Novels dealing with Ancient Egypt seem to discuss the same characters: Tutankhamen, Akhenaten and Nefertiti, Hatshepsut, and
Ramses II. This however is not the case with this book. The author, writing in a simple style, has researched deeply into
the lives and characters of the Hyksos, and their invasion into Egypt. Among the numerous accurate details provided, he has
included an explanation for the appearance of the horse and the use of the wheel and also writes of the complexity of Ancient
Egyptian religion. Having a fascinating ending, this is an enjoyable read for all lovers of historical thrillers.

This book is a funny, gentle, and brainy exploration of nature writers and their subject. Though Robertson is clearly very
knowledgeable, this book is not a guided tour. It is a search. Which is not to say the author has no particular point of
view. Robertson IS preaching here a bit about the importance of nature, and all "real matter" in our lives, among other things.
What makes this book so special is that with a twinkle in his eye he preaches from the pews as well as from the pulpit.

I read the background on this book by the author on FaithStreams.com-- http://www.faithstreams.com/topics/authors-authors-/c-k-robertson.html
--gives a good overview as to how the book is structured and the prospective audience. It might be a bit academic for the
casual reader, but, if you're fairly academically inclined you might just enjoy it. I've only just started & will probably
take a while to finish, but thought it was good enough to add my .02 cents worth on Amazon since no one else has. Cheers!

It's remarkable how writing which can seem dry and dead on the printed page can come alive in the voice of a professional
actor. That's certainly the case with this play. I never liked "Richard III" in reading it; it was only when I heard this
stellar performance that I really appreciated it as great drama.

Seriously, this is probably my favourite book of all time! I bought a copy years ago, and read it so many times that it fell
to pieces. Kylie Tennant is an award winning Australian author and national treasure. Her writing is so humourous, so empathetic,
so intelligent and forward thinking, it's hard to believe that this book could have been written over 60 years ago. It is
truly an ageless classic, and reads today as if freshly written.
This is the story of Shannon Hicks. a strong-willed girl with a mind of her own who doesn't quite fit into her family or small country town. Thinking her a bad seed, her family send her to live with her rather paranoid, eccentric aunt, who treats her as a live-in, unpaid servant in her boarding house. There, Shannon meets Beryl, a good hearted, good-time loving but ambitious girl. They run away to live in the city, where Shannon branches out on her own and does what many of us do -- she drifts through her life, from one job or one passion to the next. From demonstrating a bean slicer to working in a religious order to hosting her own radio show to running an election campaign, Shannon does it all. And the girl who was so unloveable in her hometown finds many admirers in the city, who flock to her magnetic personality, wit and charm. But the ending of this book is both unpredictable and amazing, as Shannon's life travels full circle, when she sets out on a visit to her old hometown on the eve of World War II and meets someone from her past she never thought to see again.
Sadly, my description of this amazing book just isn't going to do it proper justice. It's such a rollercoaster ride of a story it's hard to sum it up in a short review like this. All I can say is, READ IT!
Oh, and one more thing. If you have read the book and loved it, you should check out the dvd. Back in 1979, the book was made into a series, and this is now available on dvd, although I don't know if it is available outside Australia or not. It's worth seeing, and like the book it's as fresh and wonderful today as it was the day it was made. Truly, it's one of the best things ever made for TV in Australia.

This is absolutely the best guide for preparing fresh vegetables! I love to cook, and I love to eat, but I'm always too busy.
This cookbook gives me LOTS of quick recipes (from main dishes to salads and sides) that are consistently delicious. I'm a
nurse and nutritionist, so being able to see the nutritional analysis of each recipe is a nice bonus.

If you need a book full of great gift ideas -- or a diverse selection of projects you can make for your own home -- this collection
is outstanding! Clear directions, a fabulous assortment and a great price for such a nice a hardcover book. I received this
book three days ago and have already completed three projects: a bookmark and two small doilies. I've got my eye on starting
several more - the Irish Rose napkin rings seem to be beckoning to me the most...
