I think Kaplan has finnally got it! This book is GREAT! Let me give you the rundown...

It starts off with the basics and moves into the essay. The essay stratagies and practice essays/examples are excellent. Then it moves to the multiple choice writting section where it has 15 most common identifying error errors and many improving sentences and paragraph errors/tips. After all this review, there are 74 questions for practice (and all the answers explained). Then it moves to the sentence completion where it breaks it down and gives you some usefull tips, then a TON of practice. Same for critical reading-47 questions and like 10 passages (short and long). For math, it goes over the basics and gives you a practice section (with explinations) and then goes over the andvanced topics with a practice section (with explinations). The errors have been FIXED!!!!!!! Then it goes into the math traps where it gives you 10 ETS favorite math traps and how to avoid them, followed by practice questions (some which are from past real sats). Then there are 4 practice tests with answer explinations and a review section with 100 needed math skills, vocab, roots, and a section on helping with stress. Plus online practice and review! This book is a must!

Excellent guide.

This is an excellent guide to the new SAT. It provides you all the information you need to succeed. It gives you strategies that take advantage of the test structure. It also shows you how to best manage your time. It has four chapters dedicated to the math section. These include the basic math foundation you will need and strategies on how to save you time solving problems, as well as how to avoid all the math traps the SAT throws your way. This guide does also a thorough job to get you ready for the new essay section.

The book provides four full-length SAT practice exams. Additionally, it gives you free access to many more online tests at Kaplan's website. Anyone who has the discipline to read and study a good part of this book (including the math sections) and do at least one of the book's practice exams is bound to do a lot better on the SAT then if they had not prepared for this exam. This book represents a huge savings of both time and money in effectively preparing for this test vs taking one of the numerous over hyped SAT preps courses for hundreds if not thousands of wasted dollars.

The profound amongst the day-to-day

Ross chronicles the few short years of her life of a religious (Anglican) solitary in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest. But this is no head-in-the-clouds reverie; it is literally as down-to-earth as one can get. Ostensibly called to be the "caretaker" of a small cabin in the middle of nowhere, she gradually learns (or relearns) the skills needed for surviving both the elements and her internal conflicts with her God. She lets us in on the tedious, the beautiful, the fearfulness, the disappointments, and comforts she finds in her surroundings and a few friends. At the outset, she is the stranger in this tucked-away corner of the world, but gradually warms to a few wilderness-dwelling "neighbors" (being those who live within a 20-minute drive over unmarked gravel paths), especially the rough-hewn woman called Muskrat.

Roughly speaking, the first half of the book is taken up by her exquisite descriptions of the woods where she lives, her growing appreciation and respect for the beauties and dangers of the deep woods, and her growing friendships, with the second half being the "death and life" part of the title. While her calling is that of a 20th-century hermit, most of the folks she shares the forest with are also, in their way, hermits. They have all chosen a life apart. And, following in the footsteps of the solitaries of the past, Ross finds that living alone in no way separates her from her God, nor, indeed, does it separate her from her own pain and doubt, accumulated over the decades. She bares her soul to us, and gives us a glimpse of the extraordinary grace that is available to those who earnestly seek it.

Her authentic humanity, in conjunction with her struggles with God, form the underlying flow of this memoir. Her writing is moving without being maudlin, spiritual without being preachy. Anyone having difficulties relating to the Christian God will find here a taste of the fresh, cool waters that the Psalmist writes of. Ross suffers greatly during her sojourn in the woods, but it is to our benefit.

Highly recommended.

Maggie Ross writes eloquently about her time spent as a solitary religious (the modern term for what was once described as a hermit) in a small town on the Northwest Coast. Her struggles with healing, her encounters with trespassers and bureaucrats of all sorts, her relationships with her neighbors and her inner journey are openly and honestly described.

Although her language occasionally gets a little "wordy", especially toward the beginning, Ross manages to make her points without preaching, not sparing herself, or others. Her imagery is lucent and beautiful, for the most part, and some parts of the book are actively hilarious and sad at the same time. Reminiscent of Annie Dillard. An insightful, beautiful and thought-provoking book, and one I am very glad to own.

Time is everything, as reading this book makes me change the way I feel about my family, my friends and other people who need advices. I feel I am special after reading this book, it inspired me to write for others not just for myself. Inspiration is everything so this book is a handy tool towards loneliness, encouragement, through mourning. As it brought respect in me to change the way i used to feel about other people and myself. This is a great book and I suggest everyone to try it out. it will inspire you the reader to be what your heart desires. I realized there is another book that is available. I'm pretty sure I will give it a try. I hope it is almost the same as his first book or maybe better.

I know this guy, I've met him only twice. I didn't know he is a writer until I found out a week ago. So I went on borrowing a book about this "Seasons of Scattering" from my aunti. After carefully reading it, I felt like I am not alone of what I feel about being hurted or loosing someone. The way he puts words in a poem seems to capture and heal people like me. Its almost as though he had heard my tears, from then on I said to myself, I have to have a book like this. It is great and worth every page of reading. To me he is an uplifter. God bless him Thank you Roger Ross Ribbonleg

My younger daughter loves this book. As "the second princess" in our house, she often feels the same way as the second princess in this book. This book reinforces that her feelings are okay, that her actions about them may not be, and that working it out with the "king and queen" may be a better solution. My second princess and I would highly recommend this book to anyone with two (or more) daughters.

Charles Brooks is a master.

And here he shares his mastery with us. I was struck by the clarity, preciseness of his instructions and the depth at which he integrates sensory awareness with his spiritual practice (zazen). This book breathes with compassionate awareness.

tgis book is not about reading only. It is about experiencing. Highly recommended.

Sensory Awareness

Review Date: 2007-03-05
Published in the seventies and based on the workshops of Charlotte Selver, this book celebrates the return to awarenes of the senses. Written in a critical time in American historical development, the book points out the pathway to natural and self-regulating ways for growth, for freeing and encouraging the correcting mechanisms that come from within, and for more constructive and fuller living.

The author of the book points out that how we treat ourselves and our immediate enviroment has far-reaching ramifications for how we feel about ourselves, and how others perceive us. It directly affects our orientation toward our loved ones, our work, the society that surrounds us, and how we function spiritually in a universe in which commitment to psychological health and well-being is essenntial.

Sensory Awareness deals with the basics that we must all relearn: touching, walking, self-awareness, working constructively and happily, and dealing with each other joyfully. By achieving a holistic re-orientation toward ourselves and our enviroment, the flow of life is altered in positive ways, and the basis for chronic problems that beset us is eliminated.

Being new to the business analysis industry, I found this book extremely helpful. It was informative and well-written, breaking down some of the more complicated aspects of business analysis into concepts that were easy for me to understand. Even though I used it mostly as a primer, I will keep this book around as a reference tool for the future as well because it was full of tips and techniques that I can use down the line. It was obvious that the author is very experienced and truly knew what she was talking about. I'm confident that the knowledge I gained from this book was concrete, especially how she showed the way things connected to the the BABOK. I'm glad I picked up this book because it seemed to be the only comprehensive one out there that was on business analysis as a whole, rather than specific parts like requirements or elicitation.

Definitive reference for a business analyst

Barbara Carkenord has really gotten it right! This book takes you through what is needed to analyze a business completely and correctly, which will feed into the best solutions for that business. 'Seven Steps' is well laid out, understandable, and hits all the right notes. I would recommend this book not only to new business analysts, but also to seasoned analysts looking to hone their skills.

Everyone's talking too loud, moving to fast, and not listening enough. Can a shrew change Life with a simple plea for quiet? He has big things to say, but a very small voice can't compete with the world's racket. Kids will relish reading the 'noise words' loudly, from 'thump' to 'bang': be forewarned!

There is no doubt that the best indorsement for a children's book is one that is accomplished by children themselves, i.e. do they read and enjoy it. This work gets that indorsement! I have yet to find a kid that did not like it. That being said, I enjoyed this one myself. It is the story of a little shrew that has something very, very important to say. He finds is little voice is completely drowned out but the noise of the world. The moral of the story is that we should "Shhhsh" and listen to the little voices all round us. We might jus learn something. The art work in this one is great, very eye catching and goes perfectly with the story line. I do recommend this one highly...there is a great lesson to be learned here, for both young and old alike!

You won't sleep until you reach the end. Ross has been hired to find Jamie Starr a basketball player for the Syracuse Breeze,a pro women's team. I challenge you to figure out what has happened to Jamie before Ross. Once you have read this book, you will join me as I impatiently await Ross'next adventure.

Simulation

Excellent review of simulation techniques at an intermediate level.

According to the books I have consulted by S. M. Ross, I consider him to
be a tremendous author, with this book being my absolute favourite. It
is inspirational, clear, creative and (most of all) fun to read.

Starting off from the very basics regarding probability, random numbers
and generation of random variables, Professor Ross steadily guides the
reader through, for instance, simulation with respect to some queueing
systems, validation techniques (e.g. goodness-of-fit tests;
Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests), the standard MCMC-methods and various variance
reduction techniques. The latter chapter is the one that I found most
enlightening including, for instance, a certainly rewarding section on
importance sampling (weighted simulation). Throughout, a lot of
well-chosen examples enhance students/readers understanding and interest
of the subject.

One might note that this is by no means the most advanced or complete book
on Monte Carlo simulation out there, see e.g.

Monte Carlo Statistical Methods (Springer Texts in Statistics)

or

Stochastic Simulation: Algorithms and Analysis (Stochastic Modelling and Applied Probability),

rather it evolves at an intermediate level covering a few more advanced
concepts as, for example, coupling from the past. But, having this in
mind, this is the book to get. Pure concentrated fun (xiii+274 pages).
Final note: In 2006 the fourth edition was launched. [Simulation, Fourth Edition]

This is an excelent textbook explaining what simulation means and how to deepen your knowalge. You have to be a good programmer in order to use this book (and simulation generally)and the author should have added an andex for such a language and how its connection with simualtion ( C or C++) although my experience would elect MATLAB as prefernce!! This text does not requir any prior experience regarding simulatin although taking a course in statistics and probability would be advantageous!!

I've read several of Ross Heaven's books and they are always uniquely incredible works, especially among the boring flood of New Age platitudes that plague much of Western spiritual thought. This book joins his style and integrity with personal, emotional experience, allowing it to expand into places of the psyche that his past work couldn't as he shows more of his artistic talents as a captivating writer. Highly recommended for any spiritual sorts tired of all the proverbial garbage out there.

This book is a blessing for those who follow the ancient path of celtic shamanic work. It is so good to find a book that covers the western path of shamanic practice. There is an abundance of other tribal shamanic culture/tradition/practice, so this part of the tradition is sorely in need. Ross Heaven is an excellant bard and the telling of his friendship with Adam draws you in.The teachings are excellant & give alot to meditate upon. Adam may no longer be with us physically but his soul continues to sing, thank you for sharing.
