Book". Mark is a wonderful author and he did a beautiful job. This is a wholesome, genuine, down to earth great pre-teen book. A must for all aspiring young actors/actresses.

This book is so good because it gives hope to the people who never thought there was hope. Or proves that an ordinary girl can become whatever she likes.

Dare to indulge a few hours with Laura Shepard Townsend's book and you will be rewarded with a world of inspiration, like playing inside the colors, patterns and textures of a rich Vuillard painting.
Starting on a night of lion stealing, this tale accelerates into the sunny world of color and spice, wisdom, play and inspiration. I wanted to put on layers and layers of patterned skirts, scarves and jewelry; let my hair go wild and join these Gypsy women in their lives lived with an acute sense of truth. Townsend's women are wild and free and stunningly authentic; born in her soul; grown up in her playful imagination; nurtured by her loving wisdom. She has released them for our delight. This book is a gift and a fine adventure.

Finally another book from William Shepard. I was not disappointed in this entertaining two part book. The first part is the real behind the scenes scoop on the dipomatic world. Then we get treated to another part of fiction about the diplomatic world. I wonder how much of it is actually fiction but not real stories made into fiction to protect the "not so innocent." I loved this book and like any great book was sorry when it ended.
I am hoping that we will be not have to wait much longer for another Robbie Cutler adventure.

Dorrie is the greatest picture book character ever. For nearly 30 years I've been checking the same copies of the Dorrie books out from my local library - and they're wonderful evry time. WHY ARE THEY MOSTLY OUT OF PRINT!!!???

This is simply the best collection of classic vampire series I have ever found. It has everything you can ask for: Beatiful romantic writing from the gothic era, Classic Vapire Stories, Angst, Homo-eroticism (back when it was taboo).

These stories are just great stories meant to catch the imagination without the tired angst and weary anger of anything written in the last 100 years. The vampires in these stories are not self-conscious consumers of pop culture, but damned souls doomed to a horrific existance, and still they remain romantic ideals.

I have had to purchse this book four times because every time I lend it out I can't pry it out of the hands of whomever I lent it to.

After borrowing this book from our local library each Spring, I decided The Easter Book is a keeper and needed to be added to our personal library. The poetry is marvelous, capturing the essence of the season perfectly.

My daughter Niamh (age 3) and I love sitting down to Eddie and His Teddy's adventures. All of the series have a fantastic rhyme which makes it as interesting for me as it is for Niamh. The story is as exiciting or as "settling" as the intonation of the reader so is suitable for bed time reading or sofa capers!!
