An engaging exploration of Paul's interaction with scriptures in Romans 9-11 and 15

J. Ross Wagner's doctoral thesis builds upon the intertextual work of Richard Hays to examine the manner in which Paul interprets scripture in Romans 9-11 and 15. This is a very helpful work which opens up these very difficult chapters by examining the voices that Paul is referencing or alluding to and then shows how these voices in concert with Paul's encounter with the gospel of Jesus Christ shape his message. Heralds of the Good News is a deep engagement with Romans but is also readable for a person with some background in New Testament studies.

Great book, lots of useful detail, just slightly outdated
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.

This book provides an excellent overview of how to architect and create intelligent software agents that operate over the web. Case studies are covered in some depth and include STORE, a personalized department store application, CFIT, an application to prevent Controlled Flight into Terrain, and CHAIN, a supply chain example application.

The examples in the book are not strictly academic toys. I invented a financial agent system in 1999 that was subsequently purchased by America On-Line. The structure of agent interactions of that commercially implemented system is exactly as shown in figure 1.1 of the book.

The only thing that has changed since that system was built, and since this book was published, is the rise of Web Services. The book details an implementation architecture called IMPACT for deploying agents. I think we would find that Web Services would be the appropriate implementation technology today.

The best mystery suspense novel ever written

There are a lot of Ross Thomas novels and many Ross Thomas fans. I've read them all, including "If You Can't Be Good" and "The Yellow Dog Contract." I know Padillo from Wu. This one is the best. This is the Philip St. Ives/go-between rubric at its prime. If I'd only read one Ross Thomas book in my lifetime, this would be it (well, maybe Briarpatch, but that's another story).

London, West London, a stolen sword, conmen, crooked cops, fools in over their heads, femme fatales. This one has it all in the quintessential Thomas ironic tone. The protagonist never mentions Watergate or Vietnam but his cynicism informs on his view. A great book by a great writer.

Lets face it, histology is a fairly boring subject, but this book makes it about as interesting as possible by interlacing it with all the relevant physiology.

I ordered this book a few months ago, and it really opened my eyes. Ross does a great job of completely covering the lives of these Giants of American History. He details in many instances their lives from childhood through death and often the ripples they have left behind. I am grateful to Ross for his work, and would highly recommend this set to anyone wanting to know more about the All-stars from America's past.

Best comparison of Hobbes and Locke I've read

Harrison does a great job of putting Hobbes and Locke into comparative perspective. This makes it easier to understand both philosophers' concept of the state of nature and the social contract. Moreover, the book adds in material about contemporaries such as Filmer, Hooker, and Grotius which places the thought of Hobbes and Locke in the context of the intellectual history of the times. Whatever the merits of Harrison's conclusions, the process of getting there is engaging and enlightening.

This is an unbeatable overview of the state of the holographic art. There are chapters covering basic information such as what holograms are and how they are made, and guest articles from innovators in the field, who detail their progress in such areas as adding color to holograms, applying holography to fabric, developing new holographic films and photo-reactive crystals, and producing various types of holograms by the dot matrix or photo-resist mathods, among others. Technical details are explained clearly, in language a non-physicist can understand. It contains an international directory of players in the holographic field, including artists, producers, distributors, collectors, museums, equipment and supply manufacturers, and researchers. As well as written information, it features many examples of embossed holograms, including on the cover a full-color image done by a new process developed by Dai-Nippon printing of Japan- arguably worth the entire cost of the book itself. ....
