If you only get one book on the subject, this is the one. Our family was looking for a brief introductory book about tennis, to read with our 10 year old. We bought several but this is only one that really delivered. It truly is a step-by-step guide. Nicely written and beautifully illustrated, this work is gushing with well organized and correctly sequenced information. In fact, although succinct in its 47 pages of sketches and text, it also serves as a reference book to the fundementals of the sport. It would be a true bargain at double the price.

This book is short. And it's old.

It doesn't seem old-fashioned however and it's
a quick read with a lot of good, tersely-stated
advice in it.

How To Write Letters That Win reminded me of Robert
Collier's Letter Book - only in a condensed form.

Collier's book may be a little hard for many modern
readers... his language is "old fashioned" and his
values may seem, well, antiquated and dusty.

This little book shines because it's based on good
common sense advice about writing sales letters
and other business communications.

You probably won't buy it. And it's hard to find on
PDF. You don't know what you are missing.

It is a shame this one is out of print and difficult to get hold of, because it is good. Shaw is a distinguished British SF author. In this guide he assumes that the reader has overcome writer's block and know their grammar, and knows something about the mechanics of general writing. Therefore he gets down and dirty immediately into advice on how to write good SF! All his advice is geared towards starting and finishing that SF story of yours. He also gives some hints on how to distinguish between a good idea for a story and a bad idea. He does have some advice on publishing, but the main point is that if your story is not good SF it really is no point marketing it as SF.

I loved this book. As a writer, I wanted to get more information about expanding my portfolio. This book is easy to read, full of helpful information and inexpensive. You can't get much better than that! However, this book focuses on magazine article writing and not so much on books. So if you're an aspiring article writer, I say, "Don't pass this book up!"

For some time now, Paul Kearns has contributed some very stimulating articles in various management and HR journals. In this book, he sets out to clarify the direct lines of sight needed to ensure that the HR and Business strategies are entwined in the same strand of DNA, and along the way comments quite unequivocally on some of the perceptions of what is deemed to be "HR strategy" and some of the current fads that are considered to be part of it.

Kearns has produced a gem of a book, accessible, written without jargon and with a logical and analytical challenge to much of what is happening in HR departments today. As the cover states, this is "...a mandatory read for anyone with HR in their job title". This is not going to make comfortable reading for many senior HR people, either on the Board or aspiring to it, and I would advise them to get hold of this before the CEO or the CFO, or risk facing some very awkward questions. For anyone setting out in a career in HR this is an indispensable handbook, and I await his next work with anticipation.

After years of looking through used and vintage book stores, it's great to see the re-release of Artie Shaw's books. His writing is just as masterful as the music he writes, although I'm sure he wouldn't like that comparison. I would recommend this book to fans of Shaw, jazz, a bygone era, or any book lover. You won't be able to put it down.

This book is an excellent way to start for new Christians! I like the fact that there is one page to read a day for a year, which let's you grow with God at your own pace. Reading this book has helped me in my growth and following the path He has made for me. It is a must have for all who believe!

Thank God for Joan Walsh Anglund! Once again, she has created a work exquisite in its simplicity. It is a perfect vehicle for acquainting both children and adults with scripture. Each brief verse has a beautiful illustration to enhance the words. Mrs Anglund's children take one back to a time more innocent and--yes--more spiritual! A must!
