You and the Last Stand of the Comanches

From the cover: Enter the world of the Indian warlords of the High Plains. You are twelve-year old Nancy O'Connell, the daughter of pioneer parents who have settled in the Hill Country west of San Antonio - in the new and raw Austin Colony. Life with your brother and sister is full of hard work, but it is fun - that is, until the winter of 1870. Out gathering firewood, you are captured by a band of Comanche braves. For the next five years you will live - or die - among the Comanches as they fight their final bloody battles against the Bluecoats and Texas Rangers who pursue them. Can you learn to live in the wild new world, or will your "white man's ways" mean your death? Can you escape, or will you become a slave, an adopted daughter, or the young wife of a Comanche warrior? You will determine your own fate in this scary world. If you like Choose Your Own Adventure game books, you will like this one, too.

This book has been the most used in my 10 years of teaching. Building a community in a classroom is not as easy as it sounds, and Shaw's ideas help you pick & choose what will work for your group. Very suitable for all ages - even adult!

Using the Pathwork to Change Your Life
Helpful Votes: 20 out of 20 total.
Review Date: 2003-06-18
This CD is invaluable to anyone who is on a spiritual path. It contains the complete Pathwork lectures, a series of 258 channeled lectures delivered over a period of 22 years. The lectures can be viewed with either Adobe Acrobat Reader or a word processor. Better yet, the CD includes a search capability.

When I get "stuck" and have difficulty dealing with what is going on in my life, I can search the CD for a word or phrase and find material that will help.

The Pathwork material is life-changing and life-enhancing. It brings a deeper connection with all aspects of the self, and it is a blueprint for changing our negative patterns and becoming more happy and blissful. The work is not necessarily easy. It requires that we face the worst in us, see it clearly, and choose to change it. But if we do the work, the Pathwork Guide tells us, special spiritual help and protection is available.

I certainly have found this to be true in my life. This material helped me map out a healing strategy through ovarian cancer that saw me go from "probably terminal" to cancer-free. It has helped me deal with the after effects of growing up in a dysfunctional family. It has taught me how to love myself despite my worst faults and, as a result, how to really love others. It has taught me that I am truly safe and do not need my defenses any longer.

The Pathwork has transformed my life. I am happier and more content than at any other time in my life, and that is true even when life is a struggle. This material is a priceless gift to the world.

best tips for an in-home art studio
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2000-11-24
This little book is jam-packed with helpful tips for the non-professional artist/designer. While I'm sure the professional could profit from this guide, I think it is most useful to the aspiring artist/designer who has a design idea or project and needs help in getting from the creative urge to the realistic application. All kinds of how-to with precise illustrations are detailed by the author: how-to organize your desk top, drawing board and materials and supplies, how-to use inexpensive, easily-available materials to make helpful artistic devices, how-to make lettering, free-hand circles and test t-squares and triangles for "trueness" and on and on. I work in stained glass and I've found this book of great practical value for designing and for setting up a simple work space at home. I think other hobbyists and crafters would find great value for the money in this book.

A true delight

What a wonderful and delightful book. The author has taken a well-worn topic and infused it with insight and energy. Best of all, the author communicates simply and clearly. He has brought graduate complex analysis to the masses; I wish that I had a book like this as an undergraduate. It is also a great read: the kind of pick you could pick up and go cover to cover with. However, you'll probably want to be at your keyboard trying out his many examples. The unique thing about this tome is that it is well-written, it is mathematically ambitious and it is an invaluable reference for how to use Mathematica. Also, as we have come to expect from Cambridge, this book has excellent production quality.

As an Episcopal priest I am responsible for two small congregations in southern Iowa. This book is clearly written and pragmatic. I will use it
as a tool to encourage the growth of the leaders of these churches.

A masterpiece of information and hard work!!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1999-09-19
This publication will be of interest to anyone with the surname Skues/Skewes/Skews/Skewis and other variants. It is a masterpiece of information, with every possible cross reference you could ever need (or want). The author travelled the world to track down the descendants of emigrants from many decades ago, and the book contains lots of fascinating facts and pictures. It does not have many entries of the spelling Skuce/Skuse, as these are usually pronounced with a short "u", and this book is about names with the longer "u" - however, the update for this second spelling/pronunciation is in progress, but it may take an equal length of time to complete as the original - some 30 years. Roll on 2029!!

Copies of this book may be available from the author. Email me for further details.

Excellent description of an unknown biblical character
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1999-03-13
This book opened up the character and life of one of the least known women - Joanna who became a follower and supporter of Jesus. Her husband was employed by Herod and what interested me was that he was an arab and she a jew, he was a supporter of Herod and she a follower of Jesus. What an incredible witness she must have been inside the court of Herod. A well written, enjoyable and stimulating novel, one that I battled to put down.

There are a few copies of Cowboy like me, still in print. It is by the same author of Black Monk Time, Thomas Edward Shaw & Anita Klemke. Thomas M. Shaw as listed on black monk time, is not an author of this book. Nor is Thomas (no middle initial) Shaw.

A charming love and forgiveness.

Review Date: 1999-07-29
Danielle Shaw always tells a good story and Craven's Bride is delightful. Set in a British village and with 100K to play with, it's much more than your average short romance. The hero and heroine are most appealing and there are some lovely supporting characters. Grief, guilt, and injustice form part of the plot, but there is also redemption and healing. This one positively *begs* for companion novels to fill out the stories of some of the supporting cast.
