Great sound

This music has a great sound! Some of the lyrics are a bit awkardly constructed, but the overall sound makes up for it. It's addictive, and once you hear a song, you want to hear it over and over again, since just humming the catchy tunes to yourself does not give you the full effect. There is a lot of vocal and rhythmic variety, even within any given song. If the lyrics were more coherent I'd give it five stars. The sad thing is that some people think this music is already outdated. I think it's timeless!

Title: Diversion of the Soul

Author: Dawn Rowe

At last Isobel, Jacob and little Edward are living their dream- a home in the country. Or is it the beginning of a nightmare that will tear the family apart?

Orange Stream Farm is a lovely Devon country home and Isobel feels that she is finally where she should be. Jacob, still commuting to London is not really experiencing the joy of country life. Little Edward simply loves the neighbour, Rita and is overjoyed to spend as much time with the older woman as possible. Isobel meets people who share her love of horses and life is good. Then one day she meets Adam Docherty.

Is our life on earth programmed before we arrive? Do we have multiple lifetimes to learn our life lessons? Can we ever be finished learning and fulfill our spiritual goals? Diversion of the Soul will have you asking these questions as you are drawn into a spiritual pact that has gone on for several lifetimes. Will Isobel finally do the right thing and share eternity with her soul mate? Read to the end and find out.

Dawn Rowe lives in Hampshire, England where she practices reiki and is a tarot reader. Her interest in the paranormal is evident throughout the book and she presents it in a most intriguing way. A romantic, heart-wrenching tale, this book will appeal to many readers. The characters become friends as we are drawn into their individual dramas. Well written, suspenseful and a good read. Highly recommended by Reviewer: Shirley Roe, Allbooks Review.

I like this book but is not a self study, due its function is communication skill, you need to work in a classroom otherwise could be boring, the lessons are driven to chat in a group and make the lesson iteractives.
Good luck.

1918

In his fourth appearance, Will Beaman investigates rumors that the 1918 World Series between the Red Sox and Cubs is going to be fixed. The distraction of World War I, the threat of a mysterious influenza epidemic, the dissatisfaction of poorly paid baseball players, and the turmoil of labor disputes help to create an environment unfavorable to professional sports. Gamblers, though, sense an opportunity to capitalize on the nation's problems. During the last month of the season and in the six-game Series, Beaman checks out some of the suspicious people who attend the games at Fenway Park in an effort to see if the rumors can be substantiated. In the process, he meets members of the IWW (or Wobblies), who are trying to get ballplayers into the union. He also confronts a gang of bullies from the American Protection League (looking for German sympathizers), and,as usual, cavorts with real baseball players (particularly Carl Mays and Harry Hooper) and other historical figures of the era. Despite the threat of a strike, the Red Sox win the Series behind the pitching of Babe Ruth, and there is no evidence of a fix. Besides his sleuthing, Beaman writes for a magazine dedicated to fair labor practices and has affairs with two beautiful women. Will Beaman is definitely back in form. The quality of the novel, like in its three predecessors, depends on the effective blending of history, baseball, and fiction--much in the manner of the famous baseball mysteries of Troy Soos.

Good Reference Material
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-30
This isn't the kind of book that's meant to be read cover to cover, but that's exactly what I did, because I'm a freak. Basically, it's an encyclopedic reference of biblical terminology (terms like sin, kingdom, son of man, etc.). Each entry includes the original Greek and/or Hebrew words/phrases from which the English term is translated, several examples of the term being used in the bible, and an explanation of what the term originally meant. In many cases, it's drastically different than how we use the term today. For example, the terms we translate as "repent" really just mean "to change one's mind." And the term "born again" has a double meaning that would have been apparent to the original Greek-speaking audience but is completely lost in translation. The ward "again" in Greek is also the word for "above," (and it's used in both senses elsewhere in the scriptures) so "born again" also means "born above."

Because so much of the text involves explaining the Hebrew and Greek, Literal to Literary could have been rightly called The Essential Reference Book for Biblical Language. But the theme of metaphors features consistently throughout. In some cases, the metaphors are overt, like in Jesus' parables for example. In other cases, the authors present metaphorical interpretations of passages and themes that are presented literally. This approach seems to be aimed toward agnostics and non-fundamentalist Christians, who do not believe the bible is literally true or inerrant, but don't discount it outright either.

My only reservation about this book is that the authors interject too much of their own opinions and bias into the text. Although their biases are very much like my own, I prefer a reference book to be more neutral in tone, and I think the interjection of opinion will keep this work from being embraced by some of the people who would get the most out of it. On the whole though, I highly recommend From Literal to Literary to anyone interested in the bible, whether religiously or historically.

Evil doings Down Under

Quick, name an Australian mystery. OK, maybe you could name one or two, but I bet you wouldn't name this one.

Aunt Alice's annual apple harvest (did you know they grew apples in Australia? I didn't) is not the usual fun and games. In fact, the atmosphere is fairly poisonous. But not as poisonous as the apples that apparently killed Damien, estranged husband of Alice's great-niece Anna. Everyone who helps at harvest time is supposed to be one big happy family. So why do they all seem to hate each other? And who was Damien really talking to the night before he died?

I enjoyed this mystery and would love to read more in this series. It's well-written and the characters are good. My only complaint is that in some places (especially the end) it tends to drag a little bit. But I recommend it anyway.

You don't have to wait for Halloween to enjoy this book--kids will enjoy it any time. The author's imagination is in fine form. The cats are appealing, the witch is to boo for, and the underlying message is subtle.

Excellent Historical Study of The Boston Harbor Islands

Most Bostonians can view several of the harbor islands as they look eastward. However, to visit the islands requires a pass on one of the water shuttles that leave daily from Long Wharf. Anyone visiting these island must find a copy of this book. (Now out of Print). An easy, short read on the 300 yrs of legends and facts built on these islands.

A little deeper into the high renaissance
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-29
I'm not an academic on architecture, I simply love he buildings of the renaissance an can look at theme for hours, but this book was accessibly written in my opinion. All the major architects are presented and their work described. Here you find the information that coffee-table-books (by their nature) lack. Put the two together and you understand the era so much better. Architecture is i visual art and must be viewed, if not on location, at least by pictures. And thats why my fith stars is missing, it's sparesly illustrated, too sparesly for me as the topic is architecture.
