"Stodgy, stiff, self-righteous, boring..." These are NOT words that describe Jill Briscoe's autobiography, "There's a Snake In My Garden!" Brilliantly, Briscoe refers to her conversations with "the snake," representing her own struggles with various temptations.

Using wit and humor, she draws the reader into her world.. not the one you might expect a wife of a successful pastor to reveal, but the one all of us most likely relate to. Briscoe uncovers some weaknesses in herself, displaying the very human part of being a "Christian." Her story is interesting, challenging, inspiring, and encouraging. And it's sure to make you smile! :)

Review Date: 2002-12-04
The colors in this Eskimo village in the Far North are warm, rich and soothing. They give you the impression of a soft darkness, illuminated by the Aurora Borealus. Tiktala, a young girl who expresses a desire to be a great sculptor of soapstone, goes on a quest to find her spirit guide. She is transformed by the spirits into a Harp Seal and learns what it is like to live as one, in the beautiful and dangerous wild.

I picked this up just on a whim at the library and had to buy my own copy. I have 2 daughters, 14 and 5 and they love it! Some of the suggestions CAN be a little intimidating, but practice on a piece of paper can help at first. I currently have grass green nails with orange flowers and yellow middles. LOTS of compliments on them. My youngest has red with white polkadots. The older is visiting grandmother but checked the website and no telling what she's doing.

the suggestion for an old eyeliner brush is a good one, but add a capful of polish remover and paper towel to dip between strokes and clean. I have a feeling that we'll be doing polish parties at slumber parties this year. Have a wedding planning for fall and have some great ideas for it. I do suggest using the less expensive polishes until you are good at it...they stay on just fine and wear well with a good topcoat.

The instructions are quite clear and a great jumping off place for your own ideas. All around well-written book and LOTS of fun.

Excellent information

Review Date: 2004-01-23
Opened 1927, the Tokyo subway today has 12 lines (240 km), and more sections are under construction. More than 2.7 billion passengers per year travel the system. In this distinct subway net the trains are high-tech, stations are incredibly clean and safe, signs are bilingual Japanese/English, and staff is equipped with white gloves.

But you'll have a problem if you want to get further information in English about this interesting system. This is the only book I found, and it is quite good though small. It includes chapters about the subway companies, safety, future, ticketing, statistics, and the subway museum. All lines are described separately with images and text about historical and technical details. This little book even mentions the often-heard anecdote concerning staff hired exclusively for pushing passengers into overcrowded trains. According to this book, it is just regular station staff preventing passengers' clothes getting stuck between the doors. And, by the way, when I was in Tokyo the trains were never overcrowded.

When you travel to Tokyo, take this little book along (or buy it there) and don't miss the excellent subway museum at Kasai station!

My 2 yr old grandson enjoys books to the max. This is one of his absolute favorites. He also as Tow Truck and Dump Truck. We read these several times a day. He especially enjoys all the pictures. We talk about the little things you can see. Any tools on the pages really get his attention. He does sound effects like a pro. The pages are easy to read and turn and very durable. It is like a pop up book also so the images are 3 D. All of these books are great! I'd buy them again.

The Total Guide to College Life should be required reading for all who are entering college. Much of the advice is applicable for those attending trade schools or technical institutes. The approach is no-nonsense and interesting. The book includes information on how to create part time employment, how to get into and out of classes, a crash course on time management, and a roommate survival course.

The Shaw's book 'trace elements in magmas' is the up-to-dated description of the available mathematical methods of modeling trace elements in igneous systems. It covers since the more simple Rayleigh fractional crystallisation and batch partial melting mechanisms until the most complex dynamic melting. It is well illustrated, concise, and has a number of useful references.

Great information about the unique giving of women!

Review Date: 2006-11-08
While I have always been proud of being a woman, and of the unique contributions women continue to make toward improving our society, I did not have as many concrete examples of the transformative power of women's giving as I know now, as a result of this little book. It is filled with fascinating, easy to digest chapters, each written from a different perspective. You will likely mark many pages to refer back to and quote from! I know that I have:-)
