Tragic Flaws by Scott EvansReview Date: 2008-07-02
Evans' has penned a flawless mystery that is gripping, with plenty of red herrings, and a plot that is fast-paced with a surprising end. Joseph Conrad, a professor of English, finds himself caught up in a nightmare after he discovers a dead body. From the opening chapter, to the exciting ending, this is a book you'll find hard to put down.
Evans skillfully weaves his love of the English language with an intriguing tale of mystery and suspense. You'll learn a little about great literature and be entertained. What a winning combination!

Harnartia/Tragic Flaws/Catch 22 Review Date: 2008-06-29
How do I share why Tragic Flaws gripped my intellect and a gamut of my emotions, page after page, without ruining the story for those of you that have not read the novel? Although a prime suspect in the case, I intrinsically believed that Joe Conrad was not the diabolical psychopathic predator that murdered young women. Believing that didn't help me one iota; it was my personal Catch 22 as the reader. Although I felt that Joe did not deserve being "a person of interest," I had to concede that he did make enough mistakes in his choices/judgments (as we all can innocently do) that suspicion could stack up against him. Could and did.
I pictured my husband in Joe's ill-fated shoes; I could see how difficult it would be for him to defend himself against such accusations. The tension Scott Evans employs to accomplish this exasperating dilemma for the reader, the volatile balancing act he maintains is excellent.
If I were Joe, what the hell would I do? Like many of us who are regular people in society with families, jobs, routines, and lives that are not often, if ever, in the harsh media spotlight, Joe stumbles into that probing spotlight a stunned, frustrated, and desperate man.
Read Tragic Flaws. I believe you'll be riveted by this story.

Characters brought to lifeReview Date: 2007-06-24
A beautiful story of an entire town's redemption through love.Review Date: 2005-12-05
SuprisedReview Date: 2004-03-27
This book is an allegory of spiritual awakening and enlightenment. At least I believe it is. A secondary character appears to really be an angel. Another's words are shadowy paraphrases from collections like the Bible. I'm sure there is much much more. You don't find novels like this very often - real literature in a commercial style. Each time I read a section, I find myself wondering "what is Baillie really saying?" Its a fun game.
Lucas, the main character, is so real, his emotions, his thoughts so authentic. His love of "the girl next door" moved me to tears. His "Poorest-kid-in-town" friend Scabby broke my heart, too. The beauty inside of him, erases the tarnish on the outside. Heather, the love interest, is a complex young woman, with a burden so huge it can't be shouldered by anybody. She is an emblem of strength and fraility, blended into one. The town in this story is hellish; maybe it is Hell. I don't know. But it feels so dark and evil.
This book is outstanding and Baillie has a gift. Is this the "great American novel"? Well, no. But it is far better than most of the contemporary works out there. I couldn't put it down. I recommend it highly.
A Powerful Coming of Age StoryReview Date: 2004-03-04
This story intrigues with little-known information on mining, it inspires laughter at the situations young adults find themselves in and it evokes tears.
I found that I cared about the characters and didn't want anything bad to happen to them--this is a very enjoyable read.
ImpressiveReview Date: 2003-10-03
The main character of the story is so identifiable, so real, I could feel his every emotion and every frustration. I did not want the story to end.
I have already recommended this book to my book club and to my family. I hope this isn't Baille's only effort. He has touched a deep part of the human experience and left its impact on me. This book is from a small publisher. I believe that it could be a major book someday. Lets hope so.

the Boxcar Children #7Review Date: 2002-03-01
I think this book is so good because you never know what will happen next, like when the children find the trap door in the woodshed and then they find the trap door in the potato pit! The moral of this story is never play with some thing that isn't yours.

One of my all-time favourite Boxcar Children adventuresReview Date: 2002-09-28
I first read it when I was about eight and learnt several things I didn't know before. I learned what ammunition meant. It also was my first introduction to any information about the Revolutionary War.
The story takes place primarily on a farm in New England that dates back to the 1700's. Grandfather and Aunt Jane grew up there, and he buys it back for her to live in. But everyone seems to think something is wrong with the house, and the children set out to find out what it is and clear the air of all secrets. And they are pretty sure the woodshed holds an important clue.
Read this book to your children - I am sure they will like it.

His writing style is easy to read, the concepts covered are easy to follow and apply, and best of all, he provides specific advice on the investment strategies that you need to follow to succeed in today's stock market.
Buy the book. It will be the best $20 you have spent in a long time.
GREAT BOOKReview Date: 2003-12-16
Despite the fact that the author works for Fidelity Investments and promotes Fidelity (and other financial services firms) in the book, he seems to have a genuine interest in helping average investors invest more successfully for retirement. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. If there is one book on investing that you read in the next 12 months, this should be it.

Saved Me Money !Review Date: 2003-12-19
Scott Magnacca's book is straightforward and gave me a lot of common sense- but not obvious- tips and ideas that I have been able to quickly use and apply to more effectively manage my portfolio and save money.
I highly reccomend it. If your planning for a "Successful Retirement" this should be required reading.

The book was an easy read and shared a variety of 'real world' examples and case studies on how to apply each of the 7 strategies.
Unlike most financial books, this book wasn't filled with numbers and formulas. Just good, practical and easy to use advice.
I especially enjoyed the chapters on "tax-efficient investing" and how to evaluate and pick a financial advisor.

One more secret!Review Date: 2004-12-15
Anyone, from novice to seasoned pro, interested in earning money making pictures needs this book. I am a serious amateur photographer. I plan to turn my photography into a lucrative hobby when I retire in several years. Thanks to 88 Secrets I will not have to waste time testing what will work. Scott Bourne gives the reader of his book a proven track record to follow.
Buy this book. You will find it invaluable when you put Scott Bourne's recommendations into action.
Simple and EffectiveReview Date: 2005-04-03
It doesn't tell you anything about equipment, or picture taking, or processing, or even how to run a photography business. It doesn't even take a comprehensive approach to marketing. Instead it provides useful tips on marketing photography, period. Moreover, Bourne doesn't just limit himself to one market, like stock photography. He covers all the markets and if one secret isn't applicable to you, the next one may be right up your alley.
Calling it "88 Secrets" is a misnomer, because many of the ideas contained are simple common sense that someone interested in selling pictures could figure out for him or herself. Secondly, there are far more than 88 secrets because many of sections called secrets contain more than one idea for marketing.
The reader will sometimes say, I knew that, sometimes say, I should have known that, and sometimes say, I never thought of that. But if you read the book and you follow some of the tips, you will increase sales of your pictures. Although the book is quite short, it's also inexpensive and the person willing to follow Bourne's advice will soon amortize the cost of the book. It probably won't put you in direct competition with Art Wolfe, but it will increase your photographic income if you have the will power to follow the tips.
For example, the author discusses a traditional subject, query letters to editors to whom one hopes to sell pictures. He tells you what has to go into a letter if you want to get the editor's attention. He even provides a sample letter.
In the very next paragraph, Bourne discusses something relatively new, e-books and how to go about publishing them. He even suggests software that will ease the work, and even how to structure an e-book. He says photography e-books are most popular if they take a how-to, travel, or adventure approach. "It will be easier to sell an e-book that features pictures of Yellowstone National Park if it is written as a travelogue rather than an attractive Yellowstone picture book."
I've read a few books on marketing pictures and sometimes find reasonable marketing advice buried in the verbiage. Often it's aimed at just one market. Here it's simple and effective. All one has to do is read a secret and follow it. And of course, take a reasonably good picture.
Wasn't what I thought it would be. My fault.Review Date: 2006-02-24
Essential reading for anyone wanting to market their photos.Review Date: 2004-11-29
The three divisions of the book are well thought out. As I considered marketing my photos the section on "general secrets" was very helpful. The last two sections provide valuable information on who to contact for sales and all the issues that need to be considered to complete a successful business transaction.
