This is my all time favorite book. It is about thirteen year old Eric Kirby. He went parasailing in hopes of seeing real live dinosaurs. His parasail crashed on Isla Sorna. He made
friends with a young iguanadon he named Iggy and at the end of
the book he rescues Dr.Grant. It is continued by Jurassic Park 3 the Junior Novelization.

Thirteen-year-old Eric Kirby goes para-sailing above Jurassic Park with his friend Ben, with hopes of seeing real live dinosaurs. But after a minor accident where Ben dies he is trapped on the island... With no escape. It's just him and a dynasty of ferocious dinosaurs!
This isn't a very good adult book, but children with an intrest in dinosaurs or Jurassic Park will love it.

A thrilling book inspired by the upcoming movie.

All thirteen-year-old Eric Kirby wanted was a chance to get to see real, live dinosaurs up close. So when his mom's boyfriend, Ben, offered him the opportunity, he jumped at the chance. Eric and Ben will get to parasail over the Jurassic Park Island, observing the dinosaurs from a safe distance. But something goes very wrong, and the two fall from the sky onto the island. Only Eric survives the fall, and he is trapped in a hostile prehistoric environment where he is the prey. It will take all of his wits and courage to stay alive until help arrives - but how can one kid survive among the deadliest predators ever to walk the earth? This was a thrilling story, not only for fans of the movies, but for readers who like adventure stories. The book ended with a cliffhanger that will lead into the new Jurassic Park movie, so now I have to wait until the movie comes out to find out what happens to Eric, which won't be for a whole month, or read the novelization. Still, this was an exciting, although short, book.

This is the best purchase I have made in the past year. In spite of what seems like a hefty price tag, it is worth every penny.
Scott Wilson, through a large number of reputable contributors, has assembled a comprehensive list of the burial places of virtually every celebrity/historical figure that I can think of. In addition to providing burial locations, Mr. Wilson also provides information regarding the deceased person's claim to fame, cause of death, and anecdotal stories pertaining to his individual subject, as well as dates of birth and death.
While the book claims to provide over 7,000 "resting places", in actuality far more grave locations are provided as in many cases Mr. Wilson provides locations for prominent families on the basis of a prominent family member's name or a historial event such as Titanic victims.
In the four months since I have had this book, I have only come up with two or three people who are not listed in this book.
This book is essential to anyone who likes to visit cemeteries or as they say 'get within six feet of your favorite dead celeb'.

This is truly an amazing work.

Scott Wilson has generously provided us with THE definitive text on this intriguing subject. Concise burial sights, birth and death dates are covered for over 7000 famous individuals. If this is not enough, his encylopedia also gives historical mini-bios of each of them and their relatives too!

The depth of this text is outstanding, and is highly recommended for anyone with a passion for business, political, sports, entertainment, military or journalistic history....and everything in between.

This work is one of the best bargains you will ever find. It will never be outdated, and will continue to be one of the greatest resources on this topic. All this for just over a penny a person!

Before I heard of this book, I came into contact with its author through the website "Find a Grave." For 20 years, I had been searching fruitlessly for the gravesite of prohibition gangster Legs Diamond. My interest was one of historical curiosity (I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that Diamond had been a boyhood hero of mine), and I meant no disrespect to anyone, living or dead, but it was impossible to locate this gravesite. I couldn't quite understand the reticence of cemetery personnel to divulge its location, considering that Diamond has been dead for over 70 years, but such was the case. No printed guide I consulted was helpful (the most I learned was the name and borough of the cemetery he was buried in and the fact that the gravesite was unmarked). I contacted the cemetery office, I talked to gravediggers in the cemetery, and was ready to give up completely when, in desperation and without any expectation of success, I went onto a "Find a Grave" forum and spelled out the frustrating experience I had been through. Mr. Wilson responded and within a day's time, using Mr. Wilson's information and contemporary photos of Diamond's funeral, I was able to locate the exact spot of his final "Resting Place." For those with an interest in this subject, Mr. Wilson's book is indispensable. His biographical descriptions are concise and accurate and one would be hard put to think of anyone deceased, famous or infamous, who is not included in this book. Actors, writers, criminals, politicians, athletes, politicians, scientists, artists- they're all here. The price may be steep, but, speaking for myself, it was well worth the investment.

This is a terrific book for any early teen baseball fan. Something that I thought was really interesting about this story is that the robbery portion of it is completely based off of an event that occurred to Houston Astros third basemen, Morgan Ensberg. There was a story done on ESPN in which he explained the entire event.

GREAT!!! Road To The Majors is an amazing book about a boy with a dream. It is about a boy named Jimmy Hanks, he is from California, he surfs like a lot of the people from his town but he wants to play soccer, until someone changes his life. Nick Erickson was one of Jimmy friends in high school. One day Nick was at Jimmy's house and convinced him that baseball was his sport. Jimmy always liked baseball but never wanted to be in the MLB (Major League Baseball). From then it is a great book about his struggles to make it to the MLB.

If you read this book I would love to hear if you liked it or not. I hope you find my review helpful and if you like baseball this is the book for you.

In this book The Road to the Majors, Jimmyis trying to make the baseball team. When he was younger,he always liked the bag of the double AA baseball team, the Lonestars. He thought the bags were neat and always wanted one, so he decided to try out for the Lonestars with his friend Nick Erickson. He wotked out in the summer and tried to get good enough to make triple AAA baseball that's one step under the majors. At tryouts, he either could get sent down to a league or he could get to play in double AA baseball. That's were Jimmy Hanks was playing. As Jimmy was trying to get better and better, he was learning the tricks or trades of being a baseball player. He went to tryouts with a high level of confidence, meaning he was full of hope and prayers to make the team. That talent meant he made the Amarillo Dusters, the triple AAA team. So he went out there and showed what he had. They were playing catch when the coach said "Jimmy Hanks"(here comes the moment of truth) "hey Jimmy, come in and set down please. We want to congradulate you on making the triple AAA Amarillo Dusters.

Great storyline about a young man chasing his passion of baseball and remembering just how it became his passion in the first place. Brought back some memories of my own childhood and how I dreamed of a Major League career. A good book for children in search of heroes and good read for us older "children" who can still remember what it was like to chase a dream.

Does anyone know where I can find more from these two authors or who these guys are?

I was recommended this book and I thought, "Great, ANOTHER running book. I hate books about running. They're all the same. Run more, eat better, try this, try that."
But I was about to drive down to Disney for a marathon, and thought at the very least I could flip through it in the car, and maybe get a couple one liners of inspiration.
Boy was I wrong.
I read the first half on the way down, and the second half on the way back.
If you can appreciate dry humor and benevolent sarcasm then this book is a real treat.
Scott Ludwig is that guy in line behind you at the supermarket, who strikes up a conversation, and just talks to you. He doesn't brag, he doesn't preach, he doesn't coach, he doesn't teach. He just talks. In this case he was talking to me.
Everything everyone has said is true. Take it to heart. This man is an incredible runner, a humorous writer, and an interesting story teller.
Treat yourself, and let him talk to you.

Many years ago, Scott set three distinct running goals for himself: run 100 marathons; run 1000 races; and run 100,000 miles. As of the fall of 2007, Scott had completed 136 marathons, 686 races, and 110,000+ miles. "Two outta three ain't bad." Especially considering it's only a matter of time until he completes 1000 races.

But there's more to it than just the statistics above. Scott has also completed the Western States 100 Miler (after two attempts), and even more impressive, he completed the granddaddy ultramarathon of them all, the 135 mile Badwater Ultramarathon from Death Valley to Mount Whitney (held annually in July, no less!). He has extended his running streak to over 29 years running consecutively every day for over 10,000 days. In 2001 he founded the Darkside Running Club dedicated to ultramarathon runners and began publishing their newsletter, "Tales from the Darkside," the following year. In 2002 the club hosted its first annual Peachtree City 50K, an ongoing certified ultramarathon.

Oh, yeah, in between all that running, he also found time to write and publish a book. All this and much, much more is covered in his tome entitled, Running Through My Mind: Confessions of an Every Day Runner. From the mundane to the outrageous, Scott covers in detail how he got started in running after some false starts at other sports through his current status as one of the best known ultramarathoners in the U.S. Injected with a lethal dose of humor owing to his wry outlook on life, Scott does his literary hero and role model, Lewis Grizzard, proud. Scott includes his whole family in on the act so to speak, including his dog Magic, as each one gets to comment on the influence Scott's running has had on their lives and vice versa.

Fellow runners, Darkside club members, other ultramarathoners, and many others all contribute to make Scott's book a truly diverse journey through the trials and tribulations, achievements and disappointments, and flat out hilarious events encountered during his 30 year running career. So what does Scott have in mind for the next 30 years of running?? You'll just have to buy the book to find out.

April 17th, 1978 was a very special day for me. I still remember it as though it were yesterday. My heart was bursting with pride as I crossed the finish line of my first Boston Marathon! I was on top of the world!

Little did I know that, on that day, there was a guy living in Gainesville, Florida with a 38" waist and weighing 194lbs who would eventually become one of my best friends and would finish ahead of me in every one of the 100 plus races that we have run together over the years! That person, of course, is Scott Ludwig. The unbelievable story of his 30 year running life is the subject of this book.

Scott has two gifts. One is a perseverance that has enabled him to run every single day for almost 30 years, and the other is an amazing talent for writing. His "Lewis Grizzard" style makes for a wonderful read that is hard to put down. Some of his stories will bring tears to your eyes and some will make you fall out of your chair with laughter. And the scary thing is- they're all true!

Rural Routes Roams Readers Down Reminiscent Paths

The author uses several of his own child and adult experiences, of growing up in a community that no longer exists, to describe the evolution of Wisconsin's rural countryside and its people. The basis of his own experiences are combined with observations and reflections Schultz has made about rural Wisconsin during his 29 years of work as a journalist - the last 17 with The Country Today, an Eau Claire-based rural living newspaper.

The photographs Schultz has taken and used in the book capture the life of the rural countryside, and cause readers to pause and reflect what life in this part of the country is all about. The pictures, in isolation, also serve as "story."

During presentations to school and library groups about Rural Routes and Ruts, Schultz is often interrupted by older people saying, "I remember life like that," and younger people saying, "I'm glad I've learned about life like that." After a reading of the book, readers may find themselves in a discussion of the history of rural Wisconsin and the direction in which it's going.

In general, Rural Routes and Ruts: Roaming the Roads of Rural Life is quickly becoming a center of discussion about rural Wisconsin - its past, its present and its future.

Rural Routes & Ruts: Roaming The Roads Of Rural Life is an homage to America's sadly fading beautiful rural countryside, and the homes, people, and way of life that form an integral part of it. Filled with black-and-white photographs and simple vignettes of daily life in the backwoods - from walking in the buff to reach a field shower, to corn-harvest ruts pressed so deep in the road that small animals can wander inside them never to be seen again, to hunting as a rite of passage, celebrated by preparing and eating one's kill. Heartwarming, bringing the travails of daily life to vivid reality, Rural Routes & Ruts is a treasure trove of memories for anyone who wants to revisit the days of country living, or wonders what it's like.

This short, breezy read is really well done. Many catholics incorrectly understand the sacraments either as man-made inventions of the Church or as arbitrary creations by Christ. Gray tackles both misconceptions by clearly showing that the sacraments are merely the final evolution of God's saving grace, that centuries and centuries of salvific force foreshadow and precede them.

For example, in Genesis chapter 22, Issac asks Abraham as they carry wood up the mountain, "Behold, the fire and the wood; but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?" Issac of course was to be the offering, but at the last minute God provides a ram in the thicket. It is interesting to note, however, that it is a ram that is sacrificed and not a lamb. Gray explains why--and how that lamb must eventually be provided (Hint: the Sacrament of the Eucharist!).

Having read five or six books focused specifically on the sacraments, this is probably the most interesting and accessible text of the group, despite being the shortest. It also partners nicely with a more technical study such as Stravinskas' 'Understanding the Sacraments'.

Highly recommended for both devotional and catechetical reading! 95pp

Thoroughly researched, beautifully laid out, and full of concise and clear information. I have read and referred to dozens of books on these subjects while researching a project, and The Sacred East stands out from the crowd. Some of these religious traditions are complex, multi-layered, and difficult for an outsider to penetrate. The text cuts through the myriad details that can hamper a broader understanding, while opening enough topics to allow for further study if desired. Highly recommended.

Western society's intense interest in Eastern culture and religion is best exemplified in this beautifully detailed and comprehensive book. With an engaging look at the history of each of the East's major religions, the authors offer the reader a special insight in the sacred rites and rituals which typify each of these religions. For those who subscribe to Buddhist, Taoist, Shinto philosophy, or Confucian wisdom, it a rare gem of a book, through which Eastern philosophy devotees can command a better appreciation of their tenets and worldviews. Fastidiously detailed, with brilliantly photographed selections of the various sects in costume, architecture and symbolism, the authors also offer a penetrating look into the minds and hearts of the believers, while assisting the reader in a better understanding of Eastern mysticism and metaphysicalism. Editor Scott Littleton and his colleagues have written a "primer extraordinaire" for Eastern religious thought!

Edward Sheriff Curtis dedicated his life's work to documenting the customs and lifeways of the Native American peoples of North America. This extraordinary book includes some of the best photographic examples from Curtis' twenty volume masterpiece, "The North American Indian," one of the most significant representations of traditional indigenous culture ever produced.

Curtis was one of two official photographers for the 1899 Harriman expedition to Alaska. On his return, he stopped in northern Montana, accompanied by George Bird Grinell, editor of Forest and Stream. There he witnesses the deeply sacred Sundance of the Piegan and Blackfoot tribes, a sight which transformed his life. Grinell said to him at that time, "Take a good look. We're not going to see this kind of thing much longer. It already belongs to the past". It became clear to him then, that he was to record, with pen and camera, the life of the North American Indian. By the time the last volume appeared in 1930, little remained of the ancient traditions of the peoples he photographed.

Beginning in 1900 and continuing over the next thirty years, Edward S. Curtis, sometimes called the "Shadow Catcher" by tribes' people, took over 40,000 photographs and recorded ethnographic information from over eighty American Indian tribal groups, ranging from the Eskimo or Inuit people in the North to the Hopi people of the Southwest. In the end, the work comprised twenty textual volumes and twenty portfolios with over 2,000 illustrations.

"Sacred Legacy: Edward S Curtis And The North American Indian" was compiled and published to honor the 100th anniversary of Curtis's project to photograph the North America's indigenous peoples, and is a sacred legacy. This impressive volume beautifully reproduces in luminous images 200 of Curtis's greatest photographs from the finest source materials available - a significant number from platinum, gold and silver prints. Christopher Cardozo, an authority on Curtis, carefully selected the photographs for publication and for the accompanying exhibition. Writers who contribute their work here include: Joseph D. Horse Capture, N. Scott Momaday, and Anne Makepeace.

The photographs are organized by tribes and culture areas, encompassing the Great Plains, California, the Southwest, Plateau Region and Woodlands, Pacific Northwest, and Alaska. These reproductions represent an artistic masterpiece worthy of any collection. This volume is a fitting tribute to Curtis's genius.

"The passing of every man and woman means the passing of some tradition, some knowledge of sacred rights possessed by no other." Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952)

Curtis did an amazing and sympathetic photographic survey of native Americans in the early 20th century. His collection epitomises the changing view of natives, to the broader American society. No longer were they portrayed as bloodthirsty savages. Instead, Curtis took care to show many natives in peaceful surroundings. Often, getting on with everyday chores. A distinguishing aspect is that few of the photos show them brandishing weapons.

Keep in mind that even by the earliest photos, there were very few "wild" natives left in the US. Years earlier, they had been defeated by the US army, and the survivors often relegated to reservations. So what the photos show are domesticated peoples. Nomadic no longer, even if their forebears had been so just a generation ago.

In this sense, Curtis was a generation too late. Had he been a contemporary of Matthew Brady, he might have given us a visual legacy of peoples that were more unassimilated. Though of course he would have risked real injury to himself, in doing so. Still, we should not complain. Curtis did well with what he had, in the era he inhabited.

The works of Edward S. Curtis are monumental and beautiful. This book reproduces them with stunning clarity capturing the luminescence of his orotones remarkably well. The text serves to convey the rich meaning behind the photographs. For anyone interested in photography, art, or the story of the Native Americans, this is a treasure not to be missed.

Great idea and very well done! This is a beautiful, comprehensive, and intelligent guide book that features about 100 of the best trail rides in Colorado. With clear and concise details about degree of difficulty, elevation, dogs, whether or not shoes are recommended, fees, directions, maps, best season to go, and color photos, this book will make a great gift for all the people on my list who have horses and love to take them on trails. The photos are so great that I can picture myself there, especially the ones of places in Colorado I have already been. I love this book!
