A Must-Read for Family Caregivers
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-02-17
When my grandmother started showing signs of Alzheimer's in 1989, when information on Alzheimer's was still very limited, Sharon Fish's book was a godsend. She clearly outlines what to expect as the disease progresses through its various stages and how to deal with it, all written with compassion and from her own real-life experiences with families trying to cope with and understand the realities of Alzheimer's. At the time, I bought several copies and passed them around for all of my family to read, and have loaned my own copy countless times over the past decade to friends facing the difficulty of dealing with a loved one's dementia.

international networking - advanced class
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-15
Had the benefit of seeing the author and subject at a DC event , so must say from the outset, that this may have an unfair advantage.
Shaw does a fine job, capturing the essence of Eliasson's modus operandi and how that translates into cognitive and situational connectedness.
The book is a "how to" and ""why you should" parlay networking skills to enable a greater good.
Though written from the POV of an Ambassador in international settings and circumstances, I got the impression that if one picks up on the themes and techniques - one could improve one's lot in life personally, career, and in business, overall.
Enjoyed the blunt, straight forward, A-political nature of the discussions, and picked up (learned ) where the Ambassador stopped short of going to far, after he had made his point.
Excellent insite into how/why certain international situations happenned, and gives suggestions as to how some may have been avoided, without sounding like a monday morning quarterback. More. like lesssons for us to observe for the next time.

Painting the Black
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-27
In the book "Painting the Black", Ryan Ward is a senior in high school. he had a love to play baseball until he broke his ankle. That all changed when Josh Daniels moved in the street. Ryan found that love for basball again. They started playing around down at the Community Center on the baseball diamonds. Then football season came around and Josh was going to try out for the team. Josh made the team and didn't want to throw the baseball around. He wanted to throw the football around cince he was the back up Quarterback. That was bad for Ryan because Ryan had just decided to tryout for the baseball team as a cather. Ryan needed all the practice he could get if he wanted to make the team. Josh was the star, when the starting Quater back was injured in the first game. Then, josh got in trouble at school for lifting a girls shirt up. His ponisment was he wasn't allowed to play in the next football game. That was the game that would allow them to go to state.I think this is one of the best books i have ever read. I recomend this book to any body that likes any kind of sport. Anybody would like this book.

A very satisfying introduction
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-12-04
The title of this excellent entry in an excellent series should be 'Egyptology', as it is more about the study of ancient Egypt than the history itself. At 190 pages, it is a little longer than many entries in this series, but the final 30 of those pages are References, Timeline and so on, which provide a good springboard for further study.

Pharaonic Egypt was Earth's first great empire and it lasted for 3 millennia. The author examines the way in which that civilization has been perceived, interpreted and mythologized by, among others, Victorians seeking verification of Biblical stories and by modern, popular culture.

Ian Shaw writes well and comes across as an erudite and objective scholar. He has not used this book as an opportunity to put forward any unorthodoxy of his own, and has not been afraid to include many quotations from other Egyptologists. All of this makes the book a perfect introduction to this fascinating subject.

This delightful and creative book of prayers for children deals with issues that children face such as sibling rivalry and scary monsters. These simple prayers instil a delight in creation while teaching God's love to both child and adult.
