Diversity of Life - Biology - high school/college
This is a readable biology textbook with ample illustrations and photographs, drawing the reader in. It is an informative, quality book, for the advanced student who wishes to learn more about the complexity of life on this planet: plant, animal, and human. It would make a wonderful shelf resource for the highschool aged homeschooler with scientific or naturalist interests.

Quick, valuable overview

Female Hormone Management is a very quick read but still has enough details to be informative. It includes reasons for conclusions and recommentations and references to specific names and brands of hormone supplements so you can really tell what they are saying. The main thrust is that one's personal health risks and specific symptoms must be taken into account in making hormone supplementation decisions - everyone is not the same and everyone should not make the same decision. Basically, the book does not conclude for you - it provides the information to you and questions for your doctor so that you can conclude for yourself whether to take hormone supplements and if so which type and method of application might be better for your circumstances. One of the two authors is an MD and the other is a naturopathic doctor - they do not seem to have preconceived notions or biases.

Humor is the Prism of Reality

David Ross has one of the most unique, humorous, and honest views of the business world that I have ever seen. I found myself in an endless state of laughter with each new drawing and even more laughter as I reflected on the overall artistic content. David can create the situation, mood, and laughter in a single drawing that Scott Adam creates in a set of cartoon frames. David's humorous views of the business world should be mandatory reading for every member of every board of directors in corporate America, it would give them a great perspective of how many employees see the corporate enterprise.

I cannot recommend the book highly enough, not just for it's humor, but more for it's accurately humorous views of the convoluted practices of corporate America.

Funny dog book

This book is listed as suitable for small children, who will surely enjoy the silly pictures and, if they are familiar with doggie habits, the things the dog does [rolling in cowpats, slurping a child's ice cream cone]; however, the story line will require some explanation, as its wit is beyond a preschooler. This book will also appeal to adult dog lovers with a taste for dry British humor. I would give this book confidently to dog lovers with or without children.

I found this book while browsing through a small book store and I laughed so hard I had tears rolling down my face and got weak in the knees. This is the story of how space aliens prepare themselves to meet with the important earth tigger folk that inhabit earth. I heartily recommend this book for kids age 4 and up.

A fascinating, relevant cross cultural exploration
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-02-24
For anyone interested in the discussion of how drugs are controlled in our society this book offers a fascinating perspective in it's analysis of the drug use of other cultures. The chapters are:
Ritual Use of Ayahuasca in Brazil.
Coca use in Bolivia and Argentina
Opium use in Rajastan, India.
Qat (Khat) in Yemeni Culture
Cambia (Bolivia) alcohol use
North American Innu alcohol use
Huichol peyote use in Mexico
Ganja use in Jamaica

Combined these chapters explore how the traditional use of some drugs can be controlled by social (not criminal) mechanisms and cause no harm to these societies. An analysis of the social context of these drugs can lead to the conclusion that drug use can be a "socio-cultural asset" as they can provide shared belief systems and act as an integrative, positive force in society. The book explores how the opposite is also true. When drug (alcohol) use is explored in the context of social breakdown rampant abuse is predictable. The book provides our society with a fascinating insight, as the exploration of other times and places sheds light on our own dilemma about how to best control currently illegal substances. A must read for anyone interested in the drug policy reform discussion.

Finally an answer as to why drugs cause side effects
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-27
So many drugs, so few resources to find out why they cause side effects, until now. You can look up a drug and find the primary nutrients it depletes, or look up nutrients and link them with drugs you take. Also provides selected abstracts from medical journals to read for yourself. Charts at the back of the book are invaluable, like drug/food interactions, and others. A must for any professional health library. --- Bill Sardi, health journalist
