This book reads smoothly and the illustrations are beautiful. The illustrations add to the text. They are riveting. As I read this story, I felt as if I was "Anna" as she travelled through her journey. The author note at the end was beneficial and children have the opportunity to locate additional information on Anna Howard Shaw.
Anna, the protagonist empowers children to feel they can make a difference in our country.

A beautifully done book. The pictures are adorable and the story of animals in the forest waking up is done with a repeating meter the children will quickly pick up on. I teach pre-school and bought this book for my preschool children. It is sure to become a firm favourite.

Walking on the Waves is a rich, compelling presentation of many key scenes in Jesus' ministry. From the opening chapter, the book draws the reader into many of the familiar stories of Jesus' life and allows us to see these happenings for ourselves 'up close and personal.' I particularly enjoyed the author's insertion of his own fictional actors into the scene. Each character then interprets what's taking place through their own experience or philosophical outlook. Through this mechanism, the author is able to compare and contrast many of today's modern schools of thought against what Jesus represents in his life and teachings. This book is a joy to read while at the same time it will make you think. Take my advice, read this one slowly and savor it. There's enough here that you'll want to re-read it once you finish. It's impossible to read this book and not come out with a fresh new appreciation for the incredible richness of who Jesus is and what he represents for today's post-modern world.

Fascinating! The people behind the diplomatic headlines.

I've enjoyed this book a great deal! Shaw offers highly informative yet very readable profiles of key individuals in the realm of international relations, such Senator Joseph Biden, Senator Richard Lugar, Henry Kissinger, Richard Holbrooke, and many others. Equally interesting are profiles of less well-known individuals, such as historian David Fromkin and human rights activist Diane Orentlicher. Since each profile is limited to about 5 pages, one is able to quickly gain insight into many of the individuals who are at the center of the key diplomatic decisions that are making headlines today. One begins to get a real sense of how the world of Washington diplomacy functions.

In addition, some of the issues raised in pre-9/11 interviews conducted by Shaw are truly fascinating in light of current events. One example of this is the insistence of former UNSCOM chairman Richard Butler, in a December 2000 profile, that the UN Security Council must address its lingering internal divisions and compel Iraq to comply with existing UN Resolutions on disarmament. Another example, on perhaps the other end of the ideological scale, is Shaw's February 2001 profile of peace activist Jonathan Schell, in which Schell argues that even in the post-Cold War environment, the mere existence of nuclear weapons poses a tremendous risk and these weapons should be eliminated.

The collaboration of author Barbara Shaw McKinney and illustrator Carolyn R. Stich, "Water Words: Rhymed And Defined" combines water-related poems with colorful artwork to provide young readers with definitions, information, and interesting facts about water and water related terms such as water cycle, rain, wetlands, condensation, watershed, aquifer, acid rain, precipitation, evaporation, erosion, point source pollution, transpiration, conversation, overdraft, and bodies of water. An informative, 'kid friendly', 32-page picturebook, "Water Words: Rhymed And Defined" is an ideal and recommended addition to both school and community library Environmental Studies reference collections and reading lists for elementary school aged children.

A most thorough introduction to the science & technology

This comprehensive work by R.S. does probably classify as the all purpose introductory reference in the wave energy domain. It will illustratively, concisely and clearly guide the reader to an overall tour, covering comparative economic analysis, review of major technologies, basic wave theory, general issues for mechanical energy conversion, mooring apects and even, environmental issues. A definite must for students and libraries, will even well suffice for the requirements of many modern industrialists, seeking for a thorough overview of this rapidly gaining renewable energy field. As a key remark, the book holds a classic value since the technology domains covered (such as OWC), currently maintain candidate usability and evolution potential, as well as an international R&D focus.

Love from Georgia!

the book's write-up: Everett Black had never been able to forget his hometown or the woman he'd left behind. Jennifer Howard had been all he'd wanted, though a future together had been impossible at the time. Returning home brought him face-toface with Jennifer, but it also increased the gossip, which soon spread faster than the fire that had burned Atlanta. This bad boy had worked hard to become a refined businessman. But being a Southern gentleman was the farthest thing from Everett's mind as he sought to claim his Georgia peach and a love too long denied!

Shaw's depiction of a boy's journey to find a whistling bear is a really creative and imaginary story. There are tremendous details in the illustrations that correlate with the story. My children loved finding the hidden spider on each page. This is a story your children will ask you to read again and again.

What a find!

It took me a while to discover that Ms. L'Engle has published two books of poetry. I loved her first as a child, when my mind was fascinated by supernatural wonders in time and space. Recently I discovered her adult novels, and finally this book of poetry.

This poetry covers a range of topics, and many of the poems cover Bible stories and Biblical themes. But it is not sing-songy, watered-down, cliche, or boring by any means. You'll see the world through the eyes of a parrot (and will be taught something of humanity in that poem) and through the eyes of the mother of Jesus. The poetic devices are used beautifully, especially internal rhyme, rhythm, and alliteration. There are some surprises here. A couple of the poems are very brief (only five short lines), and you'll be surprised how much a few words can say. I found myself laughing out loud several times. I kept going over to my husband and insisting that I must read him another poem.

This poetry has encouraged me to continue writing myself. I am hoping to learn through osmosis here, so I am reading these works over and over again. They teach so much about form, style, vocabulary, and wit. There are unsuspected twists and so many different subjects here. Find this book if you enjoy L'Engle or if you enjoy excellent poetry! Many of these poems will be like water for your soul, the cold refreshing water of depth, love, and laughter.
