As in "Cheap Seats", Poole demonstrates not only an amazing control of the written word, but of the universe as a whole. "Hiding from Salesmen" is a book that takes place in the mind of a lunatic, but a lunatic who creates a place you want to be. It is amazing how he takes a reader into places that at first seem striking only for their humor, but under the surface are poignant, touching and illuminating. With a quick turn of phrase Poole shows us that there is emotional clarity in his universe and it is mirrored in our own. Brilliant.

Hiding From Salesmen is a collection of wry poems by Scott Pools that mix humor with quizzical insight and a dash of the fantastic. Black-and-white surrealist illustrations by Robert Helm enhance this unforgettable collection. The Sexy Shakers: Shaker architecture is as simple as sex./Two naked elms in a field wait to be/wooden bowls filled with light./Each scratch visible./Staircases. The sound of rising and descending steps/into clouds of bleached wood./Rows upon rows of plain drawers without labels.//All doors are open. The hinges greased./Cold air dances without music./A Shaker house is as sexual as a waiting skillet.//I don't care what you think./The Shakers are the sexiest people.//All their chairs are empty.

Hiking Washington's Geology is a well-written, informative book that describes the geologic evolution of a wide and varied landscape. I especially appreciate the detailed directions on how to get to the trailheads and equally detailed descriptions of things to look for while hiking. This book is a must-have for anyone interested in the geologic natural history of Washington....

This book went step by step from knowing nothing about writing a web page to making a quite complete up-to-date one. And all from scratch, needing only a text editor such as notepad. Links to graphics, various plug-ins, and other helpful downloads are provided. Lots of clear, very helpful pictures are used. I could have had my first page up the next day if I had had a server available

This book is great for people just starting out in HTML. It takes you step-by-step through the basics of creating a great web page. The book provides in depth description along with colorful examples. It also provides extra pointers, along with links to helpful web sites. This book took me from knowing nothing about HTML to becoming a web master of my own site.

As a beginner, learning HTML was a daunting prospect. Scott Arpajian's book, HTML3
was a real FIND for me. Since reading this book (more than once) I have constructed
a personal homepage, and successfully completed several college computer courses
requiring HTML work.
THANKS.

Resently I got an assignment to build a web page but I had absolutely no experience. Fortunately, I had picked this book up intending some day to read it. Using HTML3 as my only source of reference, I was able to build a multi-paged web site with over 400 links world-wide. If it hadn't been for this book, I'd still be scratching my head and wondering how to start.

As a college student, I have to say that to find a good deal on textbooks is not easy. The book I purchased was a used textbook that was a lot cheaper here than if I were to have purchased it used at the campus bookstore. It was shipped very quickly. I am very happy. Thanks for saving me some money!

Similar to the review below, I find this book invaluable every time I teach COMS 101 or its equivalent. Not only does the book offer a wealth of information pertaining specifically to the study and field of Communication, but it offers a great deal of visceral information to supplement its core material interesting anecdotes and digressions. The supplemental material proves to be useful in *waking students up* to the lectures at hand.

Compiled and organized by Scott L. Mingus, Sr., "Human Interest Stories From Antietam" is a compilation of brief vignettes presenting individual stories of the men who fought in the Maryland campaign of September 1862. Each succinct anecdote is laid out chronologically, placed in its proper context, and documented as to its source. Arranged into four chapters, these stories are drawn from the actions leading up to the battle of Antietam and follow through the aftermath of the American Civil War's bloodiest single day of action. Very strongly recommended reading and an invaluable addition to any personal, academic, or community library Civil War Studies reference collection, these little slices of observation from the men who were there provide an informative, authoritative context, as well as an eye-witness descriptive vividness that will prove of unique and special interest to Civil War buffs and academia alike.

This book is a companion to Scott's previous book, Human Interest Stories from Gettysburg, and is just as good a read. Scott once again does a wonderful job of choosing and editing stories from the many memoirs and articles that appeared later after the war. Though one will not learn how the battle was fought - there are other published works that expressly do that - one will appreciate getting into the minds of the soldiers and civilians who witnessed a tragic but great event in our nation's young history. Thank God that those participants' stories were written, and now collected by Scott so that succeeding generations can read them as well.

"Human Interest Stories from Antietam" by Scott L. Mingus, Sr. follows the progression of Robert E. Lee's army into Maryland in his first invasion of the North. September 1862 snap-shots and first hand short stories abound from the men and women who were there. Scott shares with the reader incidents as obscure as chance family meetings and stories of extraordinary women demonstrating courage and kindness. Also included are examples of common stories, replicated hundreds of times or more, about interactions between soldiers and civilians. Soldiers' quests for food and normalcy is repeated in many humorous and touching tales. Acts of kindness and cowardice, views from the highly educated and the common man, and scenes depicting actions of America's immigrants are all aired in this book. The reader will experience a complete range of emotions reading of what our forefathers lived. I highly recommend this book to be a jewel in everyone's library.
