It's always great to play good songs like those on the piano or guitar! Vonda's songs are so good and it's hard to define how great it is to play them! Read Your Mind, 100 Tears Away, This is Crazy Now, Baby... make me want to learn more and more songs from that wonderful songwriter! :) Enjoy playing her songs!

Great music for any age

Found this book at a Nevada Book Fair ... It's great ...

I recently attended a Book Fair in Nevada where I had the opportunity to present my own TOONIES book to a new group of readers. When I left my table to browse through the bins of children's books, I came across this book.

Since I not only love to read and to write kids books, I also love the beach, so the cover of Hide and Seek Fog caught my eye right away. The kids in the fog made me think of when I lived in Capitola-by-the-Sea in Central California. Nostalgic feeling.

The effects of fog on our lives (especially the lives of people who live near water) are explained in wonderful words and illustrations. As the author goes along in the story, the illustrations lighten along with the fog ... sunshine prevails in the end ... which always makes kids feel good.

This is a great book to read aloud to your child. It may be an oldie, but it's a goodie, as a wise woman once said. I know your kids and/or grandkiddies will love it.

This is one of our family's favorite books!

I admit, when we were first given this book by friends at a local library, I didn't get the point. The pictures appeared unattractive and when I read the book silently it was unappealing. I am very glad that it became one of the children's read-aloud choices right away. This book is wonderful. Yes, it is about fog, and could very adequately be used in a unit study about the weather. That, though, really isn't its appeal.

It is the story of fog and the effect it has on the plans of some fishermen, some fathers, and some vacationing children. The pictures are wonderful! They easily convey the feeling of chilly, damp weather -- imposing a strange feeling of melancholy to the reader. But as the story evolves, the plot lightens with the fog, and the pictures eventually brighten to conclude a story about disappointment and interrupted plans.

It is a nice read-aloud and inspires questions and conversation throughout the reading. Our copy is now missing some pages. An order is in for a replacement. This book is a treasure and well worth uncovering.

A touching audio-experience.

Peter Dennis has the great gift of a fantastic voice, a superb understanding of the text and a real sense for Alexander Milne's fine humor. He definitely brings back childhood memories of the older kids and surely contributes to new ones.

I had received the original version of "The House At Pooh Corner" as a birthday present from an English family across the road. "We" were four at that time and - being German speaking - not really capable of understanding a single word. Every evening I would press my mother to translate, because I loved this book so much.

Now "we" are fourty something and pretty capable of reading and writing English texts. Nonetheless, I once in a while endulge myself by playing Peter Dennis' tapes of "The House at Pooh Corner" and "Now We Are Six". They are my favorites. Peter Dennis' recordings of these books are a most delightful audio-experiences for kids of all ages.

Unquestionably the finest recording of Winnie the Pooh!

We love listening to this sensitive and lyrical recording of Winnie the Pooh stories. This is the way I always heard it in my head when I was a child (40 years ago) and my 10 year old son has insisted on falling asleep to the voice of Peter Dennis and his deft characterizations of Pooh & Company virtually every night for more than four years. If you love these recordings, you'll also want to listen to Christopher Timothy reading James Herriot's All Creatures Great & Small.

This story is a kind of Cinderella story. Bangwell is a doll on lone to a museum. While at this museum she is taken to a ball by a solder. I loved this story as a child - it is filled with creatures that lived on things in the museum and the text isn't in a boring line on the page, but squiggles and flows about; giving the feeling of movement to reader. I also loved the watercolor illustration! My copy is quite worn and tattered and loved.

An interesting side note: now that I'm an adult I work in an art museum and we are hoping to receive a collection of rare old dolls. I can't help but think of Bangwell's adventure and smile as I do the paperwork for the donation.

This Book is a Treasure!

The story and pictures are as simply and fancifully fashioned as Bangwell Putt herself. This is a classic and ought to be reprinted for a new generation!

The Most Informative Work on Unicorns I've Seen

Lore of the Unicorn isn't for everyone; it's long-winded, bland, and complicated. But if you want to learn about unicorns, this is the book to get. It is extremely in-depth and detailed, covering unicorns as they evolved through time and culture. Shepard speculates on possible connections between various myths and the environment/culture they came from. Extremely interesting if you're obsessed with unicorns and don't mind reading dry material.

A fantastic (literally) piece of amazing erudition

Think the title of my review sounds a bit lofty? Wait till you read this book. It is absolutely amazing, the degree to which Sheperd's reading has gone-- an inexhaustible source list in at least ten different languages spanning centuries, all in an attempt to document the myth of the unicorn. Fuzzy fantasy novel fans beware, this is not a book up your alley! And if you aren't really interested in medieval thought and language, it's not up your alley either. However, if cultural studies, intellectual history and comparative mythology strike your fancy, read on.

I give this book my heartiest recommendation. It is 73 years old and represents a very well-read man's excursion into whimsy-- dabbling in an interest, a break from the scholarly routine, ascribe whatever motive you want-- but I promise that it is deeply absorbing, enlightening and marvelously arcane.

I loved this book as a child (I'm now 32) and still read it to my children. I think the fact that it is so "just" in giving to the poor and taking from the rich, it pleases me in a profound way. It's definitely a fable and the moral to the story is that you will get yours if you don't give a helping hand! I don't know why I still remember this book that is obviously not in print anymore.

This is a really well-done pop-up book. I bought this as a gift for my wife (a Pooh fan), who is notoriously difficult to please, and this was one of the few gifts I've found which distinctly charmed and impressed her. Kids may enjoy it as well :)

Unique Approach to both Winnie the Pooh and Pop-ups.

Review Date: 2003-12-12
This is a new approach to a traditional story. Your basic vignettes for Winnie-the-Pooh are there in a scruptuous 3D layout [more than pops up it has some interactive tabs as well]. At its furthest reaches, it lays out width wise to about 4 1/2ft - not a page turning book. Each of the seperate scenes are then brought up and/or down [either all at once or one at a time, your preference]...three are in the trees to the ground so are a good height as well. One includes Tigger being pulled up and down the tree and another has Eyeore floating down the river whilst Christopher Robin and Pooh are playing Pooh Sticks.

Each of the sections has a pull down section of story that can't be pulled out. It is an all around, lay down, 3 people play at once view of a fantasic story. Perfect for pop-up enthusiasts, Pooh lovers, or for a [Grand]parent and [Grand]child to play with.

it is a good book and for its size, 30 something pages of actual content, it is very enlightening and contains surprising amount of information in its small size. it is a must read for any and all Gandhi followers, critics, or anyone looking for information about his non-violent ways.

Insightful and Enlightening

This is a short but powerful story that clears the air of many common misconceptions surrounding Mahatma Gandhi and Satyagraha. Even if you have done some prior study as I have about Gandhi, this book will still clarify many major areas of his work and give some insight into his own actions and works which seemingly run counter to his own professions of ideology. The mysteries are revealed in this jewel of a book.

This is a simple, endearing book for anyone who values family. It is the story of the legacy that can be created by two caring and loving parents. I am buying this for my mother-in-law who definitly is creating a similar legacy for her family.

My 4 year old daughter loves this book, not only because her sister's name is Maisy, but because it is a sweet story of tradition and family. It is very friendly and engaging. The lesson of aging and seasons and the circle of life is great.
