Perfect and Extremely DetailedReview Date: 2008-01-27
It perfectly (with lots of details) shows the entire side of a non-well-known Medicine, and becomes a book, in its 3rd Edition, that could be used in Palmer Universities.
Response to Dr. Chowtowski's "Review"Review Date: 2002-11-27
I have never seen such an unprofessional response as yours however. Stuffing the ballet on your referenced site for your own book (yes it was pretty obvious), not to mention the overall lack of professionalism in my opinion. No I?m not an expert in medicine but I know a bit more than you about computer/network technology I would presume.
Then again, I'm just a simpleton. I have no particular stake here one way or the next. I'm not a practicing physician. I?m not even in health care. I'm just a technology guy. (You know, a programmer in C, C++, Ada95, LISP etc.) (I also enjoy the study and design of operating systems and Artificial Intelligence applications) I know... so how DARE I question the almighty physician right?
I've also read your review of New York Chiropractic College. Very strange indeed. You would have to be blind not to find the research lab and it's millions of dollars worth of research equipment.
Odd as well that you chose to accost the tour guide with medical questions. I'm sure the tour guide was a fantastic intellectual boost for you. The Dean seemed,(from your account, I've haven't spoken with him yet), to be kinder and simply choose to give you a book and send you on your way. If I had to put up with your attitude I guess I would have done the same.
Funny as many medical doctors I've spoken with are extremely impressed with the academic rigors of NYCC's curriculum. Particularly those at Bethesda Naval Hospital, where students from New York Chiropractic College often intern. But then again what the heck would I know. I'm just a simple technology guy. What hospital do you work at again?
Tell me again about medical school. Do they still teach neat things in medical school like logic/rhetoric/debate? (They did in the military academy I attended.) If they do, then surely you realize that your statement in which you asked the Dean to? (And I am paraphrasing) ? Prove that Chiropractic is not bunk.? is asking to prove a negative. Under the rules of debate and logic, (you did take that right?) it is, of course impossible to prove a negative.
If you lack the ability to research JAMA, JMT or other peer reviewed journals that is your issue, not the Dean of the school. It sounds to me like you?re more jealous of New York Chiropractic Colleges campus than anything else.
Again please excuse me, I'm a simple technology guy, not a super-all-knowing medical doctor, any mistakes here are my own doing and no one else?s and this is just my simple opinion:
What do Chiropractors do? (A very simple question)
A: Think of the Chiropractor as a conservative health practitioner. Trained in differential diagnosis, the latest diagnostic procedures (You know similar in function to a general practitioner who really knows a lot about orthopedics). They recommend dietary changes/improvements, lifestyle recommendations, exercise if warranted, various physiotherapeutic regimens, and can do allergy work-ups, prescribe orthotics, do X-Ray, MRI, CAT or other radiological diagnostic imaging procedures, utilize multi-class LASAR modalities etc. and when appropriate, they refer to the appropriate allopathic physician (i.e. surgeon, medical specialist etc.) Often those same allopathic physicians refer patients to chiropractors.
There is much more but I digress. I don?t have room here to explain everything and I?m just a simple guy. I don?t have all the answers.
Surely someone of your obvious superior medical talent has better things to do than lambaste a complementary profession? Obviously there is much more to being a Chiropractic Physician and this is just a very simple, general overview, and you understand what I?m saying.
Maybe you don't.
Or maybe.....just maybe.... it's because you and the de-licensed Stephen Barrett (Who has lost every recent court case he's been involved in and is accused of racketeering if I read the court papers correctly) feel a certain amount of fear or envy regarding Dr. Haldemans abilities. After all, he is a triple doctorate holding DC,MD and Ph.D. degrees. You're degree was as an MD correct?
You graduated in 1945 right?
Maybe it's because you and the five or six other people in your organization (which in my opinion is full of quackery itself) seem to crave the media so much and have something to hide? I think in Psych 101 we called it Shadow Projection (to use a Jungian Term) I don't know. Actions sure speak louder than words though. I see Dr. Holdeman at many medical review panels and neurological symposiums.
Funny.... I haven't seen you at any of the neurology symposiums presenting research to contrast what Dr. Holdeman has been saying. Maybe it's because you can't.

Encore! Encore! Playing the flute is fun AND easy!Review Date: 2001-05-05
The book goes through the necessary steps including how to make a sound (which is easier said than done), fingering, charts, and the language of music. It is simple, fun and you'll be anything but frustrated! It may be a bit juvenile (come on, the first songs you learn are "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and so on) but it is still a very worthwhile investment. If you're serious about learning to play the flute, this is the beginner's book of choice!

Rachel SmilesReview Date: 2004-02-19
Rachel Smiles is the 3rd book of a 3 book series. It was written by Darrell Scott with Steve Rabey. It tells stories of peoples' lives which Rachel has been a part of and touched.
One very interesting thing happend to Rachel's family, and Darrell talks about it in this book, is a dream that a man named Frank Amedia had. Frank was a total stranger to the Scott family. He lived in Ohio, and he had watched Rachel's funeral on CNN. He called Darrell, and wanted to know if he knew anything about his dream. The dream was a vision of Rachel's eyes crying a stream of tears. The tears were watering something, but Frank didn't know what. Darrell said he didn't know what the dream meant. About a week later, the police station called to say that the Scotts could pick up Rachel's backpack, which was being hed as evidence. As Rachel's family went through her bag, they found Rachel's latest journal, with a bullet hole through it. The last entry was put in 15 minutes before Rachel Scott was murdered. It was a drawing of eyes crying 13 tears (the number of people killed that day) watering a columbine flower, that was dripping blood. Mr. Scott immediately thought of Frank Amedia.
Personally, I think Rachel Smiles is a great book. After reading it, I feel like I know Rachel Scott. It's an uplifting, non-fiction book, that seems to pull you in as you read. This amazing book can be found on www.amazon.com . You may also visit the web-site to find out how to purchase any other books written by Darrell Scott: www.rachelscott.com . I highly recommend this book t anyone wanting a refreshing, uplifting, all-around good book.

A Great Buy!Review Date: 2001-12-18
You can't really go wrong with this package, it's got background resource material for the Goatswood area and a nice bundle of scenarios that look like fun to run (I can't wait to spring some of them on my group! HEH HEH HEH) I don't want to give away any spoilers but there's an S&M club, and the "GUARD" at the club is such a wicked idea not to mention the dude who runs the place. Good to see Ramsey the man himself giving the introduction, read his Silent Children book if you really want to get chills!
The artwork is decent, and lots of it. Plenty of handouts too, which are really important as far as I am concerned. One thing I could do without though is the side illustrations, they take up too much room that could maybe be used for information. But that's a small jibe compared to the value.

How do you like your rattlesnake?Review Date: 2008-06-22
Fun and educational!Review Date: 2008-06-13
So no matter how cold the weather is, there goes brave Pa hunting after the snakes. And as he hunts them, he fantasizes about the various ways Gran could cook them--hot on a plate, fried, sliced on white rice, hmmm... But no way will his dreams ever become a reality, for as readers will learn "...snake cooked for Pa was not in Gran's plan. She dreamed of them sweetened and made into jam." Though Gran swears her special jam can cure colds, gout and wheeze, not to mention "troublesome knees", everyone dislikes the taste of her ghastly creation. Will Gran ever stop? And what would happen to Pa, if she ever did?
Colliers's colorful, wacky illustrations complement Finke's humorous rhyme perfectly. Gran is grossly comical with her toothless grin, warts, bell pepper nose, and tough exterior. The reader will feel sorry for Pa, who seems completely under Gran's control. The book has 28 pages in all, and each story page has an illustration with a short text at the bottom--a two or four line rhyme, like this one:
Drop in chunky slices, stir well with a spoon.
Add mysterious spices! Gran hummed a wild tune.
The way to Gran's heart was through rattlers galore--
Making rattler jam bubble, `til it flowed on the floor.
The song-like cadence will be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Snakes are reptiles that inspire both fear and fascination, especially in children, and it was clever of the author to use them as victims instead of villains in this book. This is a fine addition to Finke's series of rhyming books about animals. Whimsical and amusing, Rattlesnake Jam is one of those books young children will beg their parents to read to them again and again.

As a mother, I was also moved by the touching poems about the death of the young daughter. So poignant!
As a southerner, I could well relate to the fried chicken, the porch swings and the rocking chairs. A very short poem entitled "A Pebble" held a special message for me. Every family must have a "rock."
There were many experiences, thoughts and emotions expressed in the poetry in this book. I highly recommend it!

Poetry written from a theological perspective -- it worksReview Date: 2002-08-03
The second section "The Recovered Midrashim of Rabbi Sab", in contrast, shows a very inventive poet writing distinctive, meaningful prose poems. "YHWH's Image" presents an image of Time which pauses, twitches its tail, opens it's eyes while God creates creates humanity in his own image, a precise image molded in clay on God's body. "The Turning of Lot's Wife" shows the wife as the compassionate one: "... she could not turn her back on even one doomed child of the city, but must turn her back instead upon the saved." "In the Well of Joseph's Brief Despair" presents the view of the world from the bottom of the well - and its continuing effect on Joseph after his life was spared.
The final section "Supplications" presents two strong themes - Hebrew vs. Greek thought patterns and the value of body. The topics supporting these themes include religious stylites (monks living on small, high platforms, the harrowing of hell, the death of the crucified man headed for paradise, Mary Magdalen ... in these poems the same formal strengths appear that appear in the first section. However, here Cairns more frequently has something uncommon to say.
