I used Shaw's book as the text for my graduate Foundations of Educational Leadership course last spring and will use it again this fall. Shaw's book provides students with an opportunity to self reflect and analyze their skills. As one of my students stated, "Self-reflection and making an honest analysis about my leadership skill development is something that I truly struggle with. I've learned a great deal using Shaw's text this semester." Another student stated, "The ideas in Shaw's book were quite eye opening. As I read, I found myself saying, Yeah, that makes sense."
The Intentional Leader provides a comprehensive look at leadership skills and abilities. The book is very user friendly and well written.

An overview of crafts and craft tools in Ireland
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-15
This is not a how-to book. However it does show close-ups of people in the process of doing crafts. There are also pictures of tools used in the various crafts. The photographs are mostly black and white with a small color section (125). There are 440 illustrations. There are columns of information to go with each craft. Crafts coved include textiles, stonework, woodwork, (Willow, rush and straw), lather, metalwork, pottery, glassware, candle making, fly-tying, and rural life. Makes a good coffee table book.

A monument! For every caver just dreaming to go caving to Ja this is a must have. Tons and tons of information. Excellent work from Mr Fincham. This is a lives work. Only minor flaw: the many cavemaps have been redrawn to have a uniform style throughout the book resulting in a reduction of detail compared to the original map. But who cares ;)

An excellent compilation of the Jatakas

This is an excellent selection of the Jatakas, which are somewhat reminiscent of Chaucer's tales. Sarah Shaw's translation is very moving and a delight to read. The icing on the cake though, is the commentary that accompanies each Jataka - they are very insightful, and are as fun as reading the Jatakas themselves.

My only comment about this book is that the accompanying commentaries should follow after each the Jataka, and not before. Having the commentary behind would prevent any spoilers and it is also much more productive reading the commentary only after you've read the Jataka itself.

Having said that, this is a great book! I'm reading this a second time and will be recommending it to my friends.

An excellent book from an esteemed scholar (a Jewish American himself) - showing how the Turks tried to and/or protected the Jews during World War II from certain death in gas chambers. The wife of the Turkish Council General to Greece was heinously killed by a German an air raid to his house. This tradition of friendship and protection goes back to 1492 when the Ottoman Sultan invited all the Jews expelled from Spain after the infamous "Spanish Inquisitions" to Turkey. The Turkish Sultan personally welcomed them to Turkish soil when the ships carrying the Jewish refugees arrived.Well done Stanford.

There are so many whiners and complainers in this world and unfortunately they are the ones given promotional time. But that is this world. Joni serves as a true model of what it means to have faith in God through Christ and overcome even the harshest of obstacles without even a whimper. This book should grace every household with a young adult or child.

Great Selection of Articles

Review Date: 2007-01-10
This book has a little of everything. Articles on History, Jewish Practice, Mysticism, and Biographies, to name a few of the topics presented. The articles are scholarly but easy enough for pleasurable reading.
Accompanying each article is section which provides sources for additional reading on the topics touched upon. Also accompanying each article, are a selection of the actual sources being discussed, enabling the reader to get a good feel of the material.

All in all, the interesting topics in addition to the two features listed above make this a good book.
