sized 4 feet by 2 feet for the smallest of rays. A+ Book.

Calling upon a wide range of sources within the perrenial wisdom tradition, and a personal journey of great depth, Ross Bishop invites us to meet face to face with the inner demons that block our path. While most books of this genre offer quick and deceptively easy pathways into the light, Bishop courageously asks the much harder question of how to deal with darkness - what to do with our internal resistance, the self-sabotaging mechanisms that derail us, and the wounded inner child, frozen by fear, that keeps us from moving forward despite our best intentions. The book is filled with insight, as well as practical suggestions tested in over 20 years of work with private clientele. But it is not for those simply looking for a comfortable new age read, for it ultimately demands putting the book down and actually doing the work. If you are serious about moving forward with your life, however, this book will become a treasured dog-eared ally.

I have searched a long time to find a way to heal my emotional wounds. While psychology is helpful, it does not address the depth of my spirit. Spiritual truths are inspirational, but how do I apply them to my life?

Bishop has done a wonderful job of helping me understand why my life is the way that it is and offers practical tools to change it. His insights and exercises are so simple yet powerful. I would call them revolutionary. My life has changed as a result and I am forever grateful.

As you have already guessed, I heartily reccomend this book for anyone interested in healing themselves or others, or to simply gain valuable insight into the human mind.

Are you ready to heal the past and embrace the present moment. If you are, Ross Bishop's "Healing the Shadow", is here for you. I am fortunate to have found this book because it gave me the tools I needed to face my frightened, angry, guilty inner child and start my life anew. My transformation has been noted by many, but most importantly my teenage son. He has told me many times how much he likes me now and what a great mother I am!!! Healing my shadows has brought such peace into my life, it is what I wish for everyone. Thank you Ross.

Shamanism meets psychology

Ross Bishop melds shamanic practice with deep psychological insight in this book, more successfully than others I've read. Interestingly I'd just finished Firestone's The Fantasy Bond, which is psych theory, and Bishop was saying much the same things, and better (for laymen). The journey excercises are well described and they do work! While much shamanic work involves dealing with our issues purely symbolically - or in detail via recapping or such - Ross' method merges the symbolic with memory recapping, something I've found effective. A great bonus is the list of books he likes, like an expanded Amazon listmania list!

Facing the "Beast"

Bishop's book is a very valuable and inspirational book for any one wishing to heal their innerchild. Bishop is an experienced shaman who writes from his own experiences as well as other case studies. The reading material is easy to follow as well as pleasant to read. Bishop leads the reader into learning how to recognize and even accept the "Beast" within. He explains how the "Beast" is manifested by the innerchild and gives easy to follow steps on how to communicate with the "Beast". He explains that once the "Beast" is heard, blockages can be removed and healing can occur.

This book is both enlightening and healing. Without a doubt, it deserves 5 stars!

Following my mother's sudden death, I was filled with many questions about the afterlife. Kubler-Ross writes so directly for the griever as well as those facing death. This book was profoundly helpful in my search for questions to ask, as well as answers to be found! A must read no matter where the reader is in understanding death and dying!

Great audio CD. I love listening to her speak. I find it very comforting and helpful to me at this current time. I am dealing with the sudden and unexpected loss of my Mom. I was with her when she died and all of the data on this CD really brings alot of my feelings to the surface and sheds alot of insight into my many unanswered questions.

Are you the total skeptic towards the afterlife ?
Then you've hit the perfect introduction.
You'll be moved and fascinated listening to this caring and compassionate medical doctor describing her first-hand observations on the dying and passing over. And how - regardless of circumstances - everyone is met and embraced by a previous lost loved one...
In her own voice ! Don't worry about the accent; you'll revert to this 2 CD set many times over !
It has so much to offer. Least of which is scientific consolation in mourning.

I'll next recommend you move on to Allison & Joe DuBois's [portrayed in the "MEDIUM" TV-series]6 audio cd set We Are Their Heaven: Why the Dead Never Leave Us , 5 audio CD set Don't Kiss Them Good-bye , and one-audio cd (MP3 format) Secrets of the Monarch: What the Dead Can Teach Us About Living a Better Life . Plus Linda Williamson's book Contacting the Spirit World
Next there's a host of many other excellent elaborations by competent, renoved psychics. Easy to be found !

Compassionate look at life after death - the book is better though!

Dr. Elisabeth Kubler Ross takes an optimistic, insightful, and thought provoking look at life after death. Having dealt with recent deaths in my family, I've become very interested in the possibilities of what comes after our life here on earth. I found this audio book to be very spiritual, but not overly biased to any specific religion, which I appreciated. Dr. Ross has spent thousands of hours with dying patients and studying near death experiences to try to scientifically prove whether what people experience in "near-death" experiences is "wishful thinking" or an actual indication of what is to come. She gives compelling stories which help to backup the idea of life after death, and that we will not be alone when we die.

A few weeks ago, I had read a book from Dr. Ross, which seems to contain almost identical content to this audio book ->Tunnel and the Light: Essential Insights on Living and Dying

I found this book to be much better than the audio book. The book was based on lectures that she gave in the 1980s, and I found the book to be much more enjoyable than the audio book. With the exception of a few lectures on the 2nd disk of the audio book, most of the audio book contains what sounds like a straight dry narration of information. Also, her Swiss accent can make some parts of the audio difficult to understand. Tracks 6-10 on the 2nd disk of the audio book sound much different - her speach flows very naturally as she talks to a crowd (which is also heard on the audio book), and she frequently interjects some humor into the lecture, which keeps it entertaining and lively. I suspect that the book I mentioned above was taken from lectures she did around the same time frame as disk 2 tracks 6-10, as it has the same "feel" as these specific tracks on the audio book. The other sections of the audio book have good information, but this same information is presented much more effectively in the regular book.

Also, most of the lectures on disk one of the CD have poor recording quality, where all of the "S" sounds are harsh and somewhat ear-peircing. Overall, I think that Dr. Kubler Ross provides great information in this audio book, that makes the process of dying seem much more optimistic than I ever would have imagined, but wish the entire audio book would have been taken from lectures done around the time frame of tracks 6-10 on Disk 2. Those lectures were much clearer and more entertaining. If you're not stuck on getting an "audio" book, I would highly recommend getting the Tunnel and the Light: Essential Insights on Living and Dying instead.

A Book to Convince: Elisabeth Kubler Ross's "Is There Life After Death"

Review Date: 2007-08-02
This two CD audio book tells, in the author's own voice, of discoveries made from numerous interviews of people who'd had a "near death" experience. From them she's been able to answer the age old question, "Is there life after death?" Her description of what we each are destined to undergo is both convincing and joyous.

Kubler Ross was trained as a medical doctor and researcher. Her evidence is presented scientifically: the blind man capable of describing the doctor's tie, the accident victim who knew his mother and brother had preceded him in death. Conclusions are founded on reported common experience and scientific observation.

This pair of CDs is recommended to anyone interested or curious about life after death who has at least a slightly open mind. Those who already hope for or believe in life after death will end up knowing it to be fact. Those who doubt are going to be very hard pressed to not to become convinced.

The only caveat I have is that Kubler Ross's Swiss accent may be difficult for some to understand. For them repeated listenings should help.

I've read all the Clancy and Clancy clones. They're ok but somewhat comic-book-like (e.g., weapon systems always work flawlessly and the bad guys come straight out of central casting). So if you're looking for a war comic sans-pictures, this isn't it (although Ross' battle scenes are pretty hairy).

This book is part epic, part comedy, and part expose on the ridiculous nature war (and no, I'm not a dove by any stretch of the imagination).

It is told from the wry perspective of a self-described "coward" who goes on to win the CMOH (our nations highest military decoration). Character development and plotting (usually mutually exclusive) are both first rate.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone, not just those interested in our armed forces or history.

I don't know where Dean William Ross came from (or where he's been subsequent to the publication of this book) but we want more!

As avid golfers, my husband and I looked forward to reading this book -- and what a treat it was. We've never met Cotton and never been to Bethlemen PA, and certainly never to the hallowed halls of Saucon. But there is really something in the soul of the man, Ross "Cotton" Young, that is both inspiring and intriguing.

We could hardly put the book down and loved every touching, hilarious and uncommon moment that the author so skillfully lays at the readers feet. Not a "famous" man, not a man of means, but truly a man of high spirit, principles, devotion to the game and a gentleman, in the best sense of the word.

If you enjoy stories of bygone eras, and people from a time of ethics, values and true American spirit, you will find it all in Lifelong Looper. This would also be a great gift for any golfer on your list.

We highly recommend it.

Life Long Looper: The Story Of A Caddie Legend by Cindy O'Krepki is the intriguing tale of one man's seventy-seven year career as a golf caddie at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. Readers will be enthralled with the caddie's stories of comedy, drama, and intimate relationships between golfer and caddie as O'Krepki superbly details the history of the long lived caddie. Life Long Looper is very highly recommended to non-specialist general readers who appreciate biographies of interesting people leading interesting lives (and most particularly those readers with an interest in golfing) for its involved and personal telling of every given aspect of an inspirational life.

At 28 and being the old soul that I am... It's hard to find the depth of character found in this book in my generation -- I thoroughly enjoyed being taken back to such a simple time, through such a legendary game and visiting the life of such a heroic man. I don't know much about golf, but this book allowed me to see it through Cotton's eyes, a 'behind the scenes' look at what it takes to play, live and breath this game. I would recommend this book to anyone from a Pro Golfer to the soul who loves being touched by the integrity of heart and passion Cotton possessed.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the journey that Cotton Young undertook in his many years as a caddie. I also really enjoyed the writing style of the author and how she wove the history of the times within Cotton's story. And, of course, it was a real pleasure to experience a part of golf that I will never personally see; the world of exclusive clubs, professional tournements and famous personalities. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in golf lifestyles, golf history or the courageuous story of a working-class hero.

It was upbuilding and refreshing to travel with Dr. Ross through her own journey in discovering what is at the root of miracles while experiencing healing at the same time. Dr. Ross is honest in her appraisal of such healing modalities as meditation, prayer, Reiki, yoga and more. Some of these she has tried in dealing with her own health challenges and others she evaluates through following patients.

Throughout the book, Dr. Ross provides resources for any information she has shared. These include books, websites, programs and practitioners.

When I first picked up the book, "Miracles in Healing" I was a little wary as I assumed it would be a book of secular miracle healing like cover yourself up with mud and lay there for a while and all your illnesses will go away.

Although it is a book explaining the art of healing, Dr. Ross methodically takes us with her on her journey of healing when she is suddenly diagnosed with an illness that causes her to give up her medical practice. The book reveals to us similar or familiar journeys by others facing their worst fears. It explains to us not to succumb to those fears, but rely on faith which "Miracles in Healing" by Carolyn Coker Ross, M.D., M.P.H. does just that in a very articulateness and thought out text giving way to spiritual and physical healing.

She explains having faith and believing in God, along with conventional treatment, can miraculously bring about unyielding miracles to one's body and soul in the mental and physical sense. I particularly enjoyed the stories of people that were interviewed and how they coped with, and eventually prescribed themselves their art of healing, which eventually became their miracles. The book contains in each chapter, a listing of resources for you to refer to and read; plus there is space
after each listing for you to detail or jot down any particular notes, which makes it very convenient to the reader.

It is a very uplifting read and should appeal to anyone who feels defeated, but still looking for a ray of hope. Thank you, Dr. Ross, for sharing portions of your life and the life of thers with readers who may have had family members, or have themselves been on the receiving end of sudden illnesses and
struggling to cope. I recommend you read "Miracles in Healing" and you will appreciate one woman's determination to stand up and not fall down.

I consult it for exciting potluck appetizer recipes like creamy frijole dip and black bean tarts, exotic salads like white bean crab salad and adzuki fruit salad as well as everyday main courses such as chili (for which there are five variations) and wraps.

The recipes are usually quick, the directions are straightforward and the results are tasty and nutritious. This would be a great gift for the health conscious and vegetarians on your gift list!

I have never been a bean lover but am a vegetarian. So when I discovered More Easy Beans and found so many great recipes, especially for appetizers, I was hooked. I truly believe this is the best bean book I have ever used. Some recipes call for meat, but of course, everyone has a friend who likes red meat. What I really found helpful was the recipes all use a can of beans or allow you to make the beans from scratch. All the recipes I have tried are right on with the cooking times. Other books I have used produce bean mush at the end. I highly recommend More Easy Beans.

You will absolutely love this book! Ross is both insightful and humorous as he writes about: Michigan football (why their offense is really neither "conservative" or "too predictable"), Michigan basketball and the player who averaged 15 fouls per game (I remember him), Big Ten basketball officiating (he says it is getting better; I'm not sure), Tommy Amaker (he should have asked him who did kill JFK), why UCLA was so good for so long (it actually has less to do with John Wooden than you've been led to believe), and who was the greatest Michigan quarterback ever (read it to find out; Tom Brady is #3). More than anything else, this book reminded me that college sports are supposed to be FUN, no matter who wins. Ross' final chapter in this book is a classic by itself. Buy this book and savor every chapter. The best sports book I've read since "Ball Four" (yes, it's THAT good).

I join my fellow alum Mr. Heston in giving high praise to Obscene Diaries. At college I became quite interested in football, and particularly enjoyed Northwestern's successful skirmishes against the University of Michigan. Mr. Ross successfully reveals football as a particularly American blend of theatre and sport, personal drama and statistical analysis, quarterback thrill and coach agonistes.

This wild comic rant about sports is also startlingly original. For hard core sports fans, the book is packed with the kind of fresh insightful analysis of football strategy that is so completely missing from the work of the paid media pundits. (College coaches are already taking this book very seriously, because it shows why they should go for it on 4th down way more than they do.) But for non sports fans, this is also a great book, because Craig Ross really talks more about life than he does about sports -- and he's a fabulously witty writer.

As a die-hard fan of Route 66, I have read and devoured many books trying to get from one town to the next without getting lost (which everyone does at least once!!). This book is the only one you will need when crossing Oklahoma on Rt 66. I wish more were like this for each state, I would own the whole set!! A definite "must-have" for 66 roadies.

Jim Ross has done it again. "Oklahoma Route 66" is a must have guidebook for those Mother Road travelers navigating Oklahoma's stretch of the Mother Road. The photographs and maps are fabulous. Thanks, Mr. Ross, for your exceptional research. I plan to bring my copy on my next 66 journey through Oklahoma.

One simply cannot find a better written Route 66 book than this one. If you think you're going to travel the Route in Oklahoma, don't do it without this book. Even if you're just passing though OK on a longer 66 trip.

This book is SO complete, the Oklahoma Highway Dept uses parts of it for their website section on Route 66. What's that tell ya? (See: [...])

You'll want something like the excellent "Route 66: EZ66 Guide for Travelers" by Jerry McClanahan for travelling the rest of Route 66, but while in OK, you'll put that down and use this book. Trust me. If you explored every single alignment and all the "ghost 66" sections listed herein, you could spend a week on 66 just in OK. Even if you're just doing a less "investigative" trip, you'll learn more from this book than any other.

I got to meet the author on my recent Route 66 trip, and he is a great guy, just overflowing with info about and obvious passion for Route 66. (He even lives on an old alignment of Route 66, in a house that looks like an old cottage-style Phillips 66 station!)

Get this book, you will not regret it.

Oklahoma's own Jim Ross has written a masterful book on America's Main Street. The book combines maps that are clean and easy to follow, numerous vintage images of photos and postcards that enhance the enjoyment of the book, and information about the people and places along the way. He even has included historical information about how the road came about. Anyone interested in history or in finding the road in Oklahoma (including every known alignment) will want to have this book. This is a book the novice as well as the seasoned veteran roadie will enjoy!

A Must-Have for Die-Hard Old Road Researchers

As an historic highway researcher and writer myself, I was greatly impressed with Oklahoma Route 66 by Jim Ross. Jim provides so much detailed information on following the Mother Road through Oklahoma that not a single scrap of any alignment has been left to anyone's imagination, right down to the original dirt roads used in 1926 and the interiim strips of asphalt laid down to connect the old road to sections of new interstate highway being constructed in the 1950s.

For die-hards like me who want to know each and every place the old road went, this book is a dream. The maps are concise and easy to read. The photos are crisp and plentiful. Just what I expected from the man who, along with Jerry McClanahan, brought us the Bones of the Old Road video and Route 66: The Map Series. Fun to read and to use, this book's a keeper.

Like another reviewer, I also have the pleasure of knowing Joe Martin. And while I knew of some of his remarkable achievements, I was astounded to read of many more. Like Joe, I have ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. He, and his book, have inspired me to live life with joy, love, purpose, hope and faith notwithstanding the ravages of this disease. His book, like Tuesdays With Morrie, should inspire anyone and everyone. But while Morrie spoke as a dying man, Joe, with the same terminal illness, speaks with the vitality of a man truly living life to the fullest.

Mr. Martin's book is an inspirational and moving work for anyone to read, regardless of your position in life. If you've ever faced adversity, there is something to be learned about courage and optimism from this book. His candor, humor, and vision will inspire you and give you a sense of appreciation for this life we have. My mother is suffering from a degenerative disease, and this book gave me a new sense of perpective on what she and many others face as they battle each step of their disease. As a North Carolinian, I am proud that this brilliant writer and powerful soul is a leader for our community, and has been able to reach out and touch so many other lives. This book will make you cry, make you laugh, and most importantly, give you inspiration and appreciation for what you have.

I found this first person account co-authored by Joe Martin, who has ALS, very inspirational. Joe allows the reader to share his feelings of frustration as well as to grasp the depth of his convictions that life should be celebrated and cherished. Ross Yocke's commentary throughout the book provides an additional source of information which is helpful for the reader to gain perspective about Joe Martin's life with ALS. This short 178 page book pulls the reader into Joe Martin's reality, and allows the reader to share his religious and moral convictions, as well as to revel in his wonderful anecdots. This book reminds me of Tuesdays with Morrie. I hope others will enjoy reading On Any Given Day as much as I have.

Joe Martin and his family (family, friends and bank colleagues) are the greatest support system. Joe's life inspires, challenges and motivates all to do more. His will to live is refreshing, unbelievable given the impact of ALS on his body but not on his mind or spirit. For anyone facing disease, stress or looking for meaning, this is a must read.

It's a quick read and doesn't leave you down -- but instead deals with a tough subject -- living with a terminal disease -- with reality and purpose. You will learn how "you can live like this"

I cannot add much to the previous reviews-- all of with which I agree-- except this: Mr. Martin is, first and foremost, a writer. Indeed, he has ALS, and that is much of what he writes about here. But his lean, athletic style, keen observation and outstanding sense of humor would entice me to read router bit catalog copy, if Mr. Martin wrote it. I'm in search of his short story published in the Crescent Review (malcolm@walkaboutpress.org-- if anyone finds it first) and am hopeful he is at work on something else for us to enjoy and think about.
