The book takes you from basic economics concepts to advanced issues of trade impact on the environment. Maybe the approach is too much ''macro''.

This book develops important tools for studying the interactions
between trade and the environment. The theoretical methodology is coherent and the empirical results are surprising. Based on my own teaching experience, it makes an excellent supplementary textbook for graduate courses in international trade or environmental economics. It is also a great choice for a primary textbook for a course of special topics in international economics.

This book should be required reading for anyone interested in the economics of trade and environment interactions. Copeland and Taylor have long since established themselves as leaders in this field; this book cements their reputation and will be the standard text for anyone teaching a graduate or senior level course on the subject of Trade and the Environment. I have already used this book in my own teaching. This clearly written text is fun both to read and teach from. Moreover, prior knowledge of trade theory is unnecessary for either instructors or students to take full advantage of this book.

Chapter 2 lays out the analytical framework, which fuses a general model of competitive trade with a tractable treatment of industrial pollution. This comprehensive chapter does such a good job at covering the underlying competitive trade theory that I will probably also use it to teach such models in my graduate International Trade classes in the future.

The following chapters utilize the analytical model to address pressing debates within international environmental economics. Chapter 3 examines the theoretical assumptions that would be necessary for "Environmental Kuznet's Curves" (EKCs) to exist. This chapter alone is enough to recommend this book, as a decade of prior research on EKCs has failed to provide a systematic theoretical treatment of the subject.

In chapters 4, 5 and 6, Copeland and Taylor examine the impacts of trade liberalization on environmental quality. In preparation for their empirical chapter, the authors provide a systematic analysis of two competing hypotheses: the Pollution Havens hypothesis, and the Factor Endowments hypothesis. The Pollution Havens hypothesis argues that trade liberalization will drive polluting industry to poor countries that have weak environmental regulations. Yet little of the previous empirical work has found support for this hypothesis. Copeland and Taylor show that a long-accepted relationship from trade theory---the Factor Endowments hypothesis, which argues that trade liberalization will shift capital intensive industry to capital intensive (rich) countries---has an offsetting effect on the location of dirty industry, and provides a likely explanation for the non-results of previous empirical work. This is an argument the authors have made elsewhere, and I am glad that they allocate the space in their book to fleshing out the details.

In chapter 7 Copeland and Taylor draw together the theoretical predictions of their previous chapters to test empirically how free trade affects sulphur-dioxide concentrations in countries around the globe. They reveal that openness per se has little impact on pollution concentrations; instead, what matters is the combination of openness and country attributes. They conclude with a compelling `1% rule': "if openness to international markets raises both output and income by 1%, [sulfur-dioxide] concentrations fall by approximately 1%" (p.272). That is, freer trade may be good for the environment.

My only complaint with the book is that it isn't longer. The authors focus on the problem of industrial pollution in competitive, open economies. Additional chapters covering cases in which firms exert market power, or in which pollution is generated by consumers directly, would also be useful for students and practitioners alike. I suppose this means they'll just have to be encouraged to write a second volume.

This book is really sad, but if you like true crime you will want to read Trail of Blood. It doesn't suffer from to much repetition, like some true crime books.

I like the way it is written: direct and to the point. The book was suspenseful, as I was not sure how it was going to end. For me the book ended up being a mystery, as well as, a true crime book.

I admire Jim Dunn, the detectives, and the justice system for their perseverance and their dedication to find justice for Scott Dunn.

I have to say that I thought the justice system in Texas was a lot harsher until I read this book. The story is heartbreaking about the loss and disappearance of Roger Scott Dunn better known as Scott. There is a love triangle between him and two women, Jessica Tate, and Leisha Hamilton but the latter has her own love triangle or quadrangle of her own. Leisha Hamilton is a psychopath and fits many of the characteristics. One Sunday evening, she calls SCott's father in Pennsylvania to relate the news that he's missing or at least that is what she wants us to think. Leisha Hamilton is truthfully a nut job who needs psychiatric care. I shocked by how she behaved and her being a psychopath explains so much about why she acts so callously about Scott's family, friends, and his disappearance. The trail of blood is what helps prove his murder in 1991. The father, Jim, co-wrote his experiences and loss of his son even without a body and his fight for justice. The book starts off slowly and gains momentum along the way making a fast read. I skimmed through the court section because it was somewhat redundant of previous information already written in early pages. The case and fight for Justice in Scott's memory is quite a story in itself. I can't help but write about Scott's beloved car, Yellow Thunder, that he took pride in and treated it so well. When Leisha demands the car back, I just wanted to scream at her. It's just a car and it's not as important as getting Scott back.
Sadly Leisha only got 20 years while her accomplice, Tim Smith, got ten years probation. While Leisha was the mastermind, there is still no body. I think Leisha got off quite light in her sentence and she robbed Scott's family of his life and his future with Jessica Tate and possible grandchildren. The grave is still empty at the City of Lubbock Cemetery where he is supposed to be. The family just wants a final burial and still justice.

This well written, gripping tale is of a father's long search for his missing son. All the while, he was playing a cat and mouse game with the woman he knew was responsible for his son's death. No body was ever found but the crime scene told such a story! In my new novel, Texas Poker Wisdom, I used this book as a reference for forensics. When the Vidocq Society gets involved in the investigation, you know you have a very special case. The Lubbock Police did a superb job. You will love this book if you are a true crime or mystery fan.

Since buying this book, I've tried to run a new trail each weekend. I've only been trail running for a couple of years and have found this book extremely helpful (and funny) in finding new trails to run without getting in over my head. This book makes it easy to find nearby trails pretty quickly and find the ones that are right for your abilities. It really helps to keep your running fun and to let you set some new goals "off the beaten path." Definitely buy this book if you live in Colorado or are planning to visit and want to experience some great parts of our state.

I recently started trail running within the last year, and found this book to be very insightful, easy and entertaining to read. The format is straightforward, and they offer a witty "Norm"al guy view of all the trails. This is helpful for me because I probably can't handle (yet) some of the runs shown. Trails are rated from easy to extremely difficult (the "Norm"al guy didn't run those). I would suggest this book for ANYBODY who enjoys running - trails or not!

Thorough, thoughtful, useful, readable.

Great book with great information. As a novice trail-runner, this book removed a lot of the "unknowns" of the trail-running experience for me. But it's also easy to see that the Trail Runner's Guide has a complete package of information for the experienced trail-runner. The authors have done a superlative job of compiling and editing the most useful and applicable information for all skill levels. The diversity and cross-section of trails covered is also fantastic. Excellent work.

A very concise, readable and enjoyable guide.

I have run several of the trails they recommend and all the info they provided was very accurate and helpful. I am very excited about this guide book. I hope it inspires people to get out there and enjoy the beauty of Colorado trails.

A wonderful satricial sci-fi comedy that moves you along a clever but strange plot line. The author isn't afraid to poke fun at his protagonist, the world we live in, and even himself.

I would definitely recommend this book as a quick, easy, and amusing read. I literally laughed out loud at several points throughout the novel.

Scott Janus has written a funny, witty, and entertaining sci-fi novel in Trick Lever Hens. I have not yet finished the book, but I am enjoying it sufficiently to want to post this review. An update will be added when I do finish.

The novel offers obvious tongue-in-cheek pokes at hi-tech gadgets, gizmos, and corporations. While satirical, Trick Lever Hens is not mean-spirited. Anyone who has worked for corporations or know someone who does will be able to identify with Harrold, the likeable, though at times unlucky, hero.

Though I can't help but compare the novel to Douglas Adams' Universe series, Janus is proving his own individual voice in TLH. I think the book will appeal to those who look for light-hearted, entertaining reads and for those who are humorous sci-fi buffs. I might have given a 4.5 stars if that were possible because there are some editing typos. But they are not enough to warrant losing 1 star.

Anyone that's ever had a bad day at the office should read this book. After reading the hilarous encounters the main character Harrold has with everything from weapon welding gardening robots to an outbreak of self-replicating lemon-cheesecake-flavored frozen yogurt, that trivial tiff with your co-worker just won't seem so bad.

This is the best sci-fi comedy I've read in a long while - didn't want to put the book down. Witty asides about technology gone wild and a character who's actions are partially driven by the desire to "make chicks dig him" certainly makes for a good read.

Definitely check this one out!

This is a wonderful adaptation of one of Shakespeare's lighter works... Richly detailed artwork accompanies a brisk, skillful prose adaptation of this broad farce of mistaken identity and misplaced love... An ideal entry point for younger readers, one of several fine adaptations by Bruce Coville.

I love the stories that Bruce Coville writes, and was browsing some other books of his, when I saw that he had retold some of Shakespeare's plays for children. I first bought Romeo and Juliet, and have been buying them all as they come out. What a great way for kids (and adults) to learn about Shakespeare's plays! The illustrations are appropriate to the plays, and beautifully done. Twelfth Night, like the others, is well written and easy to read, and includes quotes from the play. I enjoyed this version of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

Originally written by William Shakespeare and retold by Bruce Coville, Twelfth Night is a wonderful book. Coville really captures the Shakespearean feel of the original in this delightful picture book. The story revolves around a young woman named Viola. The story begins as Viola finds herself in an unfamiliar land with no means of food or shelter. To survive in this new place she dresses as a man to go and work for the duke of the land, Orsino. It is not long before Viola develops strong feelings for the kind duke. However, Orsino is already infatuated with Lady Olivia. Orsino sends Viola to Lady Olivia to deliver his letters professing his love to her. Upon meeting the gentle messenger Olivia falls in love with her. Little does anyone know that the messenger is indeed a woman! It is all a crazy mess that is both comical and entertaining. Anyone looking for quality entertainment could find it in this great book.

This is one great book for reading the short thoughtful and sometimes very funny, and perhaps even serious stories while in the bathroom.

I usually read it a story at a time when evacuating myself (if you know what I mean... and NO, you cannot ask for pictures). The stories and text seems to be perfected timed and written to allow for the initial sit down, to push, to rest, to push, to another rest, to the five minute half time, to push, rest, the final push for any remanants, and the final TP cleaning process. Perfect length of the stories timed to your numbers two's. This rates the book five stars all by itself.

(My septic tank in Decatur is frozen, ask for pictures)

p.s. Some of the topics include:

1. celebrity museums
3. where Hitler's nephew lived in New York
7. how to do an authentic rain dance
19. two time toilet tomeinging
2. pop culture
5. forgotten history
88. really strange butt true lawsuits
20. really weird noises heard where else.. in the bathroom
72. unknown origins of things

I rate this book as FIVE WHOLE COMPLETE STARS and SO WILL YOU.

When I opened the package I was surprised that this book was so big. I was expecting something a lot smaller. Then when I started reading I was surprised that it held my attention as long as it did. Some of the items take up a page or two, and some only take up a paragraph or two. They say my mind jumps around a lot and that is what this book does, it jumps around a lot and for me it is interesting reading and it holds my attention when few books are able to do that. At the price these books are selling for used right now you can't go wrong on this one.

This book reads like a novel. It was a great way to discover what life was like during this not so distant past. Ever wonder if a previous generation had the same feelings you do? This is a window into how much we are alike even if the culture is different. It is also great historical insight. My favorite insight to the past is Cultural History, that which gives one a real sense of what life was like "back then". My grandmother was a Navy wife and my mom went to eight different schools in as many years. Although we have plenty of our own family stories to share, Scotty's book really helps paint a picture of my grandmother's world and put things into perspective. I highly recommend this book, for young and old.

Scotty McElroy has a prodigious memory ... and freely admits that, when memory fails her, she might just "embellish a bit"! But all women who have been married (or still are married) to Naval Officers, especially those who graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy, will forever treasure the time they spent as "Navy Wives" and will find this book a quick and easy read that will be enjoyable and reminiscent of that part of their life. Those who were Navy Wives in the '40's, '50's and '60's will probably find it the most enjoyable. If their husbands are now retired and not subject to the pressures of the business world, they too will enjoy Scotty's style and detailed descriptions of what it was like to be a Navy Wife.

Scott Anderson gives a very accurate depiction of the rewards and hardships of air force pilot training. It's written in third person but clearly is autobiographical. It spans from his being a civilian to earning his wings and becoming an F-16 pilot. It's very enjoyable and a must-read for anyone considering a career in military aviation. Tragically, Capt. Anderson was killed last year in a plane crash.

The book provides an insider's view into the world of the military jet fighter pilot but it isn't just a bunch of technical jargon. The author has a great ability to convey the sense of adventure and wonder involved with becoming a jet pilot. This is a great read for flying buffs and anyone who wants to stay on the ground but learn what its like to soar through the clouds. The author's book "Distant Fires" offers adventure of another kind tracing a canoe trip from Lake Superior to Hudson Bay -- replete with humerous observations on life in general. I recommend it as well.

Try them with Degenerative Joint Disease. We knew there had to be a better, easier way for those of us long past our prime "fighting years". As a volunteer personal safety instructor, I read, watch videos and attend as many seminars and programs as possible, always looking for ways to keep ourselves, and others, safe.
"Waking the Tiger Within" by Scott Flint has to be one of the best sources of staying safe to come along in some time. The book covers not only the number one ingredient of safety, ie awareness, but guides the reader into developing "Your natural built-in instinct to survive". His chapter, "Stop Button" is exactly what we have searched for: ending "an attack in one second." (No gun, pepper spray or Black Belt needed.) Worth the price of the book by itself.

Got kids or grandchildren? Worried about bullies? His chapters on these subjects are excellent.
Road Rage? Car-Jacking? (What would YOU do, if locked in the trunk of your car by an assailant?)
Many of the areas Scott writes about are covered in the seminars I present, but this book opens up a host of new, and surprisingly simple, techniques that almost anyone, at any age, in any state of health, can grasp and use.
Chapter One begins with these words: "No one ever has the right to hurt you." When you have finished reading and following the simple advice presented in these pages, you will be a long way toward the realization of that goal.
Buy this book for yourself and give copies to those you love.

"What a great book! Just finished the first reading last night. I am an NRA Certified Instructor in the Refuse To Be A Victim(r) Program, and of course many of the things mentioned are included in our seminars. A number of other items brought up will be finding their way into future seminars I'll be conducting. Thanks for a super job."

A must read for everyone!

Scott Flint is an accomplished martial artist and self defense trainer. In this book he will teach you ways to increase your awareness, methods to develop your instinctual fighting ability and techniques to keep you safe wherever you go.

This is not a book for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. Scott goes right for the jugular, and pulls no punches with the techniques shown. His style is very much ýin your faceý and up close and personal. As he puts it ýyou must become your assailantýs worst nightmare ý if you are to surviveý

As a full time self defense trainer and part time law enforcement officer, I am constantly amazed by recommendations made by well-intentioned people that you should ýgive in ý to the attacker and just do whatever he says. My experience and research has shown that the individuals who are mentally aware, properly trained and are willing to fight back are the survivors. This book clearly shows how to do all three.

The good news is that statistics show that the people that are the most prepared to defend themselves are the most likely not to get attacked. Although most attackers are dumb, they are not stupid. Just as the tiger looks for the weakest animal in the herd, the predator looks for signs of weakness when choosing a victim. Just the mere act of preparing yourself may be enough to keep you safe.

Waking the Tiger Within is easy to follow and understand and should be considered a must-read for anyone interested in defending themselves and their loved ones from violent attacks.
