Aside from the fact that this book had all of the extensive necessary information, which was crucial at the time of my pregnancy,
I had the distinct honor of actually being a patient of Dr. Robertsn's. In all of my lifetime, I have never known a more
compassionate, caring doctor. Not only was she with me from the beginning of my crisis, which occurred while on vacation
in California, she continued to follow my pregnancy until the delivery of my beautiful son. Because it was necessary for
me to remain bed-ridden for months, after our return to Florida, she continued to follow my case with my local ob-gyn, as
well as contacting me by phone several times a week. She understood the frightening and lonely days experienced by women
in this situation and continued to be a constant source of encouragement. Aside from her brilliance, she is the most sincere
and loving physician I have ever had the privilege to know. There were no limits to her devotion to me and her other patients
when it came to the care and compassion she offered, not to mention the incredible knowledge she had on this topic. Her
determination paid off for us. My son had his 15th. birthday last week and there is not a day that goes by , that I do
not thank God for bringing Dr.Robertson into my life and the life of my child, who I know would not be alive today without
her dedication. My husband, who is also a medical doctor was amazed with her incredible talent and hopeful attitude.
I would emphatically encourage any one with questions on this medical issue, to read this book and share it with a friend.
One never knows when it might happen to them.

I used this book along with the free online questions at Sportys when preparing for my Private Pilot written exam. This book
does an excellent and very efficient job at summarizing all you need to know to answer the questions and then providing the
questions/answers grouped by topic - with occasional explanation. I scored a 98 - needlessly got one question wrong. This
book really helped me prep and I used ASA to sign me off for the exam.
Note - this book is not a substitute for learning and understanding all the information required to safely fly. It is efficient memorization and focus on the test questions. You really need and want to understand everything behind the questions/answers.
I just passed the checkride this past week. Again, this book helped in reviewing fro the oral portion of the exam.

Having read Sylvia's book Teacher for an education class years ago, I used it when teaching my own young son who has Down
syndrome how to recognize words. Today he happily reads maps, newspapers, and books about sports. Also, my first grade class
was the subject of my thesis for my Master's degree in Reading and I used Ms Ashton-Warners method, among others. My students,"normal",
surpassed any class I had taught in not only reading, but writing skills. I was amazed. We can use more able students or older
students to work with younger ones or have volunteers come in and work with children using Sylvia's methods which involve
starting the children with "organic vocabulary"--words of their own chosing that have real meaning to them.
This method is inexpensive since we develop our own books and materials. It is a joy to use. Creativity is enhanced. Read first the book Teacher, which describes how Sylvia taught Maori children in New Zealand.

An excellent and concise text of psychiatry

The book is an introductory for medical students. It is concise and each chapter is thorough enough for psych rotations and
board review. A complete medical, social, and psychological perspective is achieved in each chapter. Pediatric, geriatric
and cultural psychiatry chapters are included. Dementia, depression and substance abuse chapters are very good. Allied
health workers with a desire to broaden their knowledge can do so with this user friendly book. Each chapter is two pages
long. In those two pages a diagram is given that gives brilliant structure to each topic. Occasional variation in terminology
(British book) can occur but, still an excellent book.

Loved this book! This is an anthology of academic essays on gays and gay fiction in international settings. It covers men
and women and almost every regional/racial grouping. This book is an important contribution to gay studies, postcolonial
studies, and feminist/womanist/mujerista studies. Unfortunately, the editors have the best pieces in the anthology (sabotage?
jealousy?). Still, I think this is a great book for gay academics and gay men and lesbians of color to add to their collection.

Shawn Kelvin, a small but sturdy young man, has returned from America to the home in Ireland that he left behind 15 years
earlier. But much has changed in those 15 years. Big Liam O'Grady now owns the farm that had belonged to the Kelvins, and
Shawn himself has quieted much, after his time with the furnaces of Pittsburgh, and his time in the ring. But after Shawn
marries Big Liam's sister, Ellen O'Grady, he soon finds that a confrontation between himself and Big Liam is probably unavoidable.
I must say that I really enjoyed this story. I love the 1952 movie, the Quiet Man, and was interested to see what extra I could learn from reading the story that the movie was based on. Well, perhaps I didn't learn much (the movie expanded greatly on the story, and really left nothing behind), but it was nonetheless a great read. I loved the characters, and the story, and how the author moved the story along to its exciting conclusion.
Maurice Walsh (1879-1964) was a great Irish author, and this book really does show off his wonderful talents. Whether or not you are a fan of the old John Wayne movie, the Quiet Man, you will love this interesting and entertaining story. I give it my highest recommendations!

This volume is an encyclopedic summary of topics dealing with matters of importance in the spiritual, psychological and educational lives of missionary kids. The contributors to this work include a number of well-known figures in the member care arena: Joyce Bowers, David Pollock, Ted Ward, John Powell, David Wickstrom, and many others. Each contributor offers considerable expertise in their respective topical areas.
The major divisions of the book are as follows:
I. Historical Perspective (International Conferences on Missionary Kids are reviewed)
II. MKs, TCKs, and the Body of Christ (highlights the need for discipling and caring for MKs)
III. Understanding MKs and TCKs (Third culture influences, transitions, college and career choices, adult MKs)
IV. Resilient Families (parenting, family dynamics, and developmental issues concerning missionary families)
V. Educational Issues (MK education overview, transcultural education, language learning, boarding school curriculum issues, administrative and staff issues, special educational needs)
VI. Collaboration (research and regional networks)
VII. Looking Toward the Future (trends in missions and member care, future educational issues)
Most of the chapters are four to ten pages in length. There are over forty contributors. Some are primarily theoreticians and some are primarily practitioners. The content is drawn primarily from International Conference on Missionary Kids presentations which have been edited for publication.
Bowers, et.al. have done an outstanding job of pulling together the best and the brightest thinkers in the member care world in this text. The wide array of topics covered is staggering. That is both a strength and a weakness of the book. It affords brief snapshots offering the bottom line on a number of issues but not a full exploration of most topics. Raising Resilient Mks is perhaps best appreciated as an encyclopedic reference volume. It is the definitive book dealing with MK/TCK concerns. Third Culture Kids by Ruth van Reken and David Pollock runs a close second in my opinion. The latter book is less broad in its focus concentrating more on the experience of being a TCK as opposed to providing caregivers, teachers, and parents with information. Raising Resilient MKs is currently out of print. I hope it gets updated and put back in circulation. It is a clssic in its field. Any member care provider should have it in his/her library.
