I had the priviledge of taking a class with Dr. Allen Ross. He is extremely qualified and is an expert on the Hebrew text. His commentary is right on, and deadly accurate. More importantly he gives information most authors skip over, reading his book gives anyone new insight into the Book of Leviticus

You'll never read Leviticus the same way again.

Dr. Allen Ross has taken what most Christians probably consider the most boring book of Scripture and opened it up theologically and historically to reveal the wealth and beauty God has placed there for those willing to learn and enjoy.

Intended as an expository guide for preachers (at which it succeeds wonderfully), this work is of tremendous importance and value to every Christian. Ross takes all the ritual and ceremony and law of Leviticus and shows how they were ultimately fulfilled for us in Christ. And in so doing he reveals to us aspects of Jesus' work we never realised or, if realised, never seriously thought about.

If you are looking for or interested in a work that will cause the scales to fall from your eyes and let the Spirit show you the riches of God's word as contained in Leviticus, this book is for you.

Ross does it all in this exposition about Leviticus. He fulfills the scholarly duties concerning the background, authorship, context and meaning of the book and offers insights on the theological explanations of the verses in Leviticus. He also emphasizes links to the New Testament and applications to Christians.

He includes a thorough introduction to Leviticus and formats the book in a simple, easy to read manner. He treats Leviticus from the perspective that it is an essential book for students of the Bible and especially for Christians to understand.

Holiness To The Lord is a well-written and outstanding resource on the Book of Leviticus. Allen Ross has written this commentary on Leviticus for both the layman and serious student of the Bible. Leviticus is a book of worship, and Ross writes his book on that premise. For every chapter, Ross gives the theological significance, outlines the main points, and gives an overall one-sentence synopsis of the chapter. With this structure in place, the reader can easily understand Leviticus for information and for preaching. Holiness to The Lord is a highly recommended resource for any pastor's library.

This book was by far the most valuable one I purchased while I was car hunting. I would reccommend it to anyone who has either no experience or overwhelming exeperience with buying cars, and to read it before they buy their next one. A little dated, but a short read with nothing but the facts you need.

What an eye opener!!!

My sister bought this book and saved several hundred dollars at a dealership in Canada and then suggested I buy this book. I bought a Saturn, no haggling, BUT I did learn A LOT about buying a car. There were a few things that I was able to save money on even though it was a Saturn. I have suggested this book to a clerk at Geico and even the person I am dealing with by e-mail in the Customer service dept. at SATURN. The book answers a lot of common sense questions and lets you know about things I NEVER would have thought to ask about. If you are going to buy a car...buy this book first and study it!!!

Excellent resource! Saved me hundreds of dollars. I lent it

This was a textbook for a college class of mine. I didn't read it all, as my class didn't. I probably read less than I was suppose to though.

Either way it is a pretty good book. It had nice visuals to help you understand, and was pretty straightforward.

I will probably keep it, rather than selling it like I will most of my books.

The chapters on notetaking are indespensable. I feel much better prepared for the rest of my classes because I read this book.

I bought this book for my first year high school student who goes to a pretty competitive school. She read it over the summer and it was full of very good insights on how one commits new material to memory, why cramming doesn't work and many good tips for time management, notetaking, how to read a text book, etc. Although its a college study book, it is just as applicable for high school students in these times.

I found that this book was a very quick read, however the message is easily adaptable to everyday life. It encourages you to be passionate about the things you love in life and passion therefore leads to health. The language is easy to understand and it's definitely geared towards a younger audience. I would recommend it to tweens and teens, expecially athletes.

I want to applaud these doctors for addressing this topic as it relates to the hip-hop community. As a health educator/hip-hop songwriter, I understand the importance of connecting to an audience with facts that may one day save many lives. These authors addressed six major health disparities to include a call to action for individuals, leaders and elected officials, and the hip-hop industry. The recommendations are sound and worth paying close attention. Get the book. To all, I wish you good health.

I bought this book because I wanted to see if three young Doctors could "keep it real" about health and I'm glad I did. The Doctors opened up and told me a little bit about how they became professionals and talked about what I can do to live a more healthy lifestyle. This book was easy to read, entertaining and very educational. We need more books like this. Thanks, Docs!

My children didn't like this book at first because it was too scary (I think it was my fault because I really get into the characters when I read it to them) but they love it now. With a name like "I'm Coming To Get You" of course its gotta be scary - but fun, too. And the illustrations are my favorite part.

I bought my copy of I'm coming to get you when It was a brand new book when taking a class in Children's Lit. I used it for years in giving presentations about facing fears... to adults.

My wife has since confiscated it for use in her Kindergarten class where it remains a big favorite year after year.

To sum up, since there isn't a lot of info on the product page, this is a very funny book with fun illustrations about facing your fears, and getting a proper perspective.

If you give motivational speeches to adults, or have a friend with unreasonable anxiety this is a great book to share, and of course if you work with children, this is a fun book for kids 5 and up.

The first thing I noticed while reading this book was that there were no lulls in the action. It seems that every part of Jesse's short life was exciting. The author at times makes Jesse out to be almost a saint, but it doesn't interfere with quality of the information that he has provided.

This is one of the very best books on Jesse James.

Interesting perspective from a family descendant of one of the most enduring western myths. This treatment recounts family legend and an inside psychological look of a mythical legend who actually existed, not only, as a western hero, but also as a , father, grandfather and great grandfather. Interesting insights on Jesse's fear of death and acceptance of his inevitable fate, his constant search for vindication for his actions as a noble cause, and his incongruous beliefs of love of family and revenge.

This book has been a true inspiration as a mother, drama teacher, and storyteller. It blends movement with story in such a gentle and touching way, and has now helped me to create a whole new approach to warm-up exercises in drama classes with children aged 3-10. More and more teachers and parents are understanding the benefits of using yoga in classes and at home, but many people say it is hard to get children to focus on the poses for long enough. When reading this book, I thought, "of course, as a storyteller, why had I not thought of this?! Tell a story as you incorporate the poses!!" The illustrations are beautiful, and the story-poems divine. If you are a parent or a teacher, this book is a must if you would like to nourish the imagination and body.

The main charactor is Samantha (Sammy). She has a thing for magic. She finds everything by digging in the dirt with her friend, Bones, who has no friends but Sammy. Sammy's mom died and she was determined to get her back by finding her treasures. Bones liked to help Sammy, but sometimes she had to do things alone, like finding a sign of her mother.
The plot is amazing. First Sammy and Bones are just friends and dig in the dirt at eachother's houses and find amazing things there. Later though Sammy's aunt comes to her house and when Sammy has had almost enough with her, her aunt becomes better. The aunt gives Sammy her favorite sweet along with the bottom part of a picture of her mom. Sammy got curious and went into her mom's room and got her jewelry box and found a message written by her mother. She was nervous to show Bones. Then she went by herself to the Pegasus Rollercoaster, which was forbidden and is now run down. She used the message and realized she had to go to the control room, and she looked around. She then found another jewelry box under some old cloths. Read the book to find out what she finds.
The setting of this book is in the present time- in her neighborhood and in the Pegasus rollercoaster area.
The theme of this book is to never give up. Even if you are in a position like Sammy's you can get through those obstacles if you keep at it.
I loved this book, so I gave it a 5. I always knew what they were doing and talking about. I was never lost. This book described things well. I would really recommend this book to young readers.

A quality addition to the wonderful world of children's books! The author hasn't forgotten what it's like to be an eleven-year-old girl; she nails those feelings of loneliness and awkwardness, the turbulent relations with adults, the bond with a best friend, and (best of all, I think) the intense desire to be involved with something mysterious. In this case it's a mystery with emotional depth. Right on, Adrienne Ross!

I lived in Helsinki for 4 months and traveled around a bit (to Kuopio, Karigasniemi and Ivalo, as well as eastward to St. Petersburg). This is the best guide to Finland I've seen in English. They give not only important tourist information (maps, restaurant and hotel recommendations, attractions, tips, etc.), but also great cultural and historical information that will help put all the tourist stuff in perspective for you.

Finland can seem surprisingly foreign if you're expecting it to be just like Scandinavia or the rest of western Europe. But with a little help from the Insight guide you'll find it unique and exciting and beautiful rather than frighteningly different. Get ready for all the stereotypical pleasures (like the sauna and amazing architecture) and some less stereotypical ones like cutting edge, world class design, beautiful birch forests, spectacular lakes, and really weird yogurt-like stuff and juustoleipƤ!

Finland, here you come!

Beautiful and clever guide to a beautiful country

Review Date: 2002-03-17
All too often, Finland has been unfairly treated by many snobbish travel writers - too clean, too expensive, too Northern. For many of those identifying Finland only with mobile phones, the history, the architecture and the landscapes of this brave, spectacularly handsome and exceedingly talented country is largely unknown. This guide tells the story and shows the pictures in a friendly, seemingly effortless and hugely informative way.

The book - in common with other Insight Guide publications - is as beautiful as the cover picture suggests. They do not cut corners on buying top quality photos or commissioning informed articles, and it shows. The writing does not have the cynicism and grumpy attitude of shoestring-travel guidebooks: instead, it offers warmth and genuine attempt to look into the country and its people (not only to list its cheapest accommodation).

Insight Guides is quite laconic about basic survival within the country, but the pages that are there fully fit the task suffice. Moreover, in Finland, where the knowledge of English is practically universal and the system of public information about transport and other facilities is second to none, you do not need too much hand-holding anyway.

This beautiful and informative book is worth every penny.

...and that is actually saying quite a bit, considering that he is one of my favorite detective fiction writers.

Written in 1968, this is Macdonald at the height of his skills. It features all the classic elements of inherited guilt, needless loss, corrupt manipulation and class barriers. Instead of stumbling over 1960s culture (as so many lesser writers seem to do), it makes free love and drug culture just two more things to be misused by the wrong sort of people.

Tough, smoothly written, well plotted. A must read for fans of Lew Archer and a good place to begin with Macdonald if you have not yet discovered his work.

Sandy Sebastian was only a kid-a lost, lonely, unhappy young girl who ran away with another equally lost kid called Davy Spanner. One was a homicidal killer. Both were kidnappers, and Lew Archer was hired to stop them before anyone got hurt. Archer had followed bloody trails before-but never one as bizarre and terrible as this...The Instant Enemy.

Fast paced, superbly constructed.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-19
The Instant Enemy is the quintessential Ross Macdonald novel. Why? Because it incorporates so many of the elements Macdonald held near and dear to his heart. These include:

-Family tragedies that repeat themselves over the generations.
-Unexpected familial relationships between characters.
-A young person's journey to claim a birthright unfairly denied.
-The notion that one's destiny is largely determined at birth, if not before.

The book starts out with Lew Archer being summoned to the Woodland Hills home of Keith Sebastian and his wife Bernice. Their 17 year old daughter has run away and they want Archer to find her without involving the police. Archer soon learns that the girl is traveling in the company of a 19 year old delinquent named Davy Spanner. What's more, it appears that they are planning to commit a very serious crime against Sebastian's boss, the fabulously wealthy oilman Stephen Hackett.

Archer wends his way up and down much of the California coast steadfastly seeking to unravel the truth behind the shocking series of events that rapidly ensue. The fast paced narrative unfolds quite smoothly as one unexpected complication after another is brought to light.

And Macdonald's prose is first rate. Whether depicting the scenic landscapes of the California coastline or the changing face of American society as it reflects the turbulence of the 1960s, the writing is remarkably deft and descriptive.

Thoroughly engaging, suspenseful and rich with surprise, The Instant Enemy ranks among the finest novels written by Ross Macdonald. Do yourself a favor and read it.

Heart-breaking tragedy told in who-dun-it format
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2003-06-12
It seems that the cases Lew Archer takes on are rather straight forward looking at the outset and startlingly complex as he gets into them. This one ranks among the best of the series because of the characters involved. This time, he's hired first by a runaway daughter's father and runs into a plot against the father's employer. A subsequent kidnapping and threat of murder gets him also "hired" by the intended victim's mother. The alert reader will figure out aspects of the whole picture before the revelation, but chances are that reader will run into a few surprises.

The puzzle is definitely an important part of the total story, but it's the depth of character and the implicit tragic developments that make a Ross MacDonald story the rewarding experience that it is.
