This is a collection of poetry like no other - Ross has found a way to strike a balance bewteen being silly and nonsensical and making coments on the world we live in. He causes his readers to re-discover what language can do. He makes you laugh, but he also makes you pay attension to the messages behind his fantastic imagination.

An artist views a provincetown of another time.

The writer has not only given us a wonderful understanding of the creative and emotional eye of Ross Moffett, but a discriptive insight of the Provincetown at the time of the outstanding realists and impressionists whose work will forever help us reconstuct the unique New England Cape Cod. It was indeed a breeding ground for artists of many expressions and its legacy will remain. Joesephine Del Deo has written a bit of charming New England history.

Lionel Ross has written a fast-paced story of greed, racketeering and failed marriages with a strong thread of religious morality. From the moment that Andy Fine takes control of his father's business in Manchester, Rueben Fine Textiles, he is set upon a course that brings enormous wealth but very little personal reward.
Until, that is, he almost loses everything.
'Fine Feathers' is a rip-roaring read that takes the reader through the Thatcherite seventies to the Blairite nineties and crosses two continents, as Andy Fine becomes a business associate of the notorious Francini family from New York.
Throughout the story, Andy Fine's conceited arrogance and lack of compassion is finely balanced by his ex-wife's search to discover her true identity.
This is the author's first novel and I hope it is the first of many.

Powerful series of reflections
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.

"The Fire of Your Life" is a series of reflections written by Maggie Ross, an Anglican solitary (they used to be called hermits or anchorites/anchoresses), written while she was living in a tent in the wilderness. She starts with the church liturgical year, in December with Advent, writing between one and three reflections a month. Although she describes herself as "an ordinary person," these reflections are not ordinary: she discusses such topics as resurrection, fasting, chastity, intercession, and solitude. She possesses incisive wit, self-deprecating humor, a sense of perspective, and a deep, underlying sense of almost ferocious spirituality. I wish I could find more of her books, but they are difficult to locate in America.

This book alone will not PASS you on the USMLE. It is for reviewing only, has objective reviews for all subjects on STEP I and STEP II, add your notes to it and carry it to the beach, park, bed, have it handy at all times! To me it's the medical students bible for the boards. I found at least 25% of questions on the boards were in this book. Now that is a fact.

If you are interested in forensic psychiatry, this is an excellent book with which to begin.

It is also a sad story of how religious mania destroyed a young man and destroyed the lives of his parents.

The book is an outstanding work and field guide for unusual species encountered while fishing in Pacific Central America. Text and Photographs are the best I've seen, and the information the most comprehensive to date. The book is a masterpiece for the genre.

Great Botinist biography

Review Date: 2006-06-04
This is a fabulous book that would be of interest to anyone ages 6 years old to adult. This book is perfect for Charlotte Mason, any other home school curriculum or for those interested in the study of plants.

Alice Eastwood was born in 1859. At age 6, her mother died and she was sent to live for a time with her uncle who encouraged her early interest in Botany. During her teen years she moved to Colorado where she eventually graduated and became a school teacher. During summers and any spare moments she spent her time "surrounded by fields and pastures immersing in her true passion--flowers", engaging in rugged hikes and camping expeditions. She was completely self taught but she eventually became The expert on flowers in Colorado at a time when little was known about plants in the Rockies. In 1892 she eventually moved to San Francisco to be a joint curator of the herbarium at the California Academy of Sciences, where she continued her plant explorations and journal writing. In 1906 she made a daring and exciting rescue attempt as she tried to save some of the herbarium's collection after the great earthquake shook the city and badly damaged the building that housed plants from all over the world and Alice's lifetime collection's of plants and journals. She spent the later part of her life trying to preserve the last groves of Redwood trees and buying up land for arboretums and nature preserves creating living museums. She lived into her nineties and continued her work, only now she was international recognized as one of the great botanists of the United States.

Surprisingly, although it mentions that women typically did not engage in rugged activities during the time period that Alice lived, it does not contain the typical feminist or environmentalist dogma. This book is not only a wonderful biography, but has many beautiful illustrations and includes ideas scattered throughout the book to encourage young naturalists to do their own plant studies.

The book is in a series called Naturalist's Apprentice Series.

Pat Ross gives interesting information about flower arranging, but the real charm of this little gem is in the illustrations by Carolyn Bucha. Her watercolors are glorious. Next time you want to send flowers to cheer up a friend, give them everlasting ones in the form of this book!
