The item is great, but I paid for overnight delivery and didn't get it until a couple days later. Although I was refunded for the amount I paid for overnight, the problem was I needed it and so I ended up paying to have the music downloaded from musicnotes.com site. Thanks, Karen

As the saying goes, seen the movie, got the T shirt and now have a book of the sheet music. It's fab. I could not wait to play the music from the movie, that I just adore, and from the CD that I have on constantly in the car, and I was not disappointed. Twelve great songs that are really quite easy to play, lyrics too, to sing a long with. If you loved the music from the movie, and you are itching to recreate it a 'tad' from the comfort of your own home, you will love this book.

This Is How It Should Be Done!

The vocal selections from HAIRSPRAY is an example of how vocal selections SHOULD be done. In fact, it's more than "selections": it's the whole damn score! (See my review of the vocal selections from LI'L ABNER for the other end of the spectrum.) And what a brilliant score it is, too. It's the finest musical score since the 60s, before rock operas invaded us. No Andrew Lloyd Webber-type one-hit score this: Every song is a gem. I haven't encountered that since GYPSY and WEST SIDE STORY. Some of this is probably too difficult for the average pianist...but it beats those made-easy folios that offer little in the way of flavor. I'm thrilled by the score and by this folio. VERY highly recommended!

The Most Complete Songbook

Having now purchased both the Broadway and Movie songbooks for this musical, the movie version is more complete and therefore longer than the stage equivalent. There are still songs missing, however, such as "Big Dolls House". It is an opportunity missed by the publishers to include not only all the new material written for the film but to add in those songs missed out from the Broadway songbook. Here the arrangements are somewhat different and some keys changed. A very good songbook, though, of a terrific musical, and most definately recommended.

I love the movie and I love this book!

Being a musician, I wanted the most thourough piano arrangements I could find for this soundtrack. This book is a complete re-tooling of the broadway selections with several benifits, including EVERY song on the motion picture soundtrack and even EVERY INDIVIDUAL NOTE on the soundtrack CD! I love this is places where it was different from the broadway version, especially the new ending on "You Can't Stop The Beat" and the short extensions made in "Welcome To The 60's."

Most of these arrangements are very advanced, which works for me because they sound wonderful! Many incorporate the melody into the right hand, but it can be easily removed if you're just looking for accompniments to sing with.

Worth it!

Definitive Hairspray Sheet Muisc-- Fantastic!

Review Date: 2007-08-30
This songbook contains a full 172 pages of sheet music, representing not only every single song on the Hairspray Soundtrack, but every single measure of each song. From what I can tell, there are NO cuts, no trimmed sections, no simplified keys... all of which sets this book apart from other Movie songbooks.

The book is written in Piano/Vocal format, with the piano doubling the melody for most sections of the book. The arrangers made sure, however, to include enough accompaniment so the songs stay true to the cd. There are guitar chords above the staff which are often helpful as well.

Another major feature of the book- all the songs include the relevant harmonies and vocal parts to supplement the melody if you have other singers available as you play the songs.

The arrangements are appropriately challenging at first glance, but seem to be playable enough as you try them a few times.

Even though I already own the great Piano/Vocal Selections of the Broadway Show, I don't mind saying this book is the better and more complete version in my opinion.

In 2005, I had the good fortune to meet Scott Primiano and begin an incredible journey - both personally and professionally. For our business (a risk management consulting company), Hard Market Selling has transformed the way we do business... It showed us how to properly develop referral opportunities and cross sell. It described a structured and logical approach to delivering Value Added Services, and brought us the ability of "Priority Management," so that we were spending our time on what is titled as "High Payoff Activities." However, the results speak for themselves. As a company we increased our sales by 250%, and we're on our way to similar growth in the years to come. We are grateful to the jewels found in Scott's book and approach to developing companies. Thank you.

Sincerely,

It's about time someone wrote a DEFINITIVE book on sellng Porperty and Casualty Insurance in a tough marketplace.

But hard or soft market aside, Hard Market Selling is a "MUST" book to read, hold, refer to and distribute to anyone in the sales business.

We've referred it to our 2500+ insurance agency force...and will keep on doing so, no matter the difficulty of the marketplace.

It is purely and simply the best book I've ever read on selling in our industry...or any other for that matter.

He has taken the best from research and with his practical down-to-earth writing style inspires and motivates couples to reaffirm and deepen their heart commitment to each other. If more couples read this book and followed Dr. Stanley's excellent advice, divorce attorneys would be looking for another job. It is by far the best thing I have read on the subject of commitment!

I have read and browsed many a book on relationships to get through the typically rough first couple years of marriage. This is the first that actually offered sincere and truthful advice and inspiring thoughts. What I liked best is that Women are given as much of the blame as the guys are... This is very refreshing from the crap Ive read from Smalley.

A good read and some helpful things to consider.. Very intelligent reading.

If every couple read this before they got married I think the divorce rate would be a whole lot lower!

dry, flaking, itchy discolored skin is clearing and dandruff is gone! Nice dividend! Get the book!

The information in this book is long overdue. The Hidden Story of Cancer reveals not only the primary cause of all cancer but what you can do to avoid the possibility of contracting it. It also exposes as myths and fallacies many of the things you have been led to believe as true...such as causes of cancer, the dangers of certain foods and supplements. I urge you, if this interests you, to not wait for this book to show up on book selling websites as it may not, but to go directly to his website www.brianpeskin.com and get this book! The website also has very useful and valuable information on it. I wish I had known this information long ago, it would have kept me cancer free...that I truly believe.

As in "Cheap Seats", Poole demonstrates not only an amazing control of the written word, but of the universe as a whole. "Hiding from Salesmen" is a book that takes place in the mind of a lunatic, but a lunatic who creates a place you want to be. It is amazing how he takes a reader into places that at first seem striking only for their humor, but under the surface are poignant, touching and illuminating. With a quick turn of phrase Poole shows us that there is emotional clarity in his universe and it is mirrored in our own. Brilliant.

Hiding From Salesmen is a collection of wry poems by Scott Pools that mix humor with quizzical insight and a dash of the fantastic. Black-and-white surrealist illustrations by Robert Helm enhance this unforgettable collection. The Sexy Shakers: Shaker architecture is as simple as sex./Two naked elms in a field wait to be/wooden bowls filled with light./Each scratch visible./Staircases. The sound of rising and descending steps/into clouds of bleached wood./Rows upon rows of plain drawers without labels.//All doors are open. The hinges greased./Cold air dances without music./A Shaker house is as sexual as a waiting skillet.//I don't care what you think./The Shakers are the sexiest people.//All their chairs are empty.

Power must be equal for sex to be consensual
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-07-04
In the Hired Hand, Donna Scott tells the story of a woman sexually abused by her pastor. Part One tells The Setup: the issues that brought Renee to pastoral counseling, details of how Pastor Smith sexualized their counseling sessions, an explanation of the danger signals that might have alerted Renee if she had not been wounded and trusting of her pastor, a look inside the head of the hired hand contrasted with that of a good shepherd, and words to clergy exhorting them to not harm those who turn to them for healing and to not ignore other pastors who do.

In Part Two, Disclosure and Denial, we learn what happens when a woman tries to report her abuse. Scott explains the denial by the abuser, the denial by others, and the distortions of reality blaming the victim for what has happened. She devotes several pages to explaining why, although she is an adult, no woman who has gone to her pastor for counseling can ever give consent to a sexualized relationship and why she is never at fault. She quotes the ethics statements of five national professional organizations: psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, marriage and family therapists, and Christian counselors. Each forbid any sexual contact between their members and those they serve. She ends this section with why pastors try to pass the buck instead of accepting responsibility for what happened, what God has to say about those who abuse, and words to clergy and congregations.

Part Three is devoted to The Aftermath, discussing in detail how the victim is impacted by the abuse: guilt, impaired ability to trust, ambivalence, emptiness and isolation, emotional volatility, suppressed anger, sexual confusion, increased suicidal risk, role reversal and boundary disturbance, and cognitive dysfunction.

The book concludes with an Afterward, endnotes, a bibliography, and an extensive resource list including books, videos, organizations, and support groups.

So few people understand the necessity for equality in power in order for sex to be consensual. Ms. Scott does and she says it over many times in this book. Let's send copies to Hillary, who refers to her husband's "affairs". Let's send copies to all the reporters who refer to abused parishioners as having had "affairs" with their pastors. Let's give copies to all the Catholic bishops who think only children can be abused by priests. Let's make copies available to members of congregations whose pastor has abused women. Let's give copies to our family, friends and neighbors, and let us pray they read them!

This Book Speaks the Truth

...I thank God for inspiring Ms. Scott to write such an honest and true book about what happens when a trusted man of the cloth betrays a congregant. Words cannot express the devastation the victim and her family experience when a pastor crosses boundaries....The victim becomes the scarlet harlot and the perpetrator (pastor/ex-pastor) often garners sympathy and pity from the congregation. Ms. Scott has done an excellent job of shedding the true light on this type of abuse. I applaud her for "speaking" for thousands of us who have been victimized in our "houses of faith" and still cannot speak publicly for ourselves because of the continued pain, embarassment, humiliation, and intimidation we experience. She offers us encouragement and hope. If you truly want to find out what it means to be sexually abused by a pastor/priest/rabbi, read Ms. Scott's book. She speaks the truth. To those professionals who are entrusted with seeking the truth, preventing this type of boundary violation, and providing recovery services to victims and families, please wake up and take your responsibility seriously. Stop the sinful secrets, lies, and cover-ups in our churches. Thank you, Ms. Scott, for your bravery in providing this thought provoking and credible resource.

Speaking as a csa survivor...

The Hired Hand, by Donna E. Scott, is an honest and well written book about clergy sexual abuse. I am a survivor of such abuse and I believe her observations and conclusions to be just and revealing. I was particularily drawn to the parts where Ms. Scott reports how many church families (secondary victims) respond badly to the primary victims. I loved and trusted my church family. They, however, made me the scapegoat for the losses they suffered when the silence was finally broken. To this day, 2 and 1/2 years after I broke the silence, many continue to harass me in my place of work. Ms. Scott's book gives me a feeling of not being alone in that regard.

Ms. Scott begins by drawing a distinction between two types of leaders based on John 10. One is the Good Shepherd and as such represents all that is good and to be honored and trusted in our clergy. The other is the Hired Hand. Ms. Scotts book needs to be read to give a clear picture reguarding the manner in which the vulnerable are manipulated by the hired hand. Hired hands rape souls and steal lives. This book is a window through which the reader can "see" how boundary violations happen. It also allows the reader to look inside the head of these cunning thieves.

This is a book for both primary and secondary victims. It is a "must read" for church leaders many of whom remain unfortunately uneducated to the issues involved in clergy sexual abuse. It contains much information as to how a church may validate the primary victims as well as heal from the trama they, themselves, endure when the trusted clergy betrays that trust. Ms. Scott reminds us all, that clergy wear a collar that says "I am trustworthy" that "I speak for God" and the wounding which occures when trusted clergy are revealed as the predators they are, is devistating to all the victims.

A "Must Have" book for information and encouragement!

I have read dozens of books on the subject, but The Hired Hand most accurately describes and discusses the problems that occur when a clergyman in power brings harm to one of his sheep through sexual boundary violation. Author Donna Scott speaks with authority and compassion about the feelings and events that the victim and church is likely to face. By following the life events of one victim, she speaks for all victims and does something many other similar books do not do - she offers hope of survival and recovery from this awful trauma. I would recommend it to EVERYONE in a congregation that has faced clergy sexual misconduct. It would also be helpful to any shepherd who wants to truly care for and protect his sheep.

I've written a couple of 1-star product reviews, so it's about time I had something good to say. (See, I actually was paying attention, Mom!)

This book contains a load of beginner-oriented advice on equipment buying. Unfortunately, I learned a few of the lessons the hard way when I started playing a few years ago. There is also plenty of info relevant to the more experienced player, such as which portions of a skate boot can be custom fit and how it is done. I didn't know that helmets had expiration dates, did you? It makes perfect sense; all my safety equipment at work has one, so why not a hockey helmet? It's just something I never thought about.

Everything is presented with an incredible sense of humor, making it a quick and easy read. The various "why not to buy used equipment" parts are particularly amusing (to me). I also like the handy tip about using the face mask as a bottle opener.

If you are just thinking about playing hockey or if you are in the market for some new equipment, this is well worth the $10. I wish I had read this before I purchased my first stuff a few years ago.

Excellent book full of humor...perfect for any beginner

This book was great. It helped straighten out a few things I was not sure about with equipment in hockey and how it should fit. Wish I had bought it before I started my first season instead of half way through. His humor is great and most of what he jokes about if you've played hockey you can relate too. Several times I found myself laughing out loud. This isn't going to tell you what drills to work on to be a good player, or even how to shoot a puck better than you do already. What this will do is explain the equipment, what its used for, how to wear it, and when to buy it. He goes through every piece of the sport that a new person should get to know before going out and playing. Explaining the positions, the rules, getting in with the refs, rec league stuff, and even what beer to bring for after the game with your new team. This book is a must read for any new hockey player and would be a great read for those who have played hockey just to get some good laughs. Its not a long book so it should take much to knock it out even if your not much of a reader (like me).

A fun read. For the rookie, a great book to provide some street (or rink) smarts. For more experienced players it includes great information on buying new equipment. The chapter on skate buying is probably the best, and will save people (or at the very least be worth) the $10 they pay for the book in getting the right skates. Doesn't include much in the way of even basic strategy, which could maybe be volume 2.

"How Wall Street Works" by David Logan Scott is so simply written that even a novice can be assured of acquiring a basic and clear understanding of the world of finance. The question and answer format gives brief and concise explanations without the clutter of the usual confusing and unnecessary jargon. I particularly appreciated the analogies to common-day experiences and the "bottom line" style summaries at the beginning and not the end of the chapters. It is the one and only Hsu and Chan. Alternatively, the Tanaka brothers for short. Straight from the pages of one the most leading gaming magazines of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Hsu and Chan now have their very own comic book chock full of their misadventures! Hsu and Chan are video game designers with a very odd team of animals that follow along with the fun. Nevertheless, there are also rival game designers ready to pounce when the time is right. Hsu and Chan - The Nostalgia

Since its appearances in the humble pages of EGM, since its dramatic and hilarious inception (Pocket Morons), since the creator's knighthood by England, Hsu and Chan has quickly established itself a cult favorite.

We don't mean a cult has actually formed AROUND the comic, but, quite frankly, someone should start one.

At any rate, visit http://www.ape-law.com/evilmonkey for more Jeremy Norman Scott goodies.
