Not ony this has about 100 different knots (20 practical ones), it has some knots that you can make as an ornament or good luck charms. It has useful illustrations too. Although I just bought this book a few hours ago on a sale rack in a nearby bookstore, my first impression of this book is pretty good.
This hard cover book also has:
tags that divides different knot sections into:
The world's favorite knots
20 practical knots
traditional knots
innovative knots
useful mutations

I received this book as a gift from a wonderful friend that has watched me struggle with my weight and fitness for years. I love Lauren's no nonsense approach to meal planning and working out. I am ready to re-dedicate myself to a program that I am certain will be easier to follow than all the others I have tried.
You won't believe all the GREAT recipes included to help you succeed in balancing your meal preparation.
THANK YOU Lauren for dedicating yourself to helping others realize their potential. I will update this when I have finished 12 weeks of the program!

This is an astounding book really outlining Fabian Socialiam as seen in the plays of Henrik Ibsen. It has profound implications even today. It is a very interesting, enlightening, and literate book. One of Shaw's best works.

Dreams Or Reality is the complete and unabridged large-print hardcover novel about a teenager in the permissive 1960's who grows up into a confused young woman. Experiencing an abusive marriage and bearing three children, she convinces herself that material possessions are the most crucial component to obtaining happiness. Yet even though she obtains all the possessions she desires, her world continues to crumble, until she is forced to make life- changing decisions about what is truly valuable in her life. A compelling story about the insufficiency of money alone and the endless quest to find meaning.

Brilliant. Real eye-opener. Should've been a classic by now.

Robert Shaw is the guy who in the early eighties (together with the likes of Crutchfield, Farmer and Packard) put information theory back into physics. He analysed the [un]predictability of dynamical systems (aka chaos) in terms of the amount of information the system can store, how fast it is losing it and replacing it with noise from the "heat bath", and information flow between parts of the system.

The book ties much of that work together and describes an experimental study of a simple dripping tap, analysed this way, as a case in point that even when we have a "theory of everything" with regards to elementary particles, we are only just starting to understand what makes even the simplest systems tick.

Phase space, Lyapunov exponents, noise, entropy, dimension of a "strange attractor", geometry from a time series, it's all coming together in this stunningly insightful voyage of discovery. The rough typewriter print, handwritten formulae and delightful cartoon illustrations convey well the sense of immediacy, of science in the making.

This is physics for the 21st century. If you're curious about nature, read it. You will never think the same again.

The graphics in this remarkable little book are cleverly designed to awaken imagination to the psychic and physical kinematics behind resultant images. Thus the authors are able to hide their calculus on a single page in the Appendix and concentrate on the visual calisthenics involved in translating quantitative data into meaning. Seating themselves comfortably in Chaos, they succeed in making conventional order appear strange and wonderful "accidents," and thus enable us to think about it without conventional straight-jackets. I can't imagine an academic study which these ideas would not enrich. A valuable introduction to the new millennium, and an indispensable "traveling companion." Wide range of topics - does not go very deep in any
Helpful Votes: 19 out of 19 total.
Review Date: 2001-09-21
At 240 pages with a scope that covers the broad spectrum of privacy issues this book is more like a whitepaper or comprehensive executive overview. However, that can make this book more valuable to the right audience than a 1000 page tome that gets bogged down into details. The best audience is falls into two domains: marketing and corporate communications on the business side, and the technical staff involved in requirements and design.

The book is fast-paced and highly focused on each topic. It begins with an excellent discussion of marketing vs. privacy, which is an important opening topic because many analysts believe that the failure of e-business to meet its potential is because of consumer mistrust of information that is collected about their buying habits. With the big issue out of the way, the author goes into a succinct and clearly explained chapter intended to be a primer on privacy law. This sets the context for the rest of the book.

Each subsequent chapter addresses a specific topic. Each is well written and the range of topics spans every aspect of e-business privacy both in the U.S. and in Europe. The chapter titles are:

Healthcare Law Mandates Security and Privacy, Privacy of Personal Financial Information,Internet Privacy for Children, European Union Privacy Protection Mandate, Information Privacy and Compliance Programs, Internal Protection Controls, Creating and Communicating Policies, Digital Signatures Liberate Electronic Commerce, Biometric Security Systems, Encryption Security for Electronic Commerce, Protecting Proprietary Information, Secrecy and Noncompete Agreements, Computer Insurance: Risks and Protection, Audit Checklists and Monitoring.

As you can see, the topics are divided among general purpose privacy (i.e., privacy of personal financial information), technical (i.e., biometric security systems) and industry- or region-specific (i.e., healthcare law; EU privacy protection mandate).

With such a short page count and wide scope this book is not going to provide detailed answers. However, it will force you to see the bigger picture and carefully examine which areas you will need to address in more detail. From there you can obtain consulting services, training for in-house staff and/or additional books that address your specific areas of interest at the level of detail you require. I personally think this book is valuable for the reasons stated above and highly recommend it to anyone who needs to see e-business privacy at a macro level.

Informative and fun Southern history
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-19
This book focuses on domestic life in the South during the period of European settlement. It makes clear that many of the white farm families would not have survived had they not had the cooperation and instruction in practical living techniques generously provided by their native neighbors. I was amused at how many of the "Southern" traditions of food and cooking that I grew up with are really Native American traditions that were adopted by the settlers. Gray is an entertaining writer who has gathered many facts that may appear trivial, but which help to develop a detailed picture of what life was like on the frontier when the frontier was east of Atlanta.

Key insights and practical advice, hope for cancer patients
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1998-10-07
This book is both practical in its solid advice and inspirational in its message of hope and healing. After the diagnosis of cancer, the patient may wonder, "what now?" ... how to help the healing process, how to view the disease in a realistic but hopeful way, how to use nutrition, exercise, and visualization to keep the body strong. Also, it focuses on how to find meaning in life, to celebrate and enjoy life with laughter, to explore personal spirituality. I found this book to be invaluable, inspirational, and insightful, and would recommend it to any cancer patient, or a concerned friend or relative who wants to help a patient with supportive and solid advice for coping. (This book advocates principles to use in addition to medical treatment, never instead of medical therapy.)
